COELHO CONTRACTING INC

Working with Coelho has always been a breeze. I called them in March to report the chipping and they said that it was best to do it when the weather was slightly warmer. True to their word, they called me in April to schedule the apppointment and then took excellent care of the job!

Called Coelho Contracting first time on a Saturday morning. Even though the owners were in NY, they replied very quickly and had someone over to my apartment within an hour and a half. They gave an estimate of $100-200. Took less than an hour for them to clean and remove about six old patches, replace it with one fresh one, let it dry and test for residual leakage. Paid $150 total and was more than happy with the work done. Would use them again and will recommend to friends.

I received a very prompt and courteous reply to my request. Unfortunately, Coehlo doesn't do touch ups. Next year, when I need to obtain bids for full painting, I will be contacting them for a bid.

We were very impressed with them. They were not the lowest bid, but they were worth it for the service that we got.

I received three different quotes from three different contractors. Out of the three they were the ones willing to do a more thorough job. Overall, I was very happy with the job they did. If needed, I would use them again.

It was a good experience, and even though our heat went out one week and it was 17 degrees outdoors, and really chilly indoors on our main floor, the workers kept up a good attitude and work ethic. They did not show on one really cold nasty Saturday when they were supposed to work to finish on time (before Christmas), but Emmanuel made things right ASAP.

They are a family owned business, very easy to work with, and the person in the office was very helpful and gracious.

They were very prompt and professional. They did a wonderful job. The people were nice, very polite, and very respectful. They cleaned up very well. They were a little high priced, but I paid for the quality. I would use them again in the future.

This was a large job and took several weeks. Before it began, the owner came and discussed the project with me, giving me several options for the trim. We chose wood rather than plastic. We were delighted that the trim was a high-quality hardwood and custom-cut to match the old trims, rather than a store-bought softer wood, at no extra cost. A team of two workers came every day and worked from ladders(up to the fourth floor). They were courteous and professional. They installed the new trim neatly, accurately and painted it meticulously. They also did a good job cleaning up every day after themselves.

They did a wonderful job painting my home. I found them on Angie's List. They came out looked at my home and gave me an estimate that I thought was reasonable. Coelho came out and did all the work that they said they were going to do. They didn't leave my yard a mess, and they were very prompt. They came out at the time they said they would. I am very happy with the work that was done. I would recommend them highly. I would hire Coelho's in the future if needed.

My experience with Coelho Contracting from my first call requesting an estimate through to the end when all the work was completed was very positive. Each and every person I had contact with from Coehlo was courteous and professional. The work was done efficiently and effectively, with particular attention paid to keeping my home neat and making sure there was very little disruption. I would not hesitate to use Coehlo again, and I will gladly and readily refer Coelho to family and friends.

Their estimate was substantially lower than other organizations highly rated by Angie's List. In part, that was because Emanuel found things to do that were less work -- repair, rather than replace, put the roof on top of the old one. Much cheaper. And the execution: Well, they weren't flawless, but they were awfully close to flawless. And they're good people.

The house needed painting badly. The crew came, worked very hard, were cheerful and friendly, and left things neat each day. They loosened the attachments for the wires coming in to the house so that they could repair the rotted wood underneath and paint it, and then reassembled it. The phone stopped working after one such detachment and they brought in an electrician to check that the problem wasn't inside the house, which it wasn't. So the phone company came and fixed the connection to the pole. They responded in a timely fashion to our inquiries and were generally an excellent outfit to work with. The house looks very nice.

Our Saturday in-home estimate was scheduled about two weeks out. Emanuel (also the owner) was prompt and very courteous. He instilled confidence as he patiently described in detail how each job would be performed, suggesting some solutions which we hadn't considered. We ended up going with a similarly qualified competitor who gave us a lower bid, but have every confidence that Coelho would have done the job very well.

I am extremely satisfied with all aspects of the work. Emanuel, the owner, did an initial walk-through with us, explaining in detail every aspect of the job, including various window options. He recommended the windows we should go with, and we have been very happy with them. The work was done neatly, on schedule, and thoroughly. Not only are the windows easy to operate, but the work around the trim and sills, including the insulation and caulking has resulted in air tight windows throughout the house. Additionally, they straightened a column on the front porch and ended up charging me less than the estimate.

Very prompt and courteous in giving estimate. The job had to be done on a rainy day so the scheduling was a little tricky. On the day they did the power washing, they were on time and finished quickly and neatly and did a great job.

I am a former developer and have hired painters for big and small jobs in the past. It was not a happy experience as most painters were very conservative and tradition-bound, doing it just like they learned when they were beginners. This a problem in New England, generally. Mr. Coehlo revealed that he had kept up with the significant changes in the chemistry of paint and in the technology and materials of tools and construction. I was very impressed with both his knowledge and his thoroughness. He had many excellent ideas for attacking certain problems that I had not even seen. I would have been glad to have hired him. It is companies like his that will help us maintain our housing stock well into the future. I should add that I had a similar reaction to Arch Painting. It is encouraging to see in this age when slipshod work is everywhere that some people still care about quality.

