He came with a beautiful portfolio and great middle-of-the-road price. However he skimped on material and work. He used waferboard we had laying around for years as support under windows. Luckily we caught it and made him replace it with exterior plywood. He left holes in the old roof and just shingled over them rather than replacing the wood. He only used ice and water shield in the valleys and NOT along the roof edge. The roof actually had leaks before we moved in, but he never looked further into them. If there was a way to cut a corner he did it. We had an overhang for our bedroom that was to be supported by columns. These columns were not placed on the footings in the center, in fact one sits on the edge of the footing today. He had explicit instructions on the bathroom measurements for a vanity to fit into an area between a closet and a wall. Not only were the walls crooked, but the vanity would not fit even closely, requiring us to remove the plaster and shave the studs. He bought the cheapest no-name replacement windows for our existing first floor, which started falling apart less than 10 years later. These are just a few of the problems we have been experiencing. His work may look good at first, but it breaks down over time due to the poor quality of work and materials. Be careful, what you save now, you will only pay later to fix poor quality and material.
Description of Work: We hired Scott Seaver to raise our roof and put on a second floor.

Response from Seaver Construction
Since this review was posted, over the course of the past year, Seaver Construction has made numerous attempts to contact this client to see if we could address any of his concerns. The above review was posted in April 2015 for work that was seemingly performed almost 20 years ago (1996). In the past 20 years we have had no contact with the client and they have not responded to any of our recent inquires including multiple emails and voice mail messages. Seaver Construction takes pride in its work and the satisfaction of its clients. We will make every effort to achieve that. There is very little we can do when we don’t know about any client’s issues. Scott Seaver does not recall being approached by the client with any of the above concerns. We were paid for our work in full, which generally indicates the satisfaction of the client and have no issues on record from them. We are not certain of the reason for a review on work performed 20 years ago and have no way of addressing any concerns if the client chooses not to communicate with us. Many of our clients today are repeat clients and many are the result of recommendations they have received from other satisfied customers.

A well thought out proposal was presented to us with an acceptable explanation of labor and material costs. The work performed completely satisfied our expectations which in turn has led us to engage Seaver in more projects near term. Communication, courtesy and professional conduct come to mind thus far in our relationship. Looking forward to see this house built in the 1950s once again come to life!!!

The Seaver Company was professional in all areas - the project was well thought out and planned out by the employees used to complete the work. The carpenter was extremely neat in the completion and installation of the windows. There was very litttle concern about clean-up on the homeowner's part. They began the job in September and worked each day until the completion at the end of October. All inquiries by me were answered quickly and resolved easily. Their work would be well received by anyone who chooses to use them.
Description of Work: The Seaver Construction Company provided me with an estimate to replace 30 windows and siding as well as insulation on my home. In addiiton they also worked on a beam in the cellar. Their estimate was complete. After choosing them I was happy with the work that was performed. The final work showed very careful work and looked terrific, The final cost of the project came in under the estimated amount given to me. The work will definitely increased the value of my home for years to come.

They were very helpful in guiding us to pick out the cabinents, countertops, tile, etc that would give us the desired "look", that we were hoping for.
Description of Work: Seaver Construction gutted and then fully rebuilt our kitchen when we first moved into our Condo about 7 years ago. The work involved every aspect of a custom built kitchen, including a new hardwood floor. This job approached $40,000 and we were very pleased with their Professionalism and the quality of their work. As a result, we went back to Seaver in 2010 when we decided to rebuild two of our bathrooms and to renovate our larger Master Bath. Seaver gave us a competitive price and we were once again thrilled with their final product. They completed the project "on time" and "within budget". If we were to ever consider another major home project, Seaver would be at the top of our list to do it!

.When we first moved into our townhouse a few years ago, we had Scott Seaver come over to look at doing our kitchen over. He had some excellent ideas about how to proceed and we couldn't have been happier with the final product. This was a $38,000 project and everything went extremely smooth and as a result, when we decided to re-do our bathrooms a couple of years later, there was no doubt in our mind as to who we wanted to do the work. Seaver's pricing was fair and the quality of their work was outstanding. If we do any other projects in the future, Scott Seaver will be the first person that we call!
Description of Work: Seaver gutted and rebuilt our two Guest bathrooms and renovated our Master Bathroon. The work included carpentry, tile, and painting, all of which was self performed by Seaver's men. They also subbed out the plumbing and marble countertop work.

