HEDBERG LANDSCAPE SUPPLIES

We purchased the plants about a month prior and all three were not doing well. The leaves had suddenly turned black and they seemed to be dying. There were also some aphis-like insects on the back of the leaves. We dug them up and took them back to the store. They told us we were either UNDER watering them or OVER watering them, but didn't know which and they didn't think the insects were a factor. I am an experienced gardener and can grow just about anything and these were the only plants in my yard with problems. They suggested we cut them back and see if they came back next year. I told them I wanted them replaced but they said whatever happened to them wasn't their fault, it was something I had done and they would have to charge a 20% restocking fee and then I would have to pay for new plants if I wanted them. We have been long-time customers of this merchant and we buy most of our pond supplies from them. I asked if she would run this by her supervisor and she reluctantly went back into the store. After some time she came back out and told us she could not take them back since it was obviously something we had done. She still could not tell me what I could have done differently and whether I should have watered them more or less. I was frustrated that I couldn't get better information and told her so. She stormed back into the store leaving us out in the parking lot with 3 dead plants. I have NEVER heard of a reputable nursery not taking back a plant that dies during the current season and sometimes into the next season and have never been treated so rudely a store employee. She said their return policy is right on the receipt but I still don't understand how you can restock a dead plant and then charge for a replacement. We have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars at this store over the years, but they have lost me as a customer and I will never buy another thing from them. I will take my business to someone who backs up their product.
