Birmingham Geek

The pros at Birmingham Geek are great. They have helped me with computer glitches on a number of occasions. They have a great, convenient shop in downtown Birmingham. They have always quickly resolved my issues.

I brought my HP desktop computer tower in to Birmingham Geek's business place in downtown Birmingham for repair. With its location in downtown Bham and no parking lot, I was initially concerned about where I was going to park and how far I'd have to carry my computer tower. But both on drop off and pick up, I was able to find a parking spot just outside of the door, so that was not an issue. I was greeted by a very nice man who asked me specific questions to try to identify what was going on with my computer (guess they needed something more to go on besides my initial description of and quot;it's broken.and quot;) I could not open any e-mail attachments and I could not open or download any .exe files. They fixed it for the initial price quoted ($120.00) by somehow copying my files into a new user ID (that they named BGeek). I'm not clear if they truly fixed what was wrong or just created a work-around with this new user ID. But, it has been almost a month now and my computer is working fine. I was a little disappointed that they weren't able to tell me anything more than and quot;there was lots of malware and trojansand quot; on the computer -- I was hoping for something more specific (like the file that was downloaded contained X virus or the website that was visited on this day at this time was the culprit). So I am not able to tell whether it was something I inadvertently did or something that the teenage kids of weekend houseguests had infected me with when they used my computer. So I will never know the origin of my problems. The only negative was something that didn't affect me as a customer but that I observed - another employee (I heard her being called Nora) was too busy working on her own stuff to answer the phone and when someone else told her a customer was calling to check on his computer she rolled her eyes at having to take the call. To be fair, it could have been someone who was a pain in the butt or who called every 15 minutes - but it was unprofessional of her, IMHO. When I came back to pick up my computer, the man who took care of my order had to remind and quot;Noraand quot; at least three times to apologize to another customer who was on the phone for the delay in the repair (which she never did). So, while my experience was just fine, and most importantly my computer works well now, if I recommended this business to anyone I would caution them to ask for someone else to assist them besides Nora.

No attempt was ever made to contact me. No explanation was ever offered. No apology was offered. I didn't push the matter as I wanted my money back.

They were great, I would recommend them definitely. They were very accommodating. They went and picked up something they needed for the computer, I asked if they could pick it up and they did it for a very nominal charge. I thought they were great as is.

They were professional and very good. They showed up and did what they were supposed to do. I will use them again in the future.
