Jay McIntyre was our point person and it took about a week to complete the job. Jay was really nice - he came in and checked on the guys. After the job was done, he did a walk-through with me to make sure I was happy -- which I was! Their price was also significantly lower than other estimates.
Description of Work: They pulled out the well-worn carpet in our finished basement and put in hardwood flooring. They also removed a structural column and boxed it in.

The project is still underway, but nearly complete (we are waiting for cabinets, but the demolition/reconstruction is completed). We have worked with other contractors, with whom we have been pleased and had a good relationship. This builder is special. It is a medium-sized firm with two principal partners, Jay & Tom, so there is always good coverage and oversight on the job. Their employees are exceptional; highly skilled and willing to do what we need. The proposal process includes detailed spreadsheets of costs, markups, and profit for each aspect of the work to be done. They hold a meeting with the designer and client every week to go over work done and to be done. All overages and undercharges are noted as we go, so there is absolutely no question as to the costs so that we can control what is being done. They have come on time every day, and Tom texts and/or emails to let us know if there will be a change, sending us materials orders before they are made so that we can review them, and is happy/willing for us to be as involved as we want to be (we are the type to keep a close eye on the budget as well as the quality of work). Tom and Jay have relationships with other providers, so we are using their cabinetmaker and countertop fabricator, which provides us with excellent pricing and quality work. Our architect/designer, Yoko Barsky (Deco Design Studio) has worked with them before, and they are coordinating very well. All in all, an outstanding experience. Recycling and eco-design are important to me, so Tom and Jay went out of their way to protect the contents of the old kitchen (cabinets, counters, appliances, sink, lighting, etc) for a week before I was able to get a building materials recycler to pick it all up. They clean up every day. Tom has worked with me to find the materials I wanted (his cabinetmaker is using FSC wood, the deck is recycled material, and the counter guys are getting Eco by Cosentino), as well as working with the electrical supplier to specify LED lighting. They are willing to learn about products and give me adequate time to select my finish materials.
Description of Work: Total kitchen renovation, including small addition in kitchen, some site work, adding exit and deck to adjacent room. Complete demolition, following through on permitting and inspections, new crawl space, roofing of kitchen area with addition, reconstruction. Worked with our architect/designer.
