From start to finish, I was very satisfied with the process. Bernard kept me informed by text and email. The entire crew was very professional and nice. The jobsite was kept clean and Jcabido consulted with me whenever any issues arose during the project. I will certainly use them again and have already referred them to a few friends.

I hired them at the end of November. The project had already been started by someone else. It quickly became clear that they were having issues pulling permits, so I hired Jcabido. I then had an architect do a design for the remodel so the proper permits could be pulled. It took them a while to schedule the permitting. I had to keep checking with them to verify if the permits had been pulled. I called Jackson on Monday, who said that they were scheduling the inspection. They didn't schedule it until Friday and they scheduled the wrong type of inspection. The inspector arrived. I was there and so was Jackson. Jackson did not have answers for the the questions that the inspector asked him. We failed that inspection. The inspector was so upset with the quality of the work that he said that if he came back and the work was still so poor that he was going to look in to their certifications and the licensure of their plumber. I asked Jackson if he had looked at the work. He admitted that he hadn't. He said he would fire the plumber, etc. A couple of weeks later, a second inspector passed it. Since then, we have had no inspections. Jackson said that he just wanted them out of there so that they could finish the job. Then the work started back up in January. I was responsible for purchasing all of the materials and supplies. He brought in a subcontractor to start the tile work upstairs. This was about 6 weeks in and suddenly I didn't have enough tile, even though I had the tiles there the entire time. This leads to one of my primary issues with this company. There was no planning ahead. All work stopped because of not having enough tile. I had to try to order tile, match the tile, etc. Once the tile, I ordered, arrived I was told they needed even more tile. In February, I hired folks to come in to do my upstairs floors. I gave Jcabido 7-10 days notice so the floor guys could come in. The morning that I came to let the floor guys in, there was water pouring out of my wall from the upstairs bathroom. I contacted Jcabido and told them that there was an issue with the plumbing. I had to turn the water to the house off and they couldn't come to fix the issue for 3-4 days because of the flooring. I then decided that I wanted to start actually moving my belongings in to this house. I gave Jcabido another date to be finished by. I was able to move in. However, there are a variety of things that aren't finished. I continue to have concerns about the plumbing. I had a master plumber come in and he advised that I shouldn't even bother having the walls closed as the work was not done properly. I have missed a good deal of time from work and will continue to have to put money in to this. The project was not properly resourced. There was never more than one person working at once. They were, by far, the most expensive quote that I got to do this job because I expected to get premium service with the premium price. I have verbally expressed my concerns and dissatisfaction with a number of issues and I never felt like I was taken seriously.
Description of Work: They were hired to remodel my upstairs bathroom and install a half powder room downstairs.

Response from Cabido Design & Build
This outrageous review and all of these FALSE accusations have come after YOU THREATENED US saying that if we didn't give you a discount you'd give us a bad review on Angie's List. You are demanding a discount because the job took longer than expected, however, the contract DID NOT STIPULATE A TIMEFRAME FOR THE JOB TO BE DONE. The job was delayed due to materials that we needed that YOU didn't provide, per the contract. Now, after the job is done, you come back and ask for a discount? You owe us for this job and you're refusing to pay. You were supposed to pay the second installment as stipulated in the contract, we asked for payment multiple times, you never paid, yet, we continued to work for you in good faith. You were supposed to pay the third installmend of the job after the job was completed, you never paid. You signed a contract with a set price, we did the work, and you haven't provided us with any documentation to prove otherwise. Over the phone you said that you had hired another contractor and they said there were a lot of things that were wrong with the job we did. However, you never provided us with any formal documents showing what these "wrong" things were. We requested a written document, not their verbal opinion, and you never responded, nor did you provide any documentation. Also, we're not responsible for the plumbing of the entire house, we're only responsible for the plumbing for the bathroom and the powder room we were hired for. The area that needs to be closed off can be closed off, all of the work we did is easily accessible via the furnace room. We've tried to meet with you to address any concerns or questions, we got no answer. You continue to owe us money for a job that has been properly completed. We offered to meet with you with a mediator, even suggesting that your father could be the mediator. You never answered us. If you refuse to talk to us, what are we supposed to do for you? WE WILL NOT BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. You must pay for a job that was well done, and completed in accordance with the contract, which you signed! These false accusations WILL be brought to light by the law. If you don't send full payment within 3 business days, we will take all the necessary legal actions to collect our money.

