not reliable for schedule, basically did not want to do the work-as he stated

It took him a couple of weeks to even respond since he was on vacation. When we finally connected, he restated that he can do other jobs since the porch swing would not take too long and he was even going to bring his apprentice. I was so excited that I offered to buy them lunch. The day of the install, I texted him to get started since I was running late. he could text me his lunch orders but could not text me to ask me where I wanted the swing. I was mad when I arrived because I have a decent sized front porch and he puts the swing on the edge of the porch so that as soon as the swing went back, it would be exposed to the elements. When I told him that the swing needs to be put closer in so I would not get wet if I were swinging and it was raining, he said he never heard of putting a swing "THAT FAR" inside a porch. He could not find a stud and did not have a stud finder and put about 10 holes in my porch ceiling trying to locate one blindly. He knocked on my door and started telling me how he built homes and knew how framing was and it looks like another stud was not available where it was SUPPOSED to be at 16' or 24". This guy spoke to me (not sure if it matters that I am a female) as if I were stupid on top of that; I have an engineering background though but did not disclose that to him. I asked him the options and he said he could go to Home Depot to purchase a stud finder or try and use an anchor without a stud but would not guarantee the work then. I told him to go to HD. It took him almost an hour to get the stud finder when the Home Depot is 2 miles away. He still could not find a stud with the stud finder and put in more holes in my porch ceiling. He kept going on and on about how competent he really was and how he has done so many jobs. When he told me he did not know what to do, I then told him what to do by taking a small side of the siding off so he could find the stud. When he looked through the opening, he AMAZINGLY found a stud AND it was at 24" in from the edge, even though he said there was none. His apprentice was laughing at him the whole time. It took him a few minutes to hang up the swing after I showed him how to find a stud. He then stood around and then made excuses that you never know how long a project was going to take and this one took longer so I needed to pay him for the extra time. I told him that he would have still never found the stud if I had not helped him and that he spent an hour at Home Depot. They left a huge mess of boxes AND their lunch I bought them. He said he would have had to charge me for the extra time if he cleaned up. The job looks shoddy. The swing anchors are placed in different directions (perpendicular from each other). The extra holes he made are everywhere. I just received a letter (25 July) that there is a lien going to be placed on me if I don't pay him for his extra two hours "working on my project," including the hour at Home Depot. If he could have found the stud, then it would have taken him less than an hour.

This provider is dishonest, unprofessional, careless, and a bully. Joshua claims he pays attention to the details, but I think not. Look for someone else for work on your home, especially single women and I would imagine elderly persons. Provider did the work at my home with "some other guy" while I was at work; a neighbor checked in on them. The neighbor told me that Joshua sat in his truck most of the day, and the "other guy" did the work. That's just strange; either Joshua is hiding something or he is just plain lazy. One of the things he told me when he first came to look at the project was that he just sat back and watched while the other guy did the work which I found very odd. I thought perhaps he was just bragging, like he was the BIG BOSS. He bragged quite a bit and repeatedly told me about all the projects he has done and the homes he has built. Project was supposed to include replacing wood damaged by water inside the garage above the door. Did not bother to notify me at work that he couldn't do that part of the work, and didn't tell me when we went over the work later on - I just happened to notice. Joshua told me when he first looked at it the water damaged wood that it had to come out. I would think he would know ahead of time he couldn't get the wood out because it was glued to other boards. He did get ahold of me at work so he could come by and get paid after I got off. Did not show up at the appointed time, did not let me know he would be late, had to contact him to find out what was going on. Ruined my evening. I had worked an 11 hour day. When I first came home I noticed my garage floor was covered with sawdust and I found a nail on the floor. When he finally showed up he didn't seem to want to go over the work, but I did. I had some questions and concerns, and he seemed to develop an attitude - seemingly angry and indignant that I would question any of his work. I noticed earlier that when the garage door closed, it crumpled the vinyl seal on the garage door opening at the bottom. He asked me if I wanted him to fix it (like really, I wouldn't want that fixed?). I also thought one of them had pushed in one of the garage door panels past the tabs that hold it in place. It was letting a lot of light into my normally dark garage. Joshua said they didn't do it and but would fix it because "I am a nice guy". As he was leaving I found another nail on the driveway and gave it to him. He didn't apologize or say anything about it. The next day after I got off work I had a better look at the project when I was not so tired. They put trim nails through my siding above the garage door to hold it down. In one spot the siding was cracked open in the shape of a crescent and then some, obviously where someone had tried to hammer in a nail and the nail flew off into the air (probably the one on the garage floor). The damage had a divot in the middle where the nail was supposed to go through, and was the same trim nails used on the rest of the project in new condition. Since this siding had to be completely exposed to be able to hammer a nail into it I knew whoever cracked the siding had to know as soon as they damaged it. They put a line of nails the length of the garage door opening and this damage was in the middle of the length of the garage door. They then put trim and a channel over it which is why it is so hard to see. It is partially obstructed by the white trim as you can see in the photo I included in this review. I could also tell by his previous demeanor I would never get money back out of him, so I cancelled the check I had written. I did not want him doing anything else at my home since he had not been honest. Since I was at work I texted Joshua and let him know that I found damage to the siding, and that someone would be coming by to give me an estimate to replace it, then we would take it from there. Joshua sent a slew of text messages that became more intimidating and eventually threatened to come and rip out the work he had done. Joshua demanded cash that day and said he would involve the law. I told him to go ahead, he needed to pay more attorney's fees than he already does and to stop threatening me. Joshua also left a voice mail trying to intimidate me and told me again how nice he is. Joshua continued to text me trying to bully me, demanding that I had to pay, that I was stealing from him... The damage to my siding will cost $253 to repair. I deducted that from his total bill and sent Joshua a check. I did ask him to send pictures of the receipts for the supplies for my home. He made 4, count them, 4 trips to Lowe's for supplies. He charges for these trips. Joshua went to a Lowe's when there is one closer, and there is a hardware store about one mile my home, and a Home Depot 5 minutes from my home. The Lowe's on West Clay is closer to my home than the one he went to. Of note he never presented me with an itemized bill so I do not know exactly what the final charges included. I don't know if Joshua will continue his abuse. I should have read the comments more carefully that people had made about him previously. All of this was totally unnecessary and unprofessional. He did not take responsibility for anything. As a consumer we need to understand that Angie's List does not screen the people that buy ads. They do not check for criminal history or references. It is so easy to check for criminal history Missouri at Casenet.gov.

