Unprofessional!!!

Tony came out and looked at my leaking kitchen faucet for 3 minutes and informed me I needed a new faucet. $90. I purchased a new faucet and called them and they refused to install, claiming it had to be one of their own. Back and forth discussion with the 'fine' gentleman on the phone ended with him calling me a**hole and hanging up. Highly highly unprofessional outfit with questionable ethics on what they say and follow through. Do NOT recommend.

I don't usually write reviews, but Tony and DJ Murray Plumbing were such professionals I had to take the time to endorse them! My wife and I just moved to Ferndale from San Diego, CA and bought our first home. Its a gorgeous 100 year old home with so much character - but we quickly learned with the age of the home comes inevitable up keep and challenges. Though we had the home inspected before purchase, within one week of being in the house we noticed our basement was leaking from a pipe on the floor (that we were fairly certain was somehow connected to the sewer) after my wife had used our bath tub for the first time. Of course I was filled with anxiety and dread not knowing how much this disaster was going to cost us. I called D.J. Murray because they're magnet was left on our refrigerator and I am so happy that I did. Tony came out to our house right away and diagnosed the problem almost immediately. He was able to control the leak and explain to me exactly what had happened in terms I understood. He was very patient and thoroughly explained the procedure and up keep that I needed to do in the future to prevent this type of problem from reoccurring. Of course I expected a ridiculous bill to accompany his help, but I was surprised with how reasonable the cost was - even for my big problem. I had asked for the earliest appointment possible, and was told I was scheduled for 10am-noon, which was perfectly acceptable. "Dan" called, and seemed reluctant to commit to coming out to do the job. He ultimately agreed to come out after lunch, from 1-3PM. We're not able to use any water, but this was acceptable. Dan never showed up. I called him back directly, and asked if he could do the job 1st thing the next day. He said he needed to check his schedule, and never called back. Dan of DJ Murray is extremely unprofessional, and lazy. If he worked for me, I'd fire him.

Great arrived earlier than expected and finished the job.

After a single call, a chain of events unfolded such that within 24 hours the work was completed and the concrete foundation patch was drying. Fast, responsive service and they pulled a RO permit and had it inspected/passed on the same day, which says something about their relationship and professionalism with the city of Royal Oak. They also stuck with their original estimate when they discovered and fixed an additional potential future problem on another line. Thanks go out to Greg, the two Dans and Jody and Steve for a fast, professional job.

we had another company come out and snake the sewer line because of backup issues. Then the sewer backed up again and they came out with a video inspection up to 60ft and said the sewer line needed to be excavated at a cost of $3800. We called DJ Murray for a second opinion. They came out and video inspected the sewer line out to 100ft and said there were some root issues past 60ft but the pipes were still good. They owner came in and hydro jetted the line and suggested to put in rootx once a year. So far everything has been working great. DJ Murray was awesome and they saved me a lot of money by not excavating.

Here is my experience with D J Murray Plumbing. I have had my Royal Oak home I currently live in for 19 months. I tend to do most work myself, and only call professionals when something is beyond my capabilities. My house has a house trap, and when I first bought the house it was clogged and needed to be cleaned out, I used Roto Rooter. This weekend, the main sewer line was again clogged and backing up through the basement floor drain. I attempted to clean out the sewer line myself with an equipment rental from Home Depot but was unsuccessful because I couldn't get the snake to make the turn at the trap. I called DJ Murray at about noon and was told they'd be out in about an hour and a half. An hour and a half later, they called to say they'd be there at about 3. They arrived at 3:30. I informed him that I'd lost a bit from my rental in the pipe, and after trying to grab it with his equipment he said I'd have to suck the water out with a shop vac, retrieve the bit myself before he could proceed, and to call and he'd come back. I had done so after about 30 minutes, I called, he said he would come after the job he was on. 2 hours later (about 6:30 PM) I called, I was told I'd have to sign a waiver and if that was okay he'd be out in 30 to 40 minutes. He was finishing a job, they said, right around the corner from me. 2 hours later I called again. This time, they started telling me they weren't comfortable cleaning out the drain, they're afraid their equipment might get stuck, and they'd only proceed if I agreed to a $2600 installation of a proper cleanout outside the house. At this point, I called Nelson plumbing (9:10) and reached their answering service. A plumber returned my call at 9:13. At 9:25 they arrived. They were done with my routine sewer line cleaning at 9:35. So in summary, my experience has been that 8 hours has been wasted on an emergency service call I've made, and D J Murray demonstrated less competence than Roto Rooter, they tried to upsell me when all I needed was a 10 minute routine maintenance. I ended up spending $250. D J Murray originally quoted $185-$225.

