Dr Sweep

The service man who came to my house was Rob Gray.He was very friendly and professional. He arrived within the time that he called and told me he would.When I let him in he greeted me with a handshake and a nice smile.He looked over the fireplace that I wanted serviced and then brought in what he needed in the house.He covered a large area in front of my fireplace and then removed everything in the fireplace and took the basket and logs outside. He cleaned out the fireplace completely and then put down new rocks on the floor of the fireplace. He thoroughly cleaned all of the logs,basket and pilot light -which had given up problems last winter by going out . Those items were over 17 years old and our fireplace is used daily during winter months. The logs were completely black and I was actually worried everything would just disintegrate when Rob tried to clean them. When he was all done he asked me to take a look and make sure everything was ok. I could not believe that the logs actually looked like logs again and had been very nicely arranged in the basket. The inside of the fireplace looked neat and clean and the pilot had a good flame. After he removed all of his work items -you would never have known that such a dirty job had been performed!! I was very happy with Rob and my fireplace looks great!! I would definitely use this company again and would recommend them to others.

Cleaned the gutters, but did so while I was at work. Experienced no issues that I was aware of at the time. I later discovered a weak area of the roof that had been dented by a heel, but no way of knowing if it was Dr. Sweep (no one said anything about having this occur during cleaning, though I am not sure when else it may have occurred). If one of the workers was on the roof, they might not even have noticed this, though I would hope for some alert to the situation if they did. Have to give them the benefit of the doubt, as they seem to have done a good job on the gutters.

I was really pleased with how prompt Bill was to arrive and that he did his work quickly. I especially appreciated his thorough explanation about using the fireplace. This is the first home we have a gas fireplace and we were a bit nervous about using it. Bill gave me a complete demonstation and also watched while I opened the flue, turned on the flame to be sure that I knew what I was doing. We now make lots more use of the fire and love it!

The company called us to make an appointment within a few days of our purchase of the deal. They gave a timeframe of 9 am - 1 pm for arrival, with a promise to call ahead of their arrival. We got a call from Devon (hope I remembered his name correctly) at around 1:30 that he was almost at our home. He was very nice and friendly, and got the job done efficiently. There was no mess from the gutters for me to clean up when he was done - he handled it all. Although it hasn't rained yet to make sure everything flows smoothly down the downspouts, I was pretty pleased with the results. Would hire them again.

Although it was a nasty day, the person showed up with in the time frame they gave us and the work was completed without any difficulties.

Same details to follow - "DR SWEEP" SAVED OUR LIVES! I'm not just giving a rave review here... this service, most likely, saved our lives - our home - possibly the homes of our neighbors! THANK YOU, RAY!! We purchased Gutter Cleaning AND Chimney Inspection/Cleaning and Ray from "Dr Sweep" showed up to do them both same day. First Ray inspected our fireplace/chimney and pointed out - VERY concerned - that the outside bubbling and buckling of the siding on our chimney indicated a number of small "chimney fires" that had been going on there. Any one of these, or another one, could have burned our house to the ground!!!! We had rented our house out for 3 years and since returning felt we needed an overall inspection before Winter. We were shocked and frightened and very glad that Ray took the time to show us everything and all the evidence. His 'gutter cleaning' job was also BEYOND EXCELLENT (cleaned AND made sure the gutter was securely fastened to the house in loose places) but we will be forever grateful that his warnings probably saved our home and our lives. All of the homes in our sub are approx the same age, with fireplaces & chimneys, so we are passing the "Dr Sweep" information and Ray's name specifically around to our neighbors for inspection. Not completely done upon first visit, but corrected completely to full satisfaction with a second visit.

Not an easy job to do. Did good work. Was worried about some pine needles on my 14 year old truck!

Job was done well when it was finally completed.

He was punctual, polite and professional. I got a full explanation of what needed repairs and why.

