Gentle Giant Moving & Storage Somerville

It was great, as always. Four very professional men showed up on time and worked extremely hard. They did exactly what I asked and didn't complain when I asked that some furniture be moved around. They dropped an antique and immediately explained that they'd fix it - before I had a chance to complain. I've used them several times before and always had the same quality experience. The pre-sale people are great and the follow-up is also great.

We were thrilled with the experience and would absolutely use them again. We've also already recommended Gentle Giant to other people we know who are planning to move. The staff who answered the phone were very professional and friendly and made sure to confirm everything with us in advance of the move. The crew who moved us were prompt, reliable, extremely polite and pleasant, and very conscientious. All of our stuff arrived intact, and no walls got marked up as they went up and down stairs. In short, they made what is typically a very stressful experience as easy as possible.

They are great, fast, and careful with your belongings.

They gave a detailed estimate and showed up on time the day of the move. They were very pleasant and professional, checked around the place I was vacating before we left to make sure I was happy with its condition. At the new place they not only put things in rooms, they checked with me about furniture placement and made some suggestions for pieces I didn't know where to put. All in all a very positive experience.

These guys did a great job from start to finish - really great. They were hustling from the van to our apartment, up and down stairs and up and down a hill to load in the furniture. They were breaking a sweat like crazy to keep things moving. They were super nice, really professional and we didn't have any complaints. They arranged for the police detail to block off the street so the crane could remove the furniture from the windows - quite an ordeal, but they got it done.

They did a great job. I found them very gentle and polite.

The Gentle Giant movers arrived right on time. Steve Crays and Greg Dayon were helpful and profession throughout. They quickly and efficiently moved our boxes and furniture out of our old apartment and into our new house. They were very careful with everything. The move went perfectly.

Gentle Giant came out and gave us an estimate six weeks before we were to move. After inventorying the house the estimated price was within the range of others. A couple of weeks before the move they dropped of moving boxes and supplies and we began to pack some of our stuff ourselves. Their website had good videos to watch demonstrating how to pack various types of things, which was very helpful. The day before the move a 3 person crew came to our home and packed the entire remaining household stuff. They were ruthless and efficient, packing everything that was not nailed down in six hours. The day of the move a 5 person crew showed up right on time and quickly packed our house into their two trucks. The guys were terrific! Once they drop off a box on the truck they RUN back to grab the next item. We were packed up by lunch, and after doing a thorough walk through of the house to make sure nothing was missed, they headed off to our new house, which was less than a mile away. Same fast efficient service unloading the items into our new home. They made sure to ask exactly were we wanted the furniture placed in every room, and moved things around until it was just right. After unloading everything they went back to the old house to pick up our huge swing-set (I only had to disassemble it into the major components) and brought it to the new house. Everything was finished by dinner. What a great experience! The crew members were polite and took the time to ensure that we were completely satisfied with everything they did. I hope we don't have to move again for a long time but I would absolutely use Gentle Giant again.

Excellent move. I've moved 10 times in the past 8 years in various states. Gentle Giant was by far the best moving company and had the best moving crew I have ever encountered. I usually dread moving because the movers always damage my furniture in some way. This was the first time that didn't happen. I was thrilled. The guys were good-natured and professional. It was a great experience.

The representative seemed to know what he was doing as he surveyed our house to make the estimate. I received his estimate a few days later. The amount was twice as much as the other companies (which had very similar amounts). I emailed the representative inquiring why his estimate was far more than the others and he responded I shouldn't compare apples with oranges (whatever that means). I decided upon one of the other companies and emailed Gentle Giant's rep. as well as the other competitor about my decision. From Gentle Giant I heard nothing more; from the other competitor I received a very gracious note thanking me even though I had chosen another company and wishing me a good move.

I am so pleased with Gentle Giant! They were so much better than I ever could have hoped for. I first spoke with someone in sales, I believe. She was very nice, and very patient as we tried to inventory the items to be moved. This was potentially tricky, since this wasn't the type of move where everything went into the truck. I did my best to remember everything that had to be moved, but realized afterward that I had forgotten some major items like couches in the basement and had way overestimated the number of boxes we had. This ended up not presenting a problem. She had sent me an email with an inventory list that I faxed back to them. It didn't change the estimate of $2200-$2700. I was then passed on to a move coordinator, who verified the info. She asked if we could move to a different day to make things easier for them, but when I couldn't it wasn't a problem. The crew was to arrive at 7:30 am the day of the move. They were there at 7:00 am, which was fine by me. We were ready to go. Tom and his crew came in and introduced themselves, and I showed them everything that needed to go and what needed to stay. They got to work immediately, hustling up and down stairs, taking incredible care with everything. When I remembered something that I forgot about that needed to go, I told a crew member who related it to Tom, and they handled it in stride. Crew members would politely ask me if they were unsure whether something should go or not. The crew was exceptionally well mannered, friendly, and never let slip any sort of language that could be called even coarse, which was nice compared to other experiences we've had, particularly with our two young girls around. It was a fairly local move, so the crew got to the new house, emptied the storage units, and were considerate enough to ask if they should wait on moving the baby's furniture, as she might be taking a nap. I agreed that it would be very nice. I was astounded that I didn't have to ask! After emptying the units, they took an hour lunch. They returned and continued their strong work, assembling tables and beds, arranging furniture in rooms. They were, to my utter amazement, done before 3:30 pm. They came in UNDER estimate. I got more than what I paid for. Everything arrived safely, and undamaged. No walls dinged, no floors scratched. Just amazing work. I would recommend these guys (particularly Tom and his crew from the Franklin, MA office) to ANYONE. What a positive experience!

