We had a screen porch added a couple of years ago and were told that the treated lumber used to build it should be given a year or two to age and out-gas the chemicals from the treated lumber before it should be sealed. The wood had certainly started to show signs of aging and weathering and we worried that we had let too much time pass. The pressure washing restored the color to look like new - all the stains, all the weathering, etc. were cleared off. The application of the clear stain - which lets the grain show through and gives a nice glow to the wood was done carefully and there was no mess. The final step was to apply a clear caulk around the screens where the wood had shrunk a bit and left some gaps. That was done fully and carefully. The work was done in the time expected and for what we considered a reasonable amount of money. We're very happy with the outcome and would use Ms. Honey Do again for other work.
Description of Work: Pressure wash the exposed wood of a screen porch to restore it to a non-weathered look, two coats of sealant applied to all wood inside and out, caulking around all 24 screens to fill the gaps that appeared as the wood aged. Took three days to do the actual work with a couple of days off between the power wash and the staining to allow the wood to dry.

They are very punctual. They are very reasonably priced. They are reliable. They come out and give you an estimate. They can show you previous work they've done. They are very nice.
Description of Work: They do a little bit of everything. They remodel rooms, lawn service, etc. This is woman owned and operated. Purchased a large washer and dryer unit, but they were too large to fit through our door. They took the old door out, re-framed the door, and replaced it with a wider, up to code door.

We noticed the grout between the tiles on the shower threshold was cracked and could allow water in. This needed to be attended to as it wouldn't fix itself. When we started sawing out the old grout to replace it, the tile just came loose. Underneath the tile was lots of black mold and a wooden 2x4 support that was moldy and soft. During the estimate for the threshold repairs, there was concern that the mold might have traveled up behind the tile in the walls. We all agreed that they'd start the work on the threshold and, if mold was found to be going up the walls, work would stop and exploration with a new estimate would be performed before anything else was done. Since I would be home alone with the worker while my husband was at work and the bathroom in question was off the master bedroom, the estimator did ask if it was okay if a man did the work. I was okay with that but did appreciate the consideration of being asked. The worker arrived on time and was very politely friendly and professional. I watched him work and he was willing to describe each step of what he was doing and why. When he cleaned out the old, rotted stuff, he determined that the damage was only in the threshold. After replacing the 2x4 support, he reused much of the original tile. Since the several of the original tiles were cracked and/or broken and were installed in 1959 and no longer available, he made a couple ot trips to Home Depot to obtain new tile that wouldn't look out of place with the old. He balanced the placement of the old and new tiles to blend it in and make it look good. This required cutting of many of the new tiles. When he finished, he cleaned up the bathroom and shower floor and it all looked great. Before leaving, he advised us about applying sealant to the old grout as well as the new grout in the entire shower to seal it and make the grout last. He also showed us where we needed to apply a bit of calk to seal things up to prevent later problems. I've been a bit slow posting this review. It's now been 11 months since the work was done. I liked the result right after the work was completed but I love it even more now. When people have seen the shower, no one notices that some of the tile is different -- they just notice the pretty threshold. I will definately use these contractors again.

The work was done as agreed to and the company provided the needed materials. We did a walk through prior to him completing the caulking. He arrived on time, completed the work in approximately four hours and was professional in his approach to the task. I did after a 2nd walk through when the work was completed. I was very pleased with the service and would not hesitate to contact Ms Honey Do, LLC for other work.

I have a small handyman electrical job I need help with and have been challenged to find someone who will charge only for the job. I have used Ms. Honey Do in the past and was satisfied, so I thought I would solicit an estimate from them. I filled out the box on the Contact Us portion of the web site and received NO RESPONSE! I have spent more time looking for someone to fix the problem than it would take to actually fix the problem.

See comments above. We have used this company twice, and we will use them again next year.
Description of Work: Estimates were given for removing old kitchen floor and installing new sub floors and ceramic tile. Price given above included the price of the ceramic tile and supplies of $ 1800.00 This is the second time we have used this company, and I was very impressed with their responsiveness and consideration. ( Our house only has one exit that could be used during the inbstallation process, and the men working were very patient with my erratic work schedule of going in and out. ) After the job was completed, a worker had to return to remove grout residue on quite a bit of the tile, and it was rather a tedious job, but twice a flooring specialist returned, so that we would be completely satisfied with the install. We have used this company in 2008, and we will use them again to supervise the installation of new kitchen counter tops. They even refunded some of our monies because certain tasks were not performed. ( our choice)