We'd had flooding in the basement several years ago ? as we were about 40% through finishing it - and needed someone to put things back together. I?d spoken with several contractors, including people others had recommended, and new contractors such as JCabido. From the first visit, Bernard and Jackson were straight forward and clear about what could be done and the options for getting the basement back in shape. They were thorough on going through and making sure they understood what I was looking for, and clearly had the experience to do it what I needed. They put together a very thorough estimate with clear costs for various pieces, including options for what could be included or left for another day based on my budget. Where JCabido really made an impression, though, was with their level of professionalism. Aside from being extremely nice and accommodating, they exceeded all expectations (especially after hearing horror stories about contractors from friends and acquaintances). They arrived when they said they would; they completed milestones when they said they would; they worked diligently, and cleaned up each day; any issues or concerns were immediately raised to our awareness; they genuinely cared about the quality of their work and made adjustments/corrections (which were very few) to our level of satisfaction. I also appreciated that they didn?t automatically do things based on our suggestions. There were a few ideas that I had that they cautioned would adversely impact the value of my home. I appreciated that they weren?t just after my money. As the JCabido crew worked, it became quite clear that the previous contractor (that had started finishing thebasement several years ago) had done a pretty sloppy job. They were able to work around our schedules as well, which was very much appreciated. Finally, after all the work was done, I had a few touch-up items, which they came out and did promptly and quite well. The finished basement is absolutely gorgeous, and I've already had friends over to show it off! I will say, JCabido wasn't the lowest estimate we?d gotten - they were in the ballpark, but a bit on the high side. It was absolutely worth paying a bit more for a contractor of this quality. I'm a big proponent of getting best value versus going for lowest cost. We have several other projects in mind for the upcoming year and will happily contact them again.

I'd had flooding in my basement several years ago, which lead to a mold problem that finally needed remediation. My basement is mostly finished, and after the mold was gone, I needed somebody to put the basement back together. I spoke with several contractors, including people I'd used before, and new contractors such as JCabido. From the first visit, Bernard and Jackson were straight forward and clear about what could be done and the options for getting the basement back in shape. They were thorough on going through and making sure they understood what I was looking for, and clearly had the experience to do it with aplomb. They put together a very thorough estimate with clear costs for various pieces, including options for what could be included or left for another day based on my budget. Where JCabido really made an impression, though, was when weather threw us a curve ball. After the first day of repairs (drywall, mostly), we were hit with a very heavy September rainstorm, which (ugh) flooded my basement again! I called Cabido and told them we'd need to hold off until I got it looked at more thoroughly, which they accommodated with no complaint. Jakson came out the next morning and took a look as well, identifying a serious crack in some exterior concrete that was letting water get to a hole in the foundation. He put down a quick concrete patch to keep things dry and together, and made recommendations for addressing the water issues. I also called several 'waterproofers', who came out and tried to sell me various expensive fixes (interior trench drains, exterior excavation and sealing). Frustrated, I finally called an independent engineer to come take a look. The engineer examined everything and identified the issue as mainly surface water intrusion, which could be addressed with grading and drainage - exactly what Jakson had said originally! I had Cabido fill the foundation hole, and they resumed work, getting the floors down and the doors fixed with respectable speed. They were able to work around my schedule as well, very much appreciated. Finally, after all the work was done, I had a few touchup items, which they came out and did promptly and quite well. The finished basement is now nice and livable, dry and good-looking, and I've already had friends over to show it off! I will say, JCabido wasn't the lowest estimate I got - they were in the ballpark, but a bit on the high side. It was absolutely worth paying a bit more for a contractor of this quality. I'm already talking to them about the work for exterior runoff management. I hope I don't need much more work, but when I do, JCabido will be my first call.
Description of Work: Basement refinishing - Patched (non-structural) foundation hole, replaced removed drywall, installed vinyl plank flooring on ~75% of basement. Adjusted basement door for better seal, replaced warped interior door. Performed emergency patch on exterior concrete holes. Performed other misc. upstairs drywall repairs.

