They did a beautiful job. They were on time and worked all day. They vacuumed up at the end of everyday. They painted with all the furniture in the house so that wasn't easy.
Description of Work: They did a lot of interior and exterior painting. They did carpentry work as well.

The company was very responsive and gave us a very good estimate. Once the job began they were quick, maybe too so. They did not spend a lot of time on prep work meaning scraping etc. They basically jumped into the job of painting. They did not protect any of our yard. They use paint spray and they did not protect the base of the house well and we have paint on the stones that cannot be repaired. Additionally paint was splattered all around the home in places where it cannot be removed such as the front door. Efficiency seems to be more important than quality. Their carpentry repairs were very expensive and needed a lot of hand-holding. They did not repair what they originally said they would repair until it was mentioned many times, and these were not subtle things such as a hole in the wood on the porch. There are many managers and no one seems to take responsibility for the job in its entirety which leads to much confusion on everyone's part.
Description of Work: They scraped and repainted our house as well as made minor carpentry repairs.

WE HAVE OUR STANDARDS & STEPS THAT ARE TAKEN DURING THE BEGINNING SETUP ALL THE WAY TO FINAL PAINTING PHASE. IT'S EASY FOR ANYONE TO SAY THAT WE JUMPED RIGHT INTO THE PAINTING PHASE WHEN THEY COME TO SEE THE JOB EVERY 2 DAYS. THIS MEMBER DOES NOT LIVE AT THE HOUSE. WE HAVE NO PROBLEMS AT ALL WITH THAT. WE ALSO DON'T EXPECT OUR CUSTOMERS TO BE ON SITE EVERY DAY TO SEE THE WORK BEING DONE, BUT ITS VERY HARD TO WORK ON ANY PROJECT WHEN THE HOMEOWNER OR THE AUTHORIZED PERSON IS VERY HARD TO REACH OR NEVER AT THE SITE TO SEE WHAT IS TAKING PLACE. THERE WAS A HUGE LACK OF COMMUNICATION ON THIS MEMBER'S BEHALF. WE DID NOT JUMP THE PREP WORK, I HAVE BEFORE & AFTER PICTURES TO PROVE THAT THIS HOUSE WAS FULLY PREPPED/SCRAPED & CLEANING WAS BEING DONE NOT ONLY AT THE END OF THE DAY, BUT THROUGHOUT THE DAY AS MANY TIMES REQUIRED. THE PAINT SPOTS THAT WERE MENTIONED WAS FROM ONE OF THE TENANTS OF THE HOUSE, NOT BEING CAREFUL & TRIPPED ON A GAL. OF PAINT. ACCIDENTS HAPPEN, WE JUST WANT TO BE FAIR & TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK WE PERFORMED. WE ALSO HAVE PICTURES BEFORE WE STARTED THE WORK SHOWING EXISTING SPLATTERED PAINT ON THE PERIMETER OF THE HOUSE FROM THE LAST PAINT JOB. I HAVE TO AGREE WITH THIS CUSTOMER ABOUT US HAVING A LOT OF MANAGERS, AND WE DO. NOT MANAGERS, BUT SUPERVISORS WHO ARE TRAINED TO EXCEED OUR CUSTOMER'S EXPECTATION. OUR RESPONSIBILITY HAS BEEN TAKEN IN EVERY WAY, FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END OF THIS PROJECT, MAYBE YOU COULD ASK YOUR TENANTS FOR MORE DETAILS.

In general we are very pleased with the quality of the work. The only frustration was the erratic availability of an on site supervisor who spoke English. At times the chain of communication broke down and the workers would start to do something contrary to what we discussed. The carpentry work looked great, however, they were using regular pine 2 x4 's in places where we strongly felt pressure treated wood was required. They did not charge us for the change to the correct material, but I felt they should have known to use pressure treated wood for a deck/porch. They were very neat and cleaned-up every day. They were always very reasonable to deal with, and responsive to our comments.
Description of Work: Exterior painting & carpentry work on a brick home. Removed all aluminum storms and wood shutters. Replaced rotting facia and wood gutter. Replaced rotting support columns on screened porch. Repainted all 6 over 6 wood windows (32!), caulking and puttying where necessary. Repainted and hung shutters.

