These guys do very good work, and we're extremely happy with the results. Alessandro, the project director, was responsive and very courteous and helpful at all times, as were Celio, the carpentry boss, and Alexander, the painting manager. Their crews were focused on their work and as unintrusive as possible - no radio playing or horsing around on the job, and they demonstrated very good workmanship. One small thing - most of the crew members don't speak English very well, so questions have to go through one of the managers. They do a LOT of decks and porches, and really know the ins and outs of how to handle a project like this - we felt we were in expert hands all along the way, and that they were providing us with a product with lasting value. At the same time, they are very willing to listen to input, and will work with you to make the details match your own taste and preferences. The bottom line is that this family-run business really cares about doing a good job and making the customer happy. They did a first-class job - heavy-duty framing, special screw fasteners to hold the decking to the frame, nicely built custom doors, etc. The job did take longer than originally estimated, but most of the delays were due to things like weather, inspection holdups and accommodations to our schedules. There were a few days when Socelvic was dealing with other projects, which is understandable given the size of their operation - and when the crews were here they were working very efficiently. We would definitely work again with Socelvic and have already recommended them to friends and family.
Description of Work: Complete rebuild of rear porches on triple-decker building, including two exterior porches and one enclosed porch. Removed old porches, shored up roof, poured footings, framed, performed finish work, painted.

It was good. I have never done this before and there was a learning curve for me. It did end up costing alot more than I expected. I won't be as naive next time. The quality and the timing of the project was pretty good.

We moved to Brookline from Chicago and the company was able to give us a very reasonable estimate over the phone since we had taken a lot of pictures of the place and e-mailed those pictures to the company. We called many other painting companies on Angie's List and they would not even talk to us without being able to see the place. Socelvic gave us an estimate but also came over the day we arrived in Brookline to inspect our place and make sure that the pictures were accurate, which we thought was a fair was to do things seeing how we were moving in from out of town. We were very pleased with their work - the workers do not speak much English but were extremely polite.
Description of Work: Painted approximately 75% of our new condo in Brookline, which is about 2,400 square feet. This included painting three stairwells and some difficult windowsills.

Excellent. We took four quotes (3 from Angie's List suppliers) and chose this company based on the cost-effectiveness of their quote, reviews on List as well as two customer (phone) references and are very satisfied with the choice we made. This is a great company to work with! Very professional and a hard working team. Their proposal was very detailed and they performed exactly as per proposal. They scraped, sanded and power washed entire house, inspected for wood rot and suggested/made small carpentry repairs as required. Painting was fastidious, close attention to detail, as was clean-up (each day). They even cleaned all windows at conclusion of job and followed up to ensure we were satisfied. The place looks sparkling new. Good communication with office and management. They suggested additional work which we will put off until next season and would definitely work with them again.

The process was very simple and easy. I called the number, Michelle got me on schedule, Alex's estimate was honest and competitive from the start. He broke down the quote into alternatives and options to fit my budget. The job was performed on time and the job foreman and staff accommodated all requests, were pleasant to be around, and left a neat well-done job. Very efficient. Alessandro, personally, checked in with me to make sure I was pleased with everything before we settled the bill. To say the least, I was very pleased with Socelvic Company. We're going to be in need of some interior paint work soon. My only call will be to Socelvic Company to do the job. I really did have the BEST for less!

Given the current reports in Angie's List, which are quite favorable, I think that who experience was not what I had expected. It was average at best, although not below average. The cost of the project was predictably more than the estimates, after all of the "extra unanticipated costs" were added. The workers were of average professional behavior. The work was average. The house looks much better than it did prior to the painting.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPORT & FEEDBACK. YOU HAD APPROVED ALL EXTRA COSTS PRIOR TO US STARTING, SO YOU SHOULDN'T BE THAT SURPRISED ABOUT THE ''EXTRA COSTS''. ONE THING YOU FORGOT TO MENTION IS WHEN YOUR HUSBAND BROKE A MOTION SENSOR LIGHT & DAMAGED THE GARAGE DOOR PANEL, AND ACCUSED OUR COMPANY RESPONSIBLE. AFTER A WEEK FROM THE COMPLETION OF YOUR JOB, YOUR HUSBAND ADMITTED THAT HE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HE DID. I'M HAPPY THAT WE HAVE CLEARED THIS UNFORTUNATE SITUATION AND MOVED ON WITH NO HARD FEELINGS. I HAVE NO DOUBT, FROM THE SATISFIED IMPRESSION THAT YOU SHOWED US WHEN YOU SAW YOUR HOUSE COMPLETED, YOU SEEMED VERY HAPPY WITH OUR FINISHED PRODUCT. All the work went well. They came when they said they would and protected everything, including hanging a heavy plastic curtain to prevent dust from escaping to the upstairs. Once the old walls were removed, they discovered that the sills were rotten and showed them to me. I authorized replacement and agreed to the additional cost.
Description of Work: There had been a lot of water coming into the finished part of the basement. After a French drain and sump pump were installed, it was necessary to remove the old interior walls and install new ones. Also replace two interior doors, ceiling lighting in the family room and bookshelves in the family room. The damaged ceiling in the laundry room was also repaired.

