After giving ~ 1/3 of the total cost of the project upfront (1/2 of the cost of the cabinets) & some to "prime the pump". He was not allowed to get the cabinets on credit. He told us it would take 4 weeks for the cabinets to come in. We learned that he waited 1 week to order the cabinets. He was given the owners manuals of all new appliances for his review for future measurements. After 2 weeks, no work had begun. We started the demo ourselves, which he then finished. He did not put up anything to keep the mess from the rest of the house. Demo, other than mess, went pretty good. The cabinet install was mis-measured requiring us to purchase additional cabinets to make up for his mistake. The granite counter top had been ordered so not to have any seams, but due to his lack of preparation on the downdraft for the stove, seams had to be created. He allowed a sub to use a ladder to gain entrance into our house. (Contractor was too "busy" to come back & let the sub in. After learning of this, I paid him IN FULL the agreed amount on the contract. He did not pay the sub who did the flooring. I ended up having to do that. Upon getting another contractor in, we've had to order more cabinets to make up for his mistakes, the countertop will have to be redone & another electrician has come in & discovered work that is not only not up to code, but is potentially dangerous. To top it all off, the last two checks written to Wall to Wall Construction, were fraudulently altered from the construction company to his person.
Description of Work: This "company" was contracted to do a complete kitchen remodel, which included demolishing of the old kitchen, removing a wall, old cabinets, tile floors, adding new door, cabinets, kitchen island, etc.

We decided to end our contract with Will Wall of Wall to Wall Construction due to his extreme unprofessionalism, breach of our contract, and threatening behavior. We were required to give Mr. Wall a 50% deposit upfront; the other 50% was to be given upon satisfactory completion of the work, as stated in our contract. The first sign of unprofessionalism from Mr. Wall was in February, after less than 1/4 of the scope of work had been completed, when he said he would not continue the work stated in our contract until we gave him more money (beyond the original 50% deposit). His reasoning was that he had spent our deposit to pay his personal bills, even though the contract stated our deposit would go toward paying subcontractors and for materials--toward the services we had agreed upon. When we questioned him, stating our discomfort in giving him more money when he had already spent the money we had given him on personal expenses that breached the contract, he became irrational, accusatory, patronizing, and his rage frankly threatened our safety. He later denied this episode, even though he wrote to us in an e-mail admitting himself that he had "lost his head" in an attempt to apologize. But his behavior had crossed a boundary that we could not tolerate, and his "apology" included some very degrading comments. Being treated in the way he treated us made us lose more than a few nights of sleep and we hope no one will ever again have to endure such mistreatment. At first Mr. Wall was very punctual and charming, but as soon as he had 50% of the money, his behavior began to steadily deteriorate, often giving us excuses as to why he couldn't work, such as forgetting materials, death in the family, children in the car or failing at school, the weather is too cold, etc. Additionally, he refused to give us information on his supplier and refused to price supplies we preferred he use. He often complained to us about his partner, who built us a beautiful cabinet, about him being "too meticulous", "too slow", and "I can't make any money out of him", however, our experience with his partner was nothing but positive, professional, and trustworthy. We approached Mr. Wall with a formal letter to discontinue our relationship, demanding he pay the remainder of the 50% deposit. He reeled off excuses and blamed us for his personal use of our money. He did say he would pay back the money, but it has now been 5 months and our funds have not been returned. We found out from one of the subcontractors that Mr. Wall did not pay him. This subcontractor said Mr. Wall had given him an excuse for not paying him. The excuse he said Mr. Wall gave him was that we had not paid Mr. Wall any money, so then Mr. Wall could not pay the subcontractor. Of course, this was a lie, since we had paid over $4000 for the initial deposit which the contract stated would go to paying the subcontractors. Because he did not pay subcontractors, we were at risk for liens on our house. We have had to wait out the statute on liens to protect ourselves before taking any action against Mr. Wall. Not once did Mr. Wall take responsibility for his lack of professionalism, yet, quite the opposite, blamed us. Mr. Wall still owes us almost half of our deposit back for services that have not been completed. We have requested he return of this money in very reasonable ways. After we gave Mr. Wall our formal letter, he wrote us an e-mail threatening our safety, attaching a YouTube video of two men physically threatening and beating one another. Now Angie's List is helping us with their formal complaint services. Mr. Wall took extreme advantage of us, has taken no responsibility for his actions, and has no remorse for robbing a young couple with little money. We hope that no one else will have to suffer from Mr. Wall and Wall to Wall Construction's detrimental practices.
