I bought a vacuum cleaner called "Miele Cat and Dog". I had already purchased a vacuum that had the belt break from them. They would not help with that & were extremely rude about it. I regret ever going back. I spoke with Dotty on the phone to get a new vacuum. The woman kept up selling and up selling me on the phone. I ended up spending $600 + 45.00 tax on a Miele S7260 vacuum. It was way too large and complex for what I needed. Its more of a commercial style verses a residential style. I realized this wasn’t an appropriate vacuum for me so I decided to call back immediately first thing in the morning on the next business day after I had received it. The woman said since I turned the vacuum on it made it “used” so I couldn’t return it. Once I called back to say I contacted the BBB, Attorney General & Angie's List, she said I needed to pay a restocking fee. That is 1/4 of the price. What kind of a business does this? I am in the midst of an economic meltdown & told her so. I wanted something that would be simple to use and last for a long time. As I stated, since I purchased an Oreck four years ago from them with the same idea in mind, & now they have ripped me off AGAIN, I am angry. Since I am housebound with a precancerous condition (Barrett's Sydrome), RA & Lupus, I could not see it & when my husband picked it up, he wanted to show it to me & never imagined that they would NOT take it back. After all that, I just gave up and figured I was stuck with it. Dottie screamed and yelled at me that she "told me not to buy it." Honestly, I thought it would turn into "she said, she said" and I just didn't have the energy to fight this. Then I used it, and had to use the handheld device to pick up the dirt after the vacuum did not pull up any dirt. It took 2 1/2 hours to vacuum 450 sq. ft. of carpet. I had to wait for my husband to bring it upstairs, and it took over a week for me to use it again. After trying to turn it ON over and over, I contacted the manufacturer, MIELE. I had registered the product there, and thought they could help. Kyle, at MIELE, in NJ, went through a trouble shooting process with me, and finally told me that he would contact Dotty as this company is an authorized dealer & said he would contact her on 2/18/10 He told me to return the product for a refund, and said the dealer would send the vacuum back to MIELE. My husband did so on 2/19/10, and Dotty went bezerk, yelling at him in front of staff and customers, calling him (and me, but I was not there) LIARS, telling him she advised me NOT to purchase this (SHE UPSOLD ME THREE TIMES) vacuum. He rarely loses his temper, and returned home absolutely furious. This yelling match lasted twenty minutes. Now we not only have a vacuum that is difficult to use (Kyle, at the manufacturer, stated it did not sound like it worked properly to begin with) but the on/off switch doesn't work. This appliances is BROKEN, PERIOD. Dotty is stating she TOLD ME NOT TO BUY IT. So why would I do so? For one thing, that is a LIE, and secondly, IT DOES NOT WORK. IT WILL NOT TURN ON!!! This is crazy. I owned a company. I have had to purchase new appliances, with my retirement money (I told Dotty how badly we were doing with the economy, but she could care less) like a stove, a refrigerator and a washer. All these came from the same company. Once a burner on the stove did not work and the company was glad to come over and check it out. It turned out to be faulty so they replaced it. I read a complaint (after I called the first time to return the vacuum) on the web stated that this company used to be a Eurecka authorized dealer but they aren't any longer because of the way they treated people. Also, I would like to state that the credit card used belongs to ME. My husband picked up the vacuum cleaner and he is NOT authorized to use my card. He had it since we made a purchase together the week before, so he wasn't thinking when he pulled it out.
Description of Work: I purchased a vacuum cleaner from this company. The story is below. If you need further information, just call me at 401 749 0093. Above, it says "company/provider type." It is a retail store that sells various appliances, and mostly sewing machines. It is located in Massachusetts. I live in Rhode Island, one block from Massachusetts. I thought that since I had purchased a vacuum prior to this that had broken within four years (Oreck), they would give me a good deal. Instead, the entire transaction took place over the phone during about five hours so I could do research on the internet. This produce is new, so there wasn't a lot of information that I could find. However, the manufacturer was quite reputable so I went along with being UPSOLD after I found cheaper models. She asked me if I had PETS, and this is supposed to be for people with cats and/or dogs. I have a cat. That way, she managed to get me to buy it. Their phone # is 508 883 4777 and Fax is 508 883 2447. Dotty and her husband own the store.

Response from Marion's Sew & Vac
The member called me at least four times on the day her husband purchased the vacuum. When she told me she had Fibromyalgia/ Rheumatoid Arthritis (having Fibromyalgia myself) I told her the vacuum she chose would be too heavy and her response was it's only 22 lbs, which she had read on the internet. She said she was sending her husband in with her credit card to purchase the vacuum. When her husband came in I told him it thought the vacuum would be too heavy and he said it was what she wanted and he would be carrying it upstairs. We can not take back vacuums that have been used. Also, on the charge slip that the member has it states "No Returns". We have been in business for over 16 years and I don't remember having to deal with people like this who continually change their story. We have an excellent reputation with the BBB. Two weeks after they purchased the vacuum I received a call telling me that the member said the vacuum wasn't turning on and asking if we would take a look at it. The member came in, made a scene in our store and after I wrote up the the repair slip he decided not to leave it. We have resolved this issue and they are exchanging their upright with a canister.