Joshua and his helper arrived exactly when they said they would. We discussed what needed to be done and they left to pick up the needed wood and paint. They got back soon and went right to work. I was very pleased with how everything looked when they finished. I would definitely use this company again.

This part of the job did not go well. When he left the job that day, I pointed out that some areas looked grey and others more white. He said he thought when the paint dried it would look fine because he never had a problem with this. The next morning the discoloration in various areas was still apparent and the repair itself was not smooth and stuck out like a sore thumb. I emailed Joshua to cancel other work that I had scheduled with him because of the lack of quality on this job. I told him I would need to have the job re-done as the entire room was due to be painted. I never heard back. i feel that I paid too much for this specific part of the job and that he was uninterested in making it right by offering to fix it or giving me a partial refund. I am sorry this happened because he seems to be capable of doing many different kinds of repairs and does repairing of rotted wood on the outside of the home that was the job I had to cancel. I use Angie's List "Big Deals" often but will be more cautious from now on.

I bought a "big Deal" offer from Beaty Home Improvement to have this service done and was assured I had made the right decision when I met Josh and Gary. I was late getting off from work and when I arrived home - their truck was parked in front of my house - they were on time - I was not. Josh was very courteous and displayed confidence helping me decide which numbers to place where - I had several choices. Josh and Gary took great care to make sure the numbers were spaced well and anchored properly. Josh spray painted a plaque for the front of the house before adding the numbers and the effect gives an architectural flair. The garage was a bit of a challenge trying to determine a place to display the numbers and Josh made a good suggestion to put them on the side of the door frame where they can be seen by anyone approaching. Gary also assisted me in lifting some heavy items from my car - making far fewer trips than I would have done on my own. I give him kudos for his help in that respect. Before leaving, I informed Josh of other projects I need to have done and discussing options with him - I plan to use Beaty's services again and do recommend others do the same.

Category says Lawn & Yard work, however, this was handyman work inside the house. Went ok though it took the apprentice/helper a very long time to put the tables together. I was not charged for the extra time. The 4 shades in the family room all fell off the windows within a couple of weeks. My neighbor put them back up for me and said he would have applied the strip with the adhesive differently to lessen the pull of the weigh from the shades and was surprised the adhesive strip was placed underneath the window frame. It could have been the product though I've used these shades several places in the past and never had that problem. i didn't hang the previous ones so cannot say how they were applied.

The repairs were performed over several Saturday afternoons. The repairs were all relatively small and simple. They involved some painting and replacing trim; fixing a fireplace; installing a dishwasher and garbage disposal with associated plumbing; and replacing some window screens. The work was done well and was not too expensive.

