+ -1 moreThe overall experience was perfect. A gentleman and skilled carpenter, Fernando made hard work look easy and even while my husband was assisting. Even my husband who is a very critical assessor was greatly impressed.
Description of Work: Fernando Fonseca installed some cabinets in a kitchen that had preexisting cabinets..not easy as the space was very tight anfd there was a need to match up kickboards and fit under countertop already installed; he also had to build up a 7 inch rise for the cabinets to set on.. Also built a platform for a penninsula in preparation for granite countertops. He was very easy to work with, prompt, courteous, neat.Fernando Fonseca is a professional in every sense, very knowledgeable, skillful and patient man. Can't wait to have him back.

+ -1 moreHe came out to my home same day I called to install a medicine cabinet in my bathroom. I felt uncomfortable installing due to tile. He was very professional and accurate. You can tell he takes pride in his work. The cabinet was not easy to put together but he got it done in an hour and some change. I would defiantly recommend and use again. Unfortunately, the mirror is no longer secured to the wall about a year later. The left bracket has detached from the mirror.
Description of Work: I had a glass medicine cabinet installed on my tile wall. The wall and materials had a few challenges such as no studs in wall and the cabinet was confusing to put together. Cabinet is now hung.

Came out and gave us an estimate for the repairs within a day or so of our call, then returned as soon as the weather allowed.Prompt, professional, nice guy, great price. Definitely the kind of pro you want working on your house.
Description of Work: Repaired two windowsills. He had to cut a very precise copy of the wood he was replacing in one area in order for it to fit. And it fits and is sealed perfectly

+ 1 moreFernando did fantastic work. We were very happy with the results and cost. He took great pride in his work. He took the time to explain to us what he intended to do and how. After both tasks he showed us what he did and explained why as well. He always returned my calls and was very punctual. He made every effort keep us informed as to his status and scheduling. There were no surprises. The deck job ended up costing us about half as much as he estimated because it turned out we didn't need as many supports. The roof job also ended up costing less than the estimate because it took less time and materials than he had originally estimated. Overall an excellent job.
Description of Work: We hired Fernando Fonseca Home Improvement for two tasks. First was to repair a corner of our deck which had separated from the foundation due to the heavy snows from the winter of 2010-2011. Fernando used a jack to lift up the separated section and installed a timber support in a pre-cast cement footing which he dug into the ground. This part of the job cost $250. The second task was to re-enforce our roof. Fernando tied the roof rafters together with several 2x6s. This part of the job was $600.

+ 1 moreWe needed some carpentry and demolition done in our basement as well as a few other small jobs around the house. Fernando called me back promptly and came out to see the job. He scheduled the job within a few days and arrived on time. He must have worked for 7-8 hours straight to finish the work on the basement. He offered to come back shortly for about an hour, at my convenience, to complete the other small jobs. His work is meticulous and clean. He had a number of suggestions to improve the look of the finished product. It was clear that he was a professional and took immense pride in his work. I was extremely impressed and I have already recommended him to a few friends.
Description of Work: Demolishing a built in bar in the basement, building a cabinet to cover the sump pump and other pipes, repairing the wood paneling above the basement fireplace.

+ 2 moreFernando made an initial visit to preview the job and stated that it could be completed in a day, which was accurate. He stated when he would be available to do the work, and he called to schedule the work at exactly that time. He took measurements at the time of his initial visit in order to prepare in advance for some of the carpentry tasks, and brought a custom made door ready to install on the day of the job. He worked continually during the day until the job was complete. He was extremely polite and asked for our input before making aesthetic decisions. We did not give a rating for price in the checklist above only because we have no point of comparison for handyman services, but we do feel that Mr. Fonseca gave us good value for the money we spent.
Description of Work: Fernando made a series of repairs around our home, including patching two large openings in a bathroom wall in preparation for future wallpapering. He constructed a door for a previously open cabinet space. He repaired an exterior porch banister that was falling apart and weather stripped a door, which required some additional carpentry.

