First Class Tile

We hired Mark McCoy to finish tiling the bathrooms of our new home after the original contractor walked off the job (because he was arrested and incarcerated!) We had used Mark before and had been happy with his work. He walked the house, saw exactly what was left to be done and gave us a favorable price quote to complete all the tile work. He started out great, but when he got to the meticulous work of the showers, he clearly was not up to the task. The tile was not installed correctly and, in many instances, looked terrible. He did not wipe thoroughly and, as a result, we have grout hazing which we will have to have professionally cleaned. Finally, he left the job without completing much of the bullnose. He had to wait until the doors were set, but he demanded full payment. We resisted, but he would not sign the waiver of lien without full payment, the title company would not disburse any payments without his waiver and we had other contractors who needed to get paid. We reluctantly paid him in full. Not surprisingly, he was slow to come back once we were ready for him to complete his work. He came back, worked two hours, then stormed off the job, leaving us angry voicemails that we were trying to take advantage of him and that he had only agreed to tile the showers, not to complete the floors/bullnose that we were asking him to do now. We reminded him that our agreement was for him to finish all tilework that had not been completed at the time we hired him. He told us to sue him. We are doing just that for the $700 we had to pay to have his work completed. Additionally, he left the jobsite in terrible condition and did not protect his work so that all of our grout has been contaminated by drywall dust and is no longer the correct color. Our original contractor (who is doing time) was far more professional and meticulous!

Everything turned out fine. They have not finished completely, but they have been good. They showed up on time and have great communication. Their prices are reasonable, and I have been happy with their work.
