1. The quote we got for the cleaning said "heavy clean" of the walls and ceiling, but apparently all that means is a chemical sponge... It doesn't actually look any cleaner. This was incredibly misleading and deceptive as we were never told that it wouldn't actually look clean after they were done. The "heavy clean" cost over $250 and it literally didn't make the ceiling clean at all.
2. Cabinets, floor, light fixtures, smoke detectors were still dirty after the crew left. Another crew had to come out later in the week to finish. On top of the ceiling still being filthy, this was frustrating that they couldn't do the job on the first time around.
3. I called the owner to express my frustration with the job that was done but he never returned my call.
Overall we found Ace to be deceptive and not professional. They couldn't do the job on the first try, they didn't tell us that a "heavy clean" didn't actually mean clean, and the owner still has never called me back.
I would not recommend this company.
Also that day, repairable furniture was taken by a restorer recommended by Ace. I was not consulted before they arrived. In addition, a rug cleaner arrived and took my rugs to be cleaned before I was consulted. Luckily the rug cleaner did a good job. My furniture is still with the restoration company. Then, a portapotty was placed on the front lawn for the workers. Ace was told by my public adjuster that we would not be paying for that and it was removed after a few days.
The packout of my belongings went well and Ace stated that they would be taken to their facility to be cleaned, repacked and stored until I moved back into my house. However, I decided that I would move the packed boxes to my temporary housing as I would be charged for cleaning and storage. If you have a fire, beware. All these charges will come out of the contents portion of your insurance policy. You will still need money to replace the items that were lost and if your funds have been eaten up with these charges, you will have less money to replace your possessions. Several months later, I was contacted by Ace to see if we were ready for them to repair our home. We decided to demolish the house and rebuild. I was told by an Ace staff member that I had signed a contract to have them rebuild. On the day of the fire I had signed a contract that stated that they would repair our home. However, this contract stated only that with no prices or specifications of the work. The Ace staff member attempted to tell me that I was obligated to use them. Again, if you have a fire beware. You do not need to hire the fire restoration company to do your re-building and you should be sure to get estimates from several contractors before hiring Ace. My overall experience with Ace added to the stress of losing my home.
"We would like to respond to the negative review from Member regarding her experience with Ace Fire and Water Restoration. It sounds like the emergency services we provided in boarding up her property and packing her salvageable contents went as planned and she was satisfied. It’s our understanding that she has an issue with the specialty dry cleaner that she hired. I secured a copy of the job communication log report between the dry cleaner and Verba. She met with the cleaning representative personally on the day of the loss at 4:32 pm on May 1st, 2012. The log sheet states: “Met with the homeowner today and we have pulled out 50 bags and brought them down to her porch as she wants to go through everything and toss out what she doesn’t want to keep. We will need to return and pick up the items she has chosen to keep…she has “rush” but no set date of return. Some may not be salvageable.” Clearly, the homeowner was aware of what the dry cleaner was doing. I would like to set the record straight about the use of specialty cleaners and furniture restoration. The homeowner contracts with the specialists directly, not through our company. We can make a recommendation but it is the homeowners’ decision who they use. We receive no money for these services and they are billed by the specialist to the homeowner. Incidentally, this cleaner was a preferred vendor of Member’s insurance company. The cleaner goes on to detail a continuous correspondence with the homeowners’ insurance adjuster in evaluating the claim and delivery of goods. The insurance company ultimately decides how much they are going to reimburse you for your total loss items. It depends on your policy. You may have actual cash value or full replacement value. These values are not determined by the general contractor that you’re working with. Finally, in signing contracts with any restoration company for emergency services and rebuild at the time of the loss, it is standard procedure to put “TBD” or “to be determined” when you sign the contract you agree to the contractor evaluating, negotiating, and settling the amount of the claim with your insurance company. The contractor writes his estimate, the insurance adjuster writes his own estimate and then they negotiate the claim. The contractors’ priority is to restore your property to the pre-loss condition. When the number is settled the homeowner is given a copy of the estimate and a time table for payment. Sometimes the contractor waits a long time to get paid by the insurance company for the work they do. They are, in effect, financing your loss. That is why we have contracts in place. In this case the work by Ace was completed in May for the emergency services and pack out but we did not get paid until August and November, respectively. To conclude, we feel that Ace has been unfairly characterized by Member and we have many references from satisfied customers on our website at acefireandwater.com."