With in about an hour they were done and cleaned up. My basement water issues have been resolved for a lot less than I had anticipated. Both Dan and Tony were great to work with. I will recommend DJ Murray Plumbing to anyone that has any plumbing issues, including wet basements. I had a different plumbing company come out to resolve my problem before contacting DJ Murray, and was told by that company's plumber that my basement water issues had nothing to do with my drainage system and that I needed a waterproofing company. I'm fortunate to have been given DJ Murray Plumbing as a recommendation to solve my water problems. They saved me thousands of dollars in unneeded waterproofing expense.

They arrived when they said and finished in a reasonable amount of time. They have always responded quickly when called.

Came out right away .Fixed the problem . This is the second time I've used them . I'm very satisfied .

We called D.J. Murray Plumbing quite a while ago, before I joined Angie's List. However, when a neighbor recently asked if we could recommend a plumber, I went back in my records to find D. J. Murray's name, because they impressed me with their professionalism and efficiency. I haven't needed a plumber since, but I would call them again.

We thought we had a leak, but they came and did a thorough investigation and determined our washer had leaked. They were professional and courteous. My only complaint was they were VERY late. They were supposed to show up between 9-11AM, called at 11:30, said, they were coming in a half hour and did not show up until 12:30PM. They apologized and their service was excellent, so it can be forgiven.

The main sewer line was clogged. He snaked it out, getting our floor, rug, back of the sofa, wall, etc. dirty in the process - did not have a tub or anything else to keep the dirty water from getting all over the place, nor did he clean up after himself. He showed me tree roots and said the snake punched a hole through it so water flowed a little, but we still could not use the dishwasher, shower, etc. He said our only option was a trench outside to access the line with a root cutter, which he could do for several thousand dollars; he would include the price of that day's work in if we agreed right away. The next day, another plumber was able to unclog it for the same price with an expandable cutter. When I called DJ Murray to ask for at least a partial refund, they said they would get back to me; they have failed to return this and subsequent phone calls.

Obtained 3 estimates. Murray seemed more interested in doing the work. Very punctual and workers were friendly and hard working. They finished in one day. The pile of left over dirt was unsightly and a friend suggested that they should have removed the dirt from my property but otherwise I am very satisfied with everything.

The work and responsiveness were excellent.

Workers were pleasant and respectful. Price initially quoted was higher than when I called back later. Charged an extra $75 when they were there because they didn't realize they needed a part.

They were professional and told me what was going on. They would tell me what they were going to do before they did it.

Well, they came out on a Sunday and they fixed it for me. It is all fine now. They did a good job. The man had everything that he needed to fix it and I was happy. This is not a real big company, but there is more than one person working for him. I have no complaints and I would hire them again.

DJ Murray snaked my main sewer line when I first moved into my house and brought up LOTS of tree roots (probably about the size of two industrial garbage bags). The employee who snaked the line also ran a camera thru at the end and said there was a blockage that he couldn't get thru. He also stated that the drain would probably back up again in a few weeks and that I should replace my main line for $8,500. Well, the line lasted for a couple of more months before backing up. I decided to use a different plumber (Nelson Brothers) to see if I got the same recommendation to replace my line. Nelson Brothers was able to snake thru the entire line! They also told me that they didn't recommend replacing the line. After that experience, I have strong misgivings on any recommendation DJ Murray gives. Seems like they are more in the business of replacing main sewer lines than maintaining them. Definitely don't have their customers financial interests in mind.
