They were very expensive. They did come and do the work on a Saturday so it might have been a little more expensive but had I known what they were going to charge I would have waited until Monday to have the work done.

I called to ask about their service for drain cleaning and to see when I could get someone over. They gave me a price for the service over the phone and asked me when I would prefer service. I told them first thing the next morning and they said they would call back after they talked to their drain guy. They called back in about 20-30 minutes to confirm an appointment for the next morning. The serviceman called the next day at the time of the appointment to tell me he was about twenty minutes away. He arrived, then looked over the situation and brought his tools in to unplug the drains. He told me exactly what he was doing and got the job done in the time he estimated it would take. He had a uniform and truck with a different company name and he told me his company was contracted by Soderlin to do drain work. My only disappointment was that he left some water on the basement floor when he was done and just commented that it was clean water and would dry up by itself. I mopped it up.
Description of Work: The main waste line from the house and one smaller interior sink waste line were each cleaned out.

The connection on our laundry sink broke and we had water all over the floor. The sink is in an odd place to work on and we could not stop the water leaking. Probably we could have done it ourselves but it would have taken time we did not have. I called Soderlin and explained the problem; they were my second choice but my first choice was booked. They said they could send someone out right away. I asked for some idea of pricing and was told they would give me a price once they assessed the situation. Someone from Soderlin came out within an hour. He gave my husband an estimate of $450 roughly. Less the coupon and plus taxes. It seemed high but at that point we just said what the heck. Water is leaking on the floor. What else can we do? So he spent about an hour, replacing both hot and cold water connectors and replacing the laundry sink faucet (we had the fixture and were going to do it ourselves, but..) The job was done well but pricey for just an hour of work.
Description of Work: We had a laundry sink leaking. Our normal plumber was busy and could not come out. We called Soderlin and they came out to fix the sink. Did a nice job and installed a faucet I had purchased and was planning on putting in. My only problem with them was the price was rather high for an hour of work, but when you have water on the floor you ignore rational thought. However, after the fact, I called to get some more clarification of pricing and they said they would send me something but unfortunately I have never received anything so I don't know how they arrived at their pricing.

They also advised that to do the work they would need 3 different permits at $90 each in which I would need to pay. They later told me, in order to replace one of my sewer line caps, they would have to dig up the sewerline in my front yard. They then told me, they would need to tear out some walls in order to connect the vent pipe from my laundry tub up to my 2nd floor bathroom vent & that they couldn't guarantee their work on 2nd floor bathroom vent since, the 2nd floor toilet isn't straight. Their rates are almost $6000 more than everyone else I spoke with. I will not be going with this company.

One of the few Angie's list companies that we called that would work on the gravity furnace. They came out a few days after the call - which we were pleased with (it wasn't an emergency repair). The project went well. They were on time, communicated well, did the work quickly and with quality. The only challenge we had is that they would not estimate the work over the phone - we had no idea if it was a $100 or $1000 project.

A master plumber and journeyman plumber arrived punctually in the morning. They quickly devised a strategy for rerouting the new system. They worked efficiently and I was very pleased with the quality of the work. I was delighted that the damage to the walls and ceiling was so minimal as they devised a way to run the pipe outside of the wall. I was easily able to repair the damage myself. There were two add-ons, a vent in the roof needed to be adjusted and sealed and a strainer basket was replaced in one of the sinks. The two plumbers worked a total of five hours so, on a hourly basis, I felt the rates were high. I would warn any clients to ask for the cost of add-ons before proceeding.
Description of Work: We first became aware of a problem when the kitchen drain in a second floor apartment of our 4-plex clogged up. The building dates from the 1880s. The first attempt to manually snake the drain failed and the second attempt with a motorized snake broke the pipe and water began pouring through the light fixture in the bedroom below. As a result the entire waste line needed to be replaced down to the basement and a new connection made to the vent in the attic. The original waste pipe was capped off and an entirely new pipe was installed including the pipe in the kitchen in the apartment below.

They were very responsive. I felt the price they charged was reasonable considering they came within 45 minutes of me confirming the city's arrival to shut off my main line from the street. The problem turned out not to be what I thought it was, but they were very professional and gave me an estimate if it turned out to be what I thought it would be.

