This moving crew took a heavy computer armoire, placed under it two moving blankets, and dragged it across our 50+ year old hardwood floors to the doorway. They left two deep and significant drag marks from one side of the room to the other. The varish and stain were removed in some places. You can see exposed wood. I called Sterling as soon as I returned home to complain about the damage left by the crew. Bill Dastou, operations manager called me back within the hour. He told me my mother had signed their paperwork so the company wasn't liable for the damage. He then accused me of doing the damage "How do I know that you didn't do this damage yourself and are just looking for a way to get your floors redone?" I did not ask for financial compensation. I only asked that Sterling fix the area of the floor where the drag marks are. I acknowledged that the floors had wear and tear since they are more than 50 years old but what they didn't have before was deep and significant drag marks from one side of the room to the other. Below are the replies I received from Bill Dastou. 1) Thank you for the pictures. I have discussed the situation with the entire crew and they tell me that the entire piece was blanketed with a moving pad underneath ( 2 layers of moving moving pad) . They admit it was slid to the door in that fashion, but they indicate that they did not see the marks on the floor. With that said , it is possible that we caused the damage, but without verification at time of p/u it is impossible to accertain if we in fact did the damage or it was done after we left. What complicates the issue is the condition of the floor, prior to us moving anything. We by no means are looking to have unhappy customers, and would ask what you had in mind that you would like from us? 2) Based on the condition of the floor, I do not believe it can be fixed without refinishing the whole floor. I see various marks in the floor , other than the marks which are now there. As a matter of good faith I would be willing to send an appearance allowance of $100.00 while not admitting that we did the damage in an attempt to keep you happy. Hopefully , that will satisfy you. If not, you may try filing a property damage claim with NorthAmerican Van Lines, but I will be taking my offer off the table. They will settle the claim after hearing from both of us either for or against. I would be happy to share that tel # with you if you so choose that route. ------------------------------ This $100 "allowance" from Sterling will not be adequate to return my floors to the way the Sterling crew found them, without two significant drag marks across the entire room. I am completely dissatisfied with the lack of responsibility for the damage to our home. I would never use this company again, nor recommend them to anyone -- not even a stranger.
Description of Work: My mother and I relocated to Medford 1 year ago. After one MA winter my mother decided that she preferred the heat of Texas to the winters of MA. The company came out and provided an estimate for relocating her belongs to West Texas and we were pleased with the cost and hired them to do the pick up and move.
