Gentle Giant Moving & Storage Somerville

My interaction with them was excellent. Nothing seemed to be a problem for them and even though they said that I needed 1 truck, they scheduled 2 trucks and were not going to charge me for it. They have a moving specialist who will answer all questions. Their quote was $1800.

I had about two bedrooms worth of belongings to move. They provided a quote with a general price range. Their hourly rates were fairly expensive. Therefore, I decided to move in the middle of the week versus the beginning or end because that was less costly. The final price that was charged was at the lower end of the price range they quoted. They arrived on time the day of the appointment, and they were very professional.

Gentle Giant was amazing! They were professional, careful, friendly, easy-going, on-time -- and exceeded our expectations by finishing the job earlier than promised and 25% lower than the estimate! We got estimates from four movers and Gentle Giant had the second highest bid. But based on the recommendations of several friends and our real estate broker, we chose them -- and are so happy we did. The Giants worked so well with us, to do everything from pack up our fragile artwork to clear out the remaining junk in our basement. They were extraordinarily friendly, too. We were amazed at how quickly they worked, saving us more than $2000 in the end. Such a stress-free move!

They did what they were supposed to do. They moved efficiently and safely. Nothing was broken during the move and they did a good job.

Having had two very bad moving experiences (where I served both with legal papers and settled out of court), I was determined to only go with a company that had been recommended by personal contacts. Gentle Giant came highly recommended, although I was warned of the price shock. If my company hadn't been paying for my relocation, I wouldn't have been able to afford it. Nonetheless, I am very pleased with the move. They were very professional, came fully uniformed, and completed the job in a very timely manner. My one gripe was that they initially said that booking them required a 10% deposit and that I would need to render full payment to them 24-48 hours before my goods were delivered at the destination. The requirement to give them 100% payment up front without my goods in hand made me very uncomfortable (and seemed unusual), especially given my previous moving experiences. I was able to get around this by having my job pay them directly, so they didn't require a deposit (just a credit card just in case) and are going to invoice them now that my move has been completed. That having been worked out, I have no complaints about the service. Everything was delivered and appears to be in good condition. One of my reasons for choosing them is because I heard that even if something went wrong with the move, they are quick to fix / replace / reimburse. I don't have first-hand experience of this aspect of it yet, but it gave me confidence in the company.

Gentle Giant moved us more than 5 years ago. Everything went perfectly. They were expensive, but a good value for what they charged--more efficient and better organized than the military. Truly a calming influence on a hectic moving day. In the intervening years, I've called them about other things, and have noticed a lot more emphasis on "rules' and "policies' and "procedures" than I remember from my move. In any case, I called again this year to ask for an estimate on moving the same possessions. My inventory was still in their database, so they could review with me exactly the items they needed to move. Except now, they wanted $5000+ to move them. I guess that's fair, now that unemployment is at 0%, the stock market is at 30,000, and the government is giving away million dollar checks to everyone. Oh, wait. Anyway, I went with another moving company, which is charging what Gentle Giant used to charge. At some point, it's just seems cheaper to replace your furniture than hire Gentle Giant to move it..

Incredibly expensive - I saved over $1000 by going with a different moving company!

My price is a guess on this because it's going back several months, but I've used Gentle Giant for 2 moves now and would call them again if I needed moving services. They are always prompt and professional, the team is always very courteous and organized. They work quickly and efficiently. I recommend them to everyone. They are masters of figuring out how to make things fit through the tinest door way or stairwell. I was really surprised to read a bad review and don't quite get it, because they figure out the payment due right then and there and you pay it so there should be no room for dispute... Anyway, at least in my experiences they've always been stellar and are a vendor that I felt should be commented on.

Setting up the move was extremely easy. The salesperson asked very detailed questions about our items, the locations we were coming from and going to, and any special items that needed particular attention. Our crew, led by Buster, was from Beverly, and they were fabulous. They were extremely careful, thoughtful, and efficient. Everything arrived in perfect condition, and boxes were carefully placed so we could move around the house while unpacking. And despite the length of the move (about 7 hours of prepacking, 7 hours of loading, and 5 hours of unloading), they remained remarkably cheerful and courteous throughout the entire process. In Lexington, the crew was unloading until 9 pm at night, after having already worked other moves that day. These guys are tireless! I just can't say enough good things about them. We also intend to have Gentle Giant take back our boxes once we unpack.

This company is great! I was impressed from the day I first contacted them. I'd called a couple other places first and wasn't too impressed. Then I called Gentle Giant. The person I spoke to took all my information, and gave me as much info as she could. She told me that Scott (I think that was his name) would call me within a day and give me more info on the actual move. All calls were prompt, efficient and friendly. Questions were answered no problem. Move day was so smooth, I hardly knew I was actually moving. I got a "heads up" call from Steve (again, not sure of the name) who told me they were close by. These guys were great. Helpful, well trained and pleasant to work with. The move out of the apartment was uneventful (they even moved some stuff I didn't want to the curb for me). The move into the house had two issues with the size of the furniture versus the amount of room they had to get it to its final room location, but these guys did it. It took a bit of josling here and there, but they were great. Although I don't plan on moving again, I'd recommend this company in a heartbeat! Great job from start to finish! And, the price came in under estimate.