Socelvic was painting my house - so I asked them to give an estimate on putting in soffit vents. Celio Jr. Came out, took a look outside and up in the attic and said that they would come back in a few days with an estimate and some samples. I got a call a couple of days later from someone in the office to let me know that this was not work that they typically did and as therefore they were not comfortable doing the work. I appreciated the honesty, but wished they had been able to tell me that up front so that I could have scheduled someone else to give an estimate and have the work done before the painting was complete.

Socelvic ended up sending out two different prep crews. The first crew had two new guys on it and one veteran - it was their first job with Socelvic and they claimed to be experienced painters. After seeing them work for a day and half, Alex decided that the scraping and sanding work the new guys was doing wasn't up to par (and I wasn't thrilled when they pressure washed all the dirt through the air conditioners into the house). Alex sent out a veteran 2-man crew (headed by Fabricio) to start the scraping, sanding, and washing over from scratch (rather than just trying to fix what had been done). I was VERY impressed by this and Socelvic clearly stands behind their work. With a 2-man crew it took a bit longer than originally estimated, but they did top quality work and were very accommodating when I made special requests like caulking the gap between the chimney and the siding, removing an old alarm box and painting an additional set of shutters. Overall, a good experience.
Description of Work: Scraped, pressure washed, re-scraped and sanded a 1935 Colonial - two stories on the front, three stories in the back. One coat of primer plus 2 coats of paint. Previously most of the house trim had been painted the body color. At my request they put back the original trim details. 3 colors in total - body color + trim color + accent color for shutters. Also most of the windows were cleaned and reglazed. Storm windows were of an unusual design and were not removed - simply repainted. I originally called Socelvic for an estimate in fall of 2005. When I called back a year later they said they would honor the original estimate but added an agreed upon $250 materials surcharge for 2006. Although they were not the lowest estimate we received, we had seen them do work around the area and it always looked good.

I received an estimate, and they seemed to be a good company. They provide good documentation of their services with references, 2 year warranty, and insurance (workers comp and liability). I went with a (slightly) lower priced company; next time I might go with this company. They were a strong 2nd, and given my experience with the other, I definitely wish I'd pursued this at least a bit more.

Found the presentation a little slick when they came by to do the estimate, but it was not misleading. Was a bit concerned about the possibility of machine sanding as other Angie's List members had mentioned they were not as happy with those results on cedar shingles. Price was good and it reflects a $500 Angie's List discount. They were up-front about what I could expect given the state of the exterior. Ultimately opted for another company as the slick sell didn't really match my personality and because of the machine sanding concerns.
Description of Work: Powerwash, hand scrape, and sand (hand or machine if required) exterior. Full prime, minimum of 1 coat finish, but 2nd also included in price if required. Estimate was $4995.

