From start to finish, John and his crews provided excellent customer service and finished product. All interactions with John and his crew members demonstrated respect, care and prompt attention to any concerns. Work was done exactly when they said they would do the work, completed on time, and per the bid. I highly recommend using Cornerstone.

I interviewed three contractors and Kyle and John came across as the most knowledgeable about repairing the issues of my older home and foundation. They weren't the low bidder but, in my mind they provided the best plan for doing the job. On the first day the work team removed the old concrete, packed the ground and put in the forms. The next day, with three concrete trucks on our street at one time, the concrete pour was well-coordinated and smoothed to, what I considered, perfection. The next day the yard was all cleaned up. Now, nearly six months later, I'm left with a crack-free concrete job, a warranty, and I've gotten compliments on my driveway's attractive appearance. It has always been a pleasure working with this company, from Kyle's initial estimate last spring, through John enthusiastically helping to get my car with the dead battery going, through an exciting three days of doing the project, to paying for it this fall, and arranging a periodic resealing plan to make it last.
Description of Work: Replace the concrete driveway, garage floor, and front sidewalk of our home built in 1960. We had a 1 foot border added to each side of the driveway and had it decoratively stamped so we would have walking space between our cars and our inevitable Minnesota snowbanks along the driveway.

I enjoyed working with this company so much on this project. The owner and the crew are all wonderful people and a joy to have to your home and are very knowledgable and professional. They have the best prices by far and saved my thousands compared to other bids we received from other companies for the same project. The bottom line is if you want a great company and crew to complete your project at the best possible price, you don't need to call anyone else, call Cornerstone. I can't recommend them enough and I know you'll have love working with them as much as I did!!

Cornerstone Concrete just completed an exceptional concrete floor for me. This family-based business was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. They trusted me to do the initial stages of the prep (at my request) which helped with cost, and they took it from the rebar on up. They spent much extra time making sure the surface was professionally power-floated, and the high-gloss surface was exactly what I wanted. Great care was taken with the final expansion cuts, which channel any future cracks, but with a quality floor like this one I doubt there will ever be any. The finished surface is spectacular, and I will be reluctant to park cars on it! This was an atypical 35-foot diameter circular area, but their highly effective and experienced team had no trouble adapting to it. They also worked exceptionally well with me to complete an unrelated sidewalk job at the same time. I never expected so much help on this side job, but they chipped in and added crucial help as the sun beat down and threatened to overwhelm my lone efforts. The point is that Cornerstone exceeded all expectations to ensure a satisfied customer. I could not be happier with the work, the price, or the exceptionally positive experience in working with each member of their team!

Talk about efficient, dependable, service! Cornerstone is top notch! John, the owner, his sons and the rest of his crew are seriously the best! They are prompt, friendly, polite, and stand by their workmanship. They are also very considerate even of the chipmunks living under the garage apron and the front step to our flowers planted next to the driveway. We pursued other quotes and always went back to Cornerstone as they used the best materials like re-bar instead of the mesh and their pricing was better. As a professional Realtor, I always want to refer the best contractors to my clients and It's obvious I will recommend Cornerstone to everyone as one neighbor has already had his driveway replaced and others are getting quotes.

The Cornerstone team was great to work with and very professional. They did an excellent job with keeping me informed of the progress and when the project would be completed. We had some complications do to heavy rain and poor soil conditions. John's bid was fair and I would recommend Cornerstone too anyone. My only complaint is when they took down the wood framing they left several screws in my yard which my little kids discovered with their bare feet.
Description of Work: I had my existing 25 year old cracked and uneven concrete driveway removed. Then had new 12-18" of class 5 base put down with new 4" thick concrete driveway. My driveway is approximately 3 cars wide and 2+ cars long for size.

Cornerstone Concrete, LLC (the "Company") installed a concrete driveway at my house in September, 2015, but did not lay it to exact plan specifications. This caused an issue when backing vehicles out of the right side of the driveway, so I installed pavers two feet wide along the right side of the driveway in May, 2016 to compensate for their mistake. I also installed pavers along the left side of the driveway to make it aesthetically look correct. The Company inadvertently tore out and replaced concrete aprons at the top and bottom of my driveway which was not part of our contract, but was to my benefit. When one of the Company's employees was cutting expansion joints into the concrete driveway two days after it was laid he chipped part of the concrete, which the owner of the Company, John Lecy, subsequently patched. Two weak areas of the concrete driveway cracked within the last eight months. One small section (approximately 2") had actually broke off. Mr. Lecy stopped at my house and talked to me during the winter, at my request, because I wanted to let him know that I had discovered, after his Company had installed my driveway, that they had laid it a little askew, which resulted in vehicles driving off of the driveway when backing out of the right side of it. I was extremely displeased with Mr. Lecy's reaction when I brought this issue to his attention, because instead of being willing to work with me and install additional concrete along the right side of my driveway to compensate for the Company's mistake (which I was willing to pay my fair share of money toward), he brought up the fact that had I received more driveway than I had paid for, because he made a mistake of not telling his guys that they weren't supposed to replace the aprons of my old driveway. This, of course, was not done upon my permission, and when they replaced the aprons, they did so under their contractual obligation to correct their mistake.

