The guy who did the initial assessment was really friendly but he was poor in terms of his communication with us, so he did not do a good job communicating. He would tell us that he would do something but he didn't get it done. He did that on three occasions. Their dispatcher I think, perhaps one of the owners, the woman who I spoke to was awesome. We got to the point where because the gentleman wasn't communicating on what was going on, I said we weren't going to use Boston Standard because I was so frustrated with its failure to communicate. They were going to take out our heating system in February and rather than getting it all done in one fell swoop, this guy Mark said he could do it but then he said I'm going to have to do it over the weekend so we would be without power for a said amount of time in February and that's not acceptable. So we cancelled, and I went looking for other heating places but this guy Mark, his initial work was excellent, whereas the other company was not excellent and when they came in to do their assessment, it seemed pretty cursory. So, I told them that I wasn't going to use Boston Standard and over the weekend we thought about it and the fact of the matter is that it seemed like Boston Standard knew what they were doing than the other company. Monday, the Boston Standard woman I had spoken to called me back and she said "Listen, I have moved our people around and if you will give me a chance, I will get in a team to get it done, high priority because your business and our good name mean a lot to me." She got in a guy, he brought in all the help we needed and they were in and out of our house with a new high efficiency heater within three days. They got the job done faster than they had originally said they were going to get it done, which is awesome. It ended up being a good experience.

Overall, the job went OK. They were unable to find the leak in the pipe and the problem persists today. On the installation of the new fixtures, the work was done professionally. Took 2 people 3-4 hours to complete the work.

Called on a Saturday afternoon when the water heater suddenly failed. Water was slowly pooling on the concrete basement floor so I wanted to be sure the water to the heater was turned off. Within 15 minutes I received a call from the plumber on duty (Mike Wells) and he talked me through (using photos from my iPhone) how to make sure I had turned the proper faucet handle. He asked the type of water heater I wanted and suggested the capacity based on my usage, and gave me a range of costs based on quality and efficiency. He then called me back within 20 minutes with an appointment to replace the heater the following morning between 10 and 12. As is company policy, he mentioned the cost of the emergency visit and how it had to be paid by credit card before any work could begin. This was all done very professionally and clearly. He was on time at just slightly after 10 AM. He apologized that when he unpacked the heater I had chosen, he found there was a dent in its side, so he said he would be back within the hour with a new one because he was concerned about the possibility the dent was only a sign of possible internal damage. While fetching the new heater, his helper drained and removed the old one. Within an hour and a half the project was done with removal of all the trash and debris. He then explained how to drain all the hot water pipes in the house to remove any dirt or rust. I have had over the years a considerable amount of repair and replacement on a century plus bow front house. This is one of the best experiences I have ever had. Prompt, efficient, straightforward, professional and pleasant service by competent professionals is a pleasure. I am planning to have the company evaluate and recommend some other heating/cooling issues in the house. I couldn't be more pleased and would recommend them to anyone.

i can't rate this provider on work performed because no work was performed. I needed to reschedule due to a death in the family. I emailed the provider at the address given and also called the phone number given. I could not even leave a message because voicemail was not activated. I asked Angie's List for a refund and will not try to use this provider again because I will not deal with anyone whom I cannot contact readily and easily.

It was just a jar of an organic product to put down on the drains to clean it out and everything work out very well. They were very nice and they got me the product and it works in terms of cleaning up the drains. We have very success with Angie's list products. It was a little bit of time only because I had to get down to Massachusetts to get it. They were open at certain times and I had to get down there certain times. They were very good, very nice, and even trying to set up some time where I can get down there to get it. Everything was fine. That seem to be a standard pricing for what others I got prior to that. The product was not the same product as somebody else is. I'm sure the product is well within the range of being reasonable. It did a good job cleaning the drains and I used it as an on going maintenance type of thing. They were very helpful in explaining the product how it works. They answer my questions.

It went supremely well. They were thorough and professional. They diagnosed the problem and made our hot water system work. My wife and I couldn't be happier as are everyone in the building. UPDATE: The day after they installed my garbage disposal, our dishwasher flooded - the water would not drain out. I looked at the instruction manual and realized that the plumber failed to remove the "knockout plug", which MUST be removed whenever you hook up a disposal to a dishwasher, or else the dishwasher can't drain. I fixed the botched installation and now everything works as it should. Charged me $345 to replace a leaking garbage disposal for a new one that I had already purchased. No complications, nothing weird, replacing the same brand disposal into a regular kitchen sink. This is ridiculous. Less than an hour's work. They said they don't charge according to the particular job, that the price came "out of the book", whatever that means. Next time I'll go with a plumber that charges reasonably for his/her time, instead of some random price that's way more than labor cost should be. I will not be using them again because their pricing is ridiculous.

There were two people, the faucet could not be fixed, so they quoted me a price to replace the faucet. I found the cost to be exorbitant, and despite already having spent $99 on the "big deal" plus the $39 service call fee, it was STILL cheaper for me to hire a local (licensed) plumber to do the work. They were perfectly nice, punctual, etc. And I'll pay a premium for that, but not a 300% premium.

He charged me for a service call and told me that the $99 for $200 worth of work would still be applicable if I called him to come back to do the work. I wound up paying for him to come look at problems that I brought to his attention, which I expected, but I thought it would have been part of the deal. It is more expensive than I thought, I am getting a refund through Angie's List.

