I joined Angie's List to find someone to do this work because I felt it was way over my head to do myselfor with a friend. Checked a few people here and decided to send E.J. Plumbing an e-mail because of all the great reviews he had plus he is only a mile or two from my house. I got a quick reply and then talked to him on the phone. He came over soon after and went over what he could do for us and what he recommended for us for a replacement tub/shower unit. Very, very professional and not over bearing and very, very nice to work with. He fit us into his schedule 2 weeks later (today) and was here at the exact time he told us he would be with his helper. They came in and put drop cloths over all the floors they had to walk on to get to the bathroom. They then brought in all their tools and went to work. They even closed the bathroom door to keep the noise and dust down when they used power tools to disassembly the old tub/shower unit. Since the original builder of our house did not install the original unit correctly John (E.J.) took the time to repair the floor and even fixed the piping to prevent water hammering when using the shower. To me that goes to show how great an installer he is that he goes the extra step to do the job right (a BIG plus in my book). He put in the new unit without a hitch and they vaccumed up any mess that was made. When they were done it was like they were never there. He even took away all the mess (including the old unit) and this made it even easier so I did not have to do so. John then went over how everything works and gave me pointers on how to finish sheet rocking the small areas around the unit that need to be done. This was agreed by me when he first came and gave us an estimate. They even finished ahead of the time he thought he would take to get it done. We are very, very impressed with the products he used and the quality of his work. We would recommend him to anyone and would gladly use him again if needed. As for the price of the estimate (which was the final price also) I checked on about how much it would have cost for materail to buy it and felt that it was well worth having it done by someone that does it for a living and having it done right. Thank You very much John (and your helper). Rob .....
Description of Work: Removed fiberglass tub/shower unit that was installed when our house was buit in 1984. He installed a new Sterling tub/shower unit (made by Kohler) along with a new drain, shower controls and shower head (all made by Kohler).

Plumber was courteous, prompt, did a great job, charged a very fair price and is definitely someone we will use again as soon as we have another plumbing problem. Probably the only time I have been happy with a plumber in the last 10 years....
Description of Work: Had a problem with the shutoff valve for the washing machine. Plumber came in, diagnosed the problem, replaced the valve and the hoses and well, also did some additional work apparently free of charge.

He came, he saw, he conquered. I saw good reviews on this site, called him with a busted water heater. Less than 24 hours later he showed up at exactly the time he said he would, fixed the problem with zero issues (and took care of handful of other minor things I asked him to look at while he was here). Charged exactly what he said he would, and left the place cleaner than when he arrived. Could not ask for more.

It went beautifully from start to finish, they went above and beyond what was expected. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: Troubleshooting and replacement of my propane water heater. Very efficient and professional. They completed the job in 3 hours, which included, locating and purchasing the heater at the local Lowe's store. I had Harry W. Wells Plumbing over to fix a leak on my expansion tank on the old heater on 6/4/2011, they replaced the tank and charged me $227, they also apparently missed the other leak that caused the heater to fail a month later. Maybe I shouldn't complain, over 2 years ago, we had Heritage Plumbing over to fix a water heater problem, my wife left some jewelry on the bathroom sink, she's a stroke victim and just forgot. Turns out when the serviceman left, we found the jewelry also missing, I made a police report but they were unable to prove he stole it. It was the diamond wedding ring I had gotten her, gold shrimp earrings, with etching and a beautiful thick, hammered gold ring, with colored stones around it. I'm furious to this day because we couldn't prove he took them.

John contacted me within 25 minutes of my sending him an email request for quote. He was at my house the next morning to quote the job. I gave him the job and he setup an installation date of July 18th. He emailed me the day prior to coming. The quality of his work was perfect. My overall experience with this company is excellent.
Description of Work: John ran 60 feet of PEX from the high pressure side of my well tank to the rear of the house. He installed a shutoff inside the basement for the new line and installed a new outside faucet.

I called John because of his high marks on Angie's List. He proposed a day and time and ended up coming at that time. He asked a lot of questions when he arrived and proposed a good plan. I had a couple of questions and concerns and he explained how this plan addressed those concerns, He gave me a proposal for the cost, which I agreed to. After the project was done he told me it took less time than he had forecasted and he lowered the price to me (How often does that happen!). The net result is perfect. I will call John for any future plumbing needs and recommend him highly to others.

John was out of town when I sent him the initial message, but got back to me upon his return and scheduled the work for a couple of weeks later (it wasn't urgent for me, so this was fine). He arrived right on time and was very friendly and professional. He estimated the job would take about 2 hours, and he finished in less than that with one helper. He gave a 10% discount as I was a first time customer. Everything looks great, I would definitely recommend him!

