The contractor pretty much was a disaster but the work was good with one exception the subcontractors were good. I wouldn’t go near him. His carpenter was good and the work the carpenter did was great. The contractor Mike who runs Town and Country is not good. He doesn’t keep his word and he lies a lot. He didn’t get things done in a timely fashion. He misquoted prices to me and he jacked up prices. His responsiveness was poor. He himself was never on time but his subcontractors were. When he was to stop by and check on work, he didn’t show up when he was supposed to. He would pull his subcontractors off the job and sometimes disappear for weeks at a time. He doubled the price on something’s that he said he was giving to me at the cost. I investigated and found out that the price were not what he quoted. I went to the source and found out what the prices were. In terms of what he had the tiling guy do in the kitchen, it was something that he screwed up on. The rest of the work was excellent. The painting was excellent and the carpentry was excellent. The electrical work and the plumbing was fine. The contractor was the problem. He cheats, he lies and he doesn’t keep his word. I hope that nobody has to deal with him. Working with the contractor of Town and Country was a nightmare but the finished product ended up being okay. I never did figure out on how many things he ripped me off. In the end when he gave me the final bill I refused to pay it. Some of subcontractors were punctual and some actually weren’t. The carpenter was always punctual and worked hard long hours. The rest of the subcontractors I never knew when they were going to show up. The contractor actually yelled at me twice. He had some issues going on. He was a maniac. It was a big mistake to hire him and I went on one person’s recommendation. They even told me that he can be a bit slow but that was an understatement. Once I was committed to him I didn’t know how to back out. As he did more and more work I was kind of stuck. The whole thing was supposed to take 2 to 4 weeks and I knew from previous experiences it had to be longer than that. In my head I figured couple of months and I think we were at it for 6 months. He still actually didn’t do something’s. I am trying to find another contractor for those things.
Description of Work: I used Town & Country Construction. It was an unfinished basement so he and his subcontractors refinished my basement. They put in a new set of stairs from the basement to the first floor. They also demolished some walls upstairs. They did my kitchen, some floors and made a new office space for me.
