Services we offer
Residential & Commercial - Broken spring & cable replacement. Garage door & opener sales, repair, & maintenance. Garage door panel replacement. Commercial garage door installation, grilles & gates, rolling steel, fire door sales & installations, fire door drop tests.
Difficult to schedule - work only in 4 hour time slots and had very few days available. Worst part of Metro - was I asked and they made it clear that labor and drive time was included in quote of $154 for single torsion spring. Darren the installer then spend 20 annoying minutes trying to upsell me on replacing my garage opener and replace my doors. I did not want to replace them - but he kept pushing for me to do it. What really upsets me is then-- he charges me extra 'labor' time for "Discussing options!" I will not give any business to Metro ever again.

Met with Larry Lester for quote on several garage doors. We had an initial meeting and he said he would need a few days to prepare the quote. Afterwards he missed several deadlines, failed to return calls and when he ultimately did provide a quote, he showed up without having prepared anything and put it together in front of us. To top it off, the quote was extremely high relative to other Garage Door Co's we found on Angie's List. Go elsewhere ....

I called early in the morning. I was offered same-day service, either the same morning or the afternoon. I choose the 1-5PM time slot and the technician arrived at 1PM. He listened carefully and non-judgmentally to my tale of woe, took care of the immediate problem, did some preventative maintenance, made suggestions for cosmetic repairs, and left information/recommendations for a replacement door, and was one the way by 1:30. We have used Metro in the past, and will continue to use them.
Description of Work: Someone backed into garage door (at low speed), which cracked the bottom wood frame, and lightly dented the metal support. The door would lower, then immediately reopen. To repair, the sensors were realigned. The technician also noticed that the chain and spring were loose, so he tightened them, resulting in much quieter operation of the unit. He gave me a brochure recommending a new door, but with an appropriate amount of "sell" - not too much pressure.

The keyless entry pad was 16 years old and was unreliable. I called Ridge Door and Service after closing time and left a message. Metro Garage Door has taken over Ridge Door's customers since they retired and closed. A Rep called me early the next morning and I was able to set up an appointment for that day. Their technician arrived within the 4 hour window we had agreed on. He checked over the old system and agreed that it needed replacing. He installed the new Keyless entry and generally checked out the doors operation. It was a pleasant company to work with, and they certainly are prompt and reliable.
Description of Work: Outdoor keyless entry working inconsistently. Had it replaced.

Phoned at 9AM. Metro promised a call back within an hour to schedule. Received call and service person (Chad) was here at 10:15. He replaced springs and oiled screw drive for opener. Chad was professional, courteous, and most importantly, repaired the problem. My experience was very positive.

I've been a customer of Metro Garage Door for about twenty years, and this is the first time they haven't been able to solve a problem, which I understand is a common one for older machines. I'm pleased with their prompt response, their persistence, and the cost adjustment they made.
Description of Work: Metro replaced a light fixture and sold me two new remotes for a 1992 machine. Afterwards the door started opening unexpectedly. Techs came out on two successive days to fix the problem, but it persisted. On the fourth visit they installed a new opener.

I'm pleased and impressed. I actually was leaning toward another company, based on reviews here on the list, but wanted to get quotes from a couple others. When I called Metro I was surprised that they had a time slot available almost right away, so I went ahead and scheduled. Unfortunately, since this was in a sense a change of plans, I forgot to mention the coupon so paid a bit more than I needed to. My fault. They gave me a four-hour window, 10am-2pm, and ended up coming out close to the beginning of that window. They asked if I wanted a call to let me know when he was on his way, and I did. The tech called when he was 30 minutes away, and arrived on schedule. The tech wasn't the friendliest guy in the world. I could tell he wanted to get on with the job and get finished and move on. He was polite and professional, though, so that's fine by me. I'm sure these guys have a busy day. It only took about 20 minutes from start to finish. After installing and tensioning the new springs, he lubed all the wheels and hinges. Apparently they needed it because the door is smoother and quieter than I've ever known. Not sure what to say about price because this is the first company of the three I called that actually answered the phone, so I didn't get any other quotes. I'm guessing the springs themselves were around half the cost, so I don't think the labor charge was excessive. At this time, I was just too busy with other work to research the parts, tools, and work involved to try to do this myself, so it was a good value for me.
Description of Work: Replaced two overhead garage door torsion springs. Also lubricated all the wheels and hinges on the door.

