Socelvic was responsive and professional in coming over to do an estimate. Their office staff checked in frequently to follow up, and thus learned that the written estimate had actually been strangely delayed in the mail (it arrived 2 weeks later postmarked 2 weeks before, thanks mail service.) and sent a copy by email. Theirs was the best estimate we felt confident in for the wood gutters. However, the estimate did not include painting the gutters and we were told they would do an estimate for that separately - their services include painting but a different person would do those estimates. We ultimately decided to go with another contractor and to go with aluminum gutters instead of wood. Could have gotten another estimate from Socelvic but we had really called them because of a more unique expertise with carpentry/wood gutters. We also didn't feel comfortable with the open-ended painting cost that was not estimated upfront. Estimated $8000.00
Description of Work: Got an estimate to replace the wood gutters with new wood gutters on our house, based on a neighbor having a similar job done by them a few years ago.

I think that this company was wonderful. They did the carpentry paint as well. They cleaned up all the carpentry before they actually did any work. I liked the fact that when I had a concern about something they came back right away to fix it. There was this broken glass they forgot to fix the first time so they came back to fix it. I was happy that they fixed all the things we talked about. I would rather not disclose the price.
Description of Work: They painted the exterior of my house for me. They did the garage the shutters the fence and trims. They replaced the trims that were rotten and the shutters that were falling apart before doing the actual job.

The job they did was pretty bad because there was a number of issues that bothered me. They used another type of paint instead the one I wanted. After they finished painting, some of the paint was coming off in some parts. They later came back and refused to look at some of the parts that where bad. Finally they sent another crew in to repair the damage they had done.
Description of Work: They painted the exterior of my home using Sherwin Williams paint. They didn't paint any doors or gutters. It took them about 2 months to finish. My home is 2000 square feet.

THIS CUSTOMER IS NOT BEING CLEAR OR HONEST IN HIS STATEMENT. 1ST- HE ASKED THE SOCELVIC COMPANY TO USE A DIFERENT PAINT CALLED SPREAD-DURA(GLIDDEN). WE NEVER WORKED OR HEARD OF THIS BRAND IN THE PAST. SOCELVIC WAS CLEAR TO THIS CUSTOMER THAT THE WARRANTY WILL NOT BE VALID FOR HIS JOB. HE INSISTED BY TELLING US THAT FROM THE REVIEWS & RATINGS ON CONSUMER REPORTS THAT THE PAINT WAS VERY GOOD QUALITY & THAT WAS HIS FINAL DECISION. SOCELVIC MADE CLEAR CHANGES IN THE CONTRACT, HE SIGNED OFF KNOWING THAT HIS WARRANTY WAS NOT VALID & YES, IN RESPONSE TO HIS STATEMENT SOCELVIC USES SHERWIN WILLIAMS OR BENJAMIN MOORE PAINTS, UNLESS DISCUSSED OTHERWISE.WE BEGIN THE PREP WORK. AFTER PREP WORK & ALL CARPENTRY WORK WAS COMPLETED, WE WENT ON AHEAD WITH THE PRIMING & PAINTING OF THE HOUSE. THE 1ST FINISH COAT WE APPLIED OF THIS SPREAD-DURA (GLIDDEN PAINT) WAS ENOUGH TO CREATE BUBBLES & PEELING ON ALL FOUR SIDES OF THE HOUSE. CUSTOMER WAS VERY UN-HAPPY WITH HIS DECISION ON THE PAINT. SOCELVIC OFFERED TO USE DURATION PAINTS(MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE SHERWIN WILLIAMS PAINT) AT NO ADDITIONAL COST. CUSTOMER WAS VERY HAPPY AND SIGNED OFF. AFTER 2ND FINISH COAT(DURATION) WAS APPLIED. CUSTOMER WAS VERY SATISFIED WITH THE WORK. SHORTLY A FEW DAYS LATER THE SPREAD DURA PAINT CONTINUED TO PEEL IN SOME AREAS. WE RETURNED AND TOUCHED UP THE AREAS AS NECESSARY AT NO CHARGE. WE DON'T RECALL, AS HE QUOTES ANY "REPAIRS" DONE. PAINTING OF THE DOORS WAS NOT IN THE CONTRACT & SOCELVIC DOES NOT PAINT VINYL GUTTERS.

