Description of Work: Flintstone was absolutely top shelf. We had been shopping for granite countertops for a couple of months. We looked at boutique/specialty stores, big box, and even Craig's list. We ended up going to a warehouse to look at slabs based on our contact with a "fabricator" we found on Craig's list. After selecting a couple of slabs that we liked, the warehouse told us that our fabricator would contact us to let us know how much the granite would be per sq/ft. On the way home we happened to drive by Flintstone's and decided to stop in. We met with Alex and told him that had just looked at slabs. Alex was great - no pressure, extremely knowledgeable, and very helpful and said that once we received our final price from the Craig's list vendor, to give him a call and he would let us know if he could match it, which he did, and then some. Alex also gave us additional considerations on the edging (a common up-charge in this industry) and other personalized assistance we never would have been able to receive from the Craig's list vendor whom we had never met. | |Ordering was straight forward, 1/3rd at time of order, 1/3rd at time of measurement (after the cabinets were installed), and 1/3rd at time of installation. Alex also didn't bristle over whether or not our order would be able to fit within one slab or two. We needed 55 or so sq/ft, and the first vendor repeatedly mentioned that if we needed to use part of a second slab, that he would have to up the price - not so with Flintstone. Alex ordered 2 slabs right off the bat and used granite from both. At the final meeting, Alex called us to the shop to discuss placement of the sink, and which cut would be best for the counter top, taking into consideration the movement and flow of the grain in the granite. | |The install looks absolutely beautiful! It is PERFECTY measured and expertly installed. Out of the entire kitchen renovation, this experience was by far the most seamless and straight forward. The value is excellent! We would definitely recommend Flintstone to our friends.