They were very friendly and prompt to make an appointment, arrived on time. I was unhappy with the way I felt rushed into a decision. They charge a $45 trip fee, $25 each 15 min there after..which is fair and fine. But when I found out they were unable to fix the one I have, they told me a needed a new one. I said, well then I'd have to pay the $45 and look around because I have no idea how much these things cost new/install/etc. He told me that would be a waste of time and money because I've already paid for them to come out, if I decide I want it from them, I would have to repay for them to come out again to install a new one. I'm not comfortable spending $430 without looking into it. I asked about different models, was basically given one option (the one he already had in his truck). I tried to make a quick decision...just assumed that they had a good rep on here, so they must be good and go for it...I guess that is how much it's going to cost? who knows? According to him, I was going to pay more getting someone else out and they were the going rate. So I said go ahead. I realized about 10 into it our home warranty would cover it so I asked him to stop. He was very polite about that, really he was a nice guy, so I was charged for 15 min work and the $45 trip charge, totally $70. Had I gone through with it, it would have been $430 for a new garage door opener and a new key pad . They should give people the choice of more than 1 model, lord knows they make more and if they were confident in their work and prices, give people time to read some reviews of the 1 product they do offer (again, I'm sure they have more than 1 option, I just was not presented with those). No one should just spend $400 just like that to avoid a trip charge again. If it turns out someone news a new garage door opener, they should have give you a list of several options and time to decide, time to look into which product was best for you. I wasn't given that. I would not deal with them again because a company never gets return business by bullying people into spending money on the spot. ***Update*** I called someplace else. They fixed the problem for $40 (no trip charge) and 2 yrs later, I have the same working garage door opener. I'm so glad I didn't fall for the forced sale of $450 garage door opener. They just didn't know how to fix it right. That was going to cost me $450.

I'll try another company next time.
Description of Work: I called 2 other providers to get quotes over the phone and each of them were cheaper than Metro, but they couldn't do the work until the next day. I went ahead with Metro and I was surprised when they wanted to charge $189 for the 2 springs and then they said it was goint to be an additional $69 for the cables - (which by the way are included in the competitors quote). They also had some some deal for 2 springs, cables and 10 pins for $299 so I went ahead with that. My advise would be to make sure you get a quote over the phone and understand what is included. For a job that took less than 1 hour to cost $299 dollars, I would have expected a bit more. They could have at least looked at my other garage door and spent 5 minutes on any adjustments or lubrication. It would have been easy to exceed my expectations, but they only did what was necessary.

Do not work with this company! We were a repeat customer but will not go back again. Summary: I contacted the company the evening of Friday 11/6/09 because the garage door would not open. I scheduled a repair for between 8am and 2pm the next day. No one showed up as of 2:30 and I contacted the company. The customer service rep was very unresponsive and said if I was in the system I should just wait. She had no way to check the techs schedule or to follow up with the tech so I was stuck. I waited and called back an hour later. Again, same response. I explained that I had called the night before and that I had been home all day and that no one had showed up. The rep could not answer whether or not anyone would show and when I asked for the procedure for following up was basically told to wait until 5:00 and then try again. As of 5:00pm I called back and was told that no one at that number could help me. I asked to speak to the manager on duty and was able to get some assistance. Turns out one of the dispatchers didn't report for work on Saturday morning and a whole bunch of service requests never made it to the techs. I wish I would have been told this the first time I called! I was put on a list of people who would be contacted by a service tech to reschedule. The service tech I spoke with was the best part of the experience and is the reason I'm not giving the company an even lower grade. He calmly explained what happened. I asked if I could get on the list for Sunday -- I could but only it I paid the EMERGENCY FEE which would be $400 MORE. I explained my situation and how no one had showed and the frustration I experienced. He said that he had spoken with the OWNER and that he was not willing to service on Sunday for the Saturday fee. Basically, I was out of luck. So I took off work on Monday am to be there for the tech. The tech who came was fine, I explained the situation, he was sympathetic, but when I asked about discounts etc...it was a no go. There was NO effort to try and keep me as a customer and we are REPEAT customers. The icing on the cake was when the tech said that someone had installed the wrong part on the door -- well, guess what, that someone was Metro Garage Door. Do yourself a favor and avoid headaches, hassles and disrespect by taking your business elsewhere. The fact that I was an Angie's List customer (which I mentioned several times through my interactions) didn't mean a thing. This company cares more about the bottom line than pleasing customers. There are plenty of other vendors to choose from and I recommend that you do.

Response from Metro Garage Door Co
We called her on 12/21/2009 and heard her account of their service experience with our company on Nov. 7th. We apologized for the delay in getting their garage door problem addressed. As it turned out this day was a very unique for us since one of our employees who has been very dependable in showing up (note he was to have been the only one in the office for that day) did not show up that day and also didn't call anyone to let us know of his absence. We discovered the problem later in the day and managed to recover the schedule for other customers affected. Unfortunately, their order was over looked until they called late that day. We apologized for the delay and confusion we caused for them and offered a discount for the service charges they eventually paid when they were served on that following Monday. Instead, they requested the discount be applied to a new garage door they plan to purchase in early 2010. We agreed that would be fine with us and that we really appreciate their giving us another chance to help them with their garage door needs. This matter has been addressed now and we look forward to helping them after the Holidays with their new garage door.