I was kept waiting for months. I should not have hired them. They used inadequate barriers (hazardous dust was thick and all over the house). I asked them to be careful with the side platform and stairs. The side wall was unstable. I was home sick and saw workers pounding on the ceiling beams for no reason. I did not want the ceiling raised beyond the plaster ceiling height but could not reach the company. Also, paint was scratched on platform and stairs. Afterward the side wall moved a 1/4 inch or more and there are several new wall cracks. There were paint splatters on floor and rug. They tried to say it was my fault and there already. Not true. They PAINTED THE WINDOWS SHUT and painted on the trim into next room. It will have to be removed from the finished wood. They installed a heater with no name. I asked on the phone and they said the name is on the heater - not true. They were generally inconsistent in promises and lied.
Description of Work: Raise dropped ceiling kitchen, minor plumbing repairs, install recessed lights, fix hole in ceiling of small bath and install light. Paint both rooms including trim. Install a mall heater bath.

Called the company and left message. Received a call back the next business day by a service representative. They took my information and proceeded to schedule an appointment. The first option was close to noon the next day or two but was not feasible as I work a 9-5 job. I asked for something after 5pm and the service rep said they don't schedule appointments after 5pm. I paused expecting her to correct herself or offer something, at minimum, for "special cases" to no avail. I politely said I would get back. End of story. Reasonable flexibility before and after a typical work day for a contract/service company should be standard. Since this seemed to be their mode of operation and likely would require me to take time off from work more than once through out the project, it was easy to cross this company off the list. I would not use this company nor recommend them to others who have a day job.

Outstanding workmanship. The painting team were perfectionists who greatly exceeded our expectations. They spent some 3 weeks removing old paint, and then doing an amazing job of prep work, before the painting application. The manager recommended using Sherwin Williams Duration Paint which has a Lifetime guarantee! The team showed up everyday and were very professional. They also went out of their way to clean up everything each evening so that our place was always neat and tidy. Note, we also used them earlier to paint the interior of our home. Again, the prep work was meticulous. The outcome is that our home looks new!

ABSOLUTELY GREAT! The team at Socelvic was extremely responsive to all of our needs, and we were in constant communication regarding the specific of the job. As in any job of this size, there were unexpected hiccups along the way, e.g., unexpectedly rotted wood, re-painting of details, etc., but the team was flexible and patient throughout. Everyone, including the owner, managers, and painters, were polite, friendly, responsive and professional. They cleaned up thoroughly every day and showed up when they said they would. I cannot count the number of people who walked by our home and commented on the quality of the work, and asked whether I would recommend Socelvic. The answer is YES.
Description of Work: This was a huge job; a three-story Mansard Victorian (built in 1878) stripping all of the paint off down to the bare wood, followed by extensive carpentry, then a 7-color intricate paint job. The work took several months, from early April until the end of July.

A representative from Socelvic came within days of my call and gave an estimate. The estimate was compared to a number of other estimates and was reasonable. Once they started the job, they showed up at 7:30am each day and worked until 7pm. I was shocked. They got the job done in 3 days. Each day a supervisor came to the house to check on the work. The workers cleaned everything up each evening so my family did not have to trip over tarps, ladders etc. The work was beautifully done and we will definitely use Socelvic for other jobs in the future.

THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENT. WE DID TRY OUR BEST WITH ANOTHER OFFER. WE JUST LIKE TO BE VERY CLEAR TO OUR FUTURE CUSTOMERS THAT WHEN YOU COMPARE QUOTES WITH US, JUST MAKE SURE THAT THE COMPANY IS FULLY BONDED, LICENSED & INSURED. THESE 3 VERY IMPORTANT ITEMS MAKES A DIFFERENCE WHEN WE ARE PUTTING A QUOTE TOGETHER. NOW, WE ARE NOT MAKING A STATEMENT SAYING THAT BECAUSE WE PAY INSURANCE, LIABILITY AND THAT WE ARE FULLY LICENSED MAKES OUR PRICES HIGHER, BUT IF WE DIDN'T PAY FOR IT, I'LL LET YOU BE THE JUDGE ON THAT. WE WERE NOT GOING TO SELL OUR QUALITY WORK FOR $350.00 LESS. PLEASE KEEP US IN MIND FOR ANY FUTURE PROJECTS AND WE SOCELVIC COMPANY WISH YOU THE BEST. REGARDS, CELIO VICENTE

