He removed the back panel and saw that more than 2 inches of ice had built up behind that panel. He asked for a towel which I brought to him. During the repair he mistakenly dropped long metal parts onto the hickory flooring. When he was done, I asked if the fridge would get cold in time to put food in it for a party the next day. He said yes, and that he'd had it on defrost mode but that he would turn it back to cool. He then left. That evening, we found saturated ceiling tiles in the room right below the fridge from leaking water. We mopped an amount of water from in front of the fridge and noticed that some of the hickory planks had cupped from the water. The next morning, upon getting ready to leave, we noticed a puddle in front of the fridge. We mopped it up and saw that the floor boards on the new hickory flooring were damaged more. We called Michigan Appliance very concerned about whether we should expect more flooding and what we should do in terms of turning off the fridge or emptying a tray or whether a hose could have been broken in the back of the fridge. The company not only did not call back that day to address the urgent situation, they did not call back for 3 more day. When I spoke with them, they denied that the flooding had anything to do with their repairman. They also claimed that the repairman could not have known that an iced up machine might leak more water after the defrost system which had not been working was repaired. The service manager was asked to call and provide some help towards the cost of the flooring repair and at the very least not charge for the repair. Four days later and the manager has not only not called, but they have cashed the check. I could not and would not recommend Michigan Appliance Repair. They consistently have come out and given high end estimates for simple repairs and now they have caused extensive damage to my home because of a lack of professionalism and knowledge on the part of the person doing the repair. They denied responsibility in what was clearly damage caused be an oversight on the technician. The customer was not only not listened to but they damage was dismissed. The company claimed the appliance caused the flooding even though there was no leak and no water coming out of the machine before the repair was done and the ruined flooring was a direct result of the way the repair was done and due to the fact that he neglected to empty the tray or warn the customer that there could be flooding after he left. Please, we strongly advise against having this company come out to repair your appliances.
