I originally had a very good experience with Jeff, as I d contacted him about having some exterior work done to fill in huge gaps between the bricks and the window frames on a condo I purchased in 2008. These gaps were, in some places, nearly an inch wide and were allowing rain, snow, and wind to access the foundation of the house. In addition, I was experiencing drafts and heat loss. At that time, he suggested that I contact the original installer of the replacement windows to correct the problem. After doing so and discovering that this problem existed prior to the window replacement. I had Jeff come out in late September 2008 to assess the situation. He gave me a quote of $1500 and we agreed that he d perform the work within a month. He told me that he needed to order the appropriate materials from the window manufacturer, but that he would get back to me to arrange a time to perform the work, some of which would require him to work from within my home. When November 1 hit and I had not t heard from him, I called and e-mailed him to figure out when things would be done. He NEVER responded. If he would have told me that he could not or would not do the work I would have moved on immediately. I was left hanging to have window work done as it was getting colder. I m a single mom who works full time and do not have a lot free time to hunt down contractors. And, because of winter s approach, I have to delay the work until the spring with my heating dollars literally going out the window.
Description of Work: No services were performed. I had hired Jeff Lasky to re-caulk replacement windows on a condo that I purchased last year (2008). He completely dropped the ball and never followed through.

Overall, I was very happy with the work and will use Jeff again. I liked that when he showed up he immediately had his helper start the work on one door, while we discussed the needs of the second door. He quoted me for two hours work and even though he took a little longer, he only billed me for 2 hours, plus supplies.
Description of Work: Two old wood doors-1 interior and 1 exterior were tough to open and close. Both doors needed the hinges to be re-seated and the doors planed. The exterior door also needed a deadbolt installed.

ABOUT A WEEK AFTER I HAD VISITED THE MEMBER'S HOME SHE LEFT ME A VOICE MAIL. I CAN'T RECALL HER EXACT WORDS, BUT IT WAS ALONG THE LINES THAT HER INVESTMENT PORTFOLIO HAD TAKEN A HIT AND THAT SHE HAD TO PUT OFF THE WORK. IN LIGHT OF THIS, I ASSUMED THAT SHE DIDN'T WANT ME TO CALL HER BACK.

Jeff worked with me on scheduling, and also understanding with pet issues when working with open windows. There was only one point that Jeff didn't call back after a phone message, but in the busy lives we all lead I didn't think much of it and called again, and got a prompt response. He was respectful and intelligent about what needed to get done. All work was done professionally, and I felt that it was a job well done overall.

I had a variety of window problems including stuck and missing storm windows, some loose from their frames, windows with broken ropes and pulleys, and a couple that were stuck in the sash. I called for 3 estimates, 2 for replacement windows and Jeff Lasky, who offered two quotes: one for refurbishing (with new storm windows) and one for replacement windows. I liked his approach to refurbishing my windows, which were basically sound and fit well with my hundred year old house. His price was slightly higher than one window replacement estimate, and much lower than the other estimate. After I agreed to use Jeff's services, it took about 2 weeks to get the storm windows custom-made. Jeff was easy to contact and we watched the weather forecast to choose a good day. On that morning, his assistant arrived first, right on time, and went to work. Jeff arrived soon afterward and both worked non-stop through the day, about 8 hours to finish. They had the routine planned well. They have a friendly, professional attitude and spent a lot of time on the finishing touches after the basic installation was done. Jeff is well prepared with the tools to do the job and there were no delays. The storm windows fit well, were completely sealed into place, and operate smoothly. The old storm windows were picked up halfway through the job. They installed brass chains on all the windows and a metal glide-track so the windows can be raised and lowered more easily. They cleaned up well and Jeff explained what I could do for follow-up lubrication, inviting me to call him back if there were any problems. The finished installation looks very good with just a bit of touch-up paint needed.
Description of Work: Completely refurbished 7 windows, installed new chains, replaced storm windows & screens.

