They do a very good job. They have done oil changes, something was wrong with the transmission. They even gave my husband a ride home so he did not have to sit and wait. They will tell you the truth on how much it will cost and if it is even worth it. They are excellent.

Very well. Jon was friendly and professional. Got a great vibe from the place just being there a few minutes - felt very welcomed. Jon explained everything pertaining to the inspections as I am new to Saint Louis and unfamiliar with the process. I scheduled another safety and emissions tests for my second vehicle and will be doing additional service to my Saturn there. Keep up the great work guys !

I have a Ford Ranger in for inspection. It failed and they are doing a few repairs to it. Service Advisor Jon told me on 02/01/16 that work will be done on 02/02/16. It was almost 7PM on 02/02, no one have called. So I called to check and Steven said that it will be done on 02/03/16 for sure and he will call me first thing in the morning. No one have called, so I called around 4:30 and Jon tells me it won't be done until 02/04/16 and the only reason is they have 72 cars to work on. I can understand if a shop is busy, but some communication would be nice to keep me updated so I don't make plans picking up the car when there is a 2 day delay. When the explanation is simply we have 72 cars makes customer feel like they are not valued at al. l

auto repair, radiator service

On Thursday, Jun 25th, 2015, our 2001 Toyota Camry, with 153k miles, overheated on the interstate. After seeing the temperature gauge rise and white smoke starting to come from the engine compartment, the car was pulled off to the shoulder and we had AAA tow it to Roy?s Auto. Roy?s is a AAA recommended repair shop and rated very highly on Angie?s List. On Friday, the service advisor, Jon, called and told us that the radiator had split in half. They found a large amount of ?Stop Leak? in the coolant system, apparently left over from the previous owner, and advised us to replace most of the components in the coolant system ($670). They also advised that this may not solve the problem, but they would not be able to assess further damage as long as the coolant system was in such an extremely damaged state. We asked them to proceed with the repair, accepting that there may be further repairs needed. After replacing the coolant system, the shop ran the engine and found that there were still hydrocarbons (car exhaust) coming through the coolant system. This indicated further issues, which may be solved by replacing the head gasket or some head bolts. There was a possibility that the head itself may be cracked, and the work to replace the head gasket would not be enough to get the car fully repaired at this point. The best case scenario had an estimated cost of $1300 in addition to the $670 we had already spent on the cooling system, so we asked how functional the car was without these repairs. We had been considering getting rid of the car before the plates needed to be renewed in August, and so were debating the value of putting in 70 to 100% of the value of the car in repairs. We were told that the car was drivable, and also that several mechanics and Jon himself may be interested in buying the car if we were not going to have it repaired. With this information, and reassurance that the car was drivable, at least for the 10 miles it would take to get home, I told Jon that we would not be continuing on with repairs, and to let anyone interested know that we were open to offers for the car. We went to pick up the car on Saturday, June 27th, just before the shop closed at 3 PM. I again asked Jon to make sure that the car was drivable and we could get it home; he confirmed it was. We pressed further, to see if we needed to keep the car under a certain speed or drive it for short durations only, and he said only to keep an eye on the gauges and watch for any increase in temperature. I also asked Jon if anyone in the shop had made any mention of an offer on the car, and he mentioned that it was a good opportunity, but he did not need another project. I paid the $670 we owed for the coolant system, and drove the car away from the shop as they closed for the day. About 3 minutes into the drive, not even a mile away, I saw the temperature gauge climbing, and so pulled off the road and opened the hood. After waiting about 30 minutes for the car to cool off, I started to drive again, this time through the neighborhood roads, rather than the highway. About 3 more minutes into the drive, the car was overheating again, so I pulled over. With the help of a friendly couple who lived nearby, we added water to the radiator. The water we added just ran out the bottom of the radiator, as the drain plug was open. This is the same radiator that Roy?s had just installed, in the car that they assured me was drivable. The drain plug was open, so there could not have been any fluid in the radiator, despite the coolant reservoir containing coolant. I found the drain plug and closed it, and then added more water.I then tried again to drive the car towards home, where the car overheated again a short while later. I ended up calling AAA again and having the car towed back home. After leaving the repair shop at 3 PM, we made it back home with the ?drivable? car at 7 PM, after having it towed. In total, I may have driven the car 3 miles in a little over 3 hours. On Sunday we sold the car, after disclosing all known issues and recent repairs to the car. We are now in the market for a new car and a new auto shop. I have three issues with the service that I received. First, I was told that the car was drivable in its condition. It was clearly not. I never would have attempted to drive the car home if I thought it might not make it more than a few minutes before overheating. This is a safety concern for me and a serious issue. If there was any doubt that the car could function sufficiently for me to drive it home, then it should have been raised and I would have looked for alternatives to retrieve the car from the shop parking lot. Second, the coolant system was replaced, but no one closed the drain plug on the radiator. I told the service advisor that I intended to drive the car home, and that I would not be making further repairs. At that point, I feel that the cooling system repairs should have been checked for finality, including fluid in the radiator, which would have obviously not been there. This should have led someone to add coolant until they could observe fluid in the radiator cap, which should have led to someone closing the radiator drain plug after coolant leaked out onto the floor. Third, I feel that the mention of offers from folks around the shop to buy the car was an underhanded sales tactic meant to encourage us to perform the additional repairs. This sort of discussion without any evidence to back it up sends a signal to me that the service advisor cannot be trusted and will say anything to increase business. There may have been talk in the shop about the well maintained interior condition of the car and discussion of wanting to buy the car and repair it themselves, but with no substance received on our end, I am skeptical that this was ever the case. Update: I spoke with Steve from Roy?s and we discussed the issues that I had. He was sincere in his expression that he wished that we did not have these issues, and mentioned that I should have called him over the weekend before I posted this review. I did not think to call the shop on Saturday, as they were closed for the day and did not expect anyone to answer. He fully refunded the money we spent to get the radiator repaired, as he felt that the radiator plug was indeed their fault and felt bad that it happened. I told him that I appreciated the refund and understood that mistakes happen on occasion. We also discussed the talk in the shop of people who may be interested in purchasing the car. He said that there was no malicious intent, which I believe, and mentioned that he had previously expressed that if employees purchasing customer vehicles ever became a problem, that he would put a stop to it.We disagreed about what was expressed about the feasibility of driving the vehicle from the shop. As this was a conversation, there is no documentation, but Jon feels that he advised us not to drive the vehicle at all. I interpreted his comments as a recommendation to not drive the car more than necessary, or to continue using it regularly, but that the car was able to be driven back to our house, where we would attempt to sell or donate it. Jon even advised that we could try a product called ?Mend Tight? in the hopes that it may help patch over the damage and make the car drivable for longer, though it would only cover the problem, not repair it. Without documentation, I cannot demonstrate what was said, but I feel that my wife and I would not have attempted to drive the car if either of us were given any indication that it was not able to driven for the 10 miles or so that we would need to get home.

