Emily is a gem. She is a talented business woman with excellent design, human resource and management skills. She exceeded my expectations. She was able to create a kitchen layout, select materials and provide a plan that worked with what I had while bringing in the new and allowing for future change. The plan was a roadmap that allowed me to finally move forward. For me, this plan was the game changer that got me moving again. I would definitely work with Emily on future projects.

I am a busy working professional and she meshed really well with my personality. It saved me a lot of time wandering around furniture stores during my limited free time. I want to make the money and then make good choices in a time efficient way.
Description of Work: We just moved into a new home and my old pieces were not working. Emily offered many options depending on my likes and dislikes. We are not done, but I got a couple of my top priorites completed and a plan.

Emily is great to work with. I was planning to remodel my bathroom, and I don't have a good feel for color combinations and finishes. Emily selected tile and paint colors and recommended fixtures. She had a contractor provide an estimate for the project. I'm in the midst of completing the project now. I'm very happy with the help Emily provided.

My wife and I had a remodeling job thrust upon us the week before Thanksgiving when a water connection burst in our kitchen and ruined some of the cabinets. As we considered our options for our master bath, kitchen and basement remodel, we decided to use an interior designer to help us make choices that would make our house go from "nice" to "wow". I looked up many interior designers online and liked Emily's portfolio. She responded to our inquiry very quickly and set up meetings at our house, and "shopping" trips at tile stores. We have been very impressed with her energy, professionalism and quick analysis of our style. When we bought our house 11 years ago we took out almost all of the first level flooring (carpet, tile and kitchen linoleum) and installed Brazilian cherry hardwood flooring. We love the warmth and look of the Brazilian cherry, but were never really satisfied with how sat against the honey-oak cabinets in the kitchen. As a result of this "sudden remodeling job" we decided to keep the flooring and design the kitchen around that as our primary element. Emily walked us through color options to provide contrast to the floor and help it become more of a showpiece. We're very excited to show of our new kitchen with color coordinated cabinets, tile backsplash, quartz countertops and new light fixtures when it's completed. Emily also helped us redesign a basement bar, choose carpet color for the basement, and new tile/theme for a master bathroom. The entire experience with Emily has been wonderful. It's easily the best money we've spent on this entire project.

It was time to update the living room after over a decade. Emily provided a workable floor plan for a room with an unusual configuration. She worked with me to narrow down color choices that I love and that work well for the space. She went furniture shopping with me. I purchased a sofa, accent chair, and recliner chair within my budget. She paid great attention to detail and to the size of the furniture. The best thing was that she co-ordinated the fabrics in a way that really works. I would have been lost with so many choices, but with my input, she helped me make choices that make the room have the exact look I wanted. It took less than three hours with her friendly, helpful advice. We also went carpet shopping together at a wholesalers. There were too many choices, but she had some ideas and we kept narrowing down to make good use of our time. Emily co-ordinated the installation with painting and furniture delivery times. I am very pleased that the room looks modern and functions well. it has a professional put-together look. Classy, yet comfortable and inviting. Emily also helped me decide on an updated color for the master bath. It's a bright lime green, which I had doubts about at first, but now love. It's cheerful and fresh. I would have gone too dull. Emily is prompt and personable. She has a great eye for color and details. I really felt like we worked together to get the look I wanted. I feel she is very affordable and got me a good discount on carpeting. She was also very conscious of the budget I needed to work with. I am currently working with her to get some other projects done. If you want a plan and not a mish-mash, I really suggest you go with Emily Korf. Her knowledge and skills saved me time and money by getting exactly what I wanted.

Both Emily and the contractor(forgot name, sorry) were very professional and at the same time, very personable! The contractor showed up on time, came in and installed in a timely fashion and didn't leave a mess. He also was very friendly with our 16 month old who would say "hi - bye" every time he walked in/out of the house. I would say that if ever the need came up again for their services, we are 100% sure we would hire them again! I only gave a 'C' rating on price, because I think closets being redone, no matter whom...is usually more then I would spend as a male for work done. ; ) With that said, just researching online...someone else probably would have charged more then what should be charged then this Company did and even if tried to do myself, the time and frustration would be more in 'expense' then what was the cost for our supplies/work.
Description of Work: She came out and met us to inquire of what we wanted and our budget to make more room in our closets, which were the usual standard closet from a home built from 50's-80's. One long pole across, with one shelf on top. She then took specs and gave us estimates of price range. We received in a very timely manner the price of what we wanted done. We hired her for the remodel of the closets and she ordered the supplies and set up the time for the contractor to come out and install them.

