"Dear Homeowner We want apologies again about the design promotion. This deal was written by Angieslist in an attempt to get us to buy advertising from them. We tried early on to reach out to the customers that purchased this deal and get them a refund for this promotion. We did not receive any compensation from this and were told that Angieslist would refund back the money they took. If you have any problems getting your money back from Angieslist please let me know and I will assist you in getting your refund back from them. Please call MN Remodeling Solutions 763.428.4888"

All I can say is this was a catastrophe from the start.
The contractors were supposed to start work on Thursday. However, even though I had taken the time off in the afternoon to be there to let them in, they just popped by quickly to measure up how much material they needed. No big deal I thought. However, when they came by on Friday they then didn't get everything done. This meant they had to schedule a third day to finish the job even though I was initially told they would be done on Friday. On Friday I was also told that I would have to move furniture in my bedrooms which had never been mentioned to me initially.
OK, I can deal with that, but I never got a call back to schedule another day. Then the following Thursday I get a call at about 9:00 AM saying they are now standing in front of my house and asking how they could get in. I told them that I was at work and was not going to be able to pop by the house and that I would need someone to contact me to schedule when they would come by again. I then tried to call the office number a number of times but never got a call back. The contractors then came back again the next day and luckily my sister was able to open the doors for them.
When they were done for the day, I was told that they were not be able to do some of the work for various reasons (all seemed to be valid) and I was fine with that. However, I was not fine with the state that they had left my house. Only two of the almost 20 access points were actually closed back up and the rest were simply left open for blown insulation to fall out of.
I tried to contact someone about the state of my house and about what the bill would look like since they didn't finish most of the work. Once again, I had no luck in contacting anyone. I was then emailed a bill a few days later for nearly the full amount of the original quote with a very small amount deducted and charged for the moving of the furniture. I then tried again repeatedly to reach anyone at the office to no avail.
Finally, I found Brandon's number on Angie's List and tried to call him. Even though I had to leave a message, he did call back and went through my concerns. He said he would come out and have a look at everything. Brandon came out and was courteous and punctual. He had a look at all of the work and took some measurements. However, I do feel that most of this exercise was for nothing as the measurements didn't come into play in the final cost of what I paid for the job. It did also mean that I took time out of my day to deal with errors in a job that his company had made. In the end Brandon and I agreed that my initial estimate of about 20% of the job being done was correct (like I said all of the measurements weren't consulted again).
I was then sent another incorrect bill and emailed Brandon to agree to pay the $800 and that was that.
All in all an awful experience; and my house still looks like I took a hammer to most of the walls and ceiling which I will patch up myself. Brandon was very punctual and professional and the only reason I am not giving all Fs in my grading (as he also brought down the cost after he had stopped by). I would however never use this company again for anything. I don't care how little it costs. No communication and very shoddy work. I understand that they were overwhelmed because they had offered a Living Social voucher (which, in my opinion, also was never factored into my cost) but the job still needs to be done to the same standard otherwise you cannot offer such a voucher.
Response from Minnesota Remodeling Solutions
"I wanted to respond to [member name removed] complaint. I meet with [member name removed] to take a look at his project and address his concerns and issues. We discussed what the problems were, went through the original estimate and clarified the invoice. We agreed upon a price for the work performed, we shook hands and [member name removed] seemed satisfied with the outcome. It is very frustrating and disappointing that the customer feels the need to bash a company’s reputation after we tried very hard to correct any problems that may have occurred. This is how the project laid out according to Minnesota Remodeling Solutions. [member name removed] purchased a living social voucher for attic insulation. The voucher was for blown in attic insulation up to 300 sqft to an R49. We had our General Manager meet with [member name removed] and look at the details of his project. It was explained to the customer what the voucher covered, which was also listed on voucher. We presented a proposal to [member name removed] for additional services, and he agreed and gave us a down payment. Because of the complexity of the project and the unknown factors involved, our sub contractor came the first scheduled time to cut the access holes and determine what was need to complete the project. It was very clear with [member name removed], our general manager and installers that [member name removed] was going to repair all the holes in the ceiling ( floor joists ) and repair the access holes in the walls. We scheduled with [member name removed] for the following day. We started the project. We found the certain areas of the house could not be insulated so the installers did not do the work there. We needed to come back another day to finish the project. We asked [member name removed] to move some furniture so that our installers could reach certain areas of the ceiling. The following week, the installers called [member name removed] the day before we were scheduled to come back and finish. We arrived to find that [member name removed] did not move any of the furniture, so we had to once again schedule. We told [member name removed] we could move the furniture when we come back, but there would be a charge for that service. He stated he was fine with that. We then scheduled for the following week. [member name removed] was not home. He left a key for us to access the property and finish. We did not meet his sister at the jobsite. When then completed the project. Certain items that were proposed to [member name removed] were unknown, because they were hidden behind walls and the ceiling. When we started the work in those areas we realized that he did not need insulation, and the holes were necessary to determine this, which was to be repaired by [member name removed]. Originally [member name removed] was sent a wrong invoice. This was a misunderstanding and was corrected on my visit. [member name removed] did not want to pay for moving furniture as he agreed to. Even though I paid for this service, I took it off of the invoice. After we agreed on the price for services and [member name removed] was sent a new invoice and he wanted to still dispute the bill. So again, to make him happy we corrected this amount. [member name removed] did not take into account the inconvenience that we had to even complete his project. It seems that the customer had intentions of complaining from the beginning in an attempt to get something for nothing. To complain after all we did to help [member name removed] is unjustified. For a true representation of our company and the service we provide, please visit Living Social to see the customer feedback. Thank You Brandon MN Remodeling Solutions Owner"