A spring had broken over the weekend. I called first thing Monday morning, and Metro got someone out that day. He recommended replacing both springs, which I agreed with, and offered a 23-pt. maintenance and safety check. The door opener had not been closing reliably (was very recently installed) as it would close partway and then seem to "catch" or meet too much resistance, at which point the safety mechanism would reverse it open. After the tightening of a couple hinges, lubrication, and adjustments, the door opener now runs very smoothly. More comprehensive work was recommended (replace rollers and lift cables), but I expect to replace the entire door in a few years, so decided to hold off. Overall, I was very satisfied. The spring replacement was done reasonably and the 23-pt. maintenance resolved the issues with it not closing reliably. The only drawback was that my printer was broken so I couldn't print out the Angie's List coupon. I could show it on the screen, but he needed a hardcopy. However, that was only a $9 difference and my fault, not theirs. The price was still reasonable and comparable to advertised rates I saw from other companies.

The overall experience was easy. This company knows what they are doing plain and simply.
Description of Work: I visited the showroom, which was very helpful to see how the joints of the frame fit together, and to see the texture of the doors. A person came out to measure our garage door, I paid a deposit for a special order door. I was told it would take 2 weeks to receive. In two weeks I was called to schedule the installation. They were very flexible to my schedule. The installer arrived on time, installed the door within the time he estimated. The existing garage door opener was reattached to the new door. The existing door was removed. The installer was very helpful in explaining things.

They have a website where you can see what all they have to offer and we were able to compare them to competitor's. The first employee was great and he didn't try to over sell me. He was honest with me and let me know how urgent the repair was. He showed me where the doors were rotting because they are so old. He was really great. I did have some issues with the salesman; we placed our order and then had to call back to find out the status. When we called we found out our doors were on back order, it would have been nice if they called to let us know since we were operating with only one working door. When we decided we wanted to have them replaced someone else came out to do a minor adjustment that I could have done myself but was afraid. It took him two seconds to do this and they charged us an $80 service fee. It seemed like the first guy was more service oriented, but the second guy seemed like he had to go out of his way to be there. Since we were getting ready to spend $3000 with them it would have been nice if they could have waived that service fee, especially for the small amount of work they did for it. I am not upset with them and I would use them again; I have no complaints with the service at all, I just wish the prcoess happened a little differently.

I called to make an appointment for a sales person to come look at my garage set up and to give me an estimate for a new, insulated garage door. The receptionist scheduled me for an appointment in a reasonable amount of time. The sales person arrived on time and was very professional during the appointment. He was very polite, knowledgeable and made good suggestions about what doors might be best for my situation. He left me with a brochure for one of the two products he recommended, but said he would mail me the second product brochure along with his estimate. Three weeks went by and I never received anything from him. I called the company and explained the situation to the receptionist because I wanted to purchase the second garage door he recommended to me. She said she would give him the message and that he would call me. Three more weeks went by and I never heard from him or the company. I called again because I really wanted to purchase the door from them. I told the receptionist the situation, that I had already called another time and that I wanted to purchase a door from them. She said she would give him the message and that he would call me. I never heard from them. At that point I gave up and am going to purchase my new door from another company that wants and needs the business.

Have used Metro on previous occasions, having located them through Angie's originally, and trust their quality performance. Wanted to add the opener to the third stall door, which he did promptly. While he was there, I showed him the rust beginning on the bottom of the larger door due to an aged rubber seal across the bottom. The track holding the seal was deteriorating. The manufacture of the door is no longer in business and the door could not be matched, which would mean a costly and unnecessary replacement of both doors. He provided an aluminum base with track that attaches to the bottom of the door and the new seal slid in beautifully, costing under $200 for materials and labor. I will call on Metro again when a need arises.

Company retained to fix garage door. Arrived promptly same day. Agent replaced springs, suggested new cables. After the work was ?completed?, the agent advised that the door was working well and all was in good order. Agent did not mention the possible need for or offer to make other repairs. After receiving payment, the agent left customer various papers including a warranty and a receipt. He did not mention that a disclaimer the service warranty had been added to the receipt. Less than a week later the operating unit pulled out from the wall where it was attached. The company indicated that it would charge for a follow up service call to check and adjust the spring tension. The company compounded the problem by not looking into matter or explaining why the agent did not mention additional needed repairs or the added disclaimer to the customer. If the agent thought that further repairs were advisable - he should have mentioned them to the customer at the time the initial repair was being done so that any additional work could have been completed then. Was he in too big a rush? For example, is there a reason that he would go to the work of listing a missing standard size (25 cent) nut as a basis for a service warranty disclaimer but not mention it to the customer or, better yet, simply replace it when repairing the door? Agent initially quoted a higher estimated price for the springs than the company. He promptly adjusted the quote when the customer called the company to confirm the lower price before authorizing the work. Check price quotes carefully.