SUMMARY: Price: They had a great selection at the best price in the area. That is the primary reason we chose them. Quality: VERY POOR workmanship. Undermount sink hole was significantly crooked and the shape didn?t match the sink well. Countertop corners were supposed to be rounded with a 1? radius, but they forgot to round one corner and many of the corners were rough. Countertop was not cut well to match a non-square wall. Countertop was not shimmed properly (it rocked). Sink was not supported well besides the silicone (one clip and a flimsy scrap of wood attached to the cabinet with one screw). The faucet did not fit the hole they drilled. They left silicone residue around the top of the sink. Responsiveness: They were easy to reach via phone and came out promptly to inspect the work. However, they were not quick to acknowledge the mistakes and they did not give the impression that they cared about doing the job right regardless of whether I noticed. Punctuality: They were very good except for the last day when they were an hour and a half late. I had to call to find out when they were coming. Professionalism: Until we had problems, they were very good. However, the final installation crew was very difficult to work with and I had to remind them to fix several things that the manager who inspected it had said they would fix. I had already pointed these out these problems to them on a previous visit. They flat out refused to fix one of the problems (that the manager had said they would fix) and I overheard a rude comment in Spanish as they were leaving. My Recommendation: Don?t use Flintstone. Pay a little more for better workmanship. If you do decide to use Flintstone, very carefully inspect for the things mentioned above before you let them install the counters and definitely before you authorize the final payment. THE DETAILS: I should state right from the outset that I have done extensive remodeling work (though I am not a professional contractor) on my own house and others? houses and I have a high standard of quality for my own work and any contractor I hire. At the same time, I recognize that perfection is impossible. I do expect though that a company/contractor who claim to be an expert in their field show attention to detail and strive for a high standard of craftsmanship. I expect them to care about doing a job correctly whether or not I?m watching. This project was my first interaction with Flintstone and went into it with no bias except the generally positive reviews I read here on Angie?s List. My wife and I chose them primarily because they were advertising the lowest price in the area and they had a good selection at that price. They also had a very fast turnaround (1 week). When their guy came out to measure, he drew a sketch and took measurements (he did not make a template). I mentioned several specific things I wanted done. In particular, I showed him a wall that was not square that I wanted the granite cut to match and the corners that I wanted cut with a 1? radius. After he left, I did some research and realized that it was considered best practice to reinforce the front and back of the sink with steel rods. I called and they said they weren?t planning to do it but they would add it for $60, which I decided to do. When the granite arrived, there were several problems. First, they had not rounded one of the corners that I specifically mentioned. Their installer did it in the field though so that was fine. It only took him a few minutes and it was better than the corners done at the shop. Second, they did not shim one of the pieces properly and I had to add a shim later to keep it from rocking. Third, the sink was siliconed in place but only mechanically supported by one clip and a scrap of wood screwed very flimsily to the side of the cabinet with a single screw. Fourth, the granite was not cut well to match the non-square wall. At one end there was little more than an 1/8? gap, not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I had specifically pointed it out when they measured and they should have been able to cut it better. The fine print of the contract said they would caulk gaps like this but they did not. Fifth, I did not have the faucet on hand so I asked and they confirmed (multiple times) that the faucet hole size was standard. When the faucet came, it did not fit. The hole was at least 1/8? too small. (To be fair, it may have been a cheaply made faucet but it said it required a standard 1-1/2? hole.) Sixth, several of the 1? radius corners on the granite were very rough. They looked okay but as soon as you touched them you could feel vertical ridges. Again, not a big deal but a sign of poor craftsmanship. Seventh and most significant, the undermount sink hole was crooked and not shaped properly. I did not notice this until after they had left or I would not have let them install it. The back edge between the sink and the wall was about 3/8? wider on one side of the sink than on the other (that was only over a distance of about 12?). The front of the sink, which should have been a very shallow curve, also had a noticeable angle in it. This problem with the sink was what made me decide to call them back. I called and they sent someone out with a couple days. I was happy with the prompt response given that I had already paid. I showed him the sink and he at first he said he couldn?t see what I was talking about. I got out a measuring tape and showed him the 3/8? difference. His exact response was, ?That really bothers you?? Eventually he agreed to send someone out to fix it. The crew came a few days later. I showed them the faucet hole which needed to be wider, the rough corners that needed to be polished, and the crooked sink. The rest of the problems I had either fixed myself or I was going to fix. They took the sink piece back to the shop to regrind the sink hole. The same crew brought it back a few days later. They were supposed to arrive between 2 and 4 and they came at 5:30. I understand that schedules get delayed and that was fine with me, but it would have been helpful if they had called to let me know. The other side effect of them arriving very late in the day was that they seemed to just want to get done as quickly as possible. The sink hole was definitely better but it was obviously still off quite a bit. I stopped them and pointed this out before they installed it. Their response was that they were just the installers and that their job was just to install it and if I had problems with it, I could call the main office. When they caulked the sink, they left about ½? of silicone residue along the top of the sink and said that it would clean off easily later (so far it has not). When they finished with the sink, they picked up their tools to leave and I had to remind them again about the faucet hole and the rough corners (which I had shown the same crew only a few days before). They seemed annoyed but eventually got their drill to fix the faucet hole. They looked at the corners and said they looked fine (even though this was the third time I had asked for them to be fixed and their manager had said they would fix them). They finally said they weren?t going to do it and I overheard a rude comment in Spanish as they left. Five minutes later they came back and said that they had called the office and had been told to fix the corners. They proceeded to do a quick fix, and did not bother to polish them as well as the other corners. At this point, I can?t afford any more delays so I decided not to call them back. The sink is still noticeably crooked. (A straight line down the center of the sink bowl is about 1/4? off in 16?) I sent an email to the main office several days after they reinstalled the sink and explained that I did not feel like we had received the workmanship or professional service that we had paid for. I also explained that I was going to write a review and offered them the chance to see and discuss the review before I posted it. That was several days ago and I have not had any response.

See above-- they did a great job
Description of Work: I was looking for granite remnants for a laundry room sink countertop and a cabinet countertop. I shopped around and Flinstones Marble and Granite was by far the most reasonably priced. I went to their showroom/granite warehouse outside of Rockville. The showroom is great and they had a HUGE selection of remnants. They fabricated the two pieces for me and they are perfect. I worked with Rodolfo and he was very responsive and knowledgeable. Their selection of granite is great. I would definitely work with them again and have recommended them to my contractor and friends.

The granite part of Flintstone does a good job, unfortunately they have partnered with Tim Adams for the Kitchen Cabinet portion of their business. Tim Adams is completely unresponsive and unprofessional when it comes to a customer's questions, requests or issues. I had my kitchen completely renovated and used Flintstone for the cabinets. Flinstone measured and ordered the cabinets. I was using my own contractor who coordinated with Flintstone for the arrival of the cabinets to ensure the work went smoothly. All the cabinets arrived, 3 of them were the wrong style and color. It took another 3 weeks before the corrected cabinets arrived, which put the entire project on hold because of their error this included the installation of the granite. Flintstone did not try to expedite the correction of this error as I requested or compensate me in anyway. My calls were never returned until I called the owner of Flintstone for assistance. Tim Adams ordered accessories for my draws which did not fit and when I requested that it get corrected I never heard from him. Flintstone is a great place to get granite at a reasonable price but do not get kitchen cabinets there even though the price is reasonable and the product is good, if you have to work with Tim Adams there is sure to issues with your order and unresponsiveness from him to correct any problems.