Fabulous job. Our first experience with an exterior painter. Came and bid quickly with courteous follow-ups. Was among the most competitive bids and crew who had a great attitude and cleaned up meticulously each day. We accepted bid late in spring and had to wait until early fall to get work done because their schedule was so full, but they communicated well and got it in before winter as promised. These guys are unequivocally professional and accommodating-even threw in painting some back door stairs for free that we had originally excluded from the bid thinking we would have a porch built.

They were very good. They come in specialized groups. It goes very fast.

Was called back in 3 days with the message that they only do full painting projects, not touch-up work. The work we were looking at has been quoted by other companies in the $8-10K range. I ended up using one of these companies instead and didn't actually go back to Coelho for a follow-up.

They did an excellent job overall. They were very meticulous. The owner himself came out a few times and explained some things. I did wait a long time for them to come out, and while I was waiting for them I had something fixed that was originally on the estimate, and he took that off without any questions. Their office is also very responsive. They also really respond really well to email.

We were very happy with the work that they did. They showed up on time to do the work. They were very courteous when they were there working. They told us when they would be there the next day.

I asked for this to be replaced, and it was. There are also other areas that have been filled in with putty. The deck was completed only 3 months ago. After this very short period, the finish on the deck is stripped in some areas and blotchy in others. The whole flooring surface is unevenly stained. Moreover it is also streaked with black mildew. I was told that the deck would need to be treated with rosewood oil once per year (and this is in the contract). When I called to ask about the current terrible appearance of the deck, in such a short time period, I was told that it is weather related and given a procedure for washing and re-staining the deck. Coelho maintains that this is a maintenance issue and that they are not responsible. I agree that the mildew is not their responsibility but the blotchy appearance of the finish must be related to the way it was applied (if it was only weather related it would have faded evenly). In any case it is much shorter than the one year reapplication time period. Now Coelho says that the problems are related to the deck's location in an unshaded area (but of course the old deck was in the same spot). Had I been told to expect mahogany to require maintenance every two months I would not have chosen it as a flooring material. I would like Coelho to refinish the deck flooring. They have refused - I would like Angie's complaint resolution to intervene. In response to my requests, Emmanuel Coelho sent an email to me on Wednesday August 13. He agreed that the deck was mildewed due to the very rainy summer and gave detailed instructions for cleaning it and said this was a maintenance issue for which he was not responsible. I agreed that Coelho was not responsible for the mildew but maintained that there was also a problem with the finish on the deck. Emmanuel Coelho responded on August 14 that "the rosewood oil on your deck is not showing any signs of wear. It is recommended by the manufacturer to be applied once a year or as needed. In fact the oil on your deck is perfectly fine, with the exception of the mildew growing on the surface." I said that I did not agree and that I would contact Angie?s List with a complaint. On Friday August 15 I received a phone call from Karla Coelho (with whom I had never spoken previously). She was quite rude and said that I was trying to "trick them" and encouraged me to contact Angie?s List, which I did that same day. I left for vacation the following day. The accusation that the finish on the deck was damaged by harsh and abrasive chemicals applied to the deck by me was never mentioned before the company?s response to Angie?s List. I have never touched the deck or applied chemicals of any kind. It is clear to me that no amount of scrubbing is going to correct the uneven finish on the deck. I will now have to hire another contractor to strip, clean and refinish a 4 month old $16,000 deck. Coelho Contracting should be required to responsibly stand by their work.

Angie's List did not disappoint, and of course, neither did Coelho Contracting. I went with Coelho Contracting largely because of the many positive reviews. I realized that I would be paying a little on the high end, but I was convinced that it was necessary if I wanted a proper job done. My first meeting with Emmanuel (owner) convinced me that they do not cut any corners. Anyone will tell you that the key to a good paint job is surface preparation, and beyond that, respecting the weather which will mean a day here and there of no work. Coelho's price accounts for both of those things, and so they will not be the low-bidder, but I feel that I got my money's worth, which includes consistent and professional communication with their office every step of the way. Below is a cut-and-paste of my complement to Coelho, when the job was finished. "I have surveyed our recently painted house and find the entire job to be of the finest quality. Please extend my appreciation to Emmanuel and the crew. I would never have imagined being this satisfied. It is an excellent job all around: quality of work, attention to detail, and thoroughness of procedure. You clearly set out to do the job the right way and it shows in the finished product. I also applaud the customer service experience, from price quote, to consistent communication with the office, to the respectful manner in which the crew conducted themselves. Thank you for a job well done. You have exceeded my expectations."

A+++. From beginning to end everything was excellent. It turned out exactly how we picked it to be. They got the job done when they said it would be done. The price was right. The quality of their work was excellent! They really went the extra mile. They used a new product that was more expensive but they used that instead for no extra charge. The estimate was right on with what they had charged me. I would recommend them to friends and family.