I had hired Socelvic Co. for some interior painting in the past, and it was a wonderful experience. I started this job with another contractor that was referred to me through a real estate broker. I should of never listened to them. I had to stop the job on the 2nd day that day started, and I'm very happy that I did. I called Socelvic shortly after, they returned my call quickly and came around to give an estimate on the following day. After I explained to Alessandro what happened, he provided me with a detailed design built proposal that was going to work within my budget. He honored everything he said since day one. I was so happy to see my floors covered with drop cloths and the carpets & furniture wrapped up as they were working away. The work was amazing. Overall, once more I have nothing but to give my highest praises about this company and the work they perform. I will be pleased to refer this company to anyone who is looking for quality, hard work and honest service!
Description of Work: Interior remodeling & minor alterations in kitchen, dining room & foyer. Removed existing walls, framed & installed new walls, custom closets and headers where it was necessary. They performed cosmetic carpentry work to stair well (treads & balusters), installed new molding & new granite countertop (uba-tuba) and tile for the back splash in kitchen. The plaster work on the affected areas were cracking and needed to be fully prepped & painted. After all the general carpentry work was completed, they started the painting prep work on the following day! They prepped & painted all the rooms where the work took place, that included all walls, ceiling & new wood work. They cleaned up everyday and the work turned out beautiful and I ended up paying less the amount the other contractor charged me.

Alessandro was our contractor and I couldn't have been happier with the process from start to finish. We agreed to a direct cost of work based upon hours required, and his estimate was reasonably close to the total project charge. He was always accessible and kept me updated almost daily on the status. The crews showed up daily right on time, and were both courteous and careful in ensuring that access points to the attic remained clean. It was clear that all workers on the job took pride in the company and in their work. They carefully listened to our requests and provided good recommendations on finer points of the project that enabled us to remain within our budget. This was the first of a few projects we have in mind, and I definitely plan to work with them again in the future.

We need someone to shovel the snow. We don't have a driveway, but our building is at the corner, so we have two sidewalks, front porch and stairs that need to be shoveled. I called their office, someone pick up the phone right away and I sent the picture by e-mail, they sent back the quote next day. I sign the contract for this winter. They shoveled once so far and did a very good job. They are very easy to communicate with by e-mail. They wrote back to me right away when I sent them e-mails.
Description of Work: They shoveled front porch and 2 stairs up to the porch and 3 steps stair to the basement door for out 2 units condo. Our building is at the corner, they also shoveled side walks on both street. It is a little pricey, but they certainly did a very good job.

Excellent. Double A rating on punctuality.
Description of Work: They came round to make an estimate within 30 minutes of my call and e-mailed me a proposed contract three hours later. When the predicted snowstorm blew in that afternoon, they dug out my driveway for me while I was on the way home from work. Only one day of experience, but so far I'm extremely pleased. They charge by the visit, not by the inch, which I find much more straightforward (and less subject to abuse).

Celio Jr. answered my message promptly, followed up with a quick estimate and service! He was very reasonable with his rates and was able to explain the options for snow removal services best for me. The work agreement was officially scheduled through a very detailed contract agreement and as soon as the first inches of snow came down, Celio Jr. and his crew were on top of their game. They cleaned, plowed and salted the walkways. They left the house in safe and clean conditions.

I contacted this company for an estimate based on reviews here such as this one: Approximate Cost: $6,000.00. Description Of Work: Exterior preparation and painting of sizable house including house body primer plus 1 coat paint and all trims (primer plus 2 coats) and garage. I know this is a year later, and prices have increased, but they asked for almost $17,000 to paint my two story house, and insisted it was actually three stories, because of the underground cellar. Huh? The bid also included some misc. carpentry, which they bid at $10,000. The work involves re-framing 8 cellar windows and re-pointing where necessary, a new cellar door, one 'custom' pantry shelf, 'retro-fitting' six existing pantry drawers (fixing them so they don't squeak) and doing the same to to small pantry door. TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS? And please, if you choose to respond the this report, DON'T SHOUT AT ME WITH ALL CAPS!
Description of Work: Didn't hire them but asked for bid.

IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO COMPARE OUR PRICE WITH AN EXTERIOR PAINTING REPORT YOUR READ BASED ON A MEMBER'S COMMENT. YES, THE REPORT YOU READ DID SAY; APPROX. COST: $6,000. DESCRIPTION OF WORK: EXTERIOR PREP & PAINTING OF SIZABLE HOUSE INCLUDING HOUSE BODY PRIMER PLUS 1 COAT PAINT AND ALL TRIMS (PRIMER PLUS 2 COATS) & GARAGE. 1ST- YOUR HOUSE IS NOT A SIZABLE HOUSE AND 95% OF YOUR HOUSE NEEDS SERIOUS PREP WORK, THE OTHER 5% ARE THE STONE WALLS. FOR THE RECORD, OUR PRICE IS BASED ON PREP WORK, NOT JUST PAINTING. 2ND- YES, YOUR HOUSE HAS THREE STORIES, I CAN PROVE YOU THAT I'M CORRECT. I HAVE NO INTENTIONS OF MAKING UP THIS INFORMATION, BUT TO GIVE YOU CLEAR, DETAILED & HONEST PROPOSAL. 3RD- $10K FOR SOME MISC. CARPENTRY? THIS WAS ONLY AN VISUAL ESTIMATE, THERE IS A LOT MORE OF "UNKNOWNS" IN THAT HOUSE. 10K WAS ONLY A VISUAL ESTIMATE BASED ON TIME + MATERIALS, IT WILL INCREASE & OUR PROPOSAL HAS A LOT MORE CARPENTRY WORK INVOLVED THAN WHAT YOU SIMPLY DESCRIBED IN YOUR REPORT. 4TH- YOU RECEIVED A "FREE" DETAILED, CLEAR & HONEST ESTIMATE, WITH NO OBLIGATIONS OR FEES WHATSOEVER. ME AND MY BROTHER LEFT ALLSTON AND WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO DORCHESTER TO MEET WITH YOU FOR 3:30 HOURS. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO THIS WORK WITH US, BUT AT LEAST HAVE SOME CONSIDERATION FOR ALL THE WORK & TIME IT TOOK US TO FURNISH YOU THIS ESTIMATE. GOOD LUCK, WE WISH YOU THE BEST! The work done was satisfactory, but it took over a year to complete the project. At one point, subcontracted roofers installed a new rubber roof, and Socelvic painters put nails into it when building a roof deck. We had to wait 3 months for the roofers to return and install a second new roof. The billing was a disaster. There were no clear statements about which charges were for carpentry and which for painting. When we asked for a billing record, they said they had none and couldn't possibly give us one. This was a problem for the condo association, which had to review the bills. They left extra paint outside, making it useless after it froze. When contacted for paint colors so I could match colors for a touch up, they had no record of the colors. This is shoddy management for such a big company and such a big job

SOCELVIC COMPANY WAS HIRED TO PERFORM EXTERIOR PAINTING ONLY. THE REASON WHY IT TOOK MORE TIME THAN ANTICIPATED WAS BECAUSE HE HAD SO MANY "SMALL" REPAIRS TO DO THAT NEVER ENDED. I WISH THIS CUSTOMER WOULD AT LEAST BE HONEST AND STAND BEHIND WHAT HE STATES OR HAVE THE GUTS TO SHOW BEFORE & AFTER PICTURES OF ALL OUR "SATISFACTORY" WORK AROUND THE HOUSE. SOCELVIC REPLACED A 2ND FLOOR ROOF DECK, INSTALLED (1)BEARING WALL, PERFORMED MAJOR CARPENTRY REPAIRS AROUND THE HOUSE AND INSTALLED A NEW RUBBER ROOF. SOCELVIC DID NOT PUT NAILS INTO THE RUBBER ROOF. THIS CUSTOMER HAS NO IDEA OR EXPERIENCE WITH PAINTING/ROOFING OR CARPENTRY SERVICES. THE NAILS USED WAS FOR THE ROOF DECKING (SHEATHING), AND HE DID NOT WAIT 3 MONTHS FOR THE COMPLETION. THIS JOB WAS COMPLETED IN THE SUMMER OF 2005. HE CALLS OUR OFFICE ON AUGUST 2007, DISRESPECTING & BEING RUDE WITH OUR STAFF AND DEMANDS COPIES OF DETAILED STATEMENTS OF ALL BILLING TRANSACTIONS OF THE JOB. WE TELL HIM THAT WE WOULD WORK ON GETTING ALL THE INFORMATION HE REQUESTED. SOCELVIC NEVER TOLD HIM THAT HE COULDN'T HAVE THE BILLING RECORDS. SOCELVIC PROVIDED EXCELLENT WORKMANSHIP ON THIS HOUSE IN EVERY SCOPE OF WORK. THE OTHER OWNER MADE THAT VERY CLEAR TO US. WE WISH THAT HE WAS ALSO A MEMBER. WE LEFT EXTRA PAINT INSIDE THE FRONT PORCH (LATE AUGUST). WE HAVE NO IDEA HOW THE FREEZING PAINT CAN BE OUR FAULT. WE DO HAVE RECORDS OF ALL COLORS USED FOR YOUR HOUSE, UNFORTUNATELY YOU HUNG UP THE PHONE TWICE WHEN WE TRIED TELLING YOU. GOOD LUCK!