The member placed her order with us. The cabinets were ordered correctly. The manufacturer unfortunately sent 3 of them the wrong color & it took them 3 weeks to remake them. We put an expedited order and they arrived in three weeks. Mr. Adams responded to all of the member's emails.

I was not happy with their work. They are always in a hurry to finish the job. After the work is done and something is wrong, you are to blame and not them. They did not cut the granite correctly in kitchen and they told me it was my fault and not theirs. They said it was because I had this board between the kitchen cabinet and granite. The guy who came to measure made sure the board was included but the work did not. Some of the granite was not finished or polished correctly.

(Member name removed) purchased her kitchen countertop on 08/28/2010. The work was completed and she signed off on the completion form. She did not contact our office to voice any concerns or complaints. On 01/18/2011 (Member name removed) came back into the showroom and purchase a vanity top. Once again the work was completed and she did not contact our office to voice any concerns and complaints. Her complaint comes as a surprise to our company.

They were excellent and we were really pleased with our kitchen, the quality of the things they used, and the granite they put in. They did everything for us and we were pleased with everything they did. The only thing we were frustrated with was that some of things didn’t arrive on time, so the work was delayed but their work was excellent.

We wanted to replace laminate countertops with stone by a certain date, however, we lost a few weeks working with a different company. We went to Flintstone 8 days before our event and were pleasantly surprised when they said they could install within a week--they had to really push their timelines, but to their credit they made it happen! They were having a sale on some of their granite that was ridiculously cheap $35/sqft. After they sent someone out to measure our space, we came back to the showroom and our salesrep, Alex, used a forklift to move the heavy slabs to pick out exactly which ones we wanted (being a natural material, each slab is slightly different) and then we were able to use chalk to map out exactly where our sink would go, what part would be used for the most visible stretches of counter top). In fact, we even used part of one and part of another slab to get the best pieces. The countertop installation was quick, efficient, and it looks fantastic. There were a few hiccups--they accidentally gave us a slightly different shaped sink. We also had a few complaints about their subcontractors: the backsplash installer didn't show on the original day, so we had to reschedule for the next day. The plumber was sloppy--but when we complained to Flintstone, they didn't question it, and sent out a very good plumber to fix a few small things. In the end, we thought Flintstone did a fantastic job, they were very affordable, and they far exceeded our expectations on turnaround time.

We went to their show room/ warehouse in Rockville. Their selection was not as big as some other places, but they had a slab that we liked and their prices were competitive. They took our order and showed up as promised and installed it in just a few hours. They did a fabulous job. The thing looks great.

Our kitchen and bar counter tops were changed from old corian to new granite. The owner, Luis, spent a lot of time with us helping us to choose the perfect granite that went well with our cabinets and ceramic tile floors. He also suggested and was able to make the counters larger than the ones we had, giving us more counter space!!! . We went back and forth a few times to get what we really loved. When we found it, he encouraged us to decide where we wanted the pattern to be placed within the kitchen surfaces. We had a very unusual pattern and wanted to show as much of it as possible. His drawing of the kitchen made it easy to do the placement of the pattern. We also chose new sinks and faucets. The kitchen and bar were finished in less than a day, everything was left clean and we were delighted. It looks beautiful---like a new kitchen and we are very very satisfied and would use them again.