They did a great job. They took the time to wrap the furniture securely and carefully. Very professional, friendly and considerate. They kept asking if there was anything else they could do for me, if I needed the furniture rearranged or if I wanted them to grab the stuff from my car. They moved quickly and efficiently and the move went quicker than I thought it would. They charge a little more than the other companies but they were worth it. If you have furniture you care about, then these are the guys to call. I would recommend them to anyone who is moving

I've used professional movers many times, and Tim and his crew were by far the most careful, attentive, and professional movers I've worked with. I own antiques, including a fragile grandfather clock that a previous crew had damaged, so I was understandably nervous about the experience. But absolutely everything came through without a single scratch! Jay, Dan, and Chris helped pack, which took most of one workday (many books and three china sets), and then Taylor took Chris's place for the actual moving, which took most of the following day. Paying for a top-rate crew is never fun, but once you have grown-up furniture it's well worth it -- and, with a larger operation like Gentle Giant, you have an extensive and experienced support staff to handle the other details, from the spot-on estimate to scheduling. Thanks, Gentle Giant! I will definitely use them again.

Packing went quickly. One of the 4-5 guys was fairly new and packed some fragile items poorly, but the other guys were great. The move itself was like clockwork, extremely efficient. They moved an upright piano, some large heavy furniture, etc. The guys were strong, careful, and really fast. I am very impressed. Afterward, there was (inevitably) some damage, nothing major. The quality assurance department was VERY SLOW to respond to our issues. It is now six months later and they still have not delivered some of the repaired items to us. This flies in the face of their great reputation.

Their estimate was the best of anyone else we looked into. They got our goods moved without any damage or losing anything. We would be happy to use this company again in the future.

We were very impressed with the actual movers from Gentle Giant. The four guys showed up at the house on time, and did not stop working until the job was done. These guys actually run from the truck to the next item that needs to be moved! Two of the movers have been working for the company for over 10 years which says a lot about the company. The only complaint that we have is that salesman who came to the house to give us a quote was really bad at following through. He promised the quote by the next day and I ended up having to contact him a few days later to ask for the quote. When I contacted him to ask some questions he never bothered to get back in touch with me. I was really not impressed with him, but I am very glad that we used the company, because the movers are amazing.

They were excellent. They were efficient, came on one day and packed up the entire house, wrapped things around and moved us the next day in a very professional and organized manner.

It went well. Matt Lowery came to perform an ih-house estimate of moving costs based on my furniture and belongings. He was very professional and personable, and I feel that he gave an accurate estimate of cost. However, Gentle Giant had some strikes against them, mainly in the way they do business. The largest was the fact that they use tractor-trailers, then charge an extra $400 for a "shuttle" truck if their semi can't fit into your location. I imagine they make a lot of money that way, particularly in the Boston area, where streets are narrow and parking can be almost non-existent, especially for a trailer. I didn't think it made sense for a local mover to operate that way; they should know better. Their estimate was higher overall than the other two companies that I compared. The one I ended up choosing runs on basically the same business model (except for the big trucks), but does not charge for fuel and other things that increased the price on the GG quote. I felt overall that I would not get the kind of service from GG that I was really looking for, and I did not end up using them.

The appointment with Gentle Giant went fine. Very professional and informative. The problem was that their estimate, that they provided the following Monday was approximately $1,800 more than Marathon Moving.

Team of 3 was extremely profesional and punctual. They were very careful w. all furniture, flat screen TV, wine fridge,... I highly recommend this company. It is a little bit more expensive than other moving companies, but so worth it!

They were very professional on the phone. They called and gave me a reminder a week before the scheduled time. We had to reserve the elevator and were only allowed a 4 hour window. The company moved every single item and stayed within the time restrictions. They had to work in the rain, but they did everything they could to protect my furniture. The guys really hustled and were very polite and respectable about my stuff. I wondered at one point about their lunch break. I feel they were on my clock and they were taking a little longer than what I would have liked. I was paying them hourly, so to me it seemed to make a difference. Overall, they did a wonderful job, and I would use them again.

The manager and crew were right on time (early) and quickly went to work loading boxes - they move fast!!! Communication was excellent and great care was taken to protect our items. It was a very hot day but the crew worked hard throught the day.

It went well. They were friendly, efficient and helpful. Their packing skills are phenomenal. I would highly recommend them for packing.

The pickup was handled well and communication with the staff seemed OK, but the delivery was handled poorly. Our condominium has a loading dock that can be reserved from 8:00 am to 12:00 or 12:00 to 5:00 pm. We picked the afternoon since Gentle Giant was unable to even leave the garage until 8:00 and we were afraid that they wouldn't finish before the 12:00 time when someone else could reserve the loading dock. They said that they would give us priority for an afternoon delivery but they didn't arrive until 3:00 pm. We called many times looking for an update and an effort to expedite the delivery but were told that they had mechanical problems. When they arrived, we were informed that they went to a second place before us and that there were no mechanical problems. A few items were broken and most were repaired as part of their insurance, but the turnaround time was much longer then stated. One heavy television cabinet was taken apart to move but was not put together correctly. The people on the job were personable and the original phone contacts were handled well, but all contact to expedite the moves or correct problems were brushed off.

I can't say enough good things about this company. After moving several times and frankly always trying to save money while moving, after repeated back experiences my husband and I chose to go with the best and we were not disappointed. The guys are professional, they know how to move through these crazy Boston apartments with their narrow hallways. And these guys hussled, non stop, they were by far the best and worth every penny.
