Description of Work: I had couple of rooms that had drywall already installed but needed to be taped. The hours were completed in two visits. There was no need for the two visits as there was enough work (first layer of tape) to be done on the same visit, but he forgot to mentioned on the phone that he was only scheduling us for 2 hours at a time. | |The work could have been done better and there were always excuses. For example, there used to be paneling on the wall, so I missed taking several finishing nails off the wall (about 10 nails). He came to me and said that he could no longer work on that wall because of the nails. I asked him to wait a moment, I found my pry bar and took the nails off myself. It took me a total of 2-3 mins to do so. | |We are remodeling the entire house ourselves and we were looking to outsource some of the work. Therefore, we were using the deal to evaluate the contractor before committing to more. After the 4 hours were completed, we decided not to proceed with JP construction.

Description of Work: Great job! Saved us a lot of money. 2 other plasterers told us repairs could not be made with patch work. Recommended tearing out old plaster and replacing with new sheet rock. Jamie's repairs are solid! We had some problems on scheduling , but some of that was do to our schedule and vacation.

We originally contacted J P Construction to do some mason work, but when Jaime saw the scope of the job, he said there wasn’t enough time with the offer we had purchased. He offered to do some painting for us and we agreed. There was some spilled paint in a few places and Jaime couldn’t have been more apologetic. He immediately replaced a large indoor/outdoor mat at his own expense and cleaned up the other spills. I’m certain it was just an off day. Jaime was courteous, on-time and ultimately he did a fine job of painting. I would give him another chance in the future.

Jaime was great, came over and checked out what we had, which were a couple of closets that I had already installed drywall, and we agreed it was a reasonable amount of work for the price. We just needed the mudwork done to get them ready for paint. We we're not in a big rush and it is necessary for the mud to cure between coats for sanding, so he made multiple trips. He was very flexible and worked in a timely manner. He used his own mud and we bought a couple tubes of caulk for him to use. He also left us with a sanding block! Although it was a fairly used sanding block, all the reviews on AL need to be taken with a grain of salt. I'm not saying $129 isn't a lot of money but lets be realistic with expectations for $129. And if your going to be there with a stopwatch for 4 hours well then you're probably not going to be satisfied, no matter the accomplishment. I would also like to add (stating the obvious) when Angie's List, where can I review her btw, puts out a "big deal" you should temper your expectations further. Read the reviews and watch them take a hit when a service provider signs on to do one of their "deals" they are good for all involved I assume or they wouldn't continue but as the saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true...

We bought the Angie's List Big deal. It involved 4 hours of painting. Since I'm doing a lot of painting in our home by myself, I thought it would be good to have 4 hours of help. I do not have money to hire someone for longer hours. He was not interested in doing the job I wanted him to do (painting a ceiling). He said it would take longer than 4 hours. I asked him to come and paint an outdoor shed instead. We have contacted him twice about this other option. He hasn't responded. We feel that we've thrown our money (on the "big deal") away.

Jaime was great. We paid for 4 hours of drywall, but in the end he rebuilt the inside of our kitchen pantry for us. He removed some crumbling drywall - and then rightfully suggested it would look better if we just left the exposed brick behind it. He cleaned that up and rebuilt the adjacent shelving. And even though he didn't add any drywall in the end (because we left it with the brick) he applied our drywall coupon to the job. He did a great job, it looks beautiful.

The coupon was for $129 for up to 4 hours of drywall repair. The provider was here for about 2 hours. He did not stay and sand and put a second coat on -- instead he left a sanding block for my partner to sand down his work. The work he did, in the end, was fine. However while I was on a conference call for work and the provider was on his out the door, he required I pay an additional $25 for "materials" which he told me then was not included in the $129 coupon. I am 100% certain the materials did not cost him $25. I was not happy about the surpise cost and could not deal with the situation the way I would have if I had not been on a conference call for work at the time.

Jamie has the skill to be a good painter. He did an excellent job along the ceiling line, which was important to me. No one wants a crooked ceiling line especially when the white ceiling is set against a very dark wall. He did not show up for our first appointment on July 29. I called him when he was a half hour late, got his voice mail and left a message asking when he was arriving. He showed up 10 minutes later and rushed up to me saying "I wasn't sure if I was supposed to be here today." He told me it was a bad week for him with lots of family issues. I was understanding and we made another appointment for August 1 at noon. On August 1 he called me in the morning to say his day had opened up and he could be at my place by 11:00. He showed up at 1:30. He brought me a plant to make up for being late. We discussed the final details of the job and he set to work. While he was applying the first coat of paint, he kept getting texts and seemed concerned by them. When he finished the first coat, he said he would have to come back THE FOLLOWING WEEK to do the second coat because the paint wasn't drying fast enough. Since this was already the second time I had moved all my living room furniture, I was not happy with having to do it still again, or have my house in chaos till he came back. I turned on the A/C and put a fan on the wall and it dried quickly and he finished the second coat. However, since he was then in a hurry to get done, he did a very fast second coat. He missed a lot of spots which I had to touch up the next day. He also got sloppy because he was working so fast, and he dripped dark purple paint on my light beige carpeting in several places, and got paint on walls which were not supposed to be painted. When I asked him to clean the stray paint marks, he gave me a sanding block and told me to sand it off the next day! (I tried sanding off the dark paint but the block began taking off the white paint as well, so I stopped. Now I just avoid looking there.) We agreed that he would come back on Friday August 9 to do the trim. He never showed up. I used JP Construction because there was a Big Deal for 4 hours of painting for $129. I was looking for a painter to do several rooms, and this was a good way to try out someone without having to spend a lot of money. There is a glowing review for him on a $5000 job. Maybe he just didn't think my $129 job was worth the trouble. Whatever the reason, he was consistently not punctual and did not finish the job. He did 2 hours work and it took me longer than that to touch up what he missed and clean up what mess he made.

