CHARLIE THE HANDYMAN

I have found Charlie to be extremely honest, trustworthy, and reliable, with an integrity that seems rare these days. He comes when he says he is coming. His hourly pricing seems fair. His work seems well done. In the beginning, he was less well known perhaps and could be available the next day. Now, it can be a bit more of a wait. Doing the kitchen with Charlie was a massive project, It wasn't his usual type of project, I don't think, but it worked out great. We worked together, one day every week, all summer long. We gutted the kitchen, knocked down an interior wall and put up a header (after an engineer approved), prepped everything for the drywallers, ran electical, cut through the exterior brick wall to have a big new window put in, and when we got to the end, and it had to be finished in time for a big family celebration, he was very gracious and he came many days in a row, to help me get things done in time for the big day. (The scheduling issue was not his fault, the cabinets and countertops came in right at the end). Charlie strikes me as steady, calm, thoughtful and creative. He figures things out that other service people couldn't or wouldn't take the time to do.

Job was performed to my satisfaction.

The experience was very bad. He came in to carve our access to my garage to the attic. The work is just very sloppy. He did not trim edges. He also kind of wandered around the house to look for other projects. So, all in all, I did not have a very good experience.

He did a great job. We had rain on the day he fixed the first three posts and one post was too damp to prime. I called him back when the wood had dried out and I had a chance to prime it. He came over promptly to finish the job. I really appreciated his long range view (i.e. do a good job now and no one will have to worry about if for another 30 years!). Excellent job.

Charlie only works in the Ann Arbor area and doesn't give estimates. He does arrive on time and works very diligently to get the job done in a reasonable amount of time. He is very knowledgable and doesn't mind getting questions about how and why he's doing things a certain way. The quality of his work is excellent and he cleaned up very well at the end of the job so I had very little to do. I highly recommend Charlie and will definitely use him again.

He charges by the hour and was diligent and everything was satisfactory.

Overall the experience was positive. Charlie was here when he said he would be and was able to complete the job quickly. He charges by the hour so its great that he still gets the job done as quickly as he can. Its been a few months since he completed this job for us and the door still closes. We would definitely use him again for small home projects.
