During the bid process, we informed him that we wanted him to install Delta FL along with the laminate and laminate underlayment. We also inquired whether he wanted the doors installed prior to the installation of the floor, which he informed us that it was optional and he could work without it. With this information, we decided and communicated to him that the doors(and trim) would be installed after the flooring. He also informed us that he warranted his work, which is the prime reason we elected to go with him. I asked for it in writing along with the updated pricing invoice prior to his start date but did not receive prior to his start date. Because he came across as a honest and trustfull man, I trusted him and believed that he would provide it to us within the next few days, which he never did. It took him approximately 3 days to install the flooring, working a few hours each day and arriving later than what he had communicated to me each day. He worked Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. He had another project at a different home scheduled for Wednesday. Day 1: He had installation questions about the Delta FL, which I was unprepared because I thought that was his responsibility and he should have done that prior to his arrival/start of work. So I printed out the installation instruction and we reviewed them together. After he installed one small section of the Delta FL, he informed us that the Delta FL was causing a noise when you stepped on it and it touched the cement floor. So he was willing to go to Home Depot to purchase the landscape fabric that was listed as "optional" in the Delta FL instructions. While he was at Home Depot, I continued to read the instructions and realized that the installation also required spray foam for the edges where the Delta FL set against the studs. I called Todd and he was kind to pick up that product as well for us. Upon his return from HD, we continued reviewing the installation process, ensuring that he understood that my expectations were that he follow the instructions recommended by Delta Fl. Day 2 He continued with the installation, finishing the area by the furnace and bathroom door, which are the only two areas that needed the transition pieces. The landscape fabric did eliminate that noise. Day 3 He continued with the installation, finishing the area by the bedroom. On his last day, he informed me that the transition pieces that we had was not going to work, which I wish he would have told me before. That way, I could have gone to get it and had it available for him on Day 3. He would charge us $150 to install that piece at a future date. He verbally revised the bill to add the additional work required to lay the landscape fabric and install the spray foam, which we agreed and believed it was a fair revision. We also agreed that I would call him once we got the transition piece. We paid him in full. On April 12th (after the doors were installed), I realized that the transition piece for the bathroom door was not going to lay under the door. The door right next to it (on the same wall and about 2 feet away) would have the transition piece under the stairway. Because the doors were right next to each other, it was obvious there was a mistake. Basically, he underestimated the length of the boards, cutting it too short (about 3 inches too short). So if you stand on one side of the door, close it, you can see about 3 inches of the vinyl flooring that is in the restroom (only on that restroom door). When you move to the other door, stand on the same side, close it, you do not see the flooring that is on that other side of the door (and the transition piece lays directly under the door). All this was communicated to Todd and he agreed to come by and fix it at his cost. So that he would only have to make one trip (instead of two), we agreed that I would call him once I had the correct transition piece. On May 10th, we finally got the transition piece, called Todd and he agreed to fix the flooring on May 14th. The day came and went and he never showed up. After multiple messages that I left on his phone (and text messages), he rescheduled for May 15th, between 1 and 2 p.m. On May 15th, he rescheduled for May 18th. May 18th came and Todd cancelled due to a family emergency. He committed to calling me back once he returned into the cities and asked us to be patient with him, which we did. On May 27th, I contacted him but no response. On May 29th, I contacted him again and was finally able to connect with him via phone. He scheduled for Wednesday, June 1st at 9 a.m. Well, June 1st came and went and Todd did not show up nor did he call me. I've made multiple attempts to connect with him (left messages, sent him text messages) but to no avail. Overall, he has scheduled this four times. I have filed a complaint with the Conflict Resolution Center and will be moving forward with small claims court.