Emily was very prompt and easy to work with, and she made some great suggestions for the hardware, as I wasn't 100% sure of what setup would have worked best with my closet space (my townhome is fairly old, built in the 1970's - so the closets are wide, but not very deep). The actual installation took about a month longer than initially estimated, but that was because I asked the installation to be postponed so I could get the interior of the closets and the rooms they were in painted. The hardware for the closet system installation was delivered well in advance, and the actual installation took less than three hours. Overall, I'm very pleased, and I'll probably be calling Emily back this coming spring to schedule an installation for the other half of the closet. The materials seem sturdy, and the final price was still less than what I would've paid if I had had a specialty closet vendor do the work.
Description of Work: Installed shelving and clothes-hanging hardware in the closet spaces in my spare room/office and on one side of my master bedroom.

Emily came out to view the closet and the design options. She then sent us her design which we thought was very basic and offered nothing in the way of creativity. It was basically the design we had given her. We were hoping for some creativity to allow us a better use of our space. We did not feel we were getting any value out of her service as we could put the design we came up with on our own in the closet for less than half of what it would have cost if we used Elements and Principles, even after the Angie's List discount. Over all, I would say she made an effort, but from the beginning, it seemed that this was too small of a project and she felt she didn't want to spend a lot of time on it. For us, this project did not go very well since we did not end up getting a satisfactory ending. But, I think that if it were a larger project she may have done better.

I received a call from the husband client shortly after buying the Big Deal. He said they were moving and downsizing and wanted to meet in October. We picked a date in October. In September the wife client called me and said she wanted to meet sooner. The clients were living in transitional housing after having sold one house to purchase another. The wife client and I met at the new home to look at the closet. I was unable to take an inventory of clothing and other items accurately, due to their living situation, like I normally would. The wife client and I tossed around a few ideas when we met. We both agreed it was a challenging space because it is a reach in closet with 2 sets of bifold doors and a support column in the middle. This kind of closet is very limiting design wise. Within a few days I had the closet designed. I contacted them to set a time to review the following week. The week we were set to review my husband, daughter and I all came down with a horrible virus. I told the wife client that due to no child care and being ill I'd have to reschedule, this was on a Tuesday. I told her I'd hoped to be feeling better by Friday and possibly we could meet then. Come Friday, we were all still very ill. At that time the husband client called me and expressed his displeasure and said it sounded like it was too small of a job and that I didn't make it a priority. I promptly called him back, very audibly sick sounding, and explained the situation. I asked if I could e-mail the design, which is not something I normally do, just so they could review it because I did feel bad about having to cancel due to illness. After e-mailing them the design they said they'd move ahead with it. They then were out of town for a few weeks and the wife client called me upon returning and wanted to meet and review. This meeting just took place about two weeks ago. I thought the meeting went just fine, we laughed, we chatted, she asked if we were all healthy again and even expressed "I remember those days with sick kids!" We agreed I'd have to come back to verify measurements because the sheetrock was being replaced and she was going to call me when that had been done. That was the last exchange I had with the clients. I am dumbfounded by this report as I've never even met the husband client in person and the wife client has been lovely, agreeable and understanding to work with. I'm not entirely sure how to refute something I thought had been going well.

Emily was great! She included our son in the process, asking enough questions to get an understanding of his interests, likes and needs. She was able to be flexible as we adjusted our time table remaining close to the originally proposed budget. Once we decided on a final plan, Emily was supportive in ensuring that the project was fully completed to our satisfaction. The final reconfiguration of this awkward space was remarkable.

Emily did a terrific job listening to us and coming up with a wonderful design. She gave us time to prepare the space. The installation was fast and everything was left completely cleaned up. This comment is for the Angie's list Deal folks: I was surprised at the overall price of the finished work. However, since I'd bought the deal, I felt locked in. I probably should have gotten several estimates. While this provider did a great job, I am leery of future deals from Angie's List.

The transaction was poor. When I purchased the Big Deal from Elements and Principles, I was told that I would be contatced within 48 hours, but it took over one week. During the telepone conversation, I explained to Emily Kork, that it was a small project consisting of a foyer closet and a laundry closet. When Emily came to our house, I asked her if I could also get a price on an hanger and shelf over the washer and dryer, explaining that it was only a thought. Emily was going to come back within one week to show us the plans, but I had to call her and ask when she was coming, her reply was that she was going to call me. When she came, she gave me a total price with no individual pricing per closet. I had had otheers here before on other closets and they always gave me a breakdown per closet, and per type of wood. Emily then sent me an email with the individual prices, which stated "if we group the closets together it will be less because every time I send my installer there I have to pay him, and every parts delivery has to be paid for too. If I send him once and do one delivery it keeps the cost down. To do all three areas taking out 4 shelves is $1539 minus your $500 = $1039. To do just the entry closet and laundry room closet would be $1377 minus $500 = $877. If you did all three closets at separate times your discounted price would be: Laundry Closet $590; Laundry Room $442; and Entry $447." My choice was not to do the laudry room because her white sample did not match the whit on the existing cabinets, and would look horrible with twoi different colors. Therefore, I just wanted to do the laundry closet and entry closet, on one install. I pointed out to Emily that if you do the math on the laundry closet and entry closet it is $1037 ($590 + $447), however Emily stated a price of $1377, which would be an overcharge of $340. I brought thius to her attention and she stopped communicating with me and I told Emily that I would be taking it to Angie's List. I would not recommend Elements and Principles; poor communication, poor service, over priced and lack of professionalism. I have requested a full refund from Angie's List.