I asked Soderlin to visit based on the Angie's List rating. I wanted them to fix 3 minor faucet leaks. The kitchen faucet is an 8 yr. old Kohler faucet. The plumber indicated it would cost more than $300 to fix the leak, but that there would be additional expense to find the part and come back. He recommended that we buy a new faucet from Soderlin. I asked him to work on the other 2 faucets since I knew they were minor and quick repairs. I did this on the phone while my wife was home with him. Unfortunately, the total charge was $245 for 20-30 minutes of work. He charged $69 for the visit plus $98 per faucet (less 10% Angie's List coupon). My wife agreed to this, and so part of this is our fault. Their business model is to charge for a visit, then give a quote for each job. Their seriously overcharge, so if they have a problem job they're covered. I'd rather work with honest people that charge hourly. I called the office and the reply was "maybe we're not a fit."
Description of Work: They stopped a minor leak in 2 faucets; 1 in the shower and 1 for the laundry drain tub. The leaks were very minor and only involved replacing rubber washers. I wanted them to fix a leak in an 8 year old kitchen faucet but they wanted to replace the faucet for $600.00.

SODERLIN WAS CALLED OUT FOR FAUCET REPAIRS AT THE STATED RESIDENCE. WE GAVE PRICES, AFTER THE INITIAL SERVICE FEE, OF $88.20 FOR EACH REPAIR. OUR TECHNICIANS WILL GIVE OPTIONS TO REPLACE OR REPAIR BASED ON THERE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE WORKING ON THESE FAUCETS. SOME FAUCETS EVEN AFTER REPAIR MAY STILL NOT WORK PROPERLY DUE TO USE AND AGE. WE GIVE THE OPTIONS SO OUR CUSTOMERS CAN MAKE A DECISION ON WHAT WORK TO DO. OUR SERVICEMAN WAS AT THIS JOB FOR ROUGHLY AN HOUR. WE GAVE THE CUSTOMER THE PRICE UPFRONT AND THEY WANTED THE WORK DONE. TO OUR KNOWLEDGE THE REPAIRS HAVE WORKED. I TOLD THE CUSTOMER THAT WE MAY NOT BE A GOOD FIT, BECAUSE IT SEEMED THEY DID NOT LIKE OUR PRICING. JASON ARENDT

After, arriving home from vacation we discovered a puddle of water in our kitchen the following morning directly below the upstairs shower. I called Soderlin for a quote and was told they could send someone out, the next morning. Randy arrived exactly on time and spent a fair amount of time trying to determine what was causing the leak, it was not the faucet, as we had originally guessed. He was unable to recreate it and ended up giving me several ways to determine, if it was a problem with the tile leaking or the drain should the leak occur again (it hasn't). He replaced the exterior water faucet. I was very happy, that he didn't attempt to fix something in the bathroom, without knowing the cause of the problem and the new exterior faucet works well and doesn't drip. I was charged for the faucet replacement and the cost of the estimate for both. The estimate was a fixed estimate not based on hours.
Description of Work: We had a leak from the upstairs bathroom. Randy came in and gave a quote on how much fixing the leak would cost. I also, had him replace an external faucet that was dripping.

When I had called them to take my information they informed me they would come out with an estimate. We set it up for a certain date between a certain time frame, it was getting towards the later part of the time frame so I called to find out why. They apologized and scheduled another appointment for the next day. They then informed me that they found my work order and would not charge me to come out for the estimate! They were most apologetic and informed me that they would be there that day.

The plumber came on time and was here about three hours. He did a good job with the installations and took away the old stuff. My only complaint was the cost of the materials they provided: sink drains were $36 (could have bought them at Home Depot for half of that), washing machine hoses ($54), and laundry tub valves and faucet ($56). It felt like we were taken advantage of since the materials needed to be installed.

Last week, on one of the hottest nights of the summer, my central air stopped working. I was in misery all night. My air conditioner is about 10 years old and last fall I planned on having it checked out to make sure it would be up and running for the summer. I didn t do it and I was kicking myself for procrastinating. Now I was stuck, I was sure that every air conditioner repair company would be working overtime and I would have to wait a week in misery to have someone come fix it. The company that installed it is not in business anymore and I didn t know where to turn. Then I thought of Angie s list! I did a search and found Soderlin. They had great feedback so I called them. After I explained the situation, the pleasant woman on the phone told me a repairman would be over in two hours! She told me that the minimum for a service call was $89. There would also be a charge for any parts. He showed up within two hours and fixed it. The bill was $89 plus $5 for the fuse. A+.