Response from Roy’s Auto Repair and Tire
This vehicle had a bad head gasket problem. We did not promise that it would make it home. I have since talked with [Removed member name] and refunded his money in full because the drain plug in the radiator wasn't tight. When we had it at the shop it wasn't leaking from the drain plug, so I took [Removed member name] word and sent him a check. He said he appreciated it and accepted my apology. We take care of our customers when given a chance. I don't feel like [Removed member name] gave me a chance to fix his problem before he wrote a bunch of things I don't agree with on his review. We would never offer to buy someone's car unless they say there wanting to get rid of it. I hope that [Removed member name] corrects the original review because some of the things he said do not reflect how our company is. Look at all the reviews we have over the years. I've ran this company since 2007 and we appreciate our customers and treat them with respect.

The service was amazing. What I liked is they charged only for the time that they spent. It took them less than an hour so they only charged me for however long that was and there was no cost to diagnose. I have been to other places and they will charge you $250 to figure out what they need to do. They did it in less than an hour and they charge me for less than an hour. I will go back to them any day.

To start I hate mechanics. I always feel like they are trying to cheat me. Im not from STL so I went to rays b/c of angles list. Ray and his staff changed they way I look at mechanics. They went above and beyond to help me and were amazing. The work they did was top notch, the price was better than other quotes I got (300+ cheaper than crappy ELCO mechanics). What touched me the most was they found issues ELCO had done to my car and went above and beyond to get those fixed. Loved these guys... Will be my go to for all repairs in future. Well done rays.

They gave an estimate of about $900 to replace the compressor. Then they asked me if I wanted to spend an extra $300 since they were in there to replace the heater core because, if the heater core were to go bad later, it would be almost as expensive for them to get into it to replace that. I was taken aback since I've never heard that before, and it was an old car, but, since I needed it back quickly, I went ahead and had it done. When I asked their advice as to whether it should be done they only shrugged their shoulders and said there was no way to know for sure and it was up to me. When I picked the car up, there was a lot of noise coming from under the dashboard. I brought it back the next day and they called to say they found the insulation in that area wasn't put back properly and they fixed it. When I picked the car up, there was an additional charge for doing that work. I complained it should have been done properly in the first place but it took that to have it removed. This is the second instance where I questioned a service charge and they were quick to remove the charge which makes me suspicious as to why it was there in the first place.

A/C leak check was quoted at $49.95. They found leaks and I elected not to do the repair. Went to pick up and pay and was told it would be $87. They did drop the price back down to $49.95 and I left. When I got home my car was overheating. Upon further inspection I found that the petcock valve on the radiator had been broken off. I suspect that it didn't break by itself. You make the call.

I was willing to wait for the work to be completed but Scott/Steve?? insisted on bringing me home & his wife would bring me back to get my car. Scott went to great length to explain a problem AND to keep the price down. When he couldn't reach me via my phone, he drove back to my home to explain the brake problem & to get my permission to do the work. Only reason a "B" is given for price & quality is due to lack of comparisons. So far, all is well. Having worked in customer service, I have extremely high standards & ROY"S deserves my A.!

They were going to service my daughter's car and inspect for tag renewal. They quickly let us know that the work to be done was going to be more than the car was worth. They serviced the car in order for us to get it home. We dealt with Roy directly and he was no-nonsense. He also gave us an Angie's List discount. I will definitely recommend Roy's to anyone.