I have hired a lot of different contractors to work on my house in my 60+ years. I can remember maybe one,who arrived early or on time.Boston Standard was supposed to be here at 8:00am and the technician was sitting outside at 7:55am. I needed a new kind of drain valve with a longer reach and what I got was perfect. He even drained out the boiler and refilled it. Good work! Peter Miller,Hyde Park

I'm thrilled. They did an amazing job. The work was completed on time, for hundreds (or thousands) less than other providers quoted. Even though I paid less, I got a better piece of equipment and I'm almost positive I got a more professional, polite installation crew. Here are a few things they did that I didn't expect: 1. They installed an electric water heater so that my family would have hot water overnight while the job progressed. This meant they had to carry the tank into the basement, wire a 220v outlet, connect the tank up, and then remove everything the next day. And I'm also pleased they left me the 220v outlet in the basement for no charge. 2. After they finished, the entry mats to my house were cleaner than when they started. They must have shaken them out or vacuumed them or something. It was almost impossible to tell anyone had been through the house. I will absolutely use Boston Standard again. FYI - the head of the install crew was Mike Wells, and I'd absolutely recommend requesting him if possible. I have no experience with anyone else at Boston Standard, but Mike did an amazing job.

I was looking to install a new ducted HVAC system and remove a broken Mitsubishi split system within my 800 sq. ft. condo. After collecting four proposals from various HVAC providers throughout the area, I decided to proceed with Boston Standard for the installation of my new system. From the first interaction to the last, Boston Standard consistently exceeded my expectations throughout the entire process. Following the initial assessment of my unit, Mark provided a proposal that was very thorough and cost competitive. While not the cheapest estimate that I received, Boston Standard was still well below other competing estimates. More importantly, the scope and detail of the proposal (versus competitors) as well as Mark's competence and responsiveness to my questions is what ultimately brought Boston Standard over the goal line. The installation process was no less impressive. Mark and his team were punctual and efficient. They managed to carry the new Trane compressor up three flights of stairs and then somehow hoist the unit on to the roof without the use of a crane / police detail (this would not have been the case with the other estimates I received). The highlight of the installation was clearly the placement of the ductwork. Given only a narrow crawl space above my ceiling, Mark and team were still able to discretely install the ductwork for three rooms above the ceiling with little/no damage to the existing drywall. Others probably would have avoided the hassle by simply attaching the ductwork to the ceiling (which would then have to be covered with drywall and painted), but these guys took the initiative to conceal the ductwork above the ceiling - it was impressive. The electrician then managed to re-configure my (full) electric panel to accommodate the extra circuits necessary for the compressor and air handler (without installing a whole new panel). After completion of the installation, Joe sent me all of the paper work and prefilled form to submit for the energy efficiency rebate. The bottom line here is that these guys are good and you should consider using them for your next HVAC installation.

In my experience with Boston Standard Plumbing & Heating Inc everything went fine. I think the offer was enticing. They came around the time I purchased the big deal. They accepted the coupon and that's how we got a hold of them through Angie's List. We had them do some work like wiring. I think they were straight forward. Everything is holding up fine now a few months later. I would use them again. I have to.

Their representative arrived promptly and spent a considerable amount of time assessing the situation, asking questions, and offering suggestions. It was apparent that he was knowledgeable and understood the scope of work. He also reviewed several other situations in my house which will be future projects but were not related to the job for which I had requested an estimate. After assessing the situation, he returned to his truck and took the time to prepare a detailed estimate. When he was done, he thoroughly explained the estimate to me, as well as explaining how his company operates. When I questioned the amount of the estimate, which I felt was high, he gave a reasonable explanation of why although Boston Standard may not always be the lowest cost provider, their quality and experience justifies the price quoted. When he had completed his explanation and answered all my questions, he informed me that there would be a $29 fee for providing the estimate. If this was explained to me by the dispatcher at the time I booked the appointment, I do not recall it. I feel the fee was entirely warranted, considering the amount of time that was spent at my house, it just came as something of a surprise to me. In the end, although I was very impressed with Boston Standard, I could not justify in my mind the price premium for their work. I subsequently had another company do the work for about half of what Boston Standard quoted.
Description of Work: I had a radiator which had to be moved to allow room for new windows being installed. Boston Standard sent a representative to provide an estimate for the work to be done.

We would certainly recommend Boston Standard, though not so much for simple plumbing tasks (too expensive) but if I needed extensive plumbing work done, they're my guys.
Description of Work: We originally just needed someone to thoroughly snake and unclog a slow bathtub drain. After asking some (very key) questions they took a look at the drain and the pipes in the basement. They advised us that snaking would more than likely cause a rupture in our very old piping. They were very honest, and referred us to their "drain unclogging" sister company. They also said that we shouldn't have to pay as much as Boston Standard would charge for what is really a simple job. Still, the issue of a possible rupture remained, and we let that rest. We were told the deal would be valid until whenever we did require their services. So about a month later we decided to have a new toilet installed, with appropriate ADA height standrards. We found the Boston Standard folks to be very knowledgeable about such matters and provided a detailed estimate. They did the work and it was grand, except that we did have to call them back to do some additional caulking and install a minor part that had been overlooked.

It was a good experience and I did not spend any more than what I purchased the big deal for. They said that they do not usually come to this town so a long term relationship with them would probably be a little bit problematic because they are in Boston and I am in the west of Boston. I would not use them again in the future only because of their geographic location. I would definitely use them again if they were in my geographic location.
Description of Work: I used the big deal that I purchased from Boston Standard Plumbing & Heating Inc. for replacing a faucet for me.

Previous plumber claimed I needed a whole new basin in my shower. These guys explained I needed to seal up the pvc with some glue. Project went from ripping up my shower to buying some sealer. They were honest and professional
