Varsity Painters

The actual grade should probably be a B+ or A-. The job went reasonably well. The work was performed while we were away looking for a house to buy in another state. When we returned, the work was complete. The painters came in on a Saturday to finish the job under the time required. However, it was clear that they compromised on things like masking trim and covering furniture and flooring, as there were many drips that had been, for the most part, cleaned up. I would certainly hire them again, but it would be better to be around to keep an eye on things and complain about corner cutting in real time.

Varsity Painters did an excellent job. They arrived as scheduled; they power washed the house first. They finished the majority of the job in about two days. The crew worked exceptionally long days. They were courteous and skilled. This paint job went more smoothly than any other we have had over the last 30 years.

When we obtained the estimate the representative was right on time and was energetic and professional. Their price was comparable to other firms we requested to provide estimates so we hired them. We signed contract in May and they told us they estimated it would be early July when the work would be done. Early July came and went and we didn't hear back from them so I called and they told me we were on the schedule for Mon July 16 and that they would be there before 9:00 a.m. On July 16 nobody showed up by 9 so I called to find out the status. I was told that they had a mix up in their schedule and we were actually on the schedule for the following Mon July 23. Then on Thurs the 19th they called and asked if they could come out on Fri the 20th. They again said they'd be there by 9 but didn't show till 11. Since they started late they did not finish the work in one day as they had promised. They left their trailer in front of the house for the weekend without asking.

There were some minor corrections and it took them months to get it taken care of. They said they would do the job in May and now it is mid July and they are here doing that work. I think they did good work overall.

Received 3 bids for the project, with Varsity being the lowest bid. Once the job started it moved quickly, with the whole project completed in 5-6 on-site days. The paint looks good. There were several issues that came up during the project, mostly related to sloppy work by the crew. Steve from Varsity did do everything in his power to resolve all the issues we encountered, including repairing several windows, cleaning up messes and even replacing items that were inadvertently damaged. Steve definitely works hard to maintain his company's reputation.

This company should not represent themselves as offering deck maintenance and pressure washing for it. It took several calls for someone to call me back to schedule an estimate. Didn't show up as promised the first time so I had to call again. When he showed up and saw the project, he told me that he was sorry for not coming as scheduled, but that he was a "busy guy." When I asked for a timetable of when they could do the work, I was told they would have to fit me in somewhere in between their other jobs, because mine was small so they couldn't give me a specific date. It didn't really seem like he wanted to take the job, which is fine. However, they should have declined my request for an estimate if they thought it was too small of a job and not wasted my time in calling them repeatedly and waiting home for them to come for an estimate. Went with another company who ended up doing more work. A "small job" turned into a $2000 job with another company who I was very pleased with

Overall it was a good experience. We weren't around most of the time when they were actually working on our house, but they were courteous, arrived on time and cleaned up well throughout and at the end of project. When a couple of windows broke, they explained what happened and helped us find a place to repair them. They also painted our metal railings, which was an unexpected bonus. There were times when we had to be flexible to accommodate their timing, in handing off keys, reviewing the work done etc. This was sometimes not convenient for us.

Very good experience. Joe and his team worked with us to make sure we had the right paint color. The painters cleaned up after they left and it was a good experience throughout.

Everybody with Varsity was punctual, professional, and thorough, from quote to color consultation to power washing to painting. They were VERY flexible with rescheduling our job several times (because of our need to have some carpentry work completed before painting) and completed the painting in about three days. Communication by Joe and the painters was excellent throughout the entire process.

Extremely pleasant to work with. We expect to hire them again next year to paint the outside of our house. Joe Perry (owner) was extremely conscientious.

Steve is such a good listener! I told him what I had in mind, then he offered his more experienced, professional opinion. He had a great idea which I hadn't thought of. He arrived on time, and within a few days, the bid arrived in the mail. It was very detailed and easy to understand. Since we are improving the curb appeal to sell the house this summer, I chose a less expensive company and am probably going to get what I pay for. I got the impression that Varsity is a reputable company and would have chosen them if we were going to stay in this house.

Steve was great to work with;always seemed available to answer questions and was fair throughout the process. The prep job was solid and we really like the overall paint job and the price and availability this late in the year!

Very professional and prompt. We've decided to hold off on the project for now.

Grayson kept in touch with me at all times to tell me when each phase of the project would be done. The workers were polite and diligent. The paint job looks fantastic. I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

We were extremely pleased. We trusted them to come into our home while we were in DC. When we returned, our painting was beautifully completed and one wouldn't have known they were even there except for the new paint that looks fabulous.

They did a great job. You can't tell the difference between the new trim and old trim in terms of color. They were punctual and cleaned up everything before they left.

They completed the job in two days and did an awesome job! No worries with this company!

Everyone we dealt with was very pleasant and on time. When doing the final walk through we pointed out a few things that were corrected immediately.

Mark, the company rep, did an excellent job representing the company. He thoroughly explained the process from start to finish and offered suggestions on color. The crew was prompt and speedy and did an excellent job. Follow-up was a little spotty, but when I contacted the company with my remaining concerns, they took care of everything well.

I was very impressed with them. There estimate was detailed and easy to follow. We choose another company because of start date and price but had they had more room in the schedule for us and a better price we would have chosen them.

I highly recommend this company and can think of no negative things to report! All of the employees who worked on the house were very thorough, skilled, tidy and courteous and they completed the job in only 3 days (not counting the day of the wash). The house looks terrific. But my best story concerns my elderly opinionated father who lives with me. He is 93 and a former contractor/painter/handyman. I'm embarrassed to say that he was a real pain during this job. He stood over the workers and criticized them for the entire time. Nothing was done right. They were too slow, too fast, why did't they do it like he would do it, etc. etc. I was about to lose my mind, but everyone else was very kind to him. After the job was done, my dad stepped out on the porch and looked at the house. He said, ''Well, I gotta say one thing, those guys were GOOD! They did one hell of a job.'' If my father says they were good, they were really good.

They were fabulous, clean, on time, professional, and courteous. (They were all that and a bag of chips.)

These guys were great! Joe was always available to answer questions and really took the time to make sure we had the color combinations we wanted. His supervisor was also extremely helpful. The beginning of the job started about a week or so late but it was not a big deal to us. Once the painters arrived, everything went very smoothly. Any issues we had (and there were very few) were fixed the next day. I would highly recommend this company to anyone. It is so refreshing to finally have great customer service.

Excellent work. I have a recent addition with cedar siding. As the old and new sections have weathered differently, I was going to stain the whole thing one color. After power-washing it looked so good, I just painted the trim. The crews arrived early and worked all day finishing the project in record time. They cleaned up after themselves and left no mess behind. Would definitely use them again.