We called John and he was able to come out right away to give us an estimate as well as perform the work. His price and service was so good that we scheduled him to come back and hook up our bathroom vanity which we were originally going to do ourselves. John was on time, very clean about the work he did and his estimates were very accurate. In addition to wonderful work, he was also a nice guy and willing to give advice about a future project we have planned. We would use him again without a doubt and recommend him to our friends.

Reached John's voice mail and left a message. He returned the call the same day and set an appointment for the following day to look at the scope of the project. I was very clear that this work would need to be done in June and did he have time for such a major project. He stated that he could handle a job like this and would have a better idea after he had seen the job site. On the day of the appointment I was to meet him at the rental and he would be there after 4:00 pm. I was at the job site waiting for him to show when I received a text message stating that he could not make it and that his schedule now would not allow him the time in June as we had previously discussed. I was floored that I received a text message instead of a phone call !!! I am a professional myself and would never conduct business in such a manner. I understand that things happen in ones day that prevents one from meeting all of there obligations, but please.......have the respect to call in person and either discuss the situation or recommend someone else that might be able to take your place. Mind you that this would have been a job in the price range of $10-20,000.00, not just a minor upgrade.
Description of Work: Contacted John regarding an estimate for a heating upgrade for 2 units in a 3 family rental. This would require adding new boilers and new piping as the units were not up to Massachusetts rental code.

John showed up on time and went right to work. He took pains to be very thougtful about not walking through the house, and instead insisted on using the bunker doors for the basement to bring in his tools and supplies. I was present from time to time watching him work, and at other times he made sure to call me down to the basement to show me exactly what he had done, and to ask my opinion on things like the final placement of the washer, etc. I was quite surprised and pleased that he finished up all the work that was planned in an amazingly short time period. At the end of the day, John took me around and pointed out all that was done, answered all my questions, and then took the time to explore the options of another major project that we have planned (bathroom redo). All in all it was a fantastic experience. For anyone that has had "issues" with contractors in the past, there is no need worry about plumbing work-just call John. I would highly recommend John to anyone that needs plumbing work, and am looking forward to having him onboard for our up coming bathroom project.
Description of Work: John moved the water service for the washing machine to the other side of our basement to facillitate setting up a laundry center which also included adding a utility sink. He also replaced several 40yo check valves and an expansion tank which had become corroded from old anti-freeze that had never been cycled out of the heating system. He flushed out the forced hot water system, and added new anti-freeze. We also had him replace two outside faucets that were leaking and non-functional after their 40 years of New England winters.

RE: the tub..we had had another plumber replace a pipe. When the leak continued we called him and he was very put out and suggested more caulking. When that didn't work we called John (based on angie's list) who immediately knew what the problem was and replaced the turnoff and shower diverter which were worn. After he left we noticed a small leak and called him. He returned and replaced another small part at no cost. We called him again to do the necessary plumbing for a new kitchen install. His scheduled visit was during one of our really bad snowstorms yet he came nonetheless. He was prompt and did what was needed and we were glad we did not try this ourselves cuz it was bigger than we imagined. All his work came with a 90 day warranty. We will use him again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.
Description of Work: Replaced washer shutoff and repaired bathtub leak that was dripping through the ceiling below. John also came a second time to install new kitchen faucets and a water filter system for a new kitchen install. ($300)

Fantastic!! I called John yesterday and he called back same day. During the call back and after explaining the problem to him, he diagnosed the expected problem (worn diverter valve). He told me he would arrive next day a little after 1pm. He actually arrived ahead of schedule, a little after 12pm! He went right to work and sure enough, it was the diverter valve. He took care of this problem in short order and added silicone sealant around the bath nozzle to finish up the job. Before he left, I asked him to look at the other shower that had a flow issue (we have low water pressure in our house) and he was able to improve the flow to an acceptable rate by removing a restrictor in the shower head. He did whole job in less than an hour. I can't tell you how relieved I was as I was thinking an upstairs wall would have to be torn apart to get to the leak and how pleased I was that all this was done in less than an hour. John did a great job and I will certainly utilize his services again.
Description of Work: John diagnosed and repaired water leak in upstairs bath/shower that had caused damage to downstairs ceiling. In addition, he fixed a poor flow problem in the shower in another bathroom.

Everything was excellent. E.J. plumbing was extremely professional. John was prompt to get back to me when I first contacted him. He communicated via phone and e-mail (which I love because I can't always stop for a phone call at work). When he came out to the house to give us the estimate he walked me through everything he was looking at and what the work would entail. He had the quote back to me that night. After that we were able to get on his calendar very quickly. He stuck to the agreed upon dates for the work and was very punctual. Once everytthing was complete, John walked me through all of the completed work to make sure everything was all set. They were very good about cleaning up areas where they were working. I didn't have to go back and clean up anything after the project was done. Everything works great and looks great. The home inspector seemed impressed as well which is reassuring. The costs were very reasonable especially given all of the work we had done.
Description of Work: We live in a condo complex that has been plagued with pinhole leaks because the original plumbing was all type M copper. We had all type M copper removed from our condo and the majority of the pipes were replaced with pex. Where copper was required to stay in code, the old copper was still removed and replaced with new copper that is up to code. Additionally we had a laundry sink installed in our basement, a new spigot installed in the basement, a line run to the kitchen for a fridge with water/icemaker in the door and new shower hardware installed. John also took care of a small leak under our kitchen sink and replaced a part on our furnace that he noticed wasn't working properly.

