Jerry came for the estimation. He's a nice and honest guy and this gave me a feeling that I found the right company. The contract is formal too. Both of these gave me the wrong impression of the company. Looking back I think the biggest problem for this company is people come and go very quickly. For example there were altogether 5 or 6 guys working on my roof, not including people that worked on the ceiling and interior painting. The first one is Tom and he left for another company after a while, and last week it was Gary. Another problem is once my project started they kept pulling people away from my project. I didn't complain much about this when it happened thinking it's not easy to run a business like this and only if they do a good work I'm ok with it. But turned out all these caused a very very bad quality of their work. A third problem is the boss never come to inspect the work being done. See details below. The project started in Sep 2015, and finished in June 2016. Yes, it took about 8 months! The bad quality of their work and they kept pulling people away from my project all contributed to the long lasting of the project. Actually the project is not finished even now because the roof they had worked on still leaks. They just don’t come to fix it anymore. The leak in the bedroom happened right after they finished the roof "repair". It's the end of Sep 2015. I remember there was storm coming that weekend and the leak already washed off part of the ceiling in a rain the day before. It's after this leak Mr. Sullivan extended their original 1-year-warranty to 2 years so that I continue to pay them for their work. They did send somebody over trying to fix the leak, and eventually tore apart previous work and redo it in April 2016. But unfortunately the redo helped nothing but to make the leak even worse. Then Mr. Sullivan sent a roofer over to help (Mr. Sullivan calls “my roofer” in one of his emails. If the people that did the repair work of my roof are not his ”roofer" then who they are?). The roofer did minor change to the area where the Sullivan company had worked on. They added a flashing at the bottom of the valley and it helped preventing water from pouring along the window. Now you can see there is correlation between Sullivan company's work and the leak. Before their work there was no leak (I had only ice dam problem, never the leak otherwise I can't wait that long for them to fix it); redo of their previous work made the leak even worse; the roofer's work on their working area helped reduce the leak. But guess what weird thing happened after this? Mr. Sullivan wants me to pay the bill for him to hire his roofer to fix the problem caused by his repair work. I realized this months after the roofer's visit by receiving an email from the Sullivan company. From then on I emailed, texted, called Mr. Sullivan asking why I should be responsible for him to hire the roofer. Mr. Sullivan never explained it to me, just kept asking me to pay the bill. They not only did a bad work on the roof but interior work as well. On Oct 13, 2015 they tried to put plaster on the ceiling of both the bedroom and the kitchen area. The plaster fell off of the ceiling in both places a little while later. After Mr. Sullivan realized he can't fix the problem he started telling me I need a new roof and gave me a over $20000 proposal to replace the whole roof. Now he blames my roof being too old. And he's not keeping the 2-year-warranty either because in the contract it mentions they are not responsible for any "unforeseen" issues. Right, their unprofessionalism is really a big "unforeseen" issue. Their worker Gary spotted another leak on the family room ceiling that's right under a roof valley they repaired (see the attached picture of a cut valley) on Feb 21, 2017. Now there are altogether 3 places that have leaking problems, and all are under the area that they had worked on. Apparently “a failed roof” couldn’t explain why the leaking happened only in the area that they had worked on and not anywhere else. After they stopped come to help I found another roofer. They spotted couple of places that are not properly done by the Sullivan company and they are willing to fix it for me.

I called The Sullivan Company to see if their Domo Handyman Service could handle a small vinyl siding repair job that siding contractors won?t touch. Two pieces on the front of my house had holes in them where a satellite dish used to be located and one piece on the side had been cut too short and did not overlap the piece next to it. The siding is 23 years old. I had a four-foot piece of original siding and two larger pieces of not-quite-matching siding that could be swapped with a piece of matching siding on the back of the house, if necessary. Jerry Campbell came out to take a look and give me an estimate, which I thought was reasonable. The handyman came three weeks later and after we discussed the job he managed to repair all three pieces in approximately two hours using only the four-foot piece of original siding. I am very satisfied with the result.

I was pleased with it. The price was rather reasonable. They came when they said they were coming. They followed through with the work through completion. They left the place in clean neat order.

Started on time but had some miscommunication along the way as to what day and time the workers would be arriving. Had to reschedule one who showed up on a day we were not informed of him coming and another did not show up on the day we were told he would. Fortunately between my husband and I we were able to accommodate the shifting of days.