We could not be happier with the result - before Scott and Pat came to fix our bathroom, we had old, peeling linoleum placed over sketchy looking tile. We were pretending it wasn't there - until we noticed that the tiles under the linoleum by the toilet were bubbling up. Ick. Enter Ms. Honey Do - they'd been doing work on a house down the street and our neighbor seemed very happy with their work, so we checked them out on Angie's List. Pat arranged an estimate soon after we called and took the time to explain everything in detail. We received the estimate very quickly and it seemed in line with what other folks were paying for similar services on Angie's List. They were able to put us on their service calendar soon after the estimate and arrived on time. Originally, we had planned on laying the tile ourselves and they did not try to "up sell" us for extra services. In fact, both Pat and Scott offered us a number of tips that would have been very useful if we had decided to do it ourselves. Instead, we took a good look at the radiator, the lines coming up from the floor for the sink, and the flange and decided that Ms. Honey Do could tile too. I'm so glad we hired them to do the whole job. When they came back to lay the tile, they were again on time, pleasant, professional, and fast. They both patiently answered all our questions and were willing to make TWO trips to Home Depot to remedy our mistakes. They did not charge us extra for these trips - Pat simply exchanged the bag of bad grout and charged us only for the cost of the new threshold. Then, they gave us advice about how to undertake the next steps in our bathroom remodel. All this to say, our bathroom looks 100% better. We will definitely be using Ms. Honey Do again.
Description of Work: Ms. Honey Do removed broken tiles and rotting subfloor from our bathroom (after a toilet leak), pulled the toilet, replaced the subfloor under the toilet, installed Hardi Backer Board, trimmed the bathroom door, installed new tile and grout, caulked, and reinstalled the toilet. They also made two trips to Home Depot for us (after we bought the wrong size door threshold and to replace a bad bag of grout). The flange was sticking up too far, so they took the time to discuss our options with us and (when we chose the least expensive option), they build a surprisingly lovely "box" around the toilet and tiled it so it easily blends into the bathroom.

It has been a horrible process. They have hired unlicensed, untrained people to perform work that had to be redone, including making a serious plumbing mistake that they didn't catch until after the concrete and tile were put over it, so the floor had to be dug up again and and relaid and they still don't look right. We asked that they have the plumbing all inspected with a camera after that so we know its right, and they refused. They had concrete sub-contractors who sprayed water into the furnace, something they said wasn't their problem. In general, when I told them a sub-contractor was doing something to damage our home, they said they didn't have time to babysit subs. They tried to hide serious, dangerous mistakes, including flighting with me not to pull down an old ceiling, when what we found was dangerous old electrical, that if the electrician hadn't told us was probably there, we never would have known and it could have caused a serious problem. The owner made design choices, like where to place bathroom fixtures, without consulting us and the layout is very odd. Throughout the process the owner was either absent or would call me to yell at me for asking too many questions or making unauthorized changes, when her subs agreed the changes needed to be made. At the end, when I just needed things finished, the owner started saying that things we had discussed all along would be an additional charge and refusing to do them. When I complained about the mistakes that were made I was told that mistakes were human and I shouldn't complain unless they refused to fix them. They put no value on our time or the disruption to our lives that fixing all the mistakes took. There were disrespectful, rude, and incompetent. Several people we have had come look at the work now have commented that they used low quality supplies. I have been through many home renovations, but never anything this stressful or demoralizing. Despite the continued problems and the fact that we are still afraid to use everything, they are now demanding final payment and refusing to send a licensed plumber to fix the leaks. We are in the process of hiring people to check the work and make any necessary repairs, but that just costs more money and time.
Description of Work: They were to put a new bathroom in the basement and refinish the basement. They also were to do some minor repairs throughout the house. They estimated it would cost about $16,000 and take two weeks. They want a total of $30,000 and there are still plumbing leaks, drywall holes, doors that don't open and close correctly, etc., after ten weeks of continuous "work." Some things were added to the job, but essentially because they didn't look at things when they did the estimate and sent someone totally untrained to do the estimate, so they didn't know what would be required to finish the work and once they had done the demolition, we had no choice but to agree to the additional work to put things back correctly, even though it was not what we were led to believe it would cost in money or time.

