(also see my previous report for this same company last year). 'Been assisting my brother with contractors for purchase of his home and remodel. Knowing how happy we were with Cornerstone, 'was unnecessary to obtain other bids for his nearly whole-house window replacement. Meshelle came out a time that worked for both my brother and me. Again, no pressure sale! Just like last time, she made sure to understand our budget, our needs, and offered all styles/options within. She was honest to say that three of the newer windows by the previous owner were good quality and didn't need replaced. Meshelle also mentioned that the window in the shower needed to be tempered glass for safety, if replaced (we did). Our bid was priced per-window, in case full 20 was too big a bite at once. She accomodated our special circumstance and communicated by email, always available for questions by phone too. In the end, my brother went with their lowest price point. But understand that even the most affordable windows by Cornerstone are better than any upsales by other companies, by far. I do know: went through several of those competitive, exhausting sales pitches last year. Because this family owned company prides themselves in great products and customer satisfaction, they do not offer what they won't put in their own homes. And they are not single-brand loyalbut have a business relationship with various manufacturers. The windows are not stock --Cornerstone remeasures each window to fraction of an inch when you contract with them, and sends the order to manufacturer. Turn around time was less than 8 weeks, probably much less, as I cannot find our info right off hand. The co-owner installed in less than two solid days; very personable and professional. Our inside window casings are still originals (might paint later down the road), but the way that the windows are installed, they look seamless against the jamb! The install, wrap, cleanup, and disposal immaculate! Went with solid white outside wraps, though color options were numerous. These windows are beautiful! They are great quality, and Cornerstone's product and installation warranties are rare if not exclusive in the industry. Another point I'll put in this review, is that properly frames/sealed installation is just as important, if not moreso, as the windows themselves. I discovered Cornerstone through an independent Home Energy Auditor that I hired over a year ago: Mary English with Small Steps Energy Solutions. As an aside, at my own home, my dog tore a couple of our screens right before my brother's install. Cornerstone rescreened them for a reasonable fee. The screens Cornerstone uses for every window are not plastic and will not be eaten by insects, as some products on the market. Finally, the company offers a list of homes for your area if you're interested. If you swing by to look at mine, the dust and water droplets are no reflection on their workmanship, ha! Check out their website, and in the end, know you'd be hard pressed to find a better managed, stand up company anywhere --yet thankful they're right here in Kansas City!

My experience with this company was wonderful. This is a family owned business that has been in operation for several years. The salesman was thorough and pleasant with the explanation of work to be done. The owner and his son actually did the work themselves. They were very efficient and I have received compliments on the windows from other contractors.

Windows crew showed up before expected. Not a problem and glad to have that part the job started and finished early. Scheduler for siding installation called when materials arrived shortly thereafter. Siding crew showed up and started the job, working every day until dark. They had to take one day off (a Sunday) because they ran out of J-channel. Not a problem, either, as it rained all day anyway. They returned Monday morning and completed the job. The lead crew man was very informative, answering all my questions and doing over a few minor mistakes to my satisfaction. The house looks great and we are very happy with Cornerstone for the overall job. We would recommend them to anyone.

This was an extremely smooth project from start to finish. The sales representative was professional and informative, but not at all pushy. I was also very glad to work with a local, family-owned company. Installation was quick and efficient, with virtually no disruption to our household routine. The company’s responsiveness and attention to detail were top-notch, from the initial bid to follow-up after the job was done. You could certainly pay less for replacement windows and doors, but I can't imagine getting a better value for my money. I will certainly use CHI for future projects.
Description of Work: Cornerstone installed 9 double-hung replacement windows on the front of our two-story home, as well as a new sliding glass door and a large picture window in the master bath. The job included wood rot repair where needed.

A A+ job all the way around.. This company is one I would reccommend. I later learned that a neighbor had this company install windows also several years before my installation and were just as pleased with their product. The KEY to my satisfaction in this process of having windows replaced was the research and interviews, not giving into pressure and gulit from salesmen, learning about the different products available, and understanding what I was looking for in energy efficientcy and style or look of windows. I can live with these windows for the rest of my life in this home.
Description of Work: All 15 windows replaced in home with Soft Lite Imperial LS windows - 7 casements, 3 double hungs, 1 triple casement & 1 2-lite slider. After interviewing 9 different window replacemnet companies and 3 second interviews, I choose Cornerstone because: 1-they had what I was was wanting (wood grain on the inside and white vinyl on the outside), 2-price was acceptable, 3-the window style they offered was attractive to my taste, 4-the "dog and pony show" on the first interview was almost non-existant (which is good thing), 5-their professionalism was home town friendly (they did not come accross as I being a potential commission). The order was placed in mid April, told it would take 4 to 6 weeks for delivery. I received a call in late May to schedule delivery and installation. Installment was done on a Saturday. Workers arrived early (7:30 am) and finished around 7 pm. They did a smooth job and cleanup was efficient.