They carried the line of cabinets I was looking for and others did not. At that time, there weren't many green cabinets readily available that was good looking. The communication was difficult with them. I knew what I was buying and they got it done the way I wanted.
Response from THE SULLIVAN COMPANY INC
"It was a pleasure working with the customer. I am surprised to hear she felt it was difficult to communicate with us as I handled her sale personally. Custom cabinetry takes a long time to arrive. She was made aware of that before ordering."

The original contract was for $4,000; halfway through the job after they had already cut into roof supports they told us that we were going to have to pay another $1,000 to have it appropriately supported for it to pass inspection. Nothing had changed but they stopped mid-stream on the job so we really did not have any choice. They were not going to finish the job until we signed that we would pay for it so it was bait and switch; it was really inappropriate, but we had to do it or the roof was going to be caving in on our house. It is hard to give them anything but an F because we would have been hosed if we did not have the extra money to pay. At the end I guess I will give them a D because the quality of work was good but a 25 percent increase job on a construction agreement is horrendous. It puts people in a very difficult situation and I will not use them again in the future. I would warn people not to use them because of the 25 percent increase in mid-stream.

"The customer project required additional work due to a structural defect caused by a previous contractor or the homeowner performing work on a truss system with no knowledge of the consequence. Once we opened the area and found the problem we insisted that an engineer provide the correct remedy so the work could be done. He agreed to the work which we did expeditiously upon approval. It then took a long time to get paid and after he finally paid us he gave us a poor rating even though we did a very good job and were working in his best interestes only. This is a problem with the Angies List system. Clients that are unhappy about paying for things use the rating for retaliation rather than the purpose it's intended for."

Very solid quality of work from this company. However, the communications between sales and the men performing the work were not good. This resulted in a drawn-out project and more return visits to our house, greatly disrupting my work life. It is lucky I'm working mostly from home these days. Again, the actually work is of excellent quality. I just wish the process had been smoother in terms of letting us know when the work would be done.
Response from THE SULLIVAN COMPANY INC
"This is a condoiminium and additional work outside of the original contrct was required and we did not perform that work until after it was approved. We did the additional work as soon as we possibly could given the delay"

The Sullivan Company/Sherwood Kitchens supplied our vanities & countertops for the remodel of 2 bathrooms. They did not install the vanities, our contractor did. The countertop fabricator installed the countertops. I have no complaints about the vanities or countertops. In fact, they are beautiful. However, getting the vanities was quite a waiting game. We were told it would be 6 - 8 weeks after the order was placed. We were fine with that & even if it had gone over that a little, we would not have been bothered. However, we thought the vanity order was being placed around the end of February, as at that point in time, we were told they might arrive by mid-April, but that could be optimistic and it might be more like the end of April. No problem. Well, as it turns out the vanities didn't arrive until June, which slowed all of our remodeling down significantly. It wasn't until mid-summer until the vanities & countertops were finally done. Oh well....over & done. I was thinking of using this company for our kitchen remodel, as well, but after the bathroom experience, we went with another company, who built us beautiful cabinets & installed beautiful quartz countertops in a much more timely & professional manner. Billing from the Sullivan Company/Sherwood Kitchens is an area that really needs work. My first payment to them was apparently deposited into one of their closed accounts. When the charge never showed up on my credit card, I contacted them & was informed of the above. I wonder if they would have ever caught it had I not brought it up. Another check was returned in the mail as undeliverable. I had sent it to the address on the invoice they sent me. When I contacted them about this, I was told it was an old address & to please send it to another address. My last payment to them never cleared my checkbook. A month after I sent that check to them, they finally contacted me to tell me their bank wouldn't let them deposit it because I had made it out to the Sullivan Company & not Sherwood Kitchens. I was asked to rewrite the check out to Sherwood Kitchens. My fault. Additionally, the price we were quoted changed over time. Some of this was due to our making changes to the vanities, but we thought our changes would decrease the price, not increase. We ultimately resolved this issue. I would, however, get a signed contract with firm prices before doing business with them. If you make any changes, get price changes in writing, before proceeding. Paul Sullivan is very personable & I'm sure means well. It would be in his company's best interest though, to communicate better when situations begin to get sticky & to get his billing department a bit more organized. We have done a complete remodel of the house we are currently living in. Of all the people we have worked with, contractor, plumbing/HVAC, electrician, sheetrockers, tile company, flooring company, kitchen cabinetry & countertop company, Paul Sullivan is the only person I would choose to not work with again.
Response from THE SULLIVAN COMPANY INC
"We agree with the customer on the billing. We had just moved our offices and changed credit card servicers and were still getting the kinks worked out. The cabinet delivery however came in the time frame promised. The order cannot be finalized until the details are finalized and signed off on. She was made aware of that from the beginning and had we been able to get the information in a more timely manner then she would have got her cabinets sooner."