The fact that these guys have two very polite women, answering their phones anytime you call during business hours, and are very reachable themselves, all day, sometimes even after hours, is a big plus. Getting a hold of contractors can be tough as I'm sure you know). Their crew works very hard; long days with just a quick lunch break on the site (they bring their own microwave!). I found all the workers to be very nice and polite people, with always at least one good speaker of English present. There was a couple of small miscommunication (mostly having to do with an overlap of names in the family) that led to a couple of minor problems, but when pointed out, the company was willing to discuss things, fix any problems, and it was all worked out in the end. Overall, a professional, easy to get a hold of company with some skilled carpenters.

This company came well recommended from AL. They finally finished their work. While they were in the midst of the project, it appeared it would take much longer than originally estimated. I didn't want the work to triple after they had ripped up my house. When I brought my concerns to their attention they said it would be about 30% more, but no more than that. I just received the invoice which was triple the original estimate and double the revised estimate. When the job was set up it was approached as a carpentry job that there are a lot of unknowns. The contract I signed was an estimate for how many hours it would take. It was estimated as a 3 day project for a two man crew. It turned out to be a 3 man project for five days. The hours skyrocketed. I gave them the opportunity to give me a reasonably revised estimate. They did revise it, I feel purposely low-balled it to make sure I didn't scrap the project, and then went ahead and billed me excessively.
Description of Work: I hired this company to remove and replace all interior moldings on the first floor of my home. The original estimate was $2900, for 53.5 hours of work. They later upped it to 75 hours part way through. My final bill was for 145 hours. The carpenters that were here were wonderful. They treated our home well and did very good work. They are not the ones however responsible for the estimate side of things. This has become a bit of a billing nightmare.

Response from Socelvic Co
THERE WAS NEVER A "ORIGINAL" ESTIMATE FOR THIS JOB. OUR PROPOSAL EXPLAINS IT VERY CLEAR THAT THIS JOB WAS CHARGED ON TIME + MATERIALS OPERATION. THIS CUSTOMER WAS WELL INFORMED THAT THIS JOB WAS NOT A FIXED PRICE. ON THE DAY OF THE ESTIMATE, THERE WAS MOVING BOXES EVERYWHERE, IT WAS VERY HARD TO DIAGNOSE THE SCOPE OF WORK HE WANTED. 1ST, HE WANTED TO REPLACE THE ALL BASEBOARDS, AFTER JOB STARTED, HE WANTED US TO INSTALL CROWN MOLDING & ADDITIONAL BED MOLDINGS ON TOP OF THE BASEBOARDS. WE HADE TO BRING OUT ALL THE BASEBOARDS ABOUT 2" OUT FROM THE WALLS BECAUSE THE DRYWALL WAS FLUSHED PARALLEL WITH THE BASEBOARD. THIS CUSTOMER KEPT ADDING MORE WORK AND SMALL COSMETIC REPAIRS HERE & THERE.THE WORKED HOURS ARE CORRECT. IF SOMETHING WAS WRONG OR DIDN'T SEEM RIGHT, HE HAD THE FULL AUTHORITY TO CALL US AND STOP THE JOB RIGHT AWAY.INSTEAD HE INSISTED FOR US TO PERFORM NUMEROUS OF COSMETIC REPAIRS APART FROM WHAT WE WERE WORKING ON ALREADY.SOCELVIC COMPANY PROVIDED HIM WITH A ALLOWANCE OF 53.5 HOURS TO HAVE THE BASEBOARDS REPLACED ONLY, NOT TO REPAIR THE ENTIRE HOUSE. WE ARE VERY SURE & CONFIDENT THAT WE GAVE OUR 100% EFFORTS TO PROVIDE YOU WITH A FAIR & REASONABLE ESTIMATE & EXCELLENT WORKMANSHIP.CUSTOMER DID NOT WANT TO PAY THE FINAL WORKED HOURS, EVEN KNOWING THAT HE AUTHORIZED US TO MOVE FORWARD WITH ALL EXTRA WORK PERFORMED. THIS COSTUMER THREATENED US BY SAYING HE WAS GOING TO PUT US ON THE "PENALTY BOX" AND REPORT US TO THE BBB. WE WERE NOT INTIMIDATED. REGARDS, CELIO VICENTE