[member name removed] closets were never done because he did not purchase. He contacted me through the Angie's List message center on July 21st, I responded to his e-mail July 22nd and was waiting to hear back. (I have copies of this exchange) He called me at 5:58pm on July 24th and left me a message saying he had not heard from me. I returned his call at 6:06pm on July 24th, far less than the week plus he claims he waited. (I have phone records of this as well) I apologized to him for not hearing from me and explained I sent an e-mail to him, he later admitted he did not check his Angie's List account to check e-mails. We set an appt for Tuesday July 30th at 1pm. [member name removed] did explain that they were small closets but I explained that everyones opinion of a "small closet" was different and that I'd be happy to look at them! After our appt on the 30th, I told him it'd take about a week for me to get the designs done and the pricing from my manufacturer back and that I would call him when I had it back. He is correct in that he called me and it did take more than a week which I apologized for. We were in touch with each other 1 week and 2 days later on Aug 8th. I explained to [member name removed] that bundling the closets together would save him more money because of installation and delivery fees. He asked for broken down pricing which I sent him within 24 hours. The three closets with discount were $1039, two closets with discount were $877, the discounted prices per separated closet were $590 and $447. The two individual prices cost more together because of separated installation fees and delivery fees which I explained to him. I also explained to him that it is inaccurate to add them together as the Big Deal was $500 off one JOB, meaning he would have to choose which of his three closets he wanted the $500 off of if he chose to separate them. [member name removed] is alleging I stopped communicating with him after our "math exchange" e-mails which is untrue. He sent his last e-mail to me at 10:55pm on Aug 20th. I did not respond that night because, as I explained to him, I dealt with my fussy baby then went to bed! He e-mailed me at 8:20am on Aug 21st upset that he had not heard from me between the hours of 11pm and 8am. At that point I called Angie's List myself and asked them to refund his money as doing business together was clearly not going to work.

I had begun work on remodeling the kitchen and suddenly realized that I was over my head. I had no idea about color scheme, tile, counter tops, fixtures and appliances. Emily provided paint, tile and color samples, consultation, advocacy when needed (if things were not completed properly or in a timely manner) and referrals for quality materials. She is professional, thoughtful and a genuinely nice person. Love working with her and I love the finished kitchen and bath! I will definitely contact her again for design and remodeling assistance. Top notch!
Description of Work: Remodeled kitchen and bath. Emily came over at the beginning and consulted with me about what I liked and did not like to help me define my "style". She really listened and then returned with samples and options. She is easy to work with, communicates well and has a wonderful design sense.

Emily was great. She found a solution to moving things around in a bathroom remodel that nobody else thought of and it solved the issue. Overall worked with us great as a designer for our main bathroom remodel and then did the design and install on a closet organizing system. We wanted our bathroom remodel to fit into the fact our house is 1969, and she blended it well so it fit the period.

The owner came to my house and met with me to discuss my decorating needs. I was very unclear about exactly what I wanted and we decided she would proposal a palette that I could use as I moved forward and decorated four rooms. She did a great job of picking fabrics and colors. She was very prepared. She didn't make me feel like my house was too plain for her to work with me. I misunderstood an estimate on window treatments she had sent as an FYI and embarassed myself making a big deal out of it and she was very kind about it. Her services are reasonable, she is both professional and approachable and I would use her again. She also figured out ways to reorganize my oddly shaped living room, ways I hadn't considered and she gave me many options. I think she's very creative and also seems to really care.
Description of Work: Proposed floor plan rearrangement for living room. Proposed coordinated color palate choices for four rooms to be redecorated at different times in the future. She appealed to me in part because her website included specific jobs and dollar amounts, which seemed straightforward and practical.

We couldn't be happier with the help Emily has given us. She is personable and easy to work with. She has been to the house 3 or 4 times when we have questions or want to get her opinion on something we have done. She always gets back to us in a timely manner. We were really lost when it came to ideas about how to arrange the kitchen and which colors to use. Her plan was so unique that we had not even thought of that arrangement, yet we love it. The flow works well, and it is an excellent use of the small space we have.
Description of Work: We wanted someone to help us design a remodel for our kitchen, but we wanted to do the work. She came up with creative ideas to update a 1980s kitchen. She drew up complete and detailed plans, from the cabinet arrangement to the paint on the walls and cabinets. She helped us choose the knobs, handles, lights, etc. and even went with me to help select the granite. Then, she arranged to have it installed. We are not finished with the project yet, but we are thrilled with the way it is turning out.