+ 0 moreFernando arrived right on time and worked steadily until the job was finished. He spent about 4 hr. on the job, and completely cleaned, dried, and sealed all three dormers. I was pleased to see that both his longer ladder and his scaling ladder were virtually new equipment, important for a contractor working at heights. I supplied the caulk. Fernando went out of his way to make sure the caulking was complete. I found him to be friendly and polite, and he was a pleasure to have working for me. I would be pleased to have him work for me again.
Description of Work: Fernando was hired to apply waterproof caulking to the three dormers on my roof, working about 40 ft. above ground. The job required him first to reach the roof, about 30 ft. up, and then scale the sloping roof, by means of a second ladder hooked over the peak. He then used a caulking gun to apply acrylic cauk to all the roof-dormer joints. He also filled voids up under and between the shingles on the dormers.

+ 2 moreMr. Fonseca is a lovely, friendly gentleman. I called him to repair multiple things in the house to put it up for sale. He was available over 3 days the next week and fit me in between other jobs since I was under time constraints. I had contacted another company and was impressed with the very reasonable price Mr. Fonseca estimated the work to be. His work is done by the half day and he needed an extra day beyond his original estimate, but charged only for half a day. The work done was very quick yet good quality. He's a hard working one man company. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of his work, leaving not a scrap anywhere. I would hire him again!!
Description of Work: rebraced deck and stairs, realigned wooden fence, replaced roof on outside shed, regrouted bathroom shower and fixed peeling shower ceiling, replaced screen on door, releveled and braced cobblestone driveway.

Description of Work: I had a punch list of things that needed to be fixed. Artwork to be hung, a shower door to be fixed, some furniture repairs, caulking in the bathroom, window locks installed, etc. Fernando did everything on the list in a professional manner. The shower door shattered while it was being fixed. Fernando immediately took it to a glass repair company, paid for the repair and came back to install it within 48 hours.

His price was consistent with other flooring installers but he was much more thoughtful in preparation of the quote, to ensure that there not be any surprises. He started and ended the job right on time. Most importantly, his work was beautiful. The floor is well matched, thresholds are level, and the piece at the top of the steps looks like it was an original part of the house. Mr. Fonseca is extremely pleasant and professional to work with,

He wanted to make sure the weather was still good enough for us to prime and paint. I highly recommend Fernando. He is accommodating to your needs and a very pleasant person.
Description of Work: We had a window that one side was rotten most of the way up on the outside and Fernando took all the bad wood out, cleaned it up and rebuilt it. He matched it up so well to the existing piece you can not even see where he replaced it.

+ -1 moreI believe Fernando is fair cost and can perform small carpentry and lock tasks. He is always very punctual and willing to work around my work schedule. He is willing to work on a Saturday or Sunday and evenings. He was also willing to pick up some materials when he did his hardware store errands, and did not charge extra for it. I will continue to use his services but will most likely ask to confirm his measurements.
Description of Work: I have used Fernando Fonseca's services several times. Initially, I needed help with replacement of lock and a door closer . I picked up the lock & closer and the install went smoothly. Just days later, my basement door lock jammed & stopped working. I called Fernando and was willing to came by right away. He had an extra lock so brought it to install. It was almost completely installed and he realized there was no key. Another lock partially installed was defective and had to be returned. Some other issues arose with the door and location & size of prior lock as the door is quite old, so this installation took quite a long time. Fernando was fair in not charging for mistakes on his part. I also had him re-install a closet organizer and blinds. The closet organizer went fairly smoothly, but because the organizer was being re-installed in a different orientation, there were empty areas on the walls where cedar closet planks needed to be filled in. Fernando went ahead and purchased replacement planks for me. Unfortunately, he bought the wrong size planks and had to return them to the store for the correct width to match existing planks. The blinds were installed but size was off and so they would come down when you tried to close them, but Fernando returned to fix them at no charge.

+ -1 moreWe now use him as our handyman anytime something breaks around our home. He has repaired soffits, adjusted doors from the house settling, installed a cook-top and many other minor carpentry projects. He did a great job on the cook-top it was difficult because we had a non-standard sized cook-top so it required modification upon re-installation. The thing that was great in that case, because if he hadn't been able to modify it we would have had to replace the counters surrounding it, and then the rest of our counters to match (which would have been a very costly project when all we needed was the cook-top) He is affordable and he is wonderful!

He returned our call promptly, was punctual for our initial meeting and started and completed the work on the estimated dates. The work he performed was excellent. In addition, he was extremely pleasant and courteous while he was performing the work. We were really delighted with the experience and finished product and felt that his rates were very reasonable.