Prior to calling EJ Plumbing, I had selected and ordered a water (iron) filtration system and pH balancing unit for our home well water system. I cold-called John at EJ Plumbing to find a plumber to install the system, based on his Angie's list rating. John was extremely helpful - I was able to email him the manufacturer's specifications and installation instructions along with some ideas about how I wanted it installed. In our conversation, he provided me with some extra suggestions that I'm very happy I took him up on. He suggested doing all the work in copper, and adding a whole house filter before the two filtration units. I am extremely happy that I followed this suggestions! I hadn't realized how much loose particle was coming in through our well, and based on my findings after a month of operation, our new unit would have been filled with well debris in if that new filter wasn't on there. The price was reasonable - about 850.00 for the better part of a full days' work (I provided the actual iron filtration unit, wasn't part of the cost...) For that price, he included the filter plus all of the plumbing work necessary - lines into and out of the two-piece unit, the filter, and all of the necessary drain lines, and even included enough spare filters to last about a year. As mentioned above, he recommended and used 1" copper for the potable water part of the job - the sweat work was very nice and I'm really glad he suggested this material, as the copper also provides support for the two large filtration units. He used PEX on the two low-pressure drain lines, which was also ideal - I can easily see how well the unit is flushing during its periodic cleaning cycle. Summary: John worked with me to figure out what I needed, he showed up on time to do the work, the end result was clean and looks like it will be very durable, and I was very happy how all of his suggestions worked out.
Description of Work: Installation of a whole-house water filter, pH balancer, and Filox iron filter for our well water system, including all necessary drain lines. (Note: I supplied pH balancer and Filox filter, but the whole-house filter was part of the quote.)

Great job and done in a professional and timely manner!!!
Description of Work: We needed new toilets in 3 bathrooms. I called John as he had previously disconnected a gas dryer for us and I was impressed that he was on time and very professional and I decided he would be our only plumber. He explains what he is going to do, and he will tell you if it is worth it to repair something or go with a new product. We purchased three new Kohler high-end toilets from John at E.J. Plumbing Service, and had him install them, and he disposed of the old toilets. He provided a 1 year warranty on labor & parts. He cleans up after the job. And he also always returns my phone calls in a timely manner--good communication skills. I highly recommend John at E.J. Plumbing Service for all of your plumbing and Heating needs.

Everything went very smoothly. He showed up on time and (with his assistant) completed the work within about 4-5 hours. He did a great job on all projects, and returned at no charge three days later when a showerhead he had replaced would not stop dripping. (The problem was due to existing debris in the pipes, not to any error on his part.) He was 100% responsive and professional. I had printed out a 10% off coupon from Angie's List but he gave me the discount without my even having to ask. I was extremely satisfied all around and would not hesitate to recommend John or to hire him again.
Description of Work: John made a half-dozen plumbing repairs that had been indicated in our home inspection, including replacing corroded pipes, valves, and fittings; reconfiguring drainage from our washing machine; and replacing a faulty shower valve and spout. In addition, he installed a whole-house water filtration unit (requiring some reconfiguration of copper pipes above our basement water tank) and a new bathroom faucet, both of which we supplied, and repaired PVC piping for our sump pump's outflow.

Called EJ Plumbing for an estimate on a Friday and John showed up Saturday morning exactly at the time specified. John is very professional and prompt. John provided a written estimate including details about pump model he recommended. We called another plumber to get a comparable estimate and chose John based on his professionalism over the slightly cheaper price from the other plumber. On the day of the job, again John showed up on time and did a great job. After installing the pump, he went over it's operation with us and then cleaned up the area.

John was the only plumber we called that actually answered the phone when we called! He squeezed us in at the end of the following day. He arrived a bit late, but he said he might depending on how long the previous job took, so that was fine. He called about 10 minutes before he arrived just like he said he would, and got straight to work after I showed him where the broken sillcock was. Work was done in under an hour, which was what he estimated. After he finished, he brought me down and carefully explained what he did and showed me how everything worked. Very friendly and efficient!

John always arrives as promised, stands by his estimates, and works cleanly. Doesn't make a job more complicated that it needs to be. He also stays current with new technologies, which is a big plus. We had a particularly odd periodic over-pressure problem on our new(ish) boiler, which the original installer and another plumber had no clue about. After being puzzled himself and trying a couple of things, John took the time to research the issue and contact the boiler manufacturer which led to a solution(cause was a subtle installation error).
