The contractors were great about keeping dirt and noise to the minimum and were pleasant to have around (we were sad to see them go when the project was finished!). They worked efficiently but also thoughtfully and carefully. There was a very minor issue that arose after the work was completed, and the owner himself came to quickly address and resolve it. We are quite pleased to now have a beautiful and functional bathroom and would definitely use Renovo Group again!
This is our second experience with Renovo and we loved it. Highly recommend!
even pick out the baseboards. They talked to me about what I was
thinking, gave information about the different options, and the next
thing I new, we had new baseboards. They look fantastic. What was most
impressive, however, was the timeliness and professionalism (couldn't
tell anything had been moved - everything was cleaned up and moved
back).
They also fixed some baseboards that our dogs had chewed up. Also, super fast, looks amazing.
Will definitely use for next projects.
We are very pleased with Renovo's work. Joe M. filled all our requests before and during the project. He even touched up areas that were not part of the project for us. The two offices and file room were done with quality and professionalism. Most of all, Joe and his team are considerate of the customer's needs. For example, when there were sanding the plaster in the offices, they covered up all the air conditioning vents to prevent dust from spreading.
Additionally, Renovo has performed other projects for us: ADA compliant wheelchair accessibility ramps, residential rehab (kitchen and bathroom remodeling) and they changed a dilapidated Victorian built in 1900 into a wonderful, beautiful home for us.
"We appreciate the positive response and have always enjoyed working for you and your employees. Please let me know how we can raise that B rating in quality to an A."
Joe is terrific to work with: personable, professional, flexible, knowledgeable, and very responsive. Joe also has great ideas and is passionate about his woodworking, design, and customization work. However, we wanted someone to deliver what we required and documented on a detailed contract that included at-scale drawings based off our house blueprints. The errors began from the start, and possibly reflected Renovo trying to work multiple projects concurrently to meet our schedule. As agreed per contract, we provided makes, models, photos, even pics of pricetags for Joe to purchase materials and supplies from Lowe's in a folder with the contract, schedule and plans. Joe instead used Home Depot and made substitutes in purchasing materials, particularly the bathroom toilet: a substitute that was not coordinated with us first, and although he probably thought he was saving us money, saving money was not the overarching objective: having what we spent time shopping for and wanted was the objective. However, the bathroom turned out beautiful, it is the prettiest bathroom in our home and works perfectly. (Although Joe installed a drywall ceiling when we wanted a drop ceiling: he cited moisture as a potential issue, but the basement is perfectly dry and there was no shower being installed!) Now we can't get to the plumbing/utilities in the ceiling in that area of the basement (all the rest is drop ceiling), meaning we'll have major repairs if we ever need access.
The drawings clearly stated that the area under the stairs was NOT to be enclosed, yet there it was, framed for enclosure, which had to be removed and about which Joe and his crew seemed quite unhappy. Convinced they were not looking at the plans, we reviewed them. Again, Joe and his crew erred in dismantling the railings along the stairway, which were clearly marked to stay as is, and he disposed of the beautiful wood. Again, he rebuilt the stair railings, but they didn't look as nice as he had tossed the original wood. One wall was installed crooked. However, on the upside, Joe was very helpful in providing advice about dismantling an existing wall and rearranging the room. He also added trim here and there and was cooperative in documenting any scope/price changes as they occurred. Except for the one crooked area, framing and drywall was done very well, creating a smooth finish that looks great.
To help make things right, Joe threw in free painting (for which we had planned to hire a long standing contractor to do, and now regret not sticking with the original plan). The paint job was horrible, and had to be redone in places, again, the plan that indicated which of two paint colors was to be applied where wasn't followed, and then we just gave up.
The most significant issue on this job with Renovo was the electrical work: instead of subcontracting a qualified professional, per the contract, Joe did this work himself. That would have been fine if the outcome had been different. Understandably, 14 yrs ago, the builder wired the home the way builders do, in sections. Joe took it upon himself to reroute wiring, without ANY discussion with the homeowner--who does that?--which resulted in various electrical failures throughout the home, requiring us to take more time from work, bring in a master electrician, and have a lot of wiring repaired. The stress was significant, and we regretted the project. Joe and his crew left the house with a live wire disconnected that controlled the storage area lighting, and with none of the electrical working in the garage or outside. Joe agreed to take the costs of electrical repair (~$2000) off the overall price of the work, which we negotiated rationally and professionally--he gets lots of good points for the way he strives to do business.