The job was done very well. This company does incredibly high-quality work. The end-product we got was superior than what we'd had by many times over. For example, the original garage did not have a foundation and sat directly on a lawn - which led to rotting of the wood. They recommended to put in a perimeter foundation and build on top of this. We have used the company twice (the first time for a back porch rebuilding) and both times the workmanship has been superior. Our only complaint is that they do not always build everything into the original cost. You need to push on this or you end up with additional costs at the end.
Description of Work: Rebuilt an existing free-standing one-car garage that was falling down. Dug a trench around the perimeter and laid in cement foundation, built and painted structure. Installed automatic door. Did not replace floor bed of garage as this was not part of the job.

All the good reviews we'd read on Angie's List about Socelvic turned out be to true. We were extremely happy with the whole experience. The guys worked unbelievably hard (12 hour days were the norm) and they were really meticulous. Several of our neighbors commented that the had never seen more careful painters. All the work they did looks fantastic. Just as importantly, every time we had an issue (and there are bound to be issues when you have a 4 week project like this), our concerns were addressed promptly and emphatically. We had direct access to all the supervisors (painting, carpentry, etc.) and they really made it a point to complete the job to our satisfaction. We would use these guys again in a heartbeat and would recommend them unreservedly.
Description of Work: We originally contracted with Socelvic to paint the exterior of our house, replace our roof and repair some rotting wood around the place (clapboards, corner boards and two Greek Revival-style columns). We kept finding additional things for them to do, however, and in the end they also painted two rooms, did some finished carpentry inside, installed a new floor in our bedroom and put new gutters on the house.

My call was returned quickly & estimate given promptly. This was the low estimate and also, the contractor said he could start right away & so we chose him. Work commenced quickly. The quality of the workmanship was excellent. The quality of the finish carpentry went beyond our expectations, which is quite impressive considering that my husband & I are both architects & the drawings were very complete. Unfortunately, construction was halted, through no fault of the contractor, by the building inspector for zoning reasons. The contractor made the required changes to the project for a reasonable price but there was somewhat of a wait for them to get started again once they were given the go ahead & this is my only complaint. They were extremely hard workers, putting in 10 hour days regularly. The site was cleaned up daily except on one occasion & the actual length of construction period was as predicted by the contractor- 2-3 weeks. These guys are the best contractors I have dealt with.
Description of Work: Constructed new 2 story porch on existing foundations from architect's drawings for a 100 year old 2 family house. Materials included cedar decking, composite decking, pressure treated framing, membrane roofing, Hardy board siding, PVC cladding, trim and railings, beadboard ceiling and aluminum gutters and flashing.

Socelvic provided a fixed price bid that seemed to us reasonable, given what we knew would be a rather challenging job. They came and started the job when they said they would, and worked steadily. They cleaned up quite well at the end of each day, although inevitably there was a lot of plaster dust. The wall repair and preparation that was needed turned out to be more than planned, so we agreed to pay hourly for the extra. When the bill came, we were surprised at the amount, and questioned the determination of what was extra and what was included. We discussed the issues with Allesandro, and came to a mutually satisfactory resolution. Overall, we are very satisfied. The work is very high quality, the job got done promptly, and ultimately we feel that we paid a fair price.