It went poorly from the get-go. There was some confusion about the project manager, who apparently left the company abruptly. Things went downhill rapidly. The project was to be completed in April and wasn't finished until August. It began in December of '03 and finished in 8/04! When I complained about delays, they sent me fruit. They also sent workmen on the weekend, who brought along their children. I should have complained, but I needed to get the project completed. Calls to the company didn't go well. Shortly after the work was completed I began having problems: The kitchen floor wasn't installed properly so the tiles cracked. The roof and particularly the skylight leaked. When the company was unresponsive, I reported them to the BBB. The contractor was furious with me, telling me that he was under no obligation to repair anything, since in Massachusetts, the work is waranteed for only one year! I have since had the roof replaced with a rubber roof. The three roofers I got estimates from told me that 1) the pitch of the roof does not meet building code standards, and 2) the wrong shingles were used. This is just the tip of the iceberg. There were so many things: I feel this guy had lofty ambitions...now I hear he has big state contracts. It doesn't surprise me...that's exactly where I would have expected him to be going. Totally underwhelmed.
Description of Work: This company put a 20X30 foot extension on my home. Including a high end kitchen with ceramic tile flooring, custom cabinets, granite countertops, and skylight. They also added a family room.

Seaver treated us professionally, answered our many questions and bore with us cheerfuly through changes in the design. At one point when we had some changes they included some work in their estimate that was not in the scope, and calculated costs incorrectly, but fixed the errors promptly. High quality work, done on time. Seaver used subcontractors but they did good work and Seaver supervised them properly. After the job was done I had one question related to their work but the project manager did not respond to my e-mails. They appear to be set up for bigger jobs that need more professional project management -- when I asked them to quote on a second, smaller job their price was much higher than the other bids.

We didn't have them do any work because they were so expensive. It was for a very small bathroom, and they wanted to do it for $80,000. We do live in the Boston area, but that was too much. They were very professional and on time, but way out of whatever we could afford at the time.

Al sent me a proposal within 2 weeks of his visit. I was happy with the proposal and the proposed cost. I tried to reach him on numerous occasions for some follow up questions but he never returned my calls. I spoke to a secretary on one of those occasions and she apologized and promised that somebody would contact me shortly. I never heard back from anybody. It's a total mystery why it ended that way.

They did an exceptional job. I had three estimates, and they were right on. Their prices were reasonable. They kept me informed of everything that was going on with the project and checked to make sure that everything was turning out the way it was supposed to. I choose them because they are a locally based company. They were punctual and professional. I would use them again for future work and have since referred them to others.
Description of Work: They remodeled a rec room for me. They took down a wall in a garage and made a large room out of it. They did this work about three months ago. They also put in an upstairs bathroom for me at that time.

The project took approximately one year due to the time frame of the subcontractors. Seaver crews were good but the electrical, flooring and painting subs were SLOW & unsatisfactory. The electrical company was not responsive to issues identified during the rough in and only came to rectify them after the painting was done. The painting crew worked quickly but were messy and only did one coat despite claiming they had done two. When the wood floor was finished, poly was splattered all over the new kitchen cabinets and they left many dings and dents from their sanding equipment. Communication between Seaver and the Subcontractors was poor. Project Manager (PM) and subs blamed and complained about each other to us. Scott Seaver was responsive to our concerns, but it seemed that the PM had too many projects to manage and lost track of the subs. The job was not being supervised well by the PM, as it was us who found the problems and reported them; we felt like PM's.
Description of Work: Renovation and Reconstruction. Early 1900 home needed new kitchen, and structural repair to second story room. Project involved removing an existing 3 season porch one the first floor, expanding the foundation, resupporting the second story, expanding a kitchen into a kitchen, mudroom, pantry and building a deck. Overall, added an additional 200 square feet, fixed major structural problems and built a user friendly, gourmet kitchen that fit with the time frame of the home.
Julio Serrano was the project manager who oversaw the restoration and he was wonderful; he kept it running beautifully. There were no delays on their part and they really made me comfortable in my home. They went out of their way to accommodate me every night before they left. They re-installed my toilet, so I would not be without one. They did this every night. They also dealt with my dogs that I have and handled everything really well. They were efficient, pleasant and very nice to deal with. They were also very knowledgeable and I am extremely pleased with their work and the outcome.
Description of Work: They completely destroyed my old bathroom and redid it all. They knocked down the walls and put up new ones and all new insulation. They put in new floors and tile as well. They also put in new marble countertops, a new toilet, bathtub and sink. They redid all new plumbing and woodwork.

A four to five month project took over 11 months. That should be enough of a warning. But I've got enough stories to last a lifetime. Their promises of completion meant nothing, and I had to tell them to leave, and negotiate a final price. By the time I paid the architects fees for negotiating with them, I received about .50 on the dollar as credit for the work Seaver didn't complete. There was absolutely no checking on the part of the project managers with respect to the work being done. A basement wall had to be rebuilt three times because they did not follow drawings they requested and for which I had to pay extra. I had to break into a finished wall to prove to them they did it incorrectly. A live, open electrical outlet was left lying in the loose insulation in the attic. Absurd comments from the project manager were similar to. Oh, yeah, I was disappointed in that, I don t know why they did it that way. No offer or attempt was made to repair the problem with the floor.
Description of Work: The renovation included basement and kitchen expansion and the expansion of the second floor. This included creation of two bathrooms and the expansion of one of the bedrooms.
