It went very well. JJM is a custom builder, so we were encouraged to specify exactly what we wanted for basically everything (tiling, sink & shower layout, cabinets, various fixtures & accessories, grout & paint colors, etc.) Of course guidance was provided when requested or appropriate. Staff members were pleasant and helpful. Almost all work was ultimately completed by a single individual who took the time to do things right. He tried for perfection---and basically achieved it. He also arrived punctually every day, was personable, and tried to keep the house free of dirt and dust. When a few "in progress" modifications (requiring some rework) became inevitable, this presented no problem. We noted that quality materials were used even for mundane items such as adhesives and pipe traps. The end result is rooms that look absolutely superb. We have no misgivings whatsoever with respect to our selection of JJM, and would use this contractor again.

Very well. We lived in the home during renovation and they did everything they could to keep the dust down. Also, they were very responsive to design changes in-process and very professional with keeping up on change orders.

I called JJM and told them what I wanted done, and within a day or two, Joe Memmel came out to measure. He looked at the two rooms I was renovating and measured etc and got ideas as to what else I might want him to do. He took his time and I have to say the results were worth it. I wanted counter tops across the wall in what used to be the dining room, and on the "back" wall of the kitchen, with my table near the center of the room. He made a mock up of the design so I could see it, and make any changes. no changes were necessary; it was what I wanted. I went down to the showroom a few times to look at the counter tops (granite) and to pick out the wood for the cabinets. Everything they had was nice, so that task wasn't easy, but I finally bought the beautiful Cherry wood cabinets, Venitian Gold Granite for the counter tops, hardwood floors, light colored paint for the walls, travertine for the backsplash, and both recessed lighting and undercabinet lighting. They also had to make repairs in the subflooring (which was unexpected), but the floor was sagging. No more sagging now. They also removed a bulkhead which contained the heating pipe for the upstairs bathroom so they rerouted all of that. It took about eight weeks, so it was a little bit inconvenient but it was well worth it. I bought new appliances from Sears, and I got the travertine from a tile shop; JJM's workers installed all of it for me. I couldn't be happier! Original estimate was 43,000, but I got upgrades, so in the end it was higher, but I'm only renovating my kitchen once. Rich Yaeger from JJM came out every day to make sure things were progressing as they should, and that was comforting, when so much was being done. As I said, I can't say enough good about JJM.
Description of Work: Renovated my kitchen...tore out everything, and replaced the original design of a dining room and kitchen, with one big kitchen which is what I asked them to do. Very pleased!

It went very well. We wanted the roof for second floor stick framed instead of trusses. They were fine with doing so, and were very helpful in the planning of the garage. They wrote up the contract for the garage and obtained all necessary permits. Work included: foundation, framing, windows, electrical, roof, gutters, siding, and lighting. We wanted the garage to be well built and to look very pleasing. There is a dormer with three windows on the second floor. The only additional costs were things we decided we wanted to add in. Everyone we worked with was pleasant and professional. All work was done well and the garage looks wonderful!

JJM was responsive to my compaints and worked until they were all rectified. The first time some of the material saw cuts were ragged but I called the job representative to tell him of my unhappiness and he sent a crew and new material and redid the cuts and then reinstalled and caulked seams and I was happy with it.