Very well. Very responsive and did the work on schedule, although with some rain delays. Jeff is very attentive to details and does very high quality work. Not a low cost provider, but I would highly recommend this service for anybody that wants a high quality project and wants to deal with a professional. Great communication throughout the process, no surprises.

It seems as if the company's previous reputation has fallen into the pits.
Description of Work: I called this company the third week of July to have an estimate about work/replacement of some leaking porch windows. "Jeff" told me he was busy but could possibly schedule me in for the following Thursday. He never called. I was overseas for the next few weeks and called him again (August) and reminded him of the previous conversation. He "could not remember" and then told me "he was very busy" and could not possibly come out for "such a small job".

The work came out great. As he approached the problems with our railings, Jeff came up with solutions that were not only rigorous and definitive, but also quite creative. Where a number of other people we consulted seemed ready to slap a band-aid on the problem, Jeff genuinely wanted to solve the problem completely, once and for all. We were fortunate that we chose him, because as Jeff started to work on the railing over the foyer, we discovered that it had only been "secured" with glue and finish nails. Somebody could have been seriously injured if Jeff had not dealt with the problem thoroughly. Jeff also cares about how the results look in the end. He has an entire mobile woodworking shop and was able to fashion all sorts of wood pieces as needed for the job. He was able to finish the job quicker and for less money that he originally estimated. Another positive attribute about Jeff is his willingness to tell you a $1 solution if a suitable one is available. Jeff looked at a few windows of ours which were very difficult to close. One person told us we would need to tear the walls open and re-frame the window frames. While this may have been one way to fix it, Jeff was able to solve the problem to our satisfaction for free. The windows are closing fine now and the air seal on them is quite good.
Description of Work: Jeff fixed two unsafe stair/foyer railings in a house we recently purchased. One involved replacing and properly securing a Newel post which originally had not been installed correctly. The other involved replacing 10 feet of horizontal railing which overlooks the foyer and had a number of safety and building code deficiencies. Jeff crafted a nosing board, installed new balusters spaced closer together, installed an intermediate Newel post, and most important, secured a new solid oak handrail by bolting it into the frame of the house. Jeff also took a look at some windows which were very difficult to close and recommended some easy steps to deal with them.

Pleasure to work with. I found his company though this website. He was responsive to my initial call, came to my home to inspect the work site and discuss the specifics of the project. He provided me with a total price in writing and delivered a finished product at the cost quoted. The end product reflected excellent workmanship. Throughout there were clear communications. Friendly. Left kitchen/ worksite neat and orderly. Highly recommended.

I dropped the 2 balusters off at Jeff's house for him to first repair, then he came to the house to install them. Later his employee came by and fixed the 3 holes in the walls. It took awhile to get Jeff to the house after I had dropped off the balusters, but the work was very well done. His employee left pieces of spackle in the bathroom sink, that was also a negative, but after the work was done, Jeff called to ask how it had gone and I told him about that and he apologized and said he would speak to him about it. I liked that Jeff called to ask how things had gone.

I am long overdue in giving Mr. Lasky and his assistant, Eric, praise for the wonderful job they did on our window sills and trim in the Spring of 2007. While other contractors weren't even sure how to do the necessary repairs (one suggested paying over $20k to have every single window in our home replaced) Mr. Lasky not only knew exactly what to do but gave us an estimate that was much less than the contractors who didn't have a clue as to how to repair the rot, but were willing to "give it a try". Mr Lasky and Eric were meticulous in their work and my windows sills and various pieces of trim are beautiful. The attention to detail was impressive - Mr Lasky is not happy until the job is done perfectly. We couldn't be happier with the work that was done and I would not hesitate to recommend Lasky Homesmith Service for ANY job; the work ethic and dedication to a job well done that you will find with Mr. Lasky will be hard to find elsewhere.
Description of Work: We moved into a home in January of 2007 that had rotting windowsills and trim. The previous owners had neglected to paint/care for the exterior of the house for years and the windowsills and trim were in desperate need of repair before permanent damage was done. All in all, a time consuming, tedious job.
