Let me just say that Kitty in the billing office is very nice and accommodating. I spoke to a girl named Jeanne who set my appointment and put me into the closest cancellation time slot a week from the time that I called. I received paperwork for health history even though I had been seen by Dr. Noar two years earlier; no big deal, but on several places throughout the letter and history states: PLEASE ARRIVE PROMPTLY. . . THIS TIME HAS BEEN ALLOTTED TO YOU. Meaning. . . Please respect our time and our other patients time by not arriving be late or a No Show. I even received a reminder call. I didn't sleep well the night before worrying that I'd be late or hit traffic to make me late. As it was I was up by 4 a.m.and took an alternate route to be assured of a timely arrival. I pulled into their parking lot at 7:14 a.m. Walked in the office at 7:30 a.m.; there were already two patients there. By 7:40 the receptionist began calling patients and registering them. The two men were taken back almost immediately, but she told me, "They'll call for you shortly" - that was at 7:50a.m. Shortly never arrived! No one ever came out, the girls in the office giggled and played with their phones, no one ever came out to let me know when or if I'd be taken back or even a courteous "Hey, we're running behind but we'll be calling you in a few minutes" at 8:30 after waiting an hour in the MOST UNCOMFORTABLE IRON PATIO CHAIRS I left - I didn't even see the doctor at the APPOINTED TIME. Why do doctors and their office personnel behave like their time is more important than anyone else's?
Description of Work: I had an APPOINTMENT to diagnose upper GI pain.

I was pleased with the following aspects of my experience with Dr. Noar: - He was willing to perform an EGD and send the results to my own GI doctor, even though I wasn't established with him as a patient - He was willing to perform the EGD without anesthesia, which was important to me because I'm breastfeeding an infant - He took time to discuss my symptoms thoroughly before the procedure and was very forthright regarding his findings and proposed plan of action - His staff was very friendly, kind and helpful. Several of them raved about Dr. Noar and said he is their personal doctor. I was disappointed with the following: - I was the first appointment of the day, but even so, Dr. Noar didn't arrive onsite until after my scheduled appointment and then saw another patient first, so we were at least a half hour late in beginning the procedure. - His bedside manner was rather brusque and arrogant, which I've found to be true of most GI docs I've seen - He wanted me to begin treatment ASAP that is not compatible with breastfeeding, and I didn't feel he was understanding or supportive of my commitment to breastfeed my daughter for at least twelve months I have not followed up with my own GI doctor yet, but I have discussed Dr. Noar's findings and suggestions with a Hopkins allergist who did not agree with his suggestions. Time will tell who is right, but at this point, I don't have the greatest confidence in the treatment plan Dr. Noar suggested. If I need a follow up endoscopy and run into the same trouble with my insurance, I will go back to Dr. Noar for one more chance. But I will probably look for someone else if my next experience isn't any better. Incidentally, the actual procedure was nightmarish without anesthesia, but I don't imagine it's possible for any GI doc to make a procedure like that pleasant (or anything close!).
Description of Work: I saw Dr. Noar for an upper endoscopy (EGD) because my regular gastroenterologist performs his EGDs at a facility that my insurance doesn't cover.

I would like to first express my thanks for your kind comments. I cannot provide any details of your care as it would be violation of privacy rules in what may be a public forum. Please forgive the lateness, but I was forced to arrive late due to an unexpected emergency at the local hospital that required my immediate attention. You were in fact the first patient scheduled, and I have reviewed the nursing records of the day and you were in fact the first person treated that morning. While I certainly was understanding of your breastfeeding situation, it was my obligation to present the facts to you frankly, as you indicated that I did. As we discussed and as I documented in your discharge note, you had a serious medical condition that required immediate treatment. Our discussion was left with you to consider when you would be willing to initiate therapy given your desire to continue breastfeeding for 12 months. This is a decision that was left up to you, as it should have been. I would have been remiss if I had not emphasized the seriousness of your condition which is borne out not only by the findings during your endoscopy at that time, but also confirmed during a procedure performed by your previous gastroenterologist 2 years prior. I apologize if this was taken as anything other than concern for your health and continued wellbeing. Finally, your diagnosis was confirmed by the pathologist's reading of your biopsies, so there is no doubt as to the accuracy of the diagnosis presented to you or to the appropriateness of the recommended treatment. I would be very happy to discuss this with your further at your convenience.

He and his staff are excellent. He was actually one of the people who started out doing endoscopies and has had a lot of experience. He was recommended to me by my internal medicine physician. He "run's a tight ship" but is very friendly and thorough.

I made an appointment for a colonoscopy and this was the second one that I had performed. I was supposed to receive some type of sedation and I woke up in the middle of the procedure in a lot of pain. The doctor was informed that I was awake and he continued the procedure and no attempt was made to make me more comfortable. I had no problems with my first colonoscopy and have since had a third one performed. For my other colonoscopy procedures, there was another doctor present to ensure that I was put to sleep and did not feel any pain. I would never let this doctor do another procedure on me.

Response from Noar, Dr. Mark
Most patients never awaken during the procedure. When this rarely occurs additional medication is ALWAYS given. I am truly sorry for any discomfort my patients feel, and we always strive for complete satisfaction. Our patient satisfaction ratings are consistently 99.9% "exceptional". We will review this issue as an organization and continue to strive for perfection.

He is outstanding with his treatment. He does a diagnostic procedure on me once a year and if I ever missed the appointment for the treatment, he will send me a mail message. He has also sent me a certified mail one time telling me that I really needed to have the treatment and if I was not going to use him anymore that I should tell the next doctor to get in touch with him and he would provide them with my medical records. This showed that he wanted to make sure that I was going to have the treatment and that was very impressive. He was making absolutely certain that I was aware of what the treatment was for and how import it was and I have never had that with anybody. He has been top-notch and ever since he has been treating me, I am getting better. He also talks on EPR radio where they have medical talk shows and people can call in and ask questions. He is very personable and I have recommended him to 3 or 4 employees of mine and they all had the same experience. You make an appointment and you seen right a way and they also call you later in the afternoon to check up on you, and I don’t think you can ask for more.
Description of Work: Dr. Noar is my gastroenterologist and he has treated me for over 10 years. My last visit to him was earlier this year.

He is very professional and very thorough. He has a nice friendly bed side manner and it is important because of the kinds of procedures in gastroenterology.
