Jim Thompson is the president and owner of Thompson's Garage Door and Openers Company, Inc. He started the business in 1991, selling and installing out of his own garage. Twenty-four years and a lot of hard work later, we now have a new high-tech showroom and office. We are a 4-star dealer for C.H.I. Overhead Doors and we're an Authorized LiftMaster dealer for residential and commercial garage door, and gate operators. We are also the local SE MN dealer for the Lifestyle Garage Screen Doors.

Services we offer
We sell and install new garage doors and garage door openers, and all types of seal replacements. We do preventative maintenance where we will oil and adjust your door and opener making sure it remains safe and also check spring tension, and replace or repair lost, etc. We replace and repair broken springs and have 24-hr emergency service!, frayed cables, garage door sections, loose hinges/bolts, old, or stolen remotes, roller wear, service and repair all types of garage doors and openers

I have a two door garage. Garage opener stopped working, and need to replace the second garage door, since it's old and not functional. Dustin came out in no time to give a quote. During the estimate visit, Dustin explained everything, from timing, work schedule, to how the actual installation would go. Adequate time was given to consider quote. If my memory served me right, various insurance and certificate copies were included in the quote package. The crew came out right on time, and the installation was done in a timely manner, as described. Crew cleaned up after themselves, and even helped me haul away some debris from when I prepare the garage for installation. They will definitely get a call from me should anything happen to my garage door. I think they are the best in town.

They came out promptly and replaced the sensors and adjusted the garage door. Everything works great. They did a wonderful job. Only thing somewhat strange that they do is that they require a credit card number before doing anything. Didn't really like that, but they are a reputable company and I didn't have too much of a worry about it.

It is our policy to have a credit card to secure the appointment as we have had several issues in the past. But, as I hope you were told, we do not charge the card until the service or job is completed and if you choose to pay by check or cash, we shred the credit card number and apply payment that way. Work was very prompt - Jim Thompson came out and went above and beyond trying to track down a signal that came and went that could've potentially been interfering with our old opener. When the problem persisted, they showed up same-day to install the replacement opener. They were and quot;bookedand quot; schedule-wise but were willing to fit us in when they finished other work early - and they always called ahead to let us know when they were coming. The install went smoothly and the we are very happy with the new equipment - it is functioning perfectly so far and the problem seems to be resolved.
The only minor oddity is that they requested credit card information over the phone prior to scheduling the first service call for a and quot;holdand quot; (no charges were made until the work was completed). I understand there are no 'free' estimates and that it is less risky for them to operate this way, but I have yet to encounter any other service company (plumbers, roofers, etc) that does this so it was a bit unexpected.

Garage door opener broke and door would not open. Call Jim Thompson and he came by within 1 hour and helped get the garage open and set up a time to install a new garage door. I have worked with Jim on a number of projects for myself and my clients (I am a REALTOR) and he and his crew have always taken great care of them and provided exceptional service.

Our and gt;20 yr-old Raynor opener broke (in the middle of a very cold spell). We contacted Jim on the basis of other reviews on this site. He personally answered the phone at 7 PM, and was out to our house by the next day about noon. He assessed the problem, and was able to fix it within 48 hours. Our new Chamberlain equipment (Raynor apparently no longer exists) works great! | |He was very professional and courteous and answered my numerous questions about door and opener maintenance. We found his price for parts and labor to be pretty reasonable (the opener alone was $200, took several hours to install, and he replaced the door rollers and seal which were in bad shape). I do not hesitate to recommend him to others.

I've used Thompson garage door three times- when I first moved in, and there was no remote left by the prior owner, second when a spring broke on the door, and third when I decided to buy a new door and opener. All three times they responded very quickly- when the spring broke and I couldn't get the door open, they arrived within 3 hours. The new door and opener (to replace a 30 year old model) is wonderful, very energy efficient, and attractive. I appreciate how their sales representative (Bruce) walked me through all the options to get just the color and design I wanted. They did a great job installing it, too, in a small tuck- under space (it was a custom size). Much quieter opener than I had before too. I'm happy!

Jim was very responsive, eager to answer questions, discuss options, etc. I was very impressed with how quick he would get back to me with estimate adjustments. I had originally been dealing with another garage door company (Nelson), but they guy fell off the radar for no apparent reason...stopped answering calls and responding to emails, I have no idea why. But Thompson was very prompt and we're very happy with the new door.
We ordered our newdoor at the beginiing of June, knowing that our exisitng one had its days numbered. Jim told me the new doors take about three weeks to be delivered. Two weeks into the waiting period our old door finally busted. When I informed Jim, just wanting to see how our order was coming along, he offered to help get vehicles out of the garage or make a temporary fix. I had no need at that time so declined but appreciated the service offer.

They went above and beyond what they could've done. They have always been very good and very professional. I have been using them for many years and in those years, there was just only one problem and they came back to fix it. Otherwise, I've been very happy with their services.