Mr. Beaty responded to my voicemail message regarding kitchen remodel. He arrived at my home with an assistant to measure and access the kitchen. He seemed very knowledgable and interested in taking on this project. A week or two later, I received an email from Mr. Beaty which included a new floor plan of my kitchen. We had a telephone conversation shortly thereafter to discuss the plans. Mr. Beaty informed me that he would be going out of town for a few days. In his absence, I was instructed to go shop for kitchen cabinets and other items on my own. Being that I am new to this type of project, I was unsure as to how to go about finding the correct cabinets on my own. When I arrived at my local home improvement store, I was told by the kitchen designer that I need to bring the kitchen measurements with me. Unfortunately, Mr. Beaty did not include this information in his email. Luckily, I received the correct measurements for a totally different contractor. Therefore, I was able to get a better idea of what the project would cost me. As of today, I never received a call back from Mr. Beaty. I assume that he has returned from his trip and is too back logged with other projects.

Did not hear from contractor. Called a couple days later. Contractor said he didn't see the appointment times I had scheduled on line. I asked how did the coupon in conjunction to the work that I wanted done work. I told him that I didn't know what materials I needed for the jobs that I wanted done. He said that he had an appointment in my area and after the appointment he would swing by and access the jobs and tell me what materials to buy in which he did. He said that he was booked for that week and the next. He said he was going out of town on the 27th and would call me either before or after and set up a time for him to perform the work. May 27th has come and gone. I received no phone calls and the work still needs to be done. Since I never heard back from the contractor, I decided to cancel the coupon and have someone else perform the work.

The only issue was that we expected him to come on the 5th and be done by 5 but this was not the case he last minute had to move to the 6th. Other than that he did a great job and we would use him again.

Hired him twice because he was so helpful. Even presented me with some jobs that needed to be done that I had not noticed before. This is a young, honest guy who knows how to do many things. Could even work without the homeowner at home. Can be trusted. Terrific!

Sent pics. Said would come out twice and didnt show. It is a busy season for contractors and handymen, I understand. But, I needed my deck board completed immediately due to another company coming to stain the deck. Scheduling conflicts. I had to move on, I never received even one call, only emails. The one conversation I had over the phone, I initiated and was rushed to get to the point. Just would like to have my refund, was forced to do this review in order to get the refund.

I don't want a company that treats customers like this to do work for me.

Everything went very well. Mr. Beatty was at my home for less than 2 hours. I had wanted a kitchen faucet fixed, but I didn't understand the issue. I needed a new faucet and didn't have it. Mr. Beatty did have a helper with him. They accomplished a lot in a very short amount of time.

I was very pleased with him. He did a very good job.

We worked with Josh. He's prompt, good and quickly done with the job. He’s excellent, responsive and he did everything fine.

Fantastic job! Incredible how many work Josh got done in 2 hours, and everything looked fantastic. Will definitely use in the future and highly recommend.

It went great and would use him again

Josh initially told me it would take a couple of weeks before he could get to my job he had such a big response from the Angie's List special he ran of 2 hours of handyman work. But he called me the following week and scheduled it for the following day. He arrived with a helper. I was pleased that he thoroughly looked into the issue with the gutter. We thought it had a seam come loose or end cap and that was causing the leak. He found that it was slanted incorrectly so he repositioned it and fastened it more securely. He also fixed a loose piece of siding. He also told us where we could order a missing part for a vent on the eve of the house and that he would install it when he comes back. We have scheduled him to return to paint our shutters and front door. Josh was pleasant and friendly. We were pleased with the service and will be using him again.

Joshua and his assistant came after normal business hours. They did a very professional job pulling a lot of carpet and tacking. They removed all the staples and nails that remained on the hardwood floor underneath. I HIGHLY recommend him and I have already requested a bid for future work on painting the exterior of the house. I did give an extra $20 since he did have an assistant and the work was done after 5pm. I would advise giving the extra money as additional tip for a job well done....the service is done for $69 is very underpriced in my opinion.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal on March 17, 2014. Joshua emailed me on the following day. We spoke by telephone several times and I emailed him pictures of the deck. I removed the wood from the upper part of the deck and we set a date for him to do the repair work. He got to my house mid-morning on April 8, and got to work removing a damaged post, and replacing that post and all the cross rails and cap rails and balusters. He also sawed the old cap rails so they could be discarded easily in a trash pickup. He worked efficiently and was able to complete all the work within 4 hours. Not only is the deck much sturdier, but it looks much better with the work that he did.
