LawnBros, Inc.

The owner, David, showed up on 8/4/14 to walk the property and quoted me the project cost verbally. While discussing the yard project, he informed me of other issues with the yard and talked me into letting LAWNBROS, Inc. replace some of our bed borders with stone and bury some drainage tubing off of our gutter downspouts. Even when I stated that we could do those projects ourselves, David told me that it should only be done "professionally" and he guaranteed his work. After getting numerous verbal estimates of the costs of each element of the project I gave him a $1000 check to have them start that day with the expectation that it would be completed by 8/6 (with the exception of some of the bed border work). We even had a neighbor who shared a bed with us agree to pay for him to clean and mulch her side of the shared bed. On 8/5 no one one showed up until 11:00 and I came home from an errand to find a cut Comcast line. David admitted to have cut it and said he would fix it. He asked for and I paid another $1000 to put 50% down on the project and help cover the cost of the materials that were on order (rock border & mulch). On 8/6 no one showed up to fix the cable line until after 12 and even afterward I had to call Comcast to re-lay our line. While investigating the cable line damage, we noticed that LAWNBROS, Inc. was not pulling the weeds out of our beds and was just covering them up with a weed barrier fabric. Plus, the bigger weeds that they couldn't directly cover were being cut down to their base, not dug out. We tried to bring this issue up but no one was on site. On 8/7 no one showed up until after 10:30 and stayed for a total of 2 hours. That evening my neighbor approached me and mentioned that she witnessed the poor quality of work being done. On 8/8 at 9:30 am, David came to the door requesting permission to have mulch delivered and dropped in our driveway. I confronted him on the quality of his work and why the project had not been completed. He promised it would be finished that day and agreed that the work had been done badly and would correct it. This included correcting the weed removal in the beds. David and 3 other people worked until 5 that day, then we never saw David again. The job wasn't even close to completed, more mulch was needed, and they had torn up the yard in their attempt to bury drainage tubes. On 8/9, 8/12, & 8/19 the manager showed up and attempted to "fix" the issues left behind. This included throwing seed in the ruts and holes they left throughout our side yard, adding mulch into beds that were not prepped correctly, and not fixing the rock borders that were laying out of position, crooked, and not level. On 8/19 the manager knocked on the door and asked for another $2600 but provided no invoice stating that David was going to send one. We refused to pay. Afterward, we never received an invoice, never received repair of our yard, and ended up terminating our agreement with them on 9/3 by sending a $500 check to pay for materials (which we know we overpaid for but do not want them anywhere near our house again!) LAWNBROS, Inc. is basically a young guy, just out school, who has hired a bunch of his friends to do this work for him. They are not a professional company. The owner, David, clearly does not know how to run a professional business and has no communication skills. The quality of work is very poor and we are going to spend most of the fall correcting the work they performed. All the drainage tubes need to be re-dug and buried deeper, our side yard now has to be re-graded and seeded for grass, and the rock border has to be completely redone. This won't even correct the issues with the weeds already growing through the landscaping fabric. What a headache! Wish we had never received the flyer in the mail from LAWNBROS, Inc.!!!