I actually bought a deal through a different site, and it was for 300sf of blown in attic insulation for $50. I used it for the space above our garage since I am trying to insulate it better for a more comfortable workspace.
After buying the deal it took a bit of time to connect with the company to schedule a date of service, but I feel they made a fair effort of it. The site showed they had over 1000 sales, and I am sure 3000 phone calls from it. It took a total of three calls, the first call I made was returned the next business day but I missed the call. I called back about 5 minutes later and got to the same recorded message to leave a message and it would be returned the next business day. It was not, however it was near the new year holiday weekend. About 3 business days later I called again, left another message, and this one was once again returned the next business day as promised. So overall, there were a few complications, which were manly due to the mass of callers after an internet deal, but when I did speak to someone to schedule an appointment, she was very friendly and I was happy to hear my appointment would only be about 2-3 weeks out. Responsiveness: B
Punctuality: B
My original appointment had to be rescheduled due to weather, I was called and a voicemail was left that they could not come the day I had scheduled, but would work with me to still get my appointment  in that same week. We went back and forth a bit about availability with my work schedule and they said they would be happy to come on Sat. since it was my only day of availability that week. My appointment was for 2:00pm but they did not arrive until about 3:30pm, however I did receive a phone call and explanation that they were running behind at their previous job. Professionalism: A
As for the work performed, they completed the job quickly, were very friendly, and the gentleman that came into the house took his boots off so my carpet would stay clean. One of the workers also gave me a bit of advice on how to further continue my project of warming my garage area to work in.
Overall I am happy with the work performed, and would consider using Minnesota Remodeling Solutions again.

A few weeks later he sent a picture of our house with a new entryway, and different color siding, but it looked like something I could have made in photoshop myself. I asked him to redo it with the original color of siding as I had said that we would NOT be replacing the siding. Although he said he'd fix it and send it back, I never heard back. I was unimpressed with the quality of work done even though it only cost me $49. If it had gone better, I would have been ready to spend more!

It didn't go very well. The insurance company gave a list of stuff they agreed to. Minnesota Remodeling Solutions came and did work but they didn't do anything on the list but they still charged. I had a hard time dealing with them because they wouldn't return my calls. I would recommend getting everything in writing.

It was kind of strange.  There were a few things that we weren’t aware of when we were talking to the person that was handling the remodeling.  One of them was the fact that when we selected the floor they did not explain to us was that the flooring in the bathroom then would not meet the floor in the hall so there were the steps.  If we had known that we would have made other arrangements with them so that the floor would have been even.  We also had problems with when their people were coming.  To get work done, they would come they would do something for example when they did the dry wall and stuff and then they would leave a plan and give no instructions as to what we were supposed to do.  So one day we did not know what to do so we turned it off before we went to bed and it turned out that we should have left it on.  We thought that there were a lot of communication steps that were missing with the contractor.  We ended up too that we had to purchase some of the things on our own so I think that without looking it up, it would have been in the range of $5000 to $6000 of things that we paid them.  We would have people arrive on a Saturday to install things like the toilet.  It was really a strange way to do business.