I cannot say enough good things about Soderlin Plumbing and Heating! From my first call to set an appointment to the work completed, they all were friendly and professional. On the day they were initially to come out, it was raining so they couldn't do the outside work. Jason called to explain this, even apologizing. Jeff was here at 7:00 am the following business day. He is very knowledgeable, explained everything he was going to do, gave me a fair price up front, and advised me on what type of thermostat would be best with my system. I am so very very impressed with this company, and I will definitely hire again!
Description of Work: I had a leaking PVC pipe leading from the furnace to the outside of the house. Jeff came and assessed the job, gave me a price, and came back 2 days later to do the work of adding an extension to the pipe, so it no longer will leak between the exit point and outside wall of the house.

Appreciated that the workman was honest and didn't make up a problem when he couldn't find one. The roof is greater than 20 yrs old so it's probably the source of the leaks, just hadn't thought of it yet.
Description of Work: We had some leaks (3) in the ceiling on 2nd floor, thought they were coming from radiator and plumbing on 3rd floor. The workman was very nice and after comparing the location of the leaks in the ceiling and the location of plumbing and radiator above and measuring it out he concluded it was not a plumbing problem but probably due to a very old roof with leaky eaves. No charge for coming out and his inspection. I would call them again.

While Jeff (Soderlin) did the work promised, THE PRICE WAS WAY MORE EXPENSIVE than other plumbers in town. We paid 39% more than other plumbers charge ($1900 is a fair price for a water heater swap out). They charge based upon the job and their equipment, labor, and parts costs are well over other plumbers and plumbing supply houses (used by the contractors.) For example we were charged $960 for the water heater, 40% more than they paid for the water heater ($684.) They also charge installation cost on each part and on top charge for total labor time (thus double charging for labor.)During installation and removal they bumped our boiler hot water outlet line which is now leaking. In addition, they did not install a drain pan underneath the new water heater in a room that has no drain capability (our basement is completed finished.) In summary, Soderline has quality people BUT THEIR PRICES ARE WAY OUT OF LINE. I simply cannot recommend them to anyone based upon their costs.
Description of Work: Soderlin Plumbing (Jeff) installed a new 50 gallon (65K BTU) water heater and site cleared two existing older water heaters. In addition they installed a new routed gas line branch to the heater and re-routed the vent ducts. HOWEVER THE PRICE WAS WAY MORE EXPENSIVE than other plumbers charge for the same services in town.

It seemed straightforward. There was water damage on the floor below the upstairs toilet; this is a common problem when the wax ring disintegrates. Solution: replace wax ring; plumber 1, toilet 0. Job done in 45 minutes. (WAY faster than my learning how, etc.). My basement toilet is vintage, most piping in my house is either cast iron or galvanized steel. Install a shut-off on the water supply solves problem of running water. Yet there is this annoying drip, drip, drip sound, coming from the soil stack where the upstairs toilet attaches. Plumber is vexed & chagrined (who wouldn't be), especially when a more thorough inspection shows it wasn't water at all, but GLUE stains on the floor. PVC meets cast iron soil stack needs a special joint: installed but ... my house is 120 yrs old; this "upgrade" was done awhile back. The leak persists...Part 2, in which the plumber and the soil stack meet again, will take place in a few days.
Description of Work: An attempt to resolve an ongoing, but sporadic, problem of water seeping from sewage pipe & water supply. Seepage #1 ... previous homeowners never thought a shut-off valve to the basement toilet was all that important. The supply line leaked. Seepage #2 ... an oddly spring/fall situation where water seeps from the soil stack. Mission: diagnose & resolve. This homeowner has had only catastrophic experiences trying to fix tiny plumbing problems. Yeah, yeah, the book shows how to do it, but I don't have a plumbing degree, and every time I approach water, regardless of how careful or simple the job is, the result is far more water, and broken parts.

We had Darrin come out and remove a bathroom radiator and come back a few days later to re-install after new bathroom tile had been laid. As usual, Soderlin was great to work with. I also had them give an estimate on installing a new pedestal sink and toilet. The bid on just the sink ran $680. The toilet was $240. My husband did the work after almost passing out at the cost of their quotes. They are great to work with-but be ready to pay dearly. Always ask for your 10% discount.
Description of Work: Bathroom radiator flushed and sealed and re-installed after new tile floor put in.