Response from Ms. Honey Do LLC
Ms. Honey Do, LLC (MHD) had a DC License #7752 in effect until 9/30/12. WE chose not to renew the license because we had no other work in DC. Originally 3 separate estimates totaling $16,626.20 were signed by homeowner with completion time of 24 work days. On 7/27/12, due to numerous changes, homeowner requested new contacts rather than change orders. Homeowner was aware of extensive water issues prior to starting project. Her changes included adding an elaborate drain system, installing moisture-resistant drywall for additional walls/ceiling, replacing entire basement floor with a new 3-4” concrete floor, re-wiring electrical outlets in basement and entire first floor, etc. New contracts totaled $22,132.90. New contracts were also created between August/September for more work at homeowner’s request totaling $9,195.00. With the additional amount, total projects costs were $31,327.90. Completion time was now 43 working days. All work performed was done according to industry standards and materials purchased by Ms. Honey Do were industry standard or higher quality. In fact, homeowner dictated the majority of what products Ms. Honey Do was to purchase. Any perceived mistakes by homeowner were immediately corrected, and at no time during performance of work did we attempt to hide any mistakes. Homeowner was immediately notified when mistakes were discovered. Homeowner reference a serious plumbing mistake that wasn’t caught until after concrete had been poured. Although not required and to appease homeowner, we did in fact hire another licensed plumber to inspect our work. He opened floor directly under toilet causing a 12”x24” opening and removal of approx. 9 floor tiles. Plumber found a clog in main drain system. After corrections were made, we asked homeowner to inspect the work while water test was being run. She agreed that water was draining properly and it was okay for plumber to close opening. Homeowner states “Ms. Honey Do tried to hide serious, dangerous mistakes. If the electrician hadn’t told us there was faulty wiring, we never would have known and it could have caused a serious problem.” In response, the electrician homeowner referenced was in fact an employee of Ms. Hone Do. Thereby homeowner had been notified of potential problems before work was done. Homeowner was included in all discussions of design and fixture placement. Homeowner took several hours or even 1 days to make design decisions. At start of project, homeowner agreed to initial bathroom layout so demolition began. The next day, homeowner stated, “I would rather expand the living space more even if we have to dig out more of the floor.” Without adding additional cost to homeowner, we willingly proceeded with additional digging. Homeowner attempted to get our employees to make unauthorized changes. We informed her that any contractual changes were to be discussed with Ms. Hone Do owners and not with its employees. Although homeowner insisted on contacting Ms. Honey Do via texting or phone calls after work hours, even as late as 2 or 3am, we still responded to her questions/concerns. We also had daily contact with her while MHD owners were on vacation. On several occasions, homeowner made derogatory comments to our employees. She was constantly physically intrusive and we had asked her to move out of the way and to stop using our tools while we were working. Homeowner stated, “It’s my house; I can do whatever I want.” Homeowner also demanded which of our employees would be allowed onsite and who should be supervised. Homeowner stated, “she was afraid to use everything in the basement.” On the final days of the project, homeowner moved in several of her belongs and was using the bathroom facilities. We had to move her belongs aside so we could continue our work. On last day of the project, the homeowner did not allow Ms. Honey Do to assess a sink drain pipe that she says was leaking. Homeowner was informed that we had everything in the truck and could do any last minute repairs immediately. Homeowner refused with no explanations. At that point, we stated the contracts had been completed and final payment was due. We believe we have fulfilled our contractual obligations above and beyond what was required and are entitled to payment in full for services rendered.

They re-tiled and re-modeled our entire shower base. They’ve done this in two bathrooms of ours. Originally, we hired them because it’s a small business run by women, and the experience has been wonderful. They’re responsive to any concerns and if something isn’t right, they will make it right. They’re clean and clean up well after themselves. We’ve used them several times, and we’re probably going to use them again with the next month!

They were recommended to me by the Howard County Office of Aging. This organization is almost 99% women, which I think is fantastic. They’re wonderful to work with! The experience went very well overall. I’ve recommended them to others and I’m likely to have more work done by them.
Description of Work: Both my wife and I are elder, so they evaluated our home for safety and made recommendations. They installed a railing going up the steps, placed things under our rugs so the rugs do not slide and did a few other things around the home.

They were wonderful! They listened to what we wanted and what we didn’t need. They were prompt and Pat even called to make sure we had all the paper work that we needed (we’re working with a specific type of loan, which can be difficult sometimes). The work seemed fine at first. Over time, it became clear the quality was low. The sheet vinyl is loose, they removed a door with no thought to how we would get new appliances in the kitchen, so we can't fit a new fridge in the kitchen even now. The drywall they installed cracked and they charged us to repair it. In general, they don't give any thought to the design or the outcome.