THIS CUSTOMER CALLED AND REQUESTED THE JOB TO BE DONE THE NEXT DAY. WE DO NOT GIVE FIXED PRICES OVER THE PHONE BECAUSE: 1-WE DO NOT WANT TO OVER PRICE THE JOB. 2-THE ESTIMATE WE OFFER IS 100% FREE. OVERALL, I AM PLEASED WITH THE QUALITY OF WORK THEY PROVIDED, BUT WE FELT THAT THEY WERE NOT COMPLETELY HONEST WITH US REGARDING HOW MUCH IT WOULD ALL COST AND HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE. I LIKED THE QUALITY OF THEIR PAINT JOB. I DIDNT LIKE THEIR IMPROPER ESTIMATE OF THE CARPENTRY COSTS. VASTLY HIGHER CARPENTRY COSTS THAN ESTIMATED. WE ARE PLEASED TO HEAR THAT YOU ARE SATISFIED WITH THE QUALITY OF OUR WORK. THE PAINTING PROPOSAL YOU RECEIVED WAS DETAILED GIVEN THE FACT THAT WE KNOW WHAT OUR STANDARDS & STEPS ARE TO BE TAKEN ON THE EXTERIOR PAINTING JOB. WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS ROTTED/DAMAGED, THAT IS BEING COVERED WITH PUTTY/BONDO & PAINT. WE CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH, GIVEN THE FACT THAT 70% OF THE EXISTING SHINGLES ON YOUR HOME WAS ROTTED, BUT OF COURSE COVERED UP WITH LAYERS (3-4) OF PAINT. THE ONLY WAY FOR ME TO GUARANTEE YOU A GOOD PAINT JOB IS KNOWING THAT THE SURFACE I'M PAINTING ON TOP OF IS IN SOLID SHAPE. YOU DID HAVE A OPTION TO DO ANY CARPENTRY WORK WITH US. IT WAS YOUR DECISION. YOU SAW WHAT NEEDED TO BE DONE IN ORDER TO CONTINUE. THE REASON WHY YOU DID NOT RECEIVED A FIXED PRICE FOR THE CARPENTRY IS JUST BECAUSE THERE WAS A LOT OF "UNKNOWNS" IN EVERY SECTION OF YOUR HOME. IT WAS A JOB CHARGED BY HOUR + MATERIALS. YOU HAD AN OPTION TO STOP US ANY TIME DURING THE PROCESS OF THE WORK. AGAIN, IT IS THE BEST WE CAN DO GIVEN THE CONDITIONS/INFORMATION THAT WAS FURNISHED TO US AT THE TIME OF THE ESTIMATE. BUT WE WERE VERY HONEST AND CLEAR WITH YOU REGARDING THE CONDITIONS THAT YOUR HOME WAS FOUND IN AND HOW LONG IT WAS GOING TO TAKE TO BE COMPLETED. IT WAS YOUR DECISION TO WORK WITH US UNDER YOUR FULL UNDERSTANDING OF SCOPED WORK.WE WILL WORK ON METHODS FOR MORE ACCURATE INFO. FOR EXTERIOR CARPENTRY WORK. WE TRY OUR BEST TO DO SO. YOUR FEEDBACK IS VERY IMPORTANT TO US. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR REPORT.

I received two bids for this job in my top floor condo unit. The kitchen ceiling was badly damaged by a roof leak and was beyond repair. Socelvic was the better bid and they set-up the demolition, completed it in one day, and cleaned up well afterwords. The scope of the job changed slightly when we could see up beyond the old ceiling in our 100 year old building. We needed more framing to support the new blue board and were able to add insulation which is a bonus. Socelvic was good at informing me of the changes, the options and pricing. The new ceiling went up in a day and crown molding was added. The joints were filled the next day and on the final day the painting was completed. Overall, they did an excellent job. The demolition, carpentry, and paint crews were hard working. This job was very dusty and messy; I was warned ahead of time. They did a good job setting up plastic, cloth drop sheets, and then cleaning up. I'd recommend to others in my building and Angie's List members.

The ceiling to be repaired had fallen down due to a faulty extractor fan installed a while ago by another contractor. Alex Socelvic came and gave us a good price to reconnect everything, insulate, repair the ceiling, and prime and paint the entire area. The work was carried out to perfection over two days with a final return a few days later to give one last coat of paint. The guys worked diligently, protecting all flooring etc., both inside and outside the area they were working on and making sure that they left everything clean. The ceiling looks wonderful which makes us very happy indeed.
Description of Work: Put up a small bathroom ceiling which had to be joined to another area. Insulate the vacuous area above the ceiling. Reconnected the extractor fan and heating vent. Prepared ceiling and adjacent walls for painting. Primed and painted entire area.

