After about a few days of giving my 87 year old dad 24 hour care I was exhausted. I was getting 3 hours of sleep pieced together in 20 minute naps. that was a good night. I needed help to physically get him to the toilet and help with keeping the apartment liveable. On top of his primary issues he had urine leaking from him that was on floors, bedding, clothes and me. I thought if I could just get some help with the place for a few 4 hour shifts a week I'd be set. After a nurse came and assessed my needs we agreed that should work. I had one shift with Lin who was a compassionate hard working woman.  She washed all the non carpeted floors down with ammonia. And God knows what else on her hands and knees. She did a mountain of laundry. Next shift was in a could of days. Then he started the vomiting. Hospice was called. Therese from Martha's Hands came back and we upped the shifts to 24/7 coverage with more of a focus on some one to help with the dieing process. They shilfted the support so I had someone by Sunday morning. She was again a compassionate knowledgeable care giver. The people doing the hiring are amazing. The system of training and hand off is spot on.we had about 4 caregivers and met 3 nurse supervisors in this time.  Everyone was competent and focused on doing what was needed. Support for the patient and the family is clearly their focus. It was priceless support.
We heard from a couple of caregivers how much they loved what they did. They didn't really need to tell us. It showed in their actions. Like when I would take a break and leave the bedroom next thing I heard is Audrey talking to my dad the whole time I was out of the room just to keep him company. He's in a coma at this point! No one asked her to do that but she knew the last thing to go is your hearing.
I could write a book about this experience but I hope this is enough to give you a sense of what happened and happened and happened. Oh and know this. We just mentioned at the doctors office that I had been on Angie's list and Martha's hands looked appropriate. Nurse strongly encouraged that I go with them. Later I meet one of dad's neighbors (a former nurse) in the hall and told her I was considering Martha's Hands. Her son had worked for them and she too strongly encouraged hiring them.

We're very happy with them. The people they sent in home were helpful, kind and open. They took care of both of our moms. We just really been like intake. I don't think they have registered nurse and they spend about an hour and a half with us just trying to make sure that they had everything. We have them for 24 hours after a surgery. We would definitely recommend them.

The client's husband died suddenly. I called Martha's Hands and a nurse came out the next day and did an assessment.

I want to recommend Martha's Hands. They are very efficient. They are taking care of my parents. Their communication with me and the nurse is really good. We have had nothing but good experiences. Their rate are about the same as other companies. If they need to change days they will call me to make sure it is okay.I will continue to use them.

They were very, very good, but expensive. They were here 24 hours a day. They pretty much took care of everything. When I got to the point where I wanted to get out, they would drive me. They took care of everything. I would recommend them. The overall experience was excellent. They were available and punctual. I would probably not use this provider again, because they are too expensive.

I think they were very good. Basically, I called them at 5 o'clock in the night, and they had somebody at my house at 7 o'clock that evening, so they were very prompt. I was impressed with most of their service and the fact that they were able to help me immediately. I would use them again in the future.

i am still using this company. the caregiver we have is great... the scheduling people are very helpful... there is a nurse available for any changes in health and they always send someone who is qualified... i have no worries about leaving my mother with anyone they send...in fact the last week our caregiver could not make it and one of their nurses came to pitch is and stayed the whole time.... they always send a nurse with a new caregiver and the nurse goes over what is needed to be done.... you don't have to do it....don't bother calling any other company.

Unfortunately, it didn't work out. They couldn't handle my mother at all. They had to get someone else to come. They sent a young pregnant girl who was just used to being a companion, I told them ahead of the time that I needed a skilled nurse. They even had a nurse come in to do an assessment and she determined that my mother needed a skilled nurse. I was mislead. I wouldn't recommend them.
Response from Martha's Hands LLC
"We feel sad when a client no longer uses our services. Matching client/family requests, client needs and client expectations with appropriate caregivers is a top priority. That is why Martha's Hands has developed care systems over the past 17 years to improve our care start-up and care matching. We begin the process by conducting Initial Nursing Assessments with our Nurse Care Managers (free of charge to the client). During these Assessments, our Nurse Care Manager is gathering information in order to develop a customized service plan that will enable us to identify an appropriate caregiver. When the caregiver arrives at the client's home for the first time, our Nurse Care Manager meets them there at the beginning of their assignment. During this orientation, our Nurse Care Manager introduces the client to the caregiver (reducing any anxiety) and instructs the caregiver to the client's written service plan so they know exactly what the expectations are for the client's care. They also review any special equipment needed to care for the client. Our Nurse Care Manager is available 24/7 for any questions or clarifications while caring for our clients. We hope all client/caregiver matchings will be perfect the first time. With misunderstandings of expectations or personality issues, this is not always the case. That is why our Staffign Team is available 24/7 to replace an existing caregiver immediately or replace a caregiver for future assignments to meet the client/family requests. We are confident that one of our over 300 caregivers will be able to meet our client's needs. While Martha's Hands has provided over 3,000,000 hours of care to thousands of clients, we are not perfect. Managing client/family expectations can be challenging. We always welcome feedback from clients/family and work tirelessly to meet their expectations. If a client/family has any challenges, we welcome them to contact our Leadership Team to resolve their issue."