I came upon this company by reviewing numerous contractors and I had a good feeling given the reviews I read. I had recently had a poor experience with another AL contractor so I was a little nervous. (BTW- another contractor estimated 3.5-4 weeks what JCabido did in 10 days). Bernard came to inspect the project requirements and provided a written estimate within 24 hours. I like the way he focused our discussion on what WE wanted and what were OUR expectations and best possible outcome. Things started good and only got better. The drywall job was challenging because of the many corners and angles given the dormers etc of this Georgian style million dollar home. These guys know their drywall to put it simply. Most of the time- there were 5 workers. Things went very smoothly and proceeded like clockwork. Trash and debris were hauled away quickly and never stayed outside for longer than 30 minutes. Materials came the same way - at the right time, a truck would arrive with the needed supplies and materials and they were quickly unloaded and taken upstairs. They worked hard and fast and cleaned up well after the day was done. Jackson would come by at the start or during the day to oversee and make sure things were proceeding according to plan. If something came up- the crew could contact Jackson or Bernard for direction. Nothing seemed to stall or even slow down given the proper management of resources and materials that was exhibited. Great project management! I am grateful this was a drama free experience. JCabido went over and above in a couple of areas with no additional cost- not even the mention of adding to the price quote given. First, the estimate contemplated R30 insulation in the ceiling and R19 in the walls. They decided to put the R30 everywhere- I think code requires R24 in ceiling. This additional expense and handling time was done at no extra cost to me. Next, the estimate contemplated reusing the original baseboard moldings. Once everything was completed it became clear the best option was to replace the moldings. Jackson discussed it with me and recommended the style and approach. Again, the materials showed up and were measured and cut outside and installed and later caulked. They look great and are very similiar to original. This added almost a day to the schedule. Again, a price increase was never mentioned and I still feel a little guilty. For instance- I had to add $1850 on the second day with my previous contractor! These guys know their stuff and aim to please. I want to affirm the original estimate was very fair- less expensive than some and just a little more than another. I could not be more satisfied. At the end of the project, 2 workers showed up and informed me they were there to "clean". They worked about 4 hours cleaning and moving furniture and wiping it down. They even removed the old carpet, pad, and tack boards in places it was not already removed. This was over and above and was the cherry on top for this project. I would highly recommend this company. I am more than satisfied with their overall performance, the skills they exhibited, the professionalism and courtesy, and the work ethic. I am going to take a break on the home improvements until after the holidays but will definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: Remodel top floor (attic level). Remove 1930's era fiber board (ceiling and walls) and install drywall in 2 bedrooms, hallway, and large closet. Remove and replace 4 six panel doors, wire and install 2 light switches, and install 3 light fixtures. Replace/Install moldings to match original style. Installed insulation in ceiling and walls after demo. Project was completed with painting (3 colors). The JCabido crew did a great job and exceeded expectations at every step- including cleanup. Oh yeah, they had to work around some furnishings and stuff. They never once complained about anything.

This company performed an outstanding job, they exceeded my expectations in customer service and overall professionalism with all repairs. They replaced half of my ceiling and walls in my bedroom and walk-in closet. Included were the replacement of rotten/damage wood due to water damage and carpenter ants/termites. I also needed new studs put in to allow for proper insulation, that job was executed in the proper manner. Superb customer service, I am looking forward to having JCabido to work on the next phase of my remodel. This company even caught other flaws that a previous company did, and rectified some of those issues. Thanks Again...looking forward to having you as my primary contracting company!!

Description of Work: J Cabido Remodeling did a wonderful job in repairing our 100-year old front porch. The porch columns and several floor boards were rotten and needed to be replaced. In addition, we had serious drainage problems with the gutters caused by settling of the porch over the years. We had several contractors provide estimates for the repair but none offered good solutions. Jackson know exactly what the problem was and offered an excellent remedy. We couldn't be happier.

