All work was completed on time and the results are impressive. You can't tell that they replaced the two sections of the ceiling where the mold was removed. They applied textured (popcorn) paint to two repaired areas and spray-painted all of the ceiling areas in the entry foyer and hallway. Everything looks perfect!
I understand that Midwest Restoration Technologies also does other repair work. I would definitely ask these guys for a quote for other work around my home.
They helped me to put in a few upgrades as a good price. I put all new carpet in the house (as we had to replace some of the carpet) and also replaced the sliding glass door with a large window and door to have a french door appearance. The challenge was that I purchased the door and window at a rehab store and I did not know what a problem that would cause because there wasn't any framing. MRT explained the difference and sucessfully built framing for both items. My only complaint about this is that at the bottom, under the threshold, there is still the track for the sliding glass door that was there. I didn't even notice it until I was installing a storm door on the outside.
I was very pleased with the outcome and them completing the work when they said they would. Another great bonus is that they stand behind their work and will make repairs to any issues (such as my wood floors) for as long as I own the house.
George from Midwest Technologies helped us from start to finish. We discovered mold growing in our closet from a leaky pipe from behind the walls and ceiling. He assured us from the beginning that everything would be resolved and the mold would be completely remediated. He was always available for questions. Very professional and knowledgable. He took care of the removal of the moldy drywall and started the mold remediation process right away. He contacted the plumbing company United Plumbing and took care of everything for us. He and his guys came in and protected our hardwood flooring in the entry to ensure no stratches or messes while plumbing work was done. Both the secretary and George have been very nice and helpful through this process. The only thing I was dissappointed in was, there were basement boards that could have very easily been placed back up but this was not included in the initial scope, it was a seperate charge just to nail our boards and trim back up in the basement.
.Water from a sprinkler had been hitting the seam between stone work and the wood frame in front of my garage. The caulking there had deteriorated causing water to enter. I noticed a small amount what appeared to be black mold at the seam in one place and was concerned there was more behind the wall. I didn't know who to call so I checked Angie's List and came up with Midwest Restoration Technologies who were very highly rated
I called Midwest Restoration Technologies on Wednesday 10/5/11 and spoke to Nicole the office manager. She said she would check with the guys out in the field and find out when they could come to my home. She called back within a few hours and said they were booked up today but that Brandon Jones could come at 9 AM on Thursday.. He arrive right on time the next morning and I described the problem to him. He did some moisture checking through the inside wall and said it didn't give very high readings and there probably wasn't a major problem. However, he said you couldn't be sure without cutting out a piece of the sheet rock and visually inspecting the area. I said I was reluctant to do that myself and said he would do it and there would be no charge. If I wanted his people to replace the sheet rock, mud, sand and paint (they would match and provide the paint) it, the cost would be $335.
Brandon cut an inspection panel in the sheet rock behind the area of concern. Fortunately there was no mold present. The particle board was wet in a small area at the bottom corner. So Brandon cut another inspection opening in the adjoining wall to be sure there was no mold in that area. It was OK with only a very small wet area. I told Brandon I was having a stone mason out to do some tuck pointing of the mortar, caulking and sealing the stone. He suggested that I ask him if the wet particle board presented any problem to the adhesion of the stone, just to be sure. This would have to be fixed from the outside.
Brandon was prompt, pleasant and thoroughly professional. He was at my home over an hour and there was no charge. I did not commit to having the sheet rock work done by him and there was no pressure from him to do so. I believe the charge for that work is very reasonable, but wish to wait until the area dries out and the stone mason completes his work. Midwest Restoration Technologies appears to be a company not looking to make a quick buck, but one looking to build their business by good customer service. I would recommend them to anyone who needs the type of service they provide.
I had just renewed my subscription to Angie's List a few weeks ago and have used it several times since. Mold is such an area of concern, it was comforting to be able to choose a company based on the experience of Angie's List customers.