About 3 weeks after the job was completed, we noticed the bulbs in recessed lighting in the basement area were blowing out every few days, 2 and 3 bulbs at a time. After replacing bulbs multiple times, we contacted the master electrician again, who inspected and advised that the wrong connectors were used (commercial vs residential), and that wires were rubbing against each other due to vibrations from life upstairs, and he replaced every connector, wrote a report, and provided pictures and citations from the code. That was a $1300 repair and another lost day of work. The problem has not recurred. We contacted Joe about this and he yelled and accused us of lying, but eventually called back and apologized, asked for the pictures, and offered to entertain a request for reimbursement. To be clear, we have not followed up, because $1300 is not a big deal to us, while putting this stressful experience behind us is the most important thing.
Although the team was exceptionally clean and respectful of our home, they did not put up plastic at the top of the stairs into our house, and the dust was terrible, although we were warned about the dust. We hired professional cleaners for 3 weeks in a row to help remove the dust, then had the A/C people come and replace the filters. Work was relatively on time, the bathroom is stunning, the rest of the room turned out nice. So we are torn in our review: personable and knowledgeable guy, competitively priced, clean and respectful services delivered, high skill level in customization, doesn't follow directions/plans, electrical was a disaster. Overall, we'd say go into hiring Renovo with your eyes open, and make sure you have a detailed contract about who is doing what work and what their qualifications are.
Malandruccolo, MHIC) takes to educate us on what can or should be done to maintain the quality and aesthetic of our 80 plus y.o home which is located in a historic district. Second is his willingness to go the extra mile to keep a project within a budget. For example, because of his familiarity with local retailers and vendors, he was able to QUICKLY advise us of a great price on cabinetry similar to what we had originally selected- and then Joe helped further using his own contractor discount to help us make the purchase. We wanted to replace a flagstone patio and after securing a number of estimates, Joe told us that he thought they were all too high and that we should reconsider doing the work at that time. Joe encouraged to use a new electrician who ended up being half the cost and much faster than our previous vendor. He made astute and tactful suggestions to steer us away from style choices not in keeping with the design and age of our center hall colonial- with its wood floors, traditional architecture, and wall colors visible from our kitchen.
Joe truly stands by his work- when a specially ordered and designed cherry table top arrived with a ding in it-Joe did the install ( we were out of town) so that we would HAVE a table- and then had the carpenter remake a table which was then installed again. When the table finish was susceptible to heat marks- he and the carpenter discovered a a problem with the product used for the finish- and once again- stripped the table and FIXED it again.
Our home is a maze of electrical wiring installed and then abandoned over 80 years. Joe worked hands on with his crew, often in very tight spaces between floors to get the wiring needed for our new lighting and the plumbing for two new sinks, disposal and dishwasher RIGHT. I was around when alot of this work went on- and it was clear that it was hard and frustrating. I never heard Joe or his crew use inappropriate language or yell or behave like "jerks" ( as others have!) In fact Joe's crew were very nice, polite and engaged in many interesting discussions of world events! I even liked their music choices-though typically they turned it off if I walked into a room. They also did a great cleanup job EVERY day.
Of course noone is perfect and sometimes the press of other jobs resulted in mistakes. For example, in an effort to quickly do the "finish" work, the crew reversed the placement of drawer pulls and cabinet knobs- which they did not discover until after all holes had been drilled. Hence, we had to purchase additional hardware and live with the mistake. I must say though- it actually looks better they way it ended up!
Because Renovo does do good work in a professional manner, they have generated more business. I think they need to improve the time estimates of completing a project vis a vis starting a new one or punch listing an older one. There were several instances when we expected the crew, and they were reassigned to a new project or another existing project. I would encourage folks to be watchful on this. esp. if you have tight time frame for your project. Be clear about the priority of your projects and expectations. I probably let it go a few too many times- my bad.
I think Renovo does fine work, has honest crews and charges fair prices. I definitely recommend them to you.
"Thank you for the positive response. Your kitchen is to date my favorite transformation of any space we have done. Removing those flimsy, European style, modern cabinets from your 100+ year old home and replacing them with quality, era-appropriate style and finish cabinets was what your home needed. Glad to be the one to make it happen."
The job included demolishing my bathroom down to the studs; repairing some moldy slats; installing insulation & drywall (to replace plaster); building out a custom linen closet; cutting tiles and tiling the floor and shower; adding shower shelving; crafting and installing custom wainscoting panels and ornate trim around the door; painting (plus helping to choose a paint color); installing a new vanity, lights, shower/tub/faucet fixtures, and hardware; handcrafting and installing a beautiful wooden medicine cabinet with mirror. Renovo also coordinated with our chosen tile vendor to pick up tile as our orders arrived, and picked up our paint from Home Depot.