I received a call approx. one week after purchasing the deal. Made arrangements for gutter cleaning to be done on 11-15-12 between 9am and 1pm. I told the caller that the house was a two story house so they could bring the appropriate ladder. I wasn't told at that time that there would be any "surcharges" for a two story house. Rob called about 10:30am on the 15th and said he was running late and would be there between 1:00 and 2:00pm. No big deal. When I asked him if he knew it was a two story house (wanting to make sure he had a tall enough ladder) he said that a two story house would cost more money, At first he said it would be about $250.00 (!!!) and when I told him it was a small duplex no more than 1000 sq. ft. on each floor he said probably about $150.00. He would assess the situation when he got there. When he arrived he said sure enough it would cost more money - $150.00. I said the ad said nothing about costing more money because it was a two story house, only if it was a house larger than 2500 sq. ft. He said yes, that was a mistake his boss made. When I asked why it was so much more he said because it was more dangerous two stories up. I agreed to pay the $150.00 because it needed to be done and I wouldn't know how to get my $95.00 back from Angie's List. The job was done in about 45 minutes from a 26 ft. ladder. Rob was nice enough to tell me I had a problem with the gutters mounted on the west side of the house. He was very polite while we were doing business. However, I do feel like I was terribly mislead by the ad since it did not mention any more charges for a two story house. I would not hire them again or refer anyone to them because I just don't feel I got a straight deal. If the add said $150.00 for a two story home I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Once we heard from the company, they showed up exactly on time. He was polite and kept everything clean. We appreciated their service.

Not much to tell. It was only about a third of the cost I've paid others in the past, and they did a great job.

Very disappointed. The gas log fire was not improved and the esthetics of the ceramic logs placement was poor. I had to redo the job myself.

Everything went well; I give them all A's except a B for responsiveness, as it took a long time between the time I called to set up the appointment and the actual call back from them. We are satisfied with the work and would recommend this company.

The office staff that scheduled my work was very pleasant to work with and their scheduling was very flexible to fit my schedule. The guys arrived within their time range went right to work, finished on time and cleaned up and checked with me that everything was o.k.. and left. That's my kind of service. I will certainly use them again if the opportunity presents itself.

Connor showed up on time and was very respectful. He cleaned the gutters and also cleaned the ground where all the leaves had been blown. It was all-around a good experience.

Long story short, the contractor put sand in the burner box of our unit. We use propane gas. I have always been told not to use sand with propane because propane is heavier than natural gas. It does not get through the sand as well. The contractor lit the fire place and the gas was pooling at the burner fitting (location of air mixer on propane units). He said we had a leak and needed a separate service call. I did some checking and confirmed that sand is not used with propane. I contacted Dr. Sweep and explained the issue, requesting the follow-up service call. They sent their expert. I was not at home. I spoke with him on the phone. He said that sand was fine and glued the air mixer shut. I downloaded the manufacturer?s owner?s manual. Here is a direct quote from the manual -- in bold italic print ?Never use sand in a burner designated for use with propane gas? I emailed the manufacturer Response from the manufacturer ( RH Peterson Co.) ?Good Afternoon Jeff,? "You are correct to be concerned. Sand should not be used with propane, at least as far as I have learned here at Peterson. It is too dense, and causes the propane to back up, forcing it out of the air mixer. The air mixer should not be ?sealed.? It is an adjustable device, and sealing it would defeat the purpose. I don?t have any specific information about Mr. Sweep, but you can check" Bottom-line: Now I know our fireplace is unsafe. We shut off the gas. If I ever decide to use it, I will have to buy a new burner assembly so that I have a functioning air mixer. It is very disappointing especially since my concerns were ignored. I would be fine with it, if I had been wrong, but how could disabling the manufacturer's design ever be the ideal solution.

Used Angie's List special deal ($74) for this service. Very professional - arrived promptly, put down tarps to protect carpeting.

They came out when they were supposed to but, admittedly, did not complete the job. They are supposed to come back out next week to do it. I am awaiting their return.

It went well. The company didn't show up the first day but did promptly reschedule after I contacted them.

I called few times to schedule an appointment with them. They told me that they will call me back, but they never did.
