We signed a contract for 4275.00 for all of the work detailed in it with the expectation that the job would be completed in 5 days (according to them). Labor and materials were included in this price with exception of our existing pavers that we had left over from the original walkway that he was going to match. We paid a 2200.00 deposit for this job. The contractor brought his OWN tractor to the job and left it at our house for the length of the job. The contractor worked 3 part days (6 hours the first day and just a few hours the other 2 days) and a few days that he didn't show up at all. After telling him that we wanted to install the same pavers we had on the existing patio and where we got them originally, he told us that he could get them from his own guy. After a few days of them prepping the areas (which he didn't do correctly and I had to pay someone to redo what he had already done) he told me he ordered the pavers and that they were gray and it would match our wall nicely. The existing pavers and wall are beige, not gray. I immediately called my husband and told him what he said and he called him right away and left a message, because he didn't answer the call, and told him not to order the pavers because that's not what we wanted and again reminded him of where we got them. He tried again that night to call him and he still didn't answer the phone so we left another message. The next morning I had to got to work and they were not there before I left. I called my neighbor a few hours later and asked her if the contractor was there and she said that a load of pavers was delivered in the driveway. So my husband called again and this time he answered. He told him we didn't want those pavers and to return them but the contractor argued that he didn't think he could return them. My husband argued with him and finally fired him. When I got home the pavers were gone and so was his tractor. My husband called him a few times within the next few days about returning our money (2200.00 deposit) and he never returned our calls. I sent him an email detailing the hours he actually worked and deducted his labor for that and the materials he did purchase and asked for the remainder returned. I was very generous with my figurers and it came up to 1200.00 total so I asked for 1000.00 to be returned. He returned my email stating that he takes his labor at the end of the job and that he worked 4 days with a machine @500 per day (he told me he owned that machine the first day because I asked him about it) and then charged me 50.00 for materials which totaled 2070,00 and that he would send me a check for 170.00. There was no mention of equipment rentals in the contract and like I said he said it was his machine anyway. If he did rent the machine for 500.00 a day it would have exceeded the budget for the whole job because the machine was at my home for about a week and 1/2 total because they didn't show up everyday plus the weekend. So I believe he made up this charge in the end just so he wouldn't have to return our deposit. I would never hire this company for work again and I would never recommend them to anyone I know.