There was a question as to whether or not anything could be saved, but Celio managed to salvage two of the original pillars. The work was slow, due to weather, city inspectors, and other jobs that the company was working on. The results are spectacular! The job is first class, and looks like it will last for a very long time. The price was steep, but I think in this case well worth it. The company is professional, clean up debris well, and will be back to do more work on this old house in the Spring. I recommend them -just be sure you have cash on hand!!
Description of Work: This work involved the replacement of a very large Victorian porch which had rotted pillars, floor, beams, and necessitated that the entire porch, except for the existing roof, be demolished and rebuilt. It was rebuilt from the foundation up.

We waited 3 months after signing a contract for Socelvic to begin the project. Alex, our project manager, told us 3 times the project would begin a certain week, but then reneged, and only began the project when we threatened to use another company. We requested that clear pine be used for all of the wood trim, as we planned to stain the wood to match our cabinets. Instead of clear pine, Socelvic used a mixture of oak, poplar, and a small amount of knotty pine. Worst of all, they filled the nail holes in the wood with unstainable white spackle instead of wood putty. To give them credit, they returned to replace the spackle with wood putty. However, oil from the spackle had already diffused into the wood, making it look terrible when stained. The mix of different woods also looked ugly stained. Disappointed, we painted the trim white instead of staining. After 2 phone calls and more than 20 mins of arguing, Socelvic refunded $300 for the stain-grade oak that we had to paint over.
Description of Work: Socelvic installed wooden baseboards in our kitchen as well as wood moldings around 5 doors and 3 windows in our kitchen.

Response from Socelvic Co
AT THE TIME OF THE ESTIMATE I WAS UPFRONT & CLEAR THAT FOR THE TIME BEING WE COULD NOT PERFORM THE WORK. THIS CUSTOMER SAID THAT THEY WOULD BE VERY FLEXIBLE ABOUT GETTING THE JOB DONE & WANTED US TO DO THE WORK. WE HAVE A WRITTEN AGREEMENT FROM THEM STATING THE THE WORK WILL BE DONE BY THE SOCELVIC COMPANY, BUT THERE IS NO OFFICIAL START & END DATE. THIS CUSTOMER WENT ON VACATION FOR 3 WKS WITHOUT LETTING US KNOW. WE CALLED SEVERAL TIMES TO SCHEDULE DURING THAT TIME BUT NO ANSWER OR CALLBACK. THE DAY THEY GOT BACK, THEY CALLED OUR OFFICE, THEY WERE VERY RUDE & DISRESPECTFUL TO OUR SECRETARY, & WANTED THE JOB DONE RIGHT AWAY. WE SCHEDULED THIS CUSTOMER FOR THE 1ST WEEK OF SEPT., NOT IN MID OCTOBER! JOB WAS TO INSTALL DOORS/BASEBOARD TRIM & MOLDING, THAT HAD BEEN LEFT UN-COMPLETED FROM THE LAST CARPENTER THAT WAS WORKING THERE, AND NOW I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY. THIS CUSTOMER WANTED CLEAR PINE FOR THE TRIM. FOR THE PROFILE TRIM HE WANTED FROM ANDERSON MCQUAID, WAS NOT AVAILABLE IN CLEAR PINE BUT ONLY IN RED OAK. WE CALLED & EXPLAINED TO HIM THE SITUATION. HE GAVE US THE OK TO BUY THE RED OAK FOR THE TRIM. BUT HE NEVER CONSULTED THE CHANGE W/ HIS WIFE, SO THERE WE HAVE OUR PROBLEM. I HAVE AN APPRECIATION LETTER ON RECORD SIGNED BY THIS CUSTOMER STATING THAT THE "WORK LOOKED GREAT & HE WAS VERY SATISFIED WITH ALL THE HARD WORK." WE HAVE REFUNDED THE FULL COST OF THE RED OAK USED ($450) AND THEY STILL KEPT ALL THE RED OAK.