They were wonderful. He is excellent. He was very thorough and reasonable. He gave us a quote and then he added in additional things free of charge. We are going to recommend him to any other friends that need painting or carpentry in house work. He will definitely get top marks. We used him in the past week.

Jaime Pena stopped in right after we purchased the deal on Angie's List to give us an estimate. We felt his estimate of $650 for the complete job with purchase of paint was fair. We had to wait until our new toilet and sink were ordered and our old ones removed before we could have him do the job. He was very accomodating when we notified him of the week we would like the work done. He showed up when he said he would and did the prep work on a Friday afternoon. Then he returned Saturday morning and worked into the afternoon until the job was completed. We are very pleased with the results. We have asked him to come back in a couple of weeks to paint the walls in our bedroom. Jaime is very personable and a pleasure to do business with.

He agreed to show up yesterday, and that took three calls to get him to commit, then he didn’t show. I called him and he told me he had another job he was at and could come out at 8 pm. The day I bought the deal he called me at 10pm at night, while I was heading to bed. He called me again the next night again around 10 pm because he forgot he’d called me the night before. He’s inconsistent, unreliable, and inconsiderate. He calls too late at night.

It went wonderfully. I had just had a terrible experience with a painter and wasn't looking forward to working with another contractor. Jaime was polite, professional, and his work was impeccable. He even finished off a hallway wall that wasn't part of the contract. I would definitely recommend him highly and use him again.

Jaime scraped, plastered, sanded and sealed water-damaged areas of the ceiling. He then painted the entire ceiling with two coats of paint. We were extremely satisfied with the completed job and intend to get prices and hire him for several more jobs. He is very neat while working and cleaned up each day before leaving. His work is meticulous and we found him to be honest and trustworthy. We would recommend him without hesitation!

Mr. Pena responded quickly when I contacted him and provided an estimate after he came to look at the job. His quote was very reasonable compared with other quotes we received. Mr. Pena worked quickly and efficiently and replaced our old fences and two of the posts with a beautiful new wooden fence in the backyard and a gate in the front yard. We are extremely satisfied and will definitely contact Jaime to help us with the next project. His attention to detail is amazing.

On the interior work, he did such a flawless job, you can't even see where any of the patchwork starts and ends. He came back and worked late into the night to make sure everything was done to his exacting standards (he exceeded mine). He stuck to his quote, even when the job proved much more extensive than he'd anticipated. I felt obliged to give him extra given all the extra work he put in. He did such a good job, he was my first choice to complete a major structural renovation to the supports for our front porch. His quote was again lower than the other two estimates I got, but he explained how he planned to approach the project, which was far more thorough that what the other two contractors were planning to do for higher estimates. The porch is now rock solid and fully compliant with the current building code. Whether it's major structural repair or detailed finish work, I can't think of a harder working contractor eager to do the job right. His quotes are beyond reasonable, and he sticks to his word.
Description of Work: Jaime patched our old horse hair plaster walls, which received extensive damage from an electrical rewiring performed by another contractor. He also replaced the horsehair plaster ceilings in our 90+ year old house in the upstairs hall and bathroom with drywall, which included the ceiling over our stair well. In a separate project, he rebuilt the structural supports under the enclosed front porch on our house, which includes load-bearing walls for the house. Most of the original supports for the porch had disintegrated with age, and the spans used in the original construction were insufficient by today's codes. He installed concrete footings, pressure treated timbers and braced the entire structure to bring it up to the current code.

Mr. Pena is extremely professional and courteous. He provided great customer service. He arrived quickly to provide an estimate for the work and the amount charged was exactly what he quoted. His price was very reasonable for the excellent quality of his work and how quickly he finished the job. Our front door, entryway and two rooms upstairs look beautiful. He smoothed out the walls and the new ceilings and the rooms now look like new. Mr. Pena's attention to detail, the excellent quality of his work and the speed at which he was able to complete the job were amazing. We will definitely hire him again for any future projects.