John was very friendly and easy to talk to. My only suggestion would be to have his son do the phone calls as he was quite erratic on the phone. However, in person, he is very knowledgeable and intelligent and you can tell that he truly cares about providing an excellent product and experience. In the end, I went with asphalt, but had I chosen concrete I would have used Cornerstone and will use him for my future projects.

I was there watching for the entire job. John was able to get the job done a few days earlier than scheduled. The weather was with us. Excellent crew. Friendly, competent, skilled, and very hard working. Knew what they were doing. The digging out of the wet clay area was not in the original contract, but the extra cost billed was very reasonable. The finish work was done with care and an artist's touch. The broom finish and saw cut expansion joints look great. I decided to keep the driveway wet for 28 days - by covering it with burlap held down by 20 2x4s. I watered it several times a day to keep the burlap wet. At night when I woke, I would turn on a sprinkler for half an hour. Concrete reaches 75% strength in 7 days and 100% in 28. By keeping the surface covered and wet it was able to cure evenly. A MN DOT engineer lives down the street and stopped to complement me for doing it right by covering it with burlap and keeping it wet. The state can only get by with 7 days and 75% strength. I bought the burlap in 5 x 60 foot rolls on Amazon. 3 rolls for $175.00. I overlapped the seams by a couple inches and held it in place by laying twenty 8 foot 2 x 4s over it. Wind wasn't a problem because the burlap was wet the whole time. I let it dry out in the sun the last day. I then put it in plastic boxes for reuse in the future. John and his crew are the best. Hire him. I got 4 quotes from Angie's List. Two were way high and one was a couple hundred dollars less than John's. But when I talked to John I had confidence in him and his ability and I decided to hire him. It's nice to be happy with a decision. It's even better to have a driveway that I almost look forward to snow blowing this winter. The old asphalt had sink holes I would slip in. This driveway will drain well. The bad clay base is gone and there is 6 plus inches of recycled crushed concrete under the 5.5 inches of new concrete. I couldn't be happier. I had an idea of drilling into the garage floor to pin it to the new concrete. A house down the street had done this with a new driveway a few years ago. John explained why he never does this - it has the potential to lift the garage floor and damage it. I followed John's advice. The other potential contractors were willing to do this. John's experience was very helpful in planning the work. He knows what he is doing. You can rely on him. He suggested burlap. I was going to use plastic. Hire John - Cornerstone Concrete - then keep the concrete wet and covered with burlap for 28 days after. Any concrete expert, including John, will tell you it's the right thing to do, but hardly anyone does. This driveway will last.
Description of Work: Replaced an asphalt driveway with concrete. Removed all the old asphalt. Increased the width from 20 to 22 x 38. 5.5" thick, #4 rebar on 16" centers. Widened to 24 feet at the street. Found wet clay under part. Dug out clay and replaced the base with crushed recycled concrete. Compacted the base. The next day did the concrete pour. John uses MN DOT 4500 mix - same as on state highways. They sprayed a curing agent when it was set. The day after that another crew came and cut expansion joints in the driveway. They used snap lines to mark the cuts. All the cuts are perfect, straight and professional. Four weeks later they returned to spray a concrete seal on the driveway. They waited for 4 weeks to allow me to keep it covered with burlap and wet.

Though John missed the original appointment in March he was very apologetic and came out even though it was later in the evening. He did request 1/2 payment up front 3 months in advance which I thought was unreasonable but I did pay 50% 2 weeks before project took place. Very professional and extremely communicative. John's son oversaw all of the work and made sure clean up etc was done well. They performed what was quoted, explained the process and though we await sealing (approx 30 days after garage floor completion) I have great confidence in the completion as quoted. The crew was efficient and very thorough. I would recommend them in a heartbeat and will use them again if needed. Though we had a dead end alley and they had to cope with neighbors coming and going they were quite respectful and effective.