"This was emailed to us from the homeowners in 2011. From our understanding the customer had a good experience with our company. 2 years later there review of our services has completly changed. It is hard for us to understand this poor review, when we recieved the following communication from the customer. Hello, We are very pleased with our experience with your firm. You did quality work on our remodel. We were impressed from our first to last meetings. You listened carefully to what we wanted. You set realistic deadlines (for example, when you would be working on the bid and when the bid would be completed). You met the deadline and gave us a detailed explanation of the bid. We were pleased with our meetings with knowledgeable employers of Focus Point and The Cabinet Store to help us select tile, grout, vanity, sink, counter top and paint colors. This was very helpful for us. The remodel went well. We were pleased that we could call either Dave, Rob or you with any questions or concerns, which were either addressed right away or if there was no immediate answer available, one of you would get back to us. We were always treated with respect and a willingness to help us. Communications were very good. It meant a lot to us. All of the subcontractors were very easy to work with. They were very skillful and knowledgeable. They took time to explain what they were doing and why. They also cleaned up the mess after their work was completed. We especially appreciate that they were carefully working around the bathtub/shower surround that we had previously installed. We were very happy with the end result. We will call you when we are ready for our next project. Thanks again - Have a great day! Please contact me to discuss your issues and concerns. The guy came out to look at the work and said they would get the plans and quotes out a few days later. The following week I had received no information from them so I called and got a hold of him. He said the he would get us the plans and the quote in the next day or two. A week later I was still waiting on the plans. I called the office and left  many messages. It's been three weeks and I still have not received the plans.

We discussed the work to be done on Thursday 10/3.  The estimator took notes and pictures of the work to be done in order to provide an estimate.  The estimate was to be separated into two parts with a quote on the more basic items to be provided by Monday 10/7 and the computer design options to be provided by the end of the next week.  It has now been over a week and we have not heard anything.  An unresponsive contractor might not be too unusual, but in this case we paid $55 up front for computer generated design options that have not been provided. Had the company followed through on what the Project Manager promised, our professionalism rating would have remained high. Since it has been over five business days, the rating went from A to F. Having a follow up call would have kept them favorable in our minds. Even though the Big Deal was just $55, we have a lot of work to be done in our new "old" home and will now move forward with other contractors.

They were very good! They were very responsive and came exactly when they said they would. The cost even came in less than what was quoted and they did what they said they would do. I had some of the materials and they had to buy some additional ones. They did a great job with organizing and finding out what in addition they may need to get. They did a great job and I was very happy with the work.

Overall, I was not satisfied and they did not do good work. They came to our house after the storm. They put the tarp on the roof as a temporary fix. However, the tarp fell off shortly after, so we decided to get another company for the actual roof repair. I had signed a contract with them and had to work to get out of it.

"We were contracted by the homeowner to do the repairs to his home that he incurred from the May 2011 tornado. As a service we tarped his house to prevent any further damage. During the insurance negation process the homeowner decided to hire another contractor to complete the needed repairs. Normally tarping is part of the service that we offer to our homeowners but seeing that he opted to go with another contractor we charged him a small tarping fee which the homeowner finally agreed to pay after 6 months."

They were prompt. There were a few repairs they did after the installation. One of the windows needed a new seal, but they were not able to come up with one. It may have been an issue with the manufacturer, I’m not quite sure. Other than that, everything turned out very well.

I did not spend anything on that because it was an airport noise abatement control thing and Max paid $2600 for the door. I will not be using them again as they were not very good. I was not happy with them. I was told one thing by the salesman and got something else in a couple of instances. They were supposed to keep the front door and back door alike. I could not get that done. Anything that I needed like painting, it did not get done. Besides the door that Max paid for, I bought exterior doors as well. They ripped off the molding around the exterior front door and did not replace it with anything. They told me that I could tape it. I had molding around every single door and window around my house whereas they wanted me to put tap around my main entrace door. I did not want to do that. I have to get somebody over to fix that. They measured my back door and told me to get a thirty inches door. I did that and then they told me that it should have been a thirty two inches door. I had to take it back to get another one. They threw away all the things that came in the boxes like the instruction manuals, the warranty and things like that. I had no paper work for my doors. They ordered me a warranty for the interior door that they finally put. I have no paper work other than that. I am one of those people that still had the warranty for the things that I had bought two years ago. The workmanship was very good for what they actually did. However, there was a disconnection between their sales team and the other functions. They did not do a professional job of leaving my front door with just to be taped. The quality of the work was good but their responsiveness was inadequate. They dragged on with some excuses.