We were planning a major kitchen renovation and needed to find a fabricator and installer for our granite countertops. Flintstone was recommended by our contractor. Initially things went very well. We were working with Luis and had very good interactions. He didn't give us a high pressure sales pitch, didn't try to talk us into slabs that were more expensive, etc... We chose our slab at the beginning of our renovation project and they were holding it for us until we were ready to have it fabricated and installed. The day before they were planning to fabricate the countertops a windstorm knocked over our slab and it broke. They had been storing it outside and did not have it secured properly. Luis was very apologetic and said that they would do what was necessary to make things right. While I know they knew we were upset, we never got angry about the broken granite and just tried to figure out how best to move forward in finding a replacement slab as quickly as possible. Flintstone tried to make it right, but at several steps along the way they fell short. I think that this was mainly because right after this happened, Luis was out of town for an extended period of time and no one else on the Flintstone staff really appreciated the importance of excellent customer service. Because they did not have another slab with the color that we wanted, they suggested that we go to one of several distributers that they use to locate a replacement slab. Once we found what we wanted, they would have it shipped to their location for fabrication. This was all good, except for the fact that time was of the essence and it was a huge inconvenience to travel around the area looking for granite. In the end, we had to take off of work to do it because the completion of our remodeling job was dependent upon getting the granite installed. Once we did find a slab at a supplier in Frederick, Flintstone eventually arranged to have the new slap shipped to them. Once it was there and I called to check on the status of things, I was told it wasn't yet on the schedule for fabrication. It seemed that it was only because I called that it got on the fabrication schedule. You would would think that they would have been better about the follow-through. Phone calls were not returned in a timely manner and communication between Flinstone and our contractor was poor. If we went to the shop we could get answers, but it wasn't always possible to drop everything and go there. This was particularly frustrating because the lack of granite brought our renovation project to a screetching halt. Once the countertops were fabricated, installation did not go smoothly either. Immediately after they were installed, I was asked to inspect and sign-off on the work. I noticed several 1-2inch scratches on the kitchen island and a small scratch behind the slide-in range. I indicated that this was a problem and was initially told that there was nothing that could be done about it. It was only when I refused to pay the entire balance due (I offered to pay half of what was due until we could come up with a satisfactory solution to the problem), that the installer called Luis, who had just gotten back in town. Luis and I spoke and he assurred me that they would find a solution. They would either buff them out or if there was enough granite, they would refabricate the island countertop. The installers then immediately brought in buffing equipment and were able to buff out the scratches on the island. (Why didn't they do that when we first found the scratches and before the phone call to Luis?) The scratch behind the range was too close to the wall to eliminate it completely. At this point, I went ahead and paid the entire balance due because I was so frustrated by the ordeal that I just wanted everything over with. Despite all of these problems, I can say that I love my countertops. The quality of the finished product (once the scratches were removed) was wonderful. My dissappointment with Flintstone was due to lack of communication/customer service and the fact that the only reason they found a solution for the scratches was because I refused to pay. Another minor point is that there was no offer to compensate us for the inconvenience and stress that resulted from the broken slab. Admittedly they presumably incurred an expense to transport the new slab to their shop and I do not know how much the new slab cost them, but I think that they should have also offered to compensate us in some way for the approx 3 weeks it delayed our project. In their defense, however, I did not ask them to compensate us, I was planning to do so when the granite was installed, but the whole ordeal with the scratches made me just want to pay and move on. I am not sure how to rate our interactions with them. In the end we got a high quality product that we are satisfied with, but better communication/customer service would have made a huge difference in our overall satisfaction.

We ordered our cabinets and countertops from this company. After spending $15,000 on the cabinets, a few of them came in with warped cabinet doors as well as rollers that were falling off the sides. They were in horrible condition and a month later, the are still "working" on replacing them. On top of that, the countertop that they insisted needed to come out and measure, measured it wrong and completely miscalculated the total square footage that needed to be cut. We therefore had to go with another granite top that they had instaed. Overall a very poor company and extremely poor quality.

The order was placed by the customers contractor. The contractor and customer placed the order of the cabinets and gave a deposit of the 15 thousand. When it was time for the cabinets to be delivered neither the contractor nor the customer could pay the remainder balance. The cabinets set in storage for over two months until the customer could come up with the remainder balance. They could only come up with some of the remainder balance. We relases the cabinets in good faith that they would pay the remainder balance . After 2 months of sitting in a warehousr because the customer could not pay some of the doors got warped since they are wood. The customer wants us to replace the doors but does not plan to pay the remainder 4000 once they are replaced. The tops were silestone countertops. And were the original color the customer chose. There had to be no replacement of anything. The customer was informed that the doors will be fully replaced once we get written confirmation that we will get the remainder balance upon doing so.