The Angie's Big Deal that you purchased clearly stated it was for tear out and replacement of 100 sq. ft. of driveway. When I arrived to assess the area you wanted replaced and found out you wanted 525 sq. ft. replaced instead of the 100 stated in the add, I realized you had bought the Big Deal erroneously. I'm sorry you misread the Big Deal. Thank you for mentioning my prompt response with a phone call to correct the problem. Rest assured, knowing the good reputation of Angie's List and Cornerstone Concrete, llc, the problem will be resolved completely and as soon as possible. They removed the garage siding 3' up from the bottom plate of the stud walls to allow shoring planks to come through the sheathing. They strategically raised the garage to allow them to pull the old concrete out and lowered it after completing the new floor. They also patched the sheathing and re-attached the siding. They tore out and disposed properly the existing garage slab and apron. 22' x 18' They installed a Floating Garage slab. The perimeter was 12" in depth and beveled up starting at 12" in from the outer bottom edge. It was beveled into the main garage floor which was 4" thick throughout. The thickened perimeter had 2- #4 re-bar continuous and the garage floor had a 4' x 4' - #3 re-bar through out. The concrete was poured with a #4500 mix design. The existing asphalt driveway was removed and disposed of properly. They poured new concrete at 4" thick using a #4500 concrete mix design. This mix is a MN DOT certified road, curb and sidewalk mix design. There was a 4' x 4' re-bar grid through out the entire slab to help prevent the concrete from separating and also there was Buckeye Fibers, which will help prevent shrinkage cracks. The day after they poured, they saw cut expansion joints. There were no sections that exceed 7' x 7'. After full cure out ,28 days, they applied a top grade concrete sealer called Tri-Siloxane; this sealer has a life of 4-6 years. They also put in an 8" circular sidewalk/entrance to the entry door in the garage. They started and finished on time. This is the 3rd time we have used them. Obviously we recommend them highly. Job was completed 7 months ago. We are fully satisfied.

John and his team were awesome! They couldn't be a nicer group of guys. From the first meeting, John took a genuine interest in both the job and in my historic home. My driveway is unusual in that the home is on a corner lot and the driveway wraps completely around the house, and under an original carriage porte. Proper design was key to complimenting the historic integrity of the home and we were very specific with our design request, going so far as to provide a detailed rendering depicting soft, undulating curves and portions where the solid slab drive was to transition into tracks with a grass boulevard down the middle. John and his team worked very closely with us to give us exactly what we wanted. We tried to be home for most of the work, and told them to never hesitate to knock and ask us questions....which they didn't and we greatly appreciated. The whole process felt very collaborative and everyone involved seemed genuinely interested in getting all the details right. John and his crew were also very concerned with making sure the driveway was graded properly for water runoff, which is, of course, a very important aspect of concrete work and was overlooked by all the other bidders. The crew left the site very clean and the driveway looks great! Cornerstone will be coming back in a few weeks to seal, and I suspect that will go just as smoothly. I would absolutely call these guys again for future concrete needs. Thanks John and team!
Description of Work: Old driveway was a combination of concrete runners and compacted gravel. Cornerstone tore out approximately 40 feet of the old concrete portion and excavated the remaining compacted gravel portion and poured a whole new driveway.

We had a dirt driveway with occasional patches of class 5 and concrete. The steps from the driveway to the back sidewalk were in bad shape and irregular. The back sidewalk was heaving and spalled. John recommended against laying a new bed for the driveway, saying he was very familiar with soil types and conditions in this area and that it would only be necessary to grade it and fill in any softer spots. It made me a little nervous, but he had great reviews on Angie's List, his bid was substantially lower than those of his competitors and he had a better warranty. For the difference in price, I was willing to risk a crack or two. Over the course of just two days, his team worked like beavers doing the demo, grading, forms and the Big Pour. They ran out of concrete at the very end of the driveway pour, for a little curved extension. John came back the following week and mixed and poured it by hand. The results are fabulous! It looks great and is a huge improvement in terms of safety and ease of snow removal. John's a great guy to work with, as are the members of his team, and I highly recommend them.

Took several bids. There was quite a spread. It was early in the year and John's was on the low end. My wife was very comfortable with John. John is quite an honest guy and was very interested in our project. The removal was done by a subcontractor hired by John. They were excellent and I would hire them again in a heartbeat. The removal was difficult, but they were able to remove everything without damaging the house and little of the yard. great job. Johns crew was next and the concrete work was excellent. I have had excellent reviews of the look by friends and other contractors. There are a couple things that I was surprised about. The original base was reused with a new sand base used to fill in for new steps. This was done on the day of the concrete delivery. It was hand tamped. The bid did not include removal and new rock base. It was deemed the existing base would be sufficient. The concrete was poured and leveled. It has been 2 years and the concrete has not spalled and is 95% level. Still looks very good. But we have some cracks. The cracks appeared in the same place the old concrete had failed. Taked to John about this. He wanted to wait a full year for the full frost/defrost cycle. The cracks did not grow for a year, but the beginning of the cold spell, 2014, another crack has formed in the area of the first. This is where I give myself an F for being a bit too cheap. I should have asked for the removal of the old fill and had way more gravel or whatever is needed to keep the heaving from occuring. A machine tamping would be required also. To be honest all the other bids did not include new base, except for one contractor. Their bid was very expensive and I think I know why now. I don't fault John for this as we agreed on what the bid was for and he executed with a good looking product. I gave a B rating because I think the contractor should assess the base issue and inform the customer of the options. This might be something inherent with the bid process as everyone is sensitive to cost and time constraints. As of now the cracks have not resulted in uneven surfaces. But the cracks appear to be intensifying at one spot. I am not sure how I am going to resolve this. The slab must have pretty good reinforcement as the cracks are narrow, but the area is definitely heaving. Lesson here is to spend substantially on base as it is the foundation.