I used these guys quite frankly because they were the only ones willing to do the job and quote it. I thought I could replace the whole window for the price they charged to replace the glass. Needless to say It did not go well at all. The job was quoted in August and not completed until NOVEMBER. I was originally quoted a 1 month turn around. They took a week or so to measure, and after more than a month the glass came back the wrong size. No one took responsibility for it. They ended up reordering the glass which showed up a month later. No consideration was given for the almost 6 week delay. Overall not their best effort in my opinion. Maybe the job was too small, i don't know. Buyer beware.
Response from THE SULLIVAN COMPANY INC
"We searched far and wide to get the customer this out of production hardware. he is right. e were the only ones willing to do this work. It's unfortunate that we worked so diligently to get these parts and do the job that nobody else would do and he's still not happy. A new window would have cost many times more and he had absolutely no interest in replacing his window"

I am extremely pleased with their service. The estimator was prompt and work began and ended as per their estimate with no extra charges (except for some additional work that I commissioned). The crew was knowledgeable, professional and efficient. The work is of very high quality with specialists working on each stage of the process. When unexpected issues were encountered, they had the skill to solve problems. The price was reasonable. They left the work area clean each evening and when the job was complete. I would highly recommend them.

While they started like gangbusters with 3+ guys on the job, they quickly pulled workers off my house and eventually left us with one guy painting. I had the treads on the front steps replaced and the banisters rebuilt by their very nice carpenter. Unfortunately, they did not properly prime the banister before painting it and knots bled through the paint by the beginning of Fall. I called about this and other issues and received assurance that they would be out in the spring to repaint the banister and correct mistakes, but never heard from them again, despite follow-up emails. While their individual contractors were pretty competent and pleasant, there was a lack of oversight and attention to detail (they did an awful job on the inside of my porch... window trim etc) that was shocking considering the amount of money involved and the fact that if I was pleased with them, I would have used them for an upcoming remodel on a kitchen and two baths. Disappointed.

This company did not provide the least expensive estimate by any means, however, the professionalism of their sales and workers was impressive. The guys were respectful and very clean. Their office staff was honest and there were no hidden costs. I wanted the job done right the first time and I was not disappointed. I highly recommend this company.

I HAD A PLEASANT E-MAIL EXCHANGE WITH THE WORK SCHEDULER, AND THE MAN WHO DID THE WORK WAS INTELLIGENT, AND COOPERATIVE. I WAS INITIALLY BILLED FOR THREE HOURS OF WORK FOR INSTALLING ONE SET OF BLINDS. WHEN I QUESTIONED THE SIZE OF THE BILL I WAS TOLD THAT IT INCLUDED TRAVEL TIME, WHICH HAD NOT BEEN PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED, AND THAT OUR CARPENTER'S PREVIOUS WORK HAD MADE IT UNCLEAR HOW TO INSTALL THE BLINDS. THEY ULTIMATELY TOOK AN HOUR OFF THE BILL, PRESUMABLY FOR THE TRAVEL, BUT I THINK THAT SINCE THEY LIST THEMSELVES ON THE VELUX WEBSITE AS EXPERTS IN INSTALLING THESE BLINDS, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IMMEDIATELY CLEAR WHAT WAS WRONG. I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CHARGED FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE TIME FOR REMOVING THE MIS-INSTALLED PIECE (TWO RAILS), AND THE RE-INSTALLATION.
Response from THE SULLIVAN COMPANY INC
"THE BILL DOESN'T INCLUDE TRAVEL TIME PER SEC. THE HOURLY BILLING, WHICH THIS CLIENT CHOSE RATHER THAN GETTING A FIXED PRICE, IS BILLED TO THE NEXT WHOLE HOUR AND THAT COVERS OUR STAFF'S TIME BETWEEN JOBS. A VERY FAIR AND VERY COMMON BILLING PRACTICE. WE ARE KNOWLEDGEABLE AND CERTIFIED IN THESE INSTALLATIONS BUT ANYONE WHO WANTS TO SECOND GUESS A WORKER CAN FIND A WAY."