I had a lot of problems with this company."JJM Home Improvement" this job started on February 3rd and this is being written on October 14th. The job has not been completed. I had a lot of problems with the Cherry Cabinets, the Counter top and the flooring which I had selected. After one of the cabinets got broken by their man, I was told to wipe the cabinets down with a damp cloth and to take a good look at them. After I showed him what I saw, a meeting was scheduled between the Salesman the Foreman, myself and my sister for February 22 to go over the problems. The salesman for JJM looked at the cabinets and called the Schrock Representative and said the cabinets looked really bad. The Schrock representative came the next day which was a Saturday to look at the cabinets and he recorded the problems. However, he wouldn't tell me which ones he were replacing and that I would have to get back with JJM to find out. He told me I was missing the skins on the drawer cabinet and the cabinet next to the window. He told me it would take 10 days for them to be delivered. JJM never got back with me to tell me the out come of the meeting. I called but nothing happened. Three weeks later I still didn't know which cabinets were being replaced or what he had found. Another meeting was set up on early March to go over the list. When this meeting started My first question was where are the cabinets, no one would respond. The Schrock Representative had to leave early as he had another appointment. JJM Salesman and I disagreed on the cabinets which had finger prints and zebra striping on the inside of the cabinet trim. I was told by JJM they were at a stand off. They didn't want to replace any of the cabinets. I was very upset as I had no kitchen since February 3rd. I told them I would keep those cabinets but I wanted a completion date as to when the kitchen would be finished. They called me that evening and they gave me the date of March 28th. They never met the March 28th deadline. I finally called Master Brand who makes the Schrock Cabinets and they said there was never an order placed with them other then the original order. I did asked them if there was any charge for replacing the cabinets as they were under their warranty. They said no! I called the foreman and told him what I found out and that there was not charge for replacing the cabinets. This was an excuse used by them in one of our meetings. During that time they told me the equipment was on a truck coming across the country and that the truck had to make several stops along the way so they had no idea when they were coming. On Monday April 14th I had another meeting this time with the owner, the foreman, my brother and myself to discuss the job. They told me the only thing keeping me from a working kitchen was the storage cabinets which they had not received. However, at the end of the meeting I was told the storage cabinets had just been delivered. They called me that Thursday April 17th and said they weren't coming to do the kitchen as promised. At that point, I ended up calling the Maryland Home Improvement Commission who intervened and got my kitchen put together that Friday. JJM was not careful and unprofessional while working in my home. They put their saws on my new cabinets. The drawers and cabinets were filled with sawdust. They sawed on in my backyard cement pad by the door and on my storage cabinet which left sawdust in the yard. I had paint in the yard as well. I have 2 small dogs this should never have happened. Their man decided to paint the window frame by straddling the sink on my new Formica counter top. The mitered edge broke loose. The foreman told me the guy was on stilts, even though I walked behind him while he was doing it. I never had any help with the design of the back splash. They didn't use a wet saw while cutting the end tile for the back splash. I told their man the tile shop told me that if they needed to cut this tile they would need a Wet Saw. He said he did not need one and the cut was terrible. They didn't put up sheets to protect my home or the new cabinets while sanding. My entire house was filled with the sanding. The ceiling took several tries before they could get it right. They put in the lights without showing me the lights, discussing where they would go or how many switches would be needed. Their man hung his coat on my storage cabinet door when I asked him to move it, he told me well its being replaced. I said the doors are being replaced not the cabinet. I went to the Salesman for help with the back splash but I got none. As I was leaving he told me they were going to do my Formica counter top with plywood. I wrote them an email and told them that it was not acceptable and that I could not find anything about a Formica being made with plywood. He wrote back that the plywood is supposed to be the better product. I wrote back and asked him to tell me where this place was so I could check it out. He never told me where the place was. The next time I spoke to the foreman, he was going get the counter top from Home Depot. The JJM work men that brought the doors and skins for the my cabinets multiple times said that the owners and the foreman both knew they didn't match my kitchen but they were told to bring them to my home anyways. The foreman argued with me more than once. In one of the arguments I was told it was my fault the kitchen was not done and that it was related to the counter top. However that was not true. I picked the color for the countertop from their office before I had ever signed the contract. I even verified the type of finish with the sales person through emails. However when they came to take the mesurements for the counter top the Forman asked gentlemen if the color came in a matt finish which is what I wanted. The man called to find out the color had been discontinued. I had to start all over looking for a new color but in no way was I holding them back because they were the ones that never placed an order for the doors, skins or storage cabinet. In the past month I have tried to call several times and got no response. Finally the foreman decided to call me, he said he was trying to avoid me because the owner didn't want to pay to have anymore doors or skins shipped to me. Please note they would send doors that were damaged, the wrong sizes, the wrong color or doors that had already been replaced. They lied to me over and over again about orders being placed and items being shipped. I feel that I was taken advantage of because of my age and because I'm single. At this point I have two cabinets which were suppose to come with a finished end which they have referred to as skins and they did not! I have even asked the owner to reorder the cabinets however he refuses. And now he is not answering or responding to my calls.l. I do not recommend these people to anyone. As far as punctuality goes, when they called they were on time. However, there were times I was given a date for delivery of the doors, storage cabinet and/or skins and they never did call to inform me that they were not coming and that no one would be at my home.
Description of Work: They were remodeling my kitchen, installing cabinets, a vinyl floor and Formica counter top.

This woman is full of lies and deception. The majority of her comments are simply untrue. We went out of our way trying to please her but were unsuccessful. We re-ordered cabinet parts at least ten times for her just to appease her and she still was not satisfied. I don't know what else there is to do in trying to please someone who is unappeasable.

I was very pleased with what they did. Their prices were very fair. They were probably comparable though I did not get any quotes from others because I was confident when they came out and gave me the proposal. The people that came out were very professional and friendly. They cleaned up and I had no complaints with the either of the crew members. There were two different groups because the side walk was done by a different group and the window was done by a different group. The owner came out give me the proposal and I went over with everything with him which I got by mail as well. They were very organized and performed the work ahead of schedule from when they informed me that they’ll be able to do it which was great because I really needed the window to be fixed as the water was coming in through it when it rained. They went about their business.
Description of Work: I used JJM Home Improvements Inc for doing different things because I had water leaking in my basement and they closed up a window for me which was causing a problem. I had a new sidewalk put in which was made of brick and stone.