I WAS VERY CLEAR TO YOU THAT WE DO NOT USE ANY HEAVY SANDING TOOLS TO SAND THE SHINGLES. WE DON'T EVEN RECOMMEND ANY SANDING ON THE SHINGLES UNLESS IT'S DONE BY HAND. WE ARE CERTAIN THAT GIVEN THE STATE CONDITION OF YOUR HOUSE, WE TRIED GIVING YOU AS MUCH INFO. AS POSSIBLE RELATED TO THE WORK YOU DESCRIBED. I RECENTLY HAD MY APARTMENT PAINTED BY THE SOCELVIC COMPANY AND I WAS BEYOND IMPRESSED BY THE KNOWLEDGEABLE WORK CREW, AND THE PAINTING SUPERVISOR, THAT CHECKED IN WITH ME TREE TIMES FOR THE PURPOSE OF DISCUSSING MY SATISFACTION LEVEL AND WHETER OR NOT I REQUIRED ANY CHANGES. THE CREW WAS EXTREMELY EFFICIENT AND THOROUGH. BEFORE BEGINING ANY WORK, FLAWS WERE CHECKED IN DETAIL, AND BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION, SO THAT THE PROPER REPAIRS COULD BE MADE BEFORE THE PAINTING HAD BEGUN. WHEN THE WORK WAS COMPLETED, THE CREW CLEANED UP AFTER THEMSELVES, AND DOUBLE CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THAT MY HOME WAS LEFT SPOTLESS. I'M A COMMERCIAL CLEANING CONTRACTOR; WHO UNFORTUNATELY HAS TO CLEAN UP AFTER OTHER CONTRACTOR'S MESSES CONSTANTLY. NOT HAVING TO CHECK ON A WORK CREW, IS NOT SOMETHING THAT I AM USED TO- BUT TRULY ENJOYED WHILE THE SOCELVIC CREW WAS WORKING IN MY HOME. THE PROFESSIONALISM AND QUALITY OF WORK FROM SOCELVIC COMPANY WAS EXCELLENT, AND I HAVE ALREADY REFERED THEM TO SEVERAL CUSTOMERS.

This family operated company was very reliable, hard-working and service oriented. They started earlier than promised and finished in less than a week. I also used their carpentry services to repair sections of the garage see other report which complimented the painting and made the schedule go very smoothly. They responded respectively to my requests for more caulk in certain shingled areas and cleaned any paint drips, including on the roof. The crew returned a day later with a new cleaning substance to remove some stubborn paint stains from our slate entryway. I was very satisfied with the overall experience and will recommend them to neighbors and Angie's List members.

I hired this company to paint our house (see other report) and it was convenient to have the same company assess our need for repairs and complete the work without disrupting the painting cycle. They also gave a discount on carpentry labor to their painting customers who are also Angie's List members. Very pleased with their work and their attitude toward the work. They cleaned up each evening and removed discarded wood. The carpentry crew is supervised by one brother and the painting by the other, but they were able to work together seamlessly. The whole painting/carpentry job was done in less than a week.
Description of Work: Includes 55 hours of carpentry (done with a crew over 2 long days)and $600 worth of materials. Repaired and/or replaced rotted portions, fascia boards, moldings, and shingles of a garage that was being repainted. Removed an existing side door and re-framed to create a continuous side wall.

Alex, Celio and their crew were all extremely capable, efficient, polite and honest. It was a real pleasure working with them. First off, I want to say that I'm an architect. I mention this because I had very low expectations coming into this work. However, I am happy to report that for the most part, Socelvic Co. performed very well. They began work later than we had discussed, but once the work began, they were at my house promply, dressed in company shirts (for the most part), and cleaning up the site every day (excellent). The quality of their work was superior, especially the work they performed on my front porch railing, where they matched the new porch rail to existing column bases. They also built a new rail on my rear porch to my design, and actually followed the plans I had drawn (unheard of!). They also rebuilt a front stair post that I had been unhappy with since it was first re-built by another contractor 6 years ago, and did a superb job. On the down side, after I had paid for all the work, it took them over 3 weeks to return and install the storm windows they removed to paint the house.
Description of Work: Quite a lot of work was done to my house prior to painting. The lower rear porch was rebuilt, with new railings installed on the top floor, new window sills installed on about half of the windows, new shingles installed on about one third of the house, new porch roofs front and back, restoration of the front porch railing and trim around the columns, glazing putty around some of the old windows, removal and installation of new ceiling on the front porch, and the rebuilding of the front porch stair railing. Finally, the whole house was painted. while the paint job was well done, the storm windows were left out in the weather where they got fairly dirty, and they were only hosed off prior to re-installation.