Cornerstone was the only installer that we got an estimate from that installed Soft-Lite Imperial LS windows. For these high quality vinyl windows the estimate was a very good price, when compared to estimates we got for lower quality windows. All windows were air tight installed in one day with trim work finished up the second day. Their service and products were outstanding. One thing that set Cornerstone apart, was a comment the owner made when we were getting our estimate. We asked if we needed to pay any of the cost in advance for the windows, since they are all custom ordered. The response was, "No, we don't believe in the customer paying until the job is completed to their satisfaction.". Following the installation, Cornerstone made a courtesy call to follow up with us, to ask if we had any questions or concerns and to thank us again for selecting them.

They were efficient, careful and courteous. Sales person that gave us an estimate explained things well. First day had multiple crews here that were able to break down the work by areas (basement, first and second floor), and get all the windows installed. Second day, a single crew showed up to do the final detailing. When one minor problem arose, one window was the incorrect design, they took care of the problem within days. Also, a few of the screens had minor damage, but they fixed those and made sure everything was cleaned up. Only minor quibble with the windows is with the ones that have the recessed locks. Too easy to have those in the wrong position when closing the window, which can bark up the frame, but getting used to them. Also, since they slide fairly easily, sometimes have to hold the upper window while close the lower window so they line up properly when locking. However, all the windows are well made, and we can certainly tell the difference in insulating quality from our old wood frame windows.

Seamless process, start to finish. See my review above.
Description of Work: Extremely pleased with our new windows from Cornerstone! Very important: this company came recommended by the home energy auditor we hired (who, by the way, was not biased. Replacing windows was not included in the audit analysis). We just wanted all new ones in addition to our home's necessary insulation, air infiltration, and energy conservation improvements. Anyhow, this professional recommendation speaks volumes for Cornerstone in high quality, energy efficient products and equally important --proper installation!!! Before armed with this impressive bit of info, we did obtain other bids and poured over their samples within our price range. Cornerstone's pricing is absolutely competitive to the overly-advertised companies; yet Cornerstone's windows are better and their customer service bar-none. This company offers several options and multiple manufacturers, and their warranty on installation exemplifies confidence in workmanship and commitment to consumer! Our salesperson was helpful in finding the right windows for our needs. The gentleman who measurered for our order, insured the windows were built to spec. The installers/co-owner finished the job in one day; no trace they were even here except our beautiful windows inside and out! Pour over their website. Cornerstone's owners/employees are knowledgable and sincere. My family is looking forward to doing business with them in the future.

