Ryan got back to me on the day I contacted him and I had an estimate that evening. Our house is small, but it is a corner lot with a fence that prevents them from getting the big equipment into the back yard, so the price seemed reasonable (and in line with a few other estimates). So far the lawn looks great and they are very easy to work with. mow

They came through with flying colors. They are in and out. They clean up after themselves. They are really good and I keep using them.

Addendum 10/11/2011 - RS made it right and came out with new equipment to make the lawn flat enough to be mowed and at no extra charge to me. I'd also like to add that Ryan and his crews have been cutting my grass all season and they've always done a good job. Ryan is sometimes a bit hard to get in touch with but when he does call back he takes care of any issues. The company continues to grow and there's a reason for that - the owner is honest and cares about his business and I hope to work with them to complete the new landscaping in the spring. 10/8/2011 The crew arrived in plenty of time to get the job done, and were very courteous. The shrubs came out fine, the hedges in the back had been trimmed and they had the trees down but one of the stumps was still a few feet high when Ryan came by to pick up the check. He had quoted me $1400 over the phone a month ago but asked for $1600, which I mentioned but since the job seemed to be going along well I paid him the $1600 after making sure the he knew that I wanted the stumps left low enough for them to be able to mow over them as they have been cutting my grass this season. He assured me that they would be able to mow over them, but when the crew knocked at the door and said they were done the last stump was still a few inches higher than what they could mow over, although they had covered it pretty well with clippings. When I went out to check it the big mound that was there wasn't even a half inch deep over the stump and they agreed that they could not mow over it. Then they called and spoke to Ryan and told me that he said he had 'already talked to me about that". As I noted before when he was here the stump was still a few feet high and during the conversation I had with him I made a point of telling him that I wanted it 'mowable' and he assured me that it would be so I gave him the check. When I called him he didn't answer although his crew called him less than 10 minutes earlier and got him on the phone right away. The crew left after telling me there was nothing they could do to fix it and I'm still waiting to hear from Ryan and hoping that he'll make this right. Addendum 10/9/2011: I got a voicemail from Ryan this morning telling me that he will have a crew here tomorrow to make it right. He did say that it wasn't done appropriately so I'm hoping this will all work out.

For various reasons I have not properly kept up with the maintenance of my yard. When R.S. Lawncare came over Ryan worked with me on my concerns to get my front yard back in shape. On the south side of my house, I wanted the flowerbed widened so I could make just two passes when cutting the lawn (used to be three, a pain). On the north side, weeds were a constant problem and I will eventually be getting rid of the flowerbed when I replace my driveway. The prior owner had installed timbers as edging on both sides but no black edging or weed fabric so that weeds & grass just kept growing underneath. In the front of the house, the prior owner had used fieldstone to build up an edge that over time just fell down. There was no weed fabric so weeding was a constant job. The line of the edging curve was also very sharp and hard for me to maneuver with the lawnmower. I also have a gas light and a serviceberry tree that had weeds and grass growing through the old mulch. The job included removing the timbers, reworking the landscape line, installing black edging, weed fabric, transplanting some daylillies, placement of the same fieldstone in a single layer along the black edging then installation of soaker hose and mulch. The same was done around the gas light and tree. Edging of my lawn was added in so that the whole look would be complete. I talked with Ryan on Thursday and he had his crew over on Saturday. They were prompt, thorough and respectful Ryan gave me his opinion based on his experience. He was also willing to do what I wanted such as having both the black edging and the fieldstone. House looks great and it make me feel great seeing my house looking great instead of the overgrown weeds. In the spring I will be calling him again to start work on the backyard!

Note: Ryan is only willing to work in the Livonia area. I live in Plymouth and he said it wasn't worth his time to drive a few miles because he'd lose out on business he could have had closer to his home. I respect his decision, but from a customer perspective it felt like a brush-off and I was disappointed that this information isn't posted on Angie's List.

Choosing RS Lawn Care is the best decision I ever made

They do a nice job and I am happy with them. Everything was done when I got home and it looks like they did really nice work. I was pleasantly surprised about how nice it looks. I think it is the best that it has ever looked; the lawn and bushes are nicely trimmed, the flowers look great, and everything is very nice. I thought $150 seemed like a lot for having my bushes trimmed but now that I’ve seen it I think it was probably just the right amount. They aren't cheap but they aren't unreasonable.

They were fine overall, but Ryan is not very professional on the phone. When I had a question, I felt like I was wasting his time.

They were super. They took care of making sure my dogs did not get out of my gate in the backyard.

The estimator was more than willing to work with me on the design and very patiently measured and re-measured the area so as to incorporate what I wanted with what was practical. The crew arrived before the promised time and got right to work. By noon, they had begun the paving process and by 7:30pm they were totally finished with what amounted to a giant jigsaw puzzle of a paving job. Although cleanup was not the best I've seen, they did come back and make it right, even fixing a small problem at the end of one path. They were courteous and minimally invasive to the rest of the yard/house. I will use this company again in the future.

They guarantee to be here the day they say. They are quick, neat, and they do a good job. Their prices are reasonable as well. They are professional and my yard looks great when they are finished. They are also very responsive if there are any problems.

Ryan D. Shiplett is a professional at his service from the presentation to the service. He provided us with a service contract and is very responsible. He did however, have to raise his price when there was a gas crisis, but only a dollar a week.