Initially the project was an uncomplicated one of installing countertops in the kitchen of a rental unit. I was pleased with Flintstone's inventory and prices. I was also very impressed with the professionalism and expertice of the installers who came to do the final measurements and then to install the granite countertops. The project turned into a nightmare when the kitchen installer connected the sink and the garbage disposal and found that the sink and the garbage disposal drainlines had to run uphill into the wall drain lines. The garbage disposal and sink drain did not work. To correct the problem, the countertop and cabinets had to be removed so that the plumbing outlet in the wall could be lowered. Flinstone staff removed and then replaced the countertop without damaging it. I was very impressed because everything I read said that it was very difficult to remove an installed granite countertop without damaging it.
Description of Work: Installed granite countertops in kitchen. After installation a plumbing problem was discovered which required that one section of the countertop and cabinets be removed to access and change the plumbing. Flintstone staff removed and then replaced the countertop without damaging it. Very impressive!!

Both jobs went well with no problems.
Description of Work: We have had Flintstones do two projects for us. In summer, 2011 we bought a granite slab from them and they fabricated our kitchen countertops, island, and a desktop. It is gorgeous and they did a good (and prompt) job of fabricating it and installing it. A few days ago they installed a marble fireplace hearth and surround (we selected the marble from one of their distributors). Again, the job was done promptly and we're very satisfied. Their price exactly matched the estimate of another company but we would have had a poorer quality stone with the other company.

They were fabulous! My husband found a 10% off coupon so we went there to check it out. Their granite was gorgeous. I told them how much square footage I would need and Manfred gave me an estimate based on the granite I selected. They were running a manager's special so the price was great! After checking a few other places we decided to go with Flinstones. I signed the contract on September 30. I picked out the slab. They came to measure for the template on October 4. They installed the granite one week later on October 11. Everything went exactly as Manfred said it would . The installers were on time and did all the work in less than 3 hours. They did a fabulous job. The plumber came about an hour later (exactly when they said he would) to hook everything back up. My kitchen looks incredible! I would definitely recommend Flintstones. They were very professional and easy to deal with. Their estimate was right on. Even after I made a few changes, there was only a $7.00 difference (in my favor) between the final price and the estimate. They really know what they are doing at Flinstones.
Description of Work: They removed my formica kitchen countertops and replaced them with granite. They also intalled a new kitchen sink and faucet with a soap dispenser.

I felt that they advertised a low price in the paper, but then you couldn't get that price. There were too many hidden fees. I wouldn't recommend them.
Description of Work: They gave me a quote on a new granite countertop.

The customer came in and didn't like the items that we had on sale (those are the items that are in the advertisement) Our advertising clearly states what is included and what is not. The customer wanted a higher price granite and needed additional services which of course will raise the price. Higher ticket items and additional services will cost more and will drive the price up. Those are not hidden fees.

We have used Flintstone Marble and Granite in the past for a small job. 3 or so years ago we were remodeling a bathroom and needed a remnant for the countertop. Flintstone Marble and Granite had a great selection of remnants and were very responsive. So we went ahead with them. They did a pretty good job (not perfect since the edging came out different on 2 sides). Considering the price we paid we were pretty happy with them. So this year when we finally decided to upgrade our kitchen countertops we went back. This time the selection was limited, service quite rude and sales people not customer oriented. They have expanded since out last trip there and their office is huge compared to what they used to have. Too bad it's the only improvement we have seen. We have also seen a number of unhappy customers compaining about the job that was done at their homes. We will be taking our business elsewhere this time.
Description of Work: First time we had a large bathroom countertop done in granite. Cost a total of $650 and we were able to use a nice pice of a remnant. Second time we went in for a new kitchen countertop, with total square footage of 70 sq.ft. The estimate came out to $4,500.

We noted the adds in the paper for Flintstone's $25-$35/sq foot granite. They showed us the less expensive stones and then we selected a slab. Then we got down to the nitty gritty of negotiating the install charges. We had been looking at Home Depot and some other places for granite and laminate counter tops. laminate was inexpensive at about $700-$800 for the counter, but then everyone wanted $1000+ for the installation and tear out. Flintstone included installation in their basic price of $1800 and did the tear out for $300 and plumbing tear out and install for $250. Basically we got granite for about the same price as laminate! Flintstone installed the granite as two pieces. We had to wait for the plumber who installed our new garbage disposal and hooked everything else back up perfectly within four hours of Flintstone installing the countertop.
Description of Work: Removed existing counter top and installed granite countertop, sink, garbage disposal, and faucet.