They did an excellent job of communicating with us, including taking extensive pictures of problems for what they found in the walls. They offered a variety of solutions at a range of prices. They were easy to work with, clean and capable.
Description of Work: We asked them to come look at some drywall that was warped and paint 2 rooms in our house. They also fixed a stained ceiling and hung a new light fixture. Once they opened the drywall, they found water damage and inspected the external part of the house for a leak. They then fixed problems in the brick as well as patching a porch roof. This was all done on a 1920's row house in Washington, DC.

Overall, the project went very well. The price was quite reasonable compared to 2 other quote received from other Angie's List contractors. Bernard was thorough in his explanations and walkthrough. The total project took about 5 days from demolition, ceiling installation, lighting installation, drywall. My only complaint is the baseboards that were installed are ridiculously high. Now, I have to install additional shoe moulding in order for the room to look presentable. I would use JCabido again for future projects. However, the quality will have to be confirmed before final payment is released.

My ceiling was coming down as a result of a raccoon in my attic. I was nervous that it would come down any day since it appeared as if my ceiling fan was receding into the attic as the ceiling slowly came apart from the joyces over the span of two weeks. I immediately got on Angie's List where I found this terrific company. The lady who called me back in response to my inquiry, immediately sent out a representative, Bernard. He looked at the room and asked me what were my expectations. He listened to all my concerns, all my requirements and said he could help me immediately. Before his crew came out, I got into the attic to replace the insulation to save myself some money. I ended up falling through the ceiling so did not wish to potentially fall through it again once the new ceiling was up. Bernard and his team kindly installed the new insulation at no additional cost. His team of installers were exceptional. They were respectful, clean, organized, punctual and very skilled. Bernard personally inspected the end results and made sure I was satisfied. I would highly recommend this company and given their wide range of services, look forward to working with them again in the future on my other projects (including the unexpected ones).

Hello [Member Name Removed] You contacted us through the Angie's List message center asking for an estimate and we called you the same day. You asked for an estimate the same day or the next day. When we couldn't accommodate your schedule because we were booked, you became upset. So we gave you our next available option, and you said you didn't know if you would be home, but still wanted to schedule the appointment for a time when you may not be home. We apologized and explained to you that we couldn't make an appointment if you might not be home at that time, and kindly offered you another time. However, you still wanted us to make an appointment for the date/time when you didn't know if you'd be home. Then you started insulting the customer service representative because we couldn't accommodate your unreasonable requests. That is not how we do business. We go out of our way to make every client happy, but we cannot send employees out to a location where the client may not be home.

These guys did an excellent job with the drywall repair and working with us to make the most effective, long lasting, and cost conscious repairs of the leak. They also did a great job with painting--with two exceptions. The first was that they forgot to paint a hallway and I had to have them return. In all fairness, they completed a 5 day job in 4 days, so I admire the work they did. The second exception was experienced about 2 weeks after they had completed the job. I was moving a couple of pieces of furniture and realized that whoever painted the trim in the rooms with larger, heavier pieces of furniture, painted around the furniture and did not move it out to paint the entire room correctly. I contacted JCabido and within a week we had agreed they would return and complete the painting that was missed. I did not get any concessions, but I got a very sincere apology. Based on the quality of their work and genuine concern about getting things done correctly, I would hire these guys again. But I would supervise them more closely to make sure everything I expected to be completed was completed to my expectations.
Description of Work: The provider provided two sets of services. The first was a repair of the inside rear wall of our home. The drywall was experiencing a leak and crumbling in the corner. JCabido took down the drywall, identified the area where a leak was occuring, and worked with us through the repair. They also waterproofed the exterior wall and replaced the drywall. JCabido also performed interior painting services for us. They were hired to paint 4 large rooms from floor to ceiling, including trimwork and molding. They also painted all of the ceilings in the house and all of the trim, including crown molding, chair railing, staircase railing, and baseboards. They patched, sanded, and painted any rough areas prior to painting as well.