We hired Socelvic in spring '06 after reading Angie s List previous postings. They were awesome! We've received many great compliments and the house looks better than ever. The front porch was a pretty big rip and it looks amazing. The paint job was well done and the crew was very detailed (they were especially good at clean up). Alex and Alessandro were very helpful on discussing the entire job and Alex was great on discussing paint colors and options. Most of their workers spoke Portuguese, so communication was difficult at times. Fortunately, Alex/Alessandro were both readily accessible by cell phone, hopefully Alessandro will buy a new cell phone soon :). They readily came back to touch up a few items that needed it. Their price was not the cheapest, but they weren't the most expensive either and I feel that we received a good value. The cost for carpentry was $7k vs. $17k for the painting.
Description of Work: Painted the exterior of 1888 Victorian home and 2 car detached garage; brought the house down to bare wood prior to painting; replaced a large portion of the front porch; did some minor carpentry work around the house, including replacing clapboard and other wood.

I was very impressed by the quality of the work and the incredible work ethic of the crew. They arrived on time at 7:30 every morning (including Saturdays) and stayed until it was too dark to paint around 8:00. They were very polite and responsive to my requests. The bare-wood restoration project was spectacular as the removal of the old paint made the clapboards look new. They cleaned the old windows and stripped off the old paint. They prepped the house for nearly two weeks until it was ready for painting. The coats of paint were applied quickly and professionally. Most of all, the crew was unfailingly polite and hard-working. My neighbors commented on the quality of the job and the hard work of the crew. I would highly recommend Socelvic Painters.
Description of Work: My house had not been painted in 10 years. The last paint job was only fair quality so there was a lot of old paint remaining. Socelvic did multiple jobs. They performed carpentry on the rotten clapboards and shingles. They totally replaced a large section of shingles. They performed a bare-wood restoration - taking off all the old paint from the house. After extensive prep work, they painted the entire exterior. They painted four colors including the doors, accents and windows. They also prepped and stained two rear decks. I also had water damage to an interior wall due to a leaking bathroom fixture. They fixed the leak, caulked the bathroom, rebuilt the wall and repainted two rooms. The entire job took around three weeks.

You can tell by the remarks made in the description of the job we found working with Socelvic Company, relatively speaking, a very good experience. The painting team was collegial, collaborative, very hard working and extremely competent. Their result, after cleanup and a couple of repairs, was excellent. There were screen doors to be painted and repaired. Their carpentry work was of the highest order. They arrived on time and worked into the evening. The contract, as mentioned, was very clear and complete. The painting team fulfilled it without shortcuts. All our personal and phone contacts with the company were friendly. Any issues were resolved easily and quickly. The painting team's handling of the storm windows and screens was careful. The painting team was always courteous. Their cleanup at the close of the workday and the close of the job was complete. The overall experience with ''management'' and the team was very good. We would give this company an A+.
Description of Work: The house is a brick-federal in architecture. We asked that the exterior windows and storms, plus the doors, storm doors, garage doors and gutters and some metal work on the porch be painted. We made the arrangments in late winter for early spring. We received from Mr. Vicente a very full contract, including everything we discussed plus a price which we considered, after reviewing others, very much in the ball park. The work did not begin as early as we had hoped, but when it did, the team the company sent was excellent. They were thorough, competent, careful, using two coats of topgrade materials, working a very long day, cleaning up afterwards. Alex Vicente was in charge of our job. We found him responsive to details and flexible in contingent situations. There were occasional ''change orders'' that he quickly assigned or took care of himself with his own muscle and ''elbow grease.'' He made sure himself that every window, when the job finished, could be raised by us!!

Socelvic was great start to finish. Everyone we dealt with was a professional. They quickly responded to a request for an estimate. Their estimate was for much less than their competitors. They responded quickly and courteously when I had questions about the estimate. When I explained that we really needed the work done ASAP because we were selling our house, they moved up their start date. As promised, they finished in a day and a half. The crew showed up on time, worked hard, and did a great job (including clean up). I would definitely hire Socelvic Company again and recommend them without reservation to others.
Description of Work: The company did a total reconstruction of our small back porch. The top of the porch had rotted and was sagging.
