They sent a service rep out the same day, which was nice. The service rep suggested that because the damage was minimal and we probably wouldn?t meet our deductible we not file a claim with the insurance company and make it a ?cash deal?. Due to my own naivety, I did not ask for a written estimate for the services. This service rep made it seem like we had such minimal damage that it was no biggie. He said they would drop of two fans and a dehumidifier the next day and that he charged about $20/day for fan rental. He sent a roofer out to the home that day to remove the ice dams directly in front of the problem area to prevent the water from continuing to come in. The roofers were great, very courteous and upfront about pricing. They told me it would be $200 to remove the ice dams. I thought this price was very fair. The next Monday, they drop two fans and a dehumidifier off at the house. It takes about 15 minutes to bring them into the house and set them up. The next day they come back and tell us that the room is still damp and that we need to keep the equipment there another day. On Wednesday, I call the service rep and ask him if they can pick up the equipment. A week later we receive a bill for $675. If you subtract the $200 charge for the roofing services that leaves $475, which is a highly inflated price for renting two fans and a dehumidifier for 48 hours. When I called and asked for a detailed explanation of the services, because one was NOT included with the bill, they sent me an invoice detailing charges for an ?emergency service call?, 3 days of equipment rental and 4.8 hours of equipment set up, take down and monitoring. Now, we understand that there are fees attached to these types of services and we are willing to pay fair prices for them. I have no problem with a fan rental charge, but I did not appreciate being charged for 3 days of rental time when the equipment was in our home for less than 48 hours. Additionally, to charge us for 4.8 hrs of equipment set up, take down and monitoring is ridiculous considering it took less than an hour for those services. When I called and asked the service rep about these charges, he was rude and defensive. He told me that he charged us for 3 days of equipment rental because it was a per day charge. This seems a bit unethical to me considering they picked the equipment up at our home on Wednesday before noon and could have dropped it off at another home and charged them for a full day?s rental as well. When I asked about the 4.8 hours of equipment set up/take down I was told that it also included drive time (which is fine) and that they charge for an hour minimum of drive time to the location. This is equally as ridiculous considering Ron's is 9 miles from our home. Lastly, we were charged a great deal of money for an Emergency Service Call. If it was truly an "emergency" that deserved emergency fees attached to it, someone should have been to the house on Friday with the equipment.