The owner of the company first took pictures of the roof to identify the need for replacement as well as the work done on an extension that had been installed by the contractor. We agreed on a price that proved to be relatively firm. The owner arrived promptly as agreed upon. His staff immediately went to work. The project took about a day and a half to complete, but the workers went on continuously. At the end of the first day, the workers left but my family did not suspect that we would be vulnerable over night. The second day did not consume the entire day. One worker, in particular, was especially capable of explaining the roofing process. Moreover, he was especially adept at allaying the concerns of the neighbors in an adjoining house. This was not the first time that the roof was replaced, and even from the ground, it is obvious that the current work was done in a manner to preclude bird nesting around the edges. Inasmuch as we are especially reluctant to climb the ladders to the roof, the roofers photographed every aspect of their work and it appears to be consistent from front to back. The ultimate test is of course the rain. Since completion, we have had one downpour but we have not detected any leaks or abnormalities. This includes replacement of two sky-lights. To date we would express complete satisfaction with the work.
Description of Work: The roofer completely replaced the entire roof including sub-standard work done by a prior contractor and two skylight

The job was very professionally done. The entire crew: tile men and painters were pleasant, punctual, hard-working, and excellent craftsmen. I would recommend this company to anyone. Bernard, in charge of the project, was responsive to every question and concern by phone and email even on the weekends. This was the best experience I've had with a contractor in the 30 years I've lived in this house. This house dates from 1922 and while it has many charms, it is also a challenge.
Description of Work: Provider demolished former leaking marble shower and replaced the shower.

Our project changed over time as initially we were only going to do painting/drywall repair work on the main floor. However, when we had an unexpected new project on the lower level, Bernard was able to quickly respond to our need for a new estimate and came out very quickly to provide a new estimate. I was especially impressed by his quick turnaround time with his email estimate. Additionally, the estimate provided all the details of the work to be provided- this was very important to us as a previous contractor had not done this and overcharged us as a result. Once we agreed to the estimate, the time to schedule and begin work was surprisingly short. The workers arrived early and stayed late, demonstrating a good work ethic. Everything was covered appropriately with dropcloths and plastic and the workers left almost no mess. The work was finished in a timely and satisfactory manner. I would not hesitate to use J Cabido again.
Description of Work: repaired holes in our ceilings on two floors (due to water damage and gas line installation) and painted both the living room/kitchen ceiling as well as the basement ceiling

The repair went very well. My insurance company had misidentified my ceiling as drywall, but Bernard (the manager) quickly sussed out it was actually plaster. No problem. They shifted gears without even blinking. The guys, Daniel and Luis, got to work on it while Bernard went to another site (he did check in, so he wasn't gone gone) and in about an hour or so, they had patched the hole and blended it seamlessly with the rest of the ceiling. They were efficient, professional, and pleasant to deal with. At no point did I feel like a nuisance they needed to shoo away or a rube they had to talk down to. Oh, and they cleaned up after themselves and left my place as they found it. It couldn't have gone any better. I'm just sorry I didn't share my review sooner. Time just gets away from you.
Description of Work: J Cabido repaired a hole in my bathroom ceiling. A toilet in the unit above me was installed incorrectly and had been leaking into my ceiling for years, unbeknownst to me, until my ceiling was so saturated it couldn't hold anymore water.

The offer didn't explicitly say that they could not do the job I was asking for, but I appreciated their consideration of it. In the end we decided not to proceed and they agreed to a refund promptly.

Generally they were great to work with. We had bought one of these Angie's list deals initially and they did some drywall work for us and we are so pleased that we met them as we were very happy with the finished product. Bernard was very responsive and communicative throughout the job. Jakson was a real professional. He clearly is an expert in his field. The crew they had were efficient and very friendly. There was an occasional language barrier but we worked through it all. While they are probably a little more expensive on the front end, I found the quality of work was excellent and they didn't nickel and dime us on scope items that weren't clearly defined at the beginning of the project. We've recommended them to friends and would use them again.
Description of Work: They performed a ton of work that was required due to a burst pipe. They replaced a drywall, did some plumbing work, took out a wall, put in a transfer beam, and did some painting.