We live in a 70 year old house. Some windows have been replaced by other owners. We had many more shabby, leaky windows and wanted to replace them. This company had good Angie's references and a good offer for individual window replacement costs. A salesman came to our house to give us an estimate. My major concern - beyond workmanship - was the quality of the windows - most particularly - would they prevent fogging? I asked the salesman, and he said they had a 100% guarantee of replacement if fogging occurred in the first 25 years. GREAT! I used to work for a commercial rental firm, and fogged patio doors and windows created horrible problems for us and the residents. To make a long story short - there were hiccups in the installation. Oveall, we got a nice installation, but it took five times as long as promised. Then we got the warrantee - and the windows are not warranteed for fogging. YEEEGOSH! That is such major issue. What liars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Response from Cornerstone Home Improvement
We had NO IDEA this customer had any complaints with us at all! In fact, I (one of the owners) make it a practice to call each customer after the installation to make sure they have no issues and are completely satisfied. I called and spoke with Phil the day after we installed his windows. My notes show that he mentioned nothing about being unhappy. It is disturbing to us that he gave us such a low rating yet didn't tell us of any of his complaints. We work very hard to make sure all of our customers are happy and completely satisfied. In fact, we work incredibly hard to maintain the fact that 65% of ALL of our business comes from referrals and repeat business. I am confused with the overall F rating as he gave the quality, responsiveness, and price all A's. And he stated that he "got a nice installation." (1) As far as the job taking five times longer than we promised, we WERE a few days behind our estimated time--but not five times as long! We measured the job on the 19th of May (the date the customer scheduled with us) and installed them on the 28th of June. That is five and a half weeks-or 3 days over the range of what we always tell customers. (We tell customers-in person and in a follow up letter- between three to five weeks since all of our windows are custom made.) We would NEVER tell a customer it would take one (or even two) weeks! (2) As far as being liars, this upsets us GREATLY, as we have worked very diligently over the years to represent our company and products in a fair, trustworthy, and honest manner at all times. It is HUGE with us that we don't come across or perform in any way other than trustworthy. (3)The fogging issue has me equally perplexed. When a customer asks if the windows will fog up and if they are guaranteed not to, we assume they mean between the panes of glass since this seems to be the most common reason as to why customers replace existing thermal windows. ALL of our windows are warrantied against this. Most of them (except our wooden windows) are warrantied for lifetime-some pro-rated, some not. In fact, we carry our manufacturer's warranties with us and gladly show them in our sales process. As the warranty we sent him clearly states, "The installed and sealed ViWinTech insulating glass unit is warranted against sealant defects resulting in material obstruction of vision from film formation caused by dust or MOISTURE in the air space of the sealed unit. If such defects occur, ViWinTech will provide a replacement insulated glass unit at no charge for the period stated below. If the glass should fail after the specified period then ViWinTech will cover a fixed percentage of the company's retail list price for the insulating glass unit based on the schedule listed below. 100% 0-20 years, 75% 21-50 years, 50% 51-lifetime." I have NO IDEA why this customer thinks these windows are not covered for seal failure and why he would say we are liars. Should he be talking about condensation on the EXTERIOR glass (not between the two or three panes of our windows) NO Window will guarantee that condensation won't get on the glass. I'm assuming this is NOT what he was referring to since condensation is moisture and doesn't fog the windows. However, if this WAS what he was referring to, condensation isn't a result of the window but is a result of too much humidity in the home. All of our manufacturers--Andersen, Soft Lite, Pella, ViWinTech, Sunrise/Vanguard, Revere, Simonton, Weathershield, etc....clearly state that condensation on the exterior of the glass is not a performance flaw and is not something that the window can prevent, but is instead a humidity issue in the home. This is the only thing I can think of that this customer might be referring to? And, I'm sure, if the sales person had thought this is what the customer was referring to, he would have explained this. All of my sales people have been with me at LEAST six years and each know our different warranties well. (4) As far as some 'installation hiccups,’ I am very confused about this, as well. There have been no services written up from this customer indicating dissatisfaction with anything, there were no notes in my follow up call to indicate any installation 'hiccups,' the installation crew recalls no unusual circumstances, and the customer signed the completion the day of the install with no added notes, with the box marked "I(We) herby certify that all articles and materials have been furnished and installed and the work SATISFACTORILY completed on premises indicated in my (our) contract." We always welcome any feedback that this or any of our customers might have and want to remedy any issue should one occur. We actually employ a service man specifically to handle any possible issues. After 35 years of business, with an average between 2 to 3 million in annual sales, we have a lot of windows, doors and siding that could have potential warranty issues. It is critical for us to maintain all of our present and past customers satisfaction level and provide them with the high level of service that is expected and that we've become known for over the years.

The man who came out to do the estimate was very professional and gave me a lot of information in a way that was easy to understand. They had a lot of different price options and even the product with the lowest price was a lot better quality than others I had seen. They worked with me on the price when a competitor was considerably cheaper (but much less profesional). They even held the price for me even though I couldn't afford to pay for it until 2 months after the estimate. It all seemed absolutely perfect until I started trying to put trim on the windows and found that the depths of the windows were all different, even on opposite sides of the same window, as much as a quarter inch on the same window and up to 1/2 an inch between 2 different windows. That's making it really difficult, since I have to custom cut each piece.

Got several estimates for window replacements. I did my homework and found that the Soft Lite Imperial LS Window is one of the most energy efficient windows on the market. Only Cornestone carries them. They also had the best price, and best warranty of any competitors. The salesman was professional and not pushy. The installers were professional and did all I asked of them. They required no money down, but payment in full upon inspection and completion.

I had three companies and a private contractor make estimates. This company is a family owned business. They came to the house and explained what would be finished and any special changes to the standard contract was made which included: a better insulation; all shakes removed; one new window had to be reframed to become larger; one new window built into a wall where there had been none. Overall, was pleased with their work and responsiveness especially management. One special size window was replaced as it had been made with dividers wrong. The windows and the siding were made by Reynolds. No aluminum but vinyl.
Description of Work: This company replaced windows and installed siding. I have never had this type of work completed before but did my homework even going to see vinyl windows made to understand the options available at the time for the type of sealing used for keeping the argon gas between the two panes of glass.

Extremely excellent. The estimator came out and was here at the point in time that he was supposed to be. I'd tried another company and the guy showed up an hour late and didn't bring anything with him. The Cornerstone sales person had the model with him and all the information together, and then they ordered the windows. Two installers came and it only took them four hours to install six windows, which included wrapping the moldings. The windows are excellent. They did a great job of installation and they were about 40% cheaper than anybody else. I would use them again in the future and recommend them to others.