The move went very well. The estimate was professional and everyone we talked to was very professional and consistent. Other moving companies we got estimates from were unprofessional, or we had multiple people calling from the same company giving us different quotes or trying to upsell things to us. Gentle Giant was more expensive than the other quotes, but by far the most thorough and up-front about everything, there were no hidden costs. When the movers arrived right on schedule they quickly setup and did a walk through. They didn't try to sell us anything extra or perform extra services. They quickly got to work and managed to fit a ton of stuff into the truck, we were really impressed at how fast they moved and how quickly, yet gently they moved large pieces of furniture. The movers literally ran back to the house to pickup more items. They were able to move an entire 1500 sq ft 3 bedroom house into the truck in about 2 hours. They were similarly quick when unpacking and were very professional and easy to deal with. There was one incident during the move where a wall was damaged. Gentle giant was easy to deal with and re-reimbursed us for the cost of the repair to the wall and was very responsive, resolving the issue within a day. Overall, we wish that we had them move everything (we did a few items ourselves the day before). We're happy that we went with a well known company and it made the experience very pleasant and worry free. We would use them again and recommend them to others who are looking for a high quality moving company that doesn't play any games. The end cost was about 30% lower than the estimate, though that was likely because we moved some items ourselves.

The move into my new house by 4 Gentle Giants went so well that I am considering moving again next summer just so I can use them again!!!! 4 young fellows showed up on moving day right on time, with smiles on their faces that did not diminish as I toured them through the house, up and down narrow and then narrower and steeper staircases as we reached the third floor. They did not grimace, they did not complain, their spirits did not diminish then or throughout the day. They treated my furniture, boxes, newly painted walls and refinished floors with the same respect and care as I do, leaving not even a single mark on a any wall. When items were too large to fit up the staircases they wrapped them in packing blankets, taped them up, secured them with straps and carefully hoisted them with brute strength up through the second and third floor windows. Ned, who was the leader of the 4, directed his crew so very well and took care of them as he did me. They worked as a team... took care of each other, were generous and kind, AND they would not let me move a thing, not even a little thing, as that was their job as they told me. They endured moving many boxes of books around the room to be my office again and again as I tried to figure out the furniture arrangement and remained so good humored about it. Their energy never flagged... I NEVER at all felt stressed or worried as they moved many antiques into my house either via those narrow staircases or in through windows. In addition to being absolutely tremendous movers they were polite, pleasant young men. I cannot recommend them highly enough. (oh, and they did all this within 6 hours time!)

Gentle Giant sent an estimator out promptly. We were given an estimate of around 5000. The actual moving price was a bit less (we hauled a lot ourselves). The crew on moving day was fantastic. They were energetic and professional. There were no damages. The only disappointment was that the estimator claimed that moving a room full of fitness equipment was no problem. On moving day it was a problem. The moving crew did not feel capable of doing the disassembly of a weight machine. It would have been much more helpful to have this understanding ahead of time. Otherwise, this is our 2nd move with Gentle Giant and I think they are excellent.

We are so glad we picked Gentle Giant. Everything went so smoothly, and the men were so very careful and professional - and Creative! When a very heavy and gigantic desk wouldn't fit through the door of its intended destination, they were able to disassemble it and reassemble it in the office without a hitch. Moving is stressful, but these men really helped diminish the pressure. They are a bit pricier than other estimates we were given but worth every penny. We will call on them again and recommend them to anyone needing movers.

I asked for some clarifications to try to understand how they got where they did. They ended up reducing the quote marginally (without really clarifying how they got to such a big figure in the first place). I finally gave up trying to work with them, despite their excellent reputation.

Making the reservation on the phone, the woman had me walk through each room and describe what was there. This helped her estimate the amount of time for the move as well as cost. It was pretty spot on to what she said. Before the move, I utilized moving supply company to have some wardrobes delivered and packing paper. Delivery is free if they only come once. Anything you don t use goes back with the crew and you don t pay a charge. I had them both deliver wardrobes as well as bring some the day of and returned them all on the day of the move, thus only incurring a rental fee vs a purchase fee(IE cheaper). Two days prior, they called to confirm. Was told that the guys would show up between 8:00 am 8:30 am, they should up at 7:50 am, and started promptly at 8:00 am. There were 3 guys and one truck. My big stress was that I have 2 cats which are older. I had them in pet taxis, but they were pretty traumatized. As a result of reading someone else s review, I knew to ask the movers if I could load up my bedroom last, and unload it first. No problem! they said. The guys moved fast, and had the truck loaded by about 11:30 am. This was a good stopping point for lunch, but they went to the house first, unloaded and set up my bed, so that I could lock my cats in my bedroom and let them out of the cages (and hide under the bed). This little point was awesome and allowed me and my cats to relax for the unloading after lunch. Throughout the move, it literally poured rain off and on. I have quite a few antiques, and they somehow managed to keep them all dry and unharmed. Mother Nature also helped in magically halting the rain each time they had to hoist my 2 ton piano! All in all, great experience, and would use them again. They may be pricier than other companies, but it was so smooth, I really didn t care.

They are quick, young and vibrant and they are caring and do great follow up and pick up and drop off boxes really well. I would recommend them and they are just so good.

We packed the boxes but they moved the furniture and the boxes and they were very careful with our possessions. When we were at the new place they unloaded the furniture and put it where we wanted it. They were professional and friendly. They were quick but thorough. They gave me an estimate and it was accurate.

They did a very good job and things went very well. We had to move and did not have a lot of time to do it and they were the only company that would move us on that short of notice. One of our filing cabinets got slightly damage but they made sure we got reimbursed for it. It was a very satisfying experience.

They were fine, the crew that did the delivery was great, although they had some problems with the timing. The crew didn't deliver the day they said they would, but when they got here they did the service quickly, and were very professional.