Description of Work: Will Wall of Wall to Wall Construction (Mr. Wall's company) is a general contractor who arranged a contract with us which required we put down 50% upfront of over $4000. Services did not begin until over a month after we gave him this 50% deposit. He hired two subcontractors, one of which we know Mr. Wall has not paid, even though our 50% deposit was to cover subcontractor payments, which was stated clearly in our contract. The only work Mr. Wall performed himself on our house was to make a hole in the wall where a cabinet was to be installed, which one of the hired subcontractors told us was done incorrectly.

Response from Wall To Wall Construction
Their job begin last winter with the contract of around 8K for which consist of some pretty intense demo in the kitchen underneath a stairwell where I suggested putting a pantry in the dead space. Also, the job consist of tearing out a sizable cement pad and concreting back then tiling. There was some water damage to contend with. Lastly, the job was to finish up with new gutters, soffit and facia. I did receive 4K down. Here is how it played out. After deposit was made the temps were frigid and too cold to pour concrete which all parties agreed. We waited a couple of weeks until my concrete guy said it was OK. By this time he didn't feel good about the cold weather and the upcoming holiday but I assured him we could remove old concrete and pour back within 2 days in a small window of warmer weather and he wouldn't hear of it. Therefore, I had to reschedule my subs. He then ask if we could hold off til after the 1st of the year which really put me in a bind but I agreed. After the 1st of the year I called for 2 weeks with no return phone call. Finally after repeated emails and phone calls he returned my call. He flat out told me that they couldn't pay the remainder of the balance until a tax check was received which they were not sure when...I found this to be odd since there was not mention of this in the beginning or signing of contract. As of now this was twice the homeowner has delayed the project. Delays cost time, rescheduling and money. I then stated and reminded him that he had given me 4K and why don't we go ahead and build pantry and do the concrete which would constitute the money given by deposit therefore making us even...I said let's complete enough of the work starting with inside work up to pouring the concreted back and then we will stop and wait for check...that away they would have X amount of work done which would equal monies paid and would not be upside down in the contract... He agreed and we began work...we completed what we said and then became equal as work done against monies paid. In other words the pantry demo (which was plaster by the way and arduous in nature to demo) and the custom cabinet with doors were completed. Then we moved forward with tearing out concrete pad and putting it back. With the size of the pad and it's nature along with the pantry we built they had used up the entire 4K which was the original deposit. Still no word on check from IRS. Remember, there was nothing in contract about me having to wait for a check from the IRS or any delays. So, at this point I was waiting for my tile man to get finished with a big project in Va. along with the homeowner to confirm payment from IRS Remember, I had already delayed my tile guy on this project twice...At this point, they were making me nervous. With all the delays, the impromptu change in payment schedule (IRS payment), and their strange disposition...I became uncomfortable with the project. Since we had already completed work which equaled their deposit, I wanted to get additional funds down to move forward. Again, all work completed equaled their down payment and job was even at this point. When I suggested an additional deposit to begin gutter work and that my tile guy was still a week out of town they became disgruntle and irate. My point is this: They delayed the project twice, told me they couldn't pay til spring and at certain points during the winter were unreachable by all means. This is a red flag to any contractor... Lastly, I can tell you as a contractor that has been doing this for quite awhile, when a client starts giving these signals you had better pay attention and cover yourself. I felt uncomfortable moving forward once we satisfied the deposit without additional monies plain and simple. Oh and by the way, I have paid all subs on the job long ago and I sleep very well at night regarding this transaction and relationship that unfortunately has clouded my time and thoughts. I will be glad to participate in any discussions in person, email or phone call to resolve this dispute. My attorney is a personal friend and he is good at what he does. His statement was that after they breached the contract with delays and threatening late payment in commensurate with not letting me resolve the matter what so ever, the best thing I could do is walk away and move forward. He said, "Will I know who you are and what kind of work you do and you have to know that sometimes you can't please everyone". Will Wall-Owner/President