We selected this company because they provided, on their bid, some additional options for lower maintenance items (like a better grout) that others did not suggest. They were competitive on price and seemed the best mix of price and quality. Some of our bids included the components and some, like this one, had us buy the items ourselves. The contractor picked up the big items for us. A couple of hours at Lowe's convinced us that buying the components ourselves was a reasonable approach. When we had questions about their proposed solutions vs. what others suggested they gave good reasons for their choices and convinced us their way would work best. The work started on schedule and the workers were on schedule every day. They explained where they were in the process, what was going to be done next and, if they seemed to be quitting early, why they had to wait for something to dry or set before they could go on. They cleaned up every day and minimized as much as possible their intrusion into our home. We called them back a week after the job was finished when we noticed a small problem and they came promptly to fix it. We recommend Ms. Honey Do. We are very happy with how our renovated bathroom looks and how well the new components work. They did an excellent job for us and seemed committed to always doing first rate work.
Description of Work: Our job was a complete bathroom remodeling - removal of existing shower/tub and vanity - installation of new shower/tub and grab bars, new vanity and top and faucets, new plumbing as needed, a new tile floor, new electrical plugs, new mirror with lights, and towel racks, and etc. - plus patching and painting. From start to finish the job took nine business days - which is what they had estimated. There were almost no unexpected issues so there was almost no additional expense beyond the original bid amount. The one 'surprise' was when opening the wall showed an improperly installed vent - which was fixed for a very reasonable amount. We purchased the components (tub, vanity and top, mirror, etc.) we wanted at Lowe's which was an additional expense of about $2,200. All the plumbing and electrical basics and etc. the contractor supplied.

I chose them because they had done other much smaller jobs for me in the past and those had turned out well, but the kitchen remodel became a nightmare. It is painful even to think about it. I think that they do excellent work when the scope of the work is appropriate to the scope of their skills, abilities, time and experience. I think that this job was stretching them too much. I would not have them to do a major remodel job such as bathroom remodel at this point. There was one thing in this whole process which caused everything else to go south rather quickly, and that was that they recommended that I work with a cabinet supplier that they said they had worked with in the past. They only gave me this one name and they told me that I could get a discount by signing a separate contract with the cabinet supplier and not have them as their sub-contractor. This quickly proved to be a mistake. I signed a contract with the cabinet supplier and they repeatedly made mistakes and refused to correct them. They walked out on the contract about halfway through. I had no records and could not deal directly with the company with the company that they ordered the cabinets from and that company refused to deal with me without an intermediary. It was just awful. The cabinet supplier came here at one point and distracted me with some paperwork while they stole a sink from my kitchen that I had paid for. My daughter called the police and they showed the police a phony change order and the policeman believed them. There was only one change order executed in the life of that contract and it was not for a sink. Their behavior was totally awful but I kept holding back since I was the one who signed the contract. Ms. Honey Do did have legal representation but they were not willing to bear the legal fees on my behalf. My only recourse was to sue them myself and try to recover but this would have cost more money. The whole project quickly spiraled out of control. I feel as though Ms. Honey Do tried their best to rectify the damage that had been done but the damage was too much. I am now left with a kitchen that is less functional than the one I had before. There are mistakes that cannot be fixed. I had a bad experience but I don’t want to malign Ms. Honey Do as an organization. I liked them because they were woman-owned and that appealed to me and I had prior good experiences with them and that is why I hired them. I did not solicit a number of bids and then choose among them, which may have been another mistake on my part. They kept telling me that they had learnt so much from this experience, but I became the guinea pig in their learning process. It was always the customer's fault whenever there was a problem. We had to live for several months without even a kitchen sink. I had arranged for tiles to be fixed for the backsplash but they had placed the wrong order and it took many months to get that fixed. I was talking to them about the refrigerator not being properly placed the last day they were here and they just walked off the job saying that they had it. They had thought that the job would begin last March and end in that month itself, but it began sometime in September and ended two weeks ago. It was terribly upsetting, nerve wracking, depressing and inconvenient. I am getting another contractor to come and fix some of things that have been done wrong.
Description of Work: I had contracted Ms. Honey Do to do a kitchen remodel for me.