Well, took longer than expected-no surprise. That's how contractors usually roll. Some of the guys were really nice and efficient. But one did not show up, and it made the tasks longer. Maybe too many tasks for one company? Had some personal items missing @ time of work being done, not saying contractor was cause-coincidence?

This is a very professional company. They had done work for us--addition added, new siding, windows, etc. many years ago. Their service and techs kept us up-to-date on all work being done. Their contract was wonderful. We made a few changes along the way--no problem. The price was right on target. We had water that leaked into the downstairs--reason for renovations.

They told me to be ready the day after Christmas. First thing in the morning, nobody showed up so I called them and the guy said he did not know what happened so he said he’ll call back. It turned out that the foreman of the crew was out sick and the crew didn’t know that they were supposed to show up and nobody corrected it. They said they would definitely be there the next day and the foreman called me even though he was sick. The next day, nobody showed up and I had to call them again. He said he’s still out sick and doesn’t know why nobody showed up but he said he is sure that somebody’s going to be there the next day. The next day it was going to be a Friday so my husband told them we’d rather have to start the job on Monday because we don’t want to have the porch turned up and we can’t go in the middle of the front door. They did not show up again that Monday so we called them again to know if they were definitely coming and we did not get a callback, we had to call them until finally they did come. One man that worked on the house was very nice but the foreman, I don’t think he really knew what he was doing. We still have a leak, we waited a week before they fixed it. They came back, they said the reason for that leak is because the dirt is not pumped up against the side of our house correctly. They said that if we fill in the crack, it won’t leak. He just showed up one day with no call and the guy said, he came to fix the crack. I asked what he was going to do and he said that he was going to dig out and put marine paint on the other side and to dig this six foot hole. The hole was next to my heat pump was and it was scheduled to rain the next day. I said I am not comfortable with that because if it rains, my heat pump goes sliding down and we’re in big trouble. He said, that he is going to guarantee that it won’t happen. Well he can’t really guarantee that so I said he’s going to do that on the day when it is not scheduled to rain. What he did was, he changed the way the dirt was and covered it over with a tarp for the rain and then I’ve never heard from them, they never came back. I had called them twice about the crack and the guy that filled in the crack said they contracted me up to another company. And when they gave me the estimate they said that they never contracted it to another company. But then they said we contracted that company because we want to make sure that his job was done correctly. The guy came back, put some more stuff on the wall, that was before they did the dirt thing. When I called them back again, he said that until we get the dirt issue fixed, there will always have problems with leaking but supposedly, he had filled in the crack. So now it leaks more that it did, now we have to keep the tarp over our grass on the outside next to the wall. They never came back to fix it. And then there were two spots on the wood that they used at the back had cracks in it and had writings all over it. I asked them why they were using wood that has writing on it and he said “Oh you don’t want to use this wood that has writings on it?” and I said I don’t want to because it is my front porch. He said they have to take out half the porch and had to also redo the steps because it was uneven when they put it in and they told us before they did this that they would even out the steps that we had. So they took it out, from three steps they made it into two steps and they redid it and it’s closer but he told me the ground was uneven and that’s why the steps were uneven, they redid it but it was still uneven. My husband and I tripped off the steps because of that and then there were two places where there were knots. We had list of railing with jacks to replace the boards underneath of it. The piece of wood they put in had a giant knot right where you walk up the steps. Usually, a knot pops out overtime and the whole point of having the porch replaced was because we were worried about the rotting wood. They put a knot in the place where everybody that comes in the house was going to have to step on. So the guy said I can fill it in with putty for you and I said I don’t want something that’s going to be discolored because I like the look of the wood. He promised that it won’t be discolored. He said he will fill all the knots but I requested for just two specific knots to be filled in. I went out one day and when I came back every single knot on the porch have been filled in, the porch has discolored spots all over the wood. They also put in a railing on the steps that’s wider than my hand so I can’t put my hand on the railing to go up the steps. I told them that the railing was pretty wide, the guy said he wanted to make it sturdy and it’s already cemented in and he said that if he ripped the part off, it will be uneven. I told him I don’t want it to be uneven and he said “Well, whatever you want.” I really don’t have anything good to say other than that the guy that actually built the porch was a very nice man and he was trying to accommodate me. The guy who was working with him just wanted to listen to the radio. The foreman just showed up when he felt like it and always said things to try to appease me but never really follow through on anything. They never did come back to fix the crack, they just left the tarp over that dirt. I also tried to call to set up a meeting with the owner but the secretary said the owner is the one who sets his own schedule and I have to call back to talk to him. Every time I called back, they keep saying that the owner is not in.

Unfortunately there is always that one person you simply just can not please...no matter what. Rather getting into he said, she said disputes I can say that the majority of [member name removed} "book long" comments are simply false. Please take a look at our other reviews to realize we are not what she leads you to believe. We have been in business for twenty-three years with a reference sheet a mile long.