We opted to keep our recently purchased toilet and heavy steel tub since they were in good condition, and Renovo even cleaned the toilet after moving it back into place. The tub did get one small ding in the enamel during the demolition phase, but I felt like they did a nice job protecting our stuff and keeping their work area clean and compact. At the time, we had no utility sink, and it was winter, so they were forced to use the kitchen sink alot and it was usually unnoticeable afterwards.
Their pricing was very reasonable and the quality good (2 years later, it still looks new), but the most impressive thing about Renovo was their attention to little details that were important to me. On their initiative, Renovo suggested creating a custom 5-panel door for the narrow linen closet, and found a small glass doorknob, so it matched my other upstairs doors. When the rectangular shower tiles we picked out turned out to be an awkward fit for the tile border around the shower, Renovo brainstormed different solutions with me. The walls of our bathroom are all different sizes, so the wainscoting panels are all slightly different sizes, but because of their clean design you would never notice.
As these projects often do, my bathroom remodel ran over the planned timeline. This was due to some unanticipated setbacks while demolishing the old plaster and flooring. Because my house is so old, there were several inches of hardcore plaster, mortar and CONCRETE they had to destroy and remove from our upstairs. Admirably, Renovo stayed true to the price range we had agreed upon at the onset, despite having to do several days more work.
We have used Renovo for a few smaller jobs since, and I would be very comfortable using them again for a large project. They know what they're doing, are easy to work with, and their prices are competitive.
Joe communicates clearly on timing, scope, budget - in addition when anything changes he is the first to inform you so you are clear on expectations. The attention to detail on all work is above and beyond! He and the crew are a pleasure to work with, very respectful of your property/belongings, clean up etc and again, deliver 100%
You'd be crazy not to meet with Renovo to discuss your project - you can't go wrong!
"[Removed Member Name] and her husband [Removed Member Name] are awesome as well. They literally think about every detail before the project begins, ask all the right questions and have an uncanny ability to visualize even the most complicated project before it starts, which makes working for them an absolute pleasure. Can't wait for the next one."
The job started on time, and finished exactly on time and on budget. This was a big plus for us, we were on a pretty tight budget. Joe and his team really did outstanding work. It really looks amazing, we couldn't be happier. We know that there was some complicated electrical and plumbing work, but everything is in perfect working order now. Best of all, we know that it is all safe and up to code. Joe helped with the lighting design, and we agreed that some pot lights would be best in one spot, and those were installed the next day, at no additional charge. We had some problems with the floor being level, it's an old house- nothing in it is straight or level, making Joe's job much harder. They fixed the floor right away and it looks great. Joe built a custom base for our pantry to sit on so that it was level with the other cabinets and so that the crown molding runs evenly around the room. They replaced all of the trim around four doors and Joe personally did a beautiful custom trim around the window. None of the trimwork was not included in the estimate and he did at no additional charge because the old trim looked shabby with all of the new cabinetry. I was indecisive about the light fixture, so Joe came back a few days after the work was done to install it. I really want to emphasize that the attention to detail and the craftsmanship is outstanding. We discussed where the light switches should go, the plugs, the seams on the butcher block counter, which style of trim would look best; Joe thought of many many things that didn't even occur to me. The final result has exceeded our expectations. It really has changed the feel of our house; it feels more like our home now.
In addition to the high quality work done in the kitchen, I want to add that Joe and his team (Dave and Steve) were truly excellent to work with. They were on time every day. Every single day, they tidied and did their best to confine the mess to the kitchen, which I really appreciated with a toddler running around. They did little things, like bring in the trash cans if they saw them outside, vacuuming the inside of the cabinets if wood dust got in them, holding up light fixtures for me to see which I liked best; I'm sure I'm forgetting things that really bear mentioning. They were great about updating us on the progress, what was happening when and why it was happening in that order. They were all really kind, personable, professional, and an absolute pleasure to have in our home for a month. My daughter missed them when the job ended and still talks about them.
To be a balanced review, I feel that I should mention any negatives, but there really isn't even one thing I can think of. We've been living in the kitchen for a month now, and really love it. I wholeheartedly recommend Renovo Group and we won't use anyone else for any future projects.
"[Removed Member Name] and her husband [Removed Member Name] were an absolute pleasure to work for. They are both very kind and gracious and understanding. Even when we occupied their kitchen for 4 weeks. Kelly was great to work with as she did a lot of planning up front which made our job a lot easier. She knew what she wanted and it sounds like we delivered. Looking forward to the next one guys."
