Macy's follow-up, communications, and level of customer service was very poor, although carpet installation and final result were OK (except for a broken picture knocked off a wall in an uncarpeted hallway). On the customer service side, we placed this fairly big carpet order in July, 2008 with a $3,700 deposit and were told it would arrive in early September with installation shortly thereafter. We then heard absolutely nothing from Macy's until I called to complain in late September. Only then were we told that our order had not yet even been shipped from the factory for reasons that were never fully explained. However, after further complaints and pointing out that Macy's had been sitting on our large down payment for all of this time and threatening to cancel the order, the carpet was somehow able to be shipped that same week. The contractors handling the installation came within the next week and did a decent job with good results, except for breaking a picture hanging in an uncarpeted hallway (cost was adjusted off the final price). But then when I sent in my final payment by check, Macy's advised that they could not authorize it without further information from me, even though it was drawn on exactly the same account as my larger down payment that they had cashed with no problem. First they needed my driver's license number, and then my birthdate, and then they told me my check could still not be authorized and I had to do this myself by calling their authorization center or my bank. After I complained about the fact that this problem was of their making and that THEY should be contacting ME to resolve it, I was suddenly advised that the problem had mysteriously been taken care of, again with absolutely no explanation offered. Bottom line is that they installed a good product, but made the rest of the process far too time-consuming and difficult. They did grant a $500 credit due to the delay in receiving the carpet, but since their price was higher than normal to start with, this only made the overall cost about average and still not worth the hassles.
Description of Work: Tear up and replaced all carpeting on main level and stairs: living room, dining room, master bedroom and closet, and 2 flights of stairs.

They service was excellent. Doug Gordh waited on us and he was really good. Anything you wanted to know about furniture, he could tell you. The delivery service was also very good.

We're very pleased with the blinds from Marshall Fields. The designer helped us select just the right thickness for sun blocking. The measurement and installation were done professionally. The blinds are beautiful.
